"The Spirit Never Dies (Jeanny Final)" is considered a spurious third installment in the trilogy, which Falco died before completing according to his own plans.
I first arrived in Germany in April, 1986. This song was the most talked about song anyone had ever heard. Every american soldier wanted this song translated by a german friend. Falco, who became known in the states for 'Rock Me, Amadeus," and "Der Kommisar," had some very nice songs. I actually saw him in concert, Mannheim, Germany, and he put on a great show. Unfortunately, he is another artist who died much too young.
The “F” stands for Falco obviously, but is also a reference to the movie “M” (1931) by Fritz Lang, a renowned German director. It is a movie about a child predator, very controversial at the time, even more so because the director chose to also show the human side of this killer. He is marked with an “M” on his jacket by a vigilante without him knowing, but now everyone knows who he is. In a following kangaroo court he is sentenced, while he begs for mercy and tries to explane the he does not want to kill either, but the voices in his head are too strong. Very haunting, impressive movie.
This song was quite controversial in 1986 and many radio stations in West Germany boycotted the song. On the other side of The Wall, in East Germany, it was even forbidden to play this song. It was on #1 in the Dutch charts for 4 weeks in 1986.

I ‘ve always loved the brilliance of this composition: spoken words, singing, German, English, the synths, the newsflash etc. I used to know every word of the newsflash by heart.
The Sewer scene probably referring to Orwell’s movie „The third man“, which was shot in Vienna still damaged by WW2, and had a famous scene in the sewer too
I honestly don't understand the controversy around this song. People said it glorified or normalized assault but I just don't see it. When I first heard the song as a teenager speaking fluent German and English it actually made me aware that there are creeps in the world and women have to be more careful because too many people target us🤷🏾♀️.
It's controversial that he used a real case, a real young girl murdered, to get successful from it. He even used clips from real news clips. People thought it was in extremely poor taste. You can see it how you will, it's not necessarily the glorification of kidnapping but it's the fact that he jumped off of someone's real tragedy and the family had to hear that song everywhere.
Falco (real name Johann Holzel) was an Austrian singer songwriter who tried to marry German verses with English choruses. The English he knew, he learned from watching films, TV programmes and listening to music sung in English. Obviously being Austrian his first language was German, but he had a love and a fascination with the United States and Britain. As you can see, he had a very powerful voice but sadly died in a horrific car crash.
Hi, Highly. Falco was for me someone who warned girls about men who could be dangerous. I was a teenagergirl when this song was on the radio. Now 51 years old. He was not a very standard man, but I think he meant well. He died because a car hid him just outside of the place where he had a meeting with the brothers Bolland and Bolland, producers of a lot of good music. Great that Falco was someone who was not afraid to demand attention on a taboo. Died much to early.
Shortly after Falco's death, in 1998, his album "Out of the dark (Into the Light)" was released and the (iconic) titletrack sounds like a requiem...for himself! You wont regret to check it out...
This might be late but the „F“ on his shoulder at 5:02 is a reference to the Fritz Lang movie „M“ which is about a murderer who has „M“ written on his back (like Falcos „F“ in this video). Fritz Lang was a famous Austrian filmmaker in the 1920s based in Germany.

The song "Jeanny" by Falco was extremely controversial due to its controversial themes and lyrics. Here are some of the reasons why the song caused a stir: Sexual violence and criminality: the lyrics of the song deal with topics such as sexual violence and criminality. Falco sings about the kidnapping and imprisonment of a woman named Jeanny. These topics are extremely sensitive and disturbing to many people. Ambiguity of the lyrics: The lyrics of the song are intentionally vague and leave many questions unanswered, such as whether Jeanny is with the narrator willingly or against her will. This ambiguity led to different interpretations of the song. Publication controversy: "Jeanny" was indexed in Germany, meaning that it was not made available to young people under 18. This led to further discussions about freedom of expression and censorship. Public outrage and discussions: The song provoked heated public discussions in several countries, especially in Germany and Austria. Some people felt the song was morally questionable, while others argued that art should have the freedom to address controversial issues. As a result, "Jeanny" became one of Falco's most controversial and well-known songs, and it polarized the public. Despite the controversies, the song was commercially successful and reached high chart positions. Falco stylistic device has always been to write more clear lyrics so that people discuss and question some things about themselves and in society. The Commissar, Jeanny, Rock me amdeus or Mama the man with the coke is there. In Germany, coke has several meanings. Once it is coke umd cocaine but also a product of coal which is used for heating. This coke was usually delivered by men and poured into the cellar or carried. Therefore, for example, in the song you can either think of a drug dealer or just a coal supplier.
This song was played in an episode of Tatort crime serie. It about a pimp, whose singing about one of his girls. This was quit chocking when it gone on the air
Imagine making a song about a serialkiller now, you can go to jail for that lol. You gotta love the 80's where everything is possible, like "the police - every breath you take" song about a stalker :)
How about Eminem making that song about killing his baby mama and using their three year old daughter to feature in it? You'd be cancelled to hell in back for that shit now. Eminem is immune from being cancelled, didn't he make that my salsa video as well where he dressed as a stereotype of a mexican and sang about how his salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance?
The story is deliberately open to interpretation. One interpretation is that the protagonist is a kidnapper, another interpretation is that Jeanny was his girlfriend who drove him mad. Maybe Jeanny and everything is just the interpretation of a mad man. And there are many more other interpretations between ...
😭 RIP Falco
Geht mir genau so.
Ohne Freigabe durch Falco erschienen postum die Versionen Where Are You Now? (Jeanny Part III) (2000) und The Spirit Never Dies (Jeanny Final) (2009)." One part was also banned at that time and many radio stations boycotted the song and did not play it.

Great song, with such a dark theme. Sung by an Austrian singer, in German and English, written by two Dutch brothers: Bolland & Bolland, who also wrote In The Army Now (made famous by Status Quo).
Ohhh, I hadn't heard this song till I was 18 years old, almost same age as Jeanny... I loved this song but for sure as I didn't speak very good english and german, i haven"t understood this song... So thank you for this video and explanations :)
In the 80's we thought it was clear now that you shouldn't shame the victims of sexcrimes. But stil, if something like 'this' happens, people say: she shouldn't have had so much red lipstick on her face. Or he skirt was to short etc. The crime is done by the kidnapper/rapist not the victim. The video was banned by a DJ and more DJ's followed And why: it could give someone an idea....
Child's voice: Bump bump, rider (Can also be translated as "up and down, rider" - in German "hoppe hoppe, reiter"). Tiel: A melody in wind. Child: My heart no longer beats. Tiel: And the child sings from the dirt/earth. Child's voice: Bump bump, rider Tiel: And no angel descends down. Child: My heart no longer beats. Tiel: Only the rain cries on the grave. Child's voice: Bump bump, rider Tiel: A melody in wind. Child: My heart no longer beats. Tiel: And the child sings from the dirt/earth. Rammstein - Spieluhr (Play Hour - Creepiest song ever, prettymuch). Just one more thing, this is a good thing to keep in mind in general, in life: when you see the colors RED and BLACK and only these 2 colors, RUN tf away. You want nothing to do with those ppl.
Several feminist associations called for a boycott of the song. Some TV and radio stations in West Germany agreed and did not play the song "for ethical reasons", while others just played it on their charts shows. In East Germany, the song was not on air and playing it in dance clubs was prohibited. There were also demands to prohibit the song in West Germany, but officials denied the application in April 1986. This angered news presenter Dieter Kronzucker, who presented the daily news magazine heute-journal for the West German public TV station ZDF. Following this, further radio stations followed the boycott. In the German federal state of Hesse, the song was aired accompanied by a warning. In the popular music show Formel Eins [de] cutscenes were aired, but only whilst the song was at the top of the charts.
Written by 2 brothers, Bolland and Bolland from the Netherlands. This song is sooooooo amazing and belongs to the huge hits from the past for us in West Europe. So a pity the singer Johann Hölzel from Austria is not alive anymore! Others wrote the same you should listen to the songs (Rock Me, Amadeus)," and "(Der Kommisar), (and now for me I am going to search for these hits) by the same artist (F) FALCO

love this song and video. great reaction had me cracking up lol
Imagine making a song about a serialkiller now, you can go to jail for that lol. You gotta love the 80's where everything is possible, like "the police - every breath you take" song about a stalker :)
Mark,
That is absolutely true indeed. I truly appreciate you.
Love it. Great request by Alexis!! Next request for Part 2 :)!
This song was written by the dutch brothers Bolland and Bolland.
Was it? I did not know that.
"In Part I, the Jeanny character is portrayed by the 15-year-old Theresa Guggenberger"
This is really creepy
He is singing about a predator act and mind, also in europe on news there were lost and missing girls around
She is there in his mind tho she is dead
RIP Falco
Geht mir genau so.
Haunting voice and a tragic story.
Great song! One of my all time favorites.
I was having a pretty shitty day but your reaction to this one really made me laugh😂 so thank you!!
His red head 😂😂
@@esjet 😂 and those eyes. Just what I needed 👍
Glad the video lifted your spirits....great to hear! Cheers Suzette #TeamHighly
This is still one of my favorite songs of the 80ties ‼️ a deep message …
Falco ❤
Falco einer der besten Sänger ever. R. I. P. 😢🕯️ Falco🇩🇪
Jeanny 💔💔
Wikipedia excerpt
Ohne Freigabe durch Falco erschienen postum die Versionen Where Are You Now? (Jeanny Part III) (2000) und The Spirit Never Dies (Jeanny Final) (2009)."
One part was also banned at that time and many radio stations boycotted the song and did not play it.
Such a masterpiece song
Oh mei... ich bin verblüfft. Falco lacht im Himmel!! 😢🎉❤
memoriessss ! love this song !
Omg I laughed so hard again at your expressions and comments. I would love to see when you watch a movie haha
The "F" on Falco's trenchcoat in the video refers to the 1931 German film M by Fritz Lang in which a blind man marks the murderer with a chalk sign in the same way. (Wikipedia)
Thank you for that.
the F is a homage to the movie M from 1931, Jeanny (song) - Wikipedia, was looking up the actual song, wanted to see this. liked and subbed, hello from Cobourg Ontario Canada
Thanks for the sub and I am really glad that you enjoyed the reaction.
One of the most scandalous song of the 80's 😂 I found your channel searching for Falco's reactions, unfortunately few of them exists, keep growing with your channel! You gained a new subscriber with this reaction! Greetings from Brazil 😎🇧🇷
Welcome aboard!
This video was barred on MTV in the US, but it is one of my favorites. No one listens to this! Thank you!
You're welcome James!
A song to just sit back, be horrified and admire Falcos cudos for writing and performing this.
Coming Home is the part 2 of Jeanny Trilogy and Where Are You Now is the final chapter...you love it..
This song is written by the Dutch brothers Bolland & Bolland.
Ferdi & Rob.
Loved this reaction 😍 How refreshing to view this modern standpoint from the standpoint of a german woman who was experiencing this slightly disturbing but masterful piece of music in the 80s 😉
all songs from my childhood
NENA IS SUPER GERMAN!
Falco war ein Genie
ok ok i have to give you the credits , the best reaction video i have seen , well done
there is part 2, called Coming home,
She is there in the Call with him, because this are his mad visions he has there.
There is much german music so underated! Please listen peter fox! I am not german but a neighbour.
Rock Me Amadeus
Great song, with such a dark theme. Sung by an Austrian singer, in German and English, written by two Dutch brothers: Bolland & Bolland, who also wrote In The Army Now (made famous by Status Quo).
This song scared the shit out of me when I was a teenie, lol
This is the first of a serie of five songs
I know your video is old, but the F on his coat is a reference to „M - a town is looking for a murderer“ a legendary movie by Fritz Lang from 1931
Ohhh, I hadn't heard this song till I was 18 years old, almost same age as Jeanny...
The video was banned by a DJ and more DJ's followed
And why: it could give someone an idea....
Falco, this is the beginning of the 80 ties.
Child's voice: Bump bump, rider (Can also be translated as "up and down, rider" - in German "hoppe hoppe, reiter").
Tiel: A melody in wind.
Child: My heart no longer beats.
Tiel: And the child sings from the dirt/earth.
Child's voice: Bump bump, rider
Tiel: And no angel descends down.
Child: My heart no longer beats.
Tiel: Only the rain cries on the grave.
Child's voice: Bump bump, rider
Tiel: A melody in wind.
Child: My heart no longer beats.
Tiel: And the child sings from the dirt/earth.
A german/Austrian masterpiece 🤘🏻 Jeannnny
Sewer? What sewer. He is under a bridge next to a canal. 🙂Your funny!
