I'm 57, bought my violin 12 years ago but didn't get near it. Now I'm getting the chance to and so happy to find such great content and so many other beginners. NEVER TOO OLD!!!
how'z it going, Annie ? I can sympathize with your shared comment here. I've been ready to start for some time! Let's!!
@@FAM_40d40n I hope your violin journey is going well. I just started mine today, and that feeling of bowing your first open strings is just great. Good luck!
Yes just after I bought my violin My dad became ill and moved in with me. No matter how slow the going is just keep at it right?
Kaden, ... bless you! I've kept your response in my email notifications ~ to remind me to stay-the-course. Right now, needing consistency ...
@@FAM_40d40n as long as you pick it up everyday and tune it that's enough. And then you can wipe the strings and give it a kiss
I'm so excited to be learning to play the violin at 64 years old!! I'm realizing lately that the stories we tell ourselves determine our destiny, and it's never too late to rewrite our false narratives. I've always loved the violin, and I appreciate your teaching style - you explain well, you're very methodical and calm.Thank you so much.
Good luck with your playing! Enjoy!😊👍🎻
I am i same boat at 58 years attended first session of weekly violin class last week in Mumbai starting with how to holding bow. Very lucid video presentation for beginners like me.Thank you teacher.
Turning 50 next year!! Start my practise❤️🙏🏿😅
I beat you! I'm 72. I had two old violins that my Dad owned and played. I took one in to be refurbished and re-strung. It had not been out of its case for about 50 years! I don't think I'll be playing in an orchestra, but I'd be happy learning simple tunes. One thing the man in the violin shop told me was to NOT touch the horsehairs on the bow -- it might pick up oil from your fingers.
After having cancer 4 times in 2 years, and twice being given 6 months to live, I retired so I could enjoy what time I had left (that was 2018-2020). I am now in remission, and feeling reasonably well so decided to take up a new hobby. I have been playing piano since the 1960’s, so I already have extensive musical knowledge, but always fancied violin. Before this week I had never even touched one! It took me 2 days to be able to hold it correctly. (I have small and slopey shoulders so I now have a shoulder rest. As I am on benefits there is no way I can afford lessons, so thank you so much for doing these! You are doing it at a sensible speed too, but not in a patronising way. I am so looking forward to being able to play a few tunes. Thank you
Hi Lesley, what an inspiring story. Best of luck with your playing and more importantly with your health!
My wife and I, both in our early 70's and competent on various other musical instruments, decided to take up the violin this week. We found another RUclips site which after watching it for about 20 minutes very nearly made us give up! Then we found this site - what a difference! We now feel much more confident that buying a violin was a good move and look forward to progressing with your lessons. Thank you.
Hi Mike, thank you for you kind words. Buying the violin was an excellent idea. Good luck with your studies.
I guess Im randomly asking but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow lost the password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
I'm also in my 70's and prior to Covid, had private online lessons, but then stopped. I want to take it up again. . ..so hope these videos will help me.
I'm 27 and bought my violin yesterday. Thank you for releasing this course and I look forward to following along!
Wow that's cool I'm 28 and about to get one in a week or two. So happy to see that am not alone in starting late with violin

I'm 24 years old and I just bought a violin. I come from the beautiful country of Vietnam. I was surfing Tiktok and saw your video so I came here. I just finished watching your Day 1 video.
Welcome! Hope you enjoy watching lots of the violin videos 🎻🎻
When I was 16 I was 2 pieces away from finishing book 1 of the Suzuki Method, now I am 35 and got my old violin from my parents house. I’m gonna start again following this 30 day course. Thank you so much, I’ve been trying to find the right method in the vast youtube universe and I find your teachings best for me. Thanks again!
Hi PoLenChos, thank you for sharing this with us! Good luck with your playing! Best wishes from the UK.

Really helpful for beginners. Thanks. 🎉
I’m unbelievably excited to learn how to play. I’m 30 years old and have been fascinated since I was very young.
I long await to be able to portray my emotions, as I feel that they are so intense only music can express them. I plan to let the violin show me the way! Thank you for your teachings!
Excellent! Good luck👏👏👏
Yesterday I bought the violin to learn it, but I was very afraid because I would learn it without a music teacher, but now I feel that part of the fear has gone, thank you.
We are together in this 😢😂
I took Suzuki lessons from 4-6 y.o…and now in my late 50’s. Got a violin for Christmas and look forward to learning how to play again.
I bought a violin 4 years ago but didn't play it because of a busy schedule. but thanks to lockdown and your online lessons, I spend my free time playing the violin and cope it with my sadness.
Hi Adam good to hear from you! That’s what violins are for: bringing solace and joy
I'm so excited to be learning to play the violin at 42 years old!! My siblings are musically gifted, but I thought that gene had passed over me somehow. I'm realizing lately that the stories we tell ourselves determine our destiny, and it's never too late to rewrite our false narratives. I've always loved the violin, and I appreciate your teaching style - you explain well, you're very methodical and calm.
You’re so right. Thanks for your lovely comment. 🎻👍🎻👍
I am one of 5 siblings and totally relate to your comments. It is never too late to rewrite false narratives. Enjoy your own journey. Xx
You're the loveliest teacher! What a great lesson. I'm going to continue from here.
I'm so shocked to see a few others with my story. I played for 2 years in Highschool and finally have the time to try to get back into it. My mother also housed the instrument and I finally got it back and fixed up. I'm 58. I'm so happy to find you. I think it will come back but it was discouraging not to remember even how to put the chin rest on. Thank you!!!
Take your time, there's no rush! Glad you're here 👏🎻👏🎻
thank you very much for the tutorial, i will try this when i get my violin in 3 days
I took lessons for 8 years as an adult then life got in the way 13 years ago. I’m picking it back up now and I think starting from scratch is best. Thank you for putting these online! I live in a small mountain community and we no longer have a violin teacher.
Hi JM Williams, thanks for your message. Glad to help, and I hope you enjoy your violin journey. Good luck! 🤞
I am a beginner and I found this video extremely helpful.I have been looking at various videos since last 2 months but didn't find anyone as suitable for beginners as this one. Well done!

hello, how's your progress?🤗
@@micahumagtam2110 doesn't it kill you when they don't ever respond?
I'm nearly 78 and just bought my first violin. But music runs in me and my family.
My cousin Reba Nell used to sing with Elvis before he hit the big times.
On Saturday nights back in the early 50's Elvis would come down to Little Rock to a musical get together they held at the Robinson Auditorium. My cousin Reba (who was older than me and drop dead gorgeous!) and Elvis would sing duets on stage.
My great uncle Ray Winkler owned radio stations across Texas and Arkansas. As a result he rubbed elbows with many country artists.
One of these was "Gentleman Jim Reeves" of country music fame.
Uncle Ray Co - wrote the country hit "Welcome to my World" with Gentleman Jim. He also wrote over a hundred others some of which made modest hits across the South.
I've been wanting to play the violin forever but am just getting around to it even though I've played harmonicas all my life.
As a boy there was a younger kid, friend of my kid brother, that lived down the street from us on the outskirts of Little Rock.
His older brothers loved music and even though they were dirt poor, had many friends in the rock/country music genres. Guys like Roy Orbison would swing by to jam with them every so often.
The kid's name was Richard Shook who went on to form the group "The Merging Traffic" and sing the one hit wonder "Bit by Bit".
Well guys I've overstayed my welcome but look forward to sawing away at my soon to arrive violin!
Carry on dudes and dudettes!

Hi Frank, what a lovely story. Thank you for sharing. You certainly have music in your genes! Good luck with your violin 👍🎻👍🎻

I am 43 years old and suddenly playing the violin is an skill set I want to have to enjoy it. First time trying and I feel this method and your teaching is super clear to me. I am learning and supper happy. Thank you. Much appreciated. By the way, I am left handed, so I am using a left handed violin and it is fantastic.
You are the best violin teacher here on RUclips. Very calm and patient
Thanks! 🎻🎻🎻
Thank you, I am 23 years old and I have not one musical bone in my body but the violin kept on popping up in my head, I started doing bunch of research on it caz I wanted to know more of this instrument that wouldn’t leave my mind… one day I dreamt about me playing the violin at church for the Lord and that was confirmation. I bought my first violin last week Friday and I’m so excited. Thank you for your videos, I’ll keep you updated on my progress. God bless you
Hola saludos desde argentina como te está yendo tu progreso con el violín?

Awesome. I had been looking for an inspiring video like this that really teaches how to play the violin which is one of the most beautiful pieces to create music .
Awesome, thank you!
I am 58 and just bought a 3/4 violin. Your video is excellent. Thank you
Why did you buy the smaller size?
Thank you for your calm & professional teaching presentation. As a new beginner, I searched the You Tube, and selected you to follow. I hope thru your teaching and my desire & effort, I will be able to play my violin adequately. I am 68 now and goal is along with learning guitar on my own, to rock on by 70. Thanks again!!
Hi Mickey, thanks for your comment. I am sure you will, just keep going slowly. Any questions please ask. Good luck 🤞🎻
Thank you for this video. I am heading into my 50 years and lately developed a deep longing to learn the violin and move away from the guitar. I am left handed, so I am literally just going to hold a right handed violin upside down and place it on my right shoulder. 40 years ago when I learnt the guitar, I just turned it upside down and started playin it straight away, so I thought, I will do the same with a violin and just see how I go. I will keep you posted.
Very clear instructions. I had a pleasant feeling throughout the lesson. Thanks
Such a lovely video!
I’m planning on getting a violin and hopefully this will help me to learn. A very clear video.
Go for it! Good luck 🍀🎻🎻🎻
I bought my violin last week and my suzuki book volume 1 to 8 just arrived yesterday. Due to having busy business trips until End May, I am forced to delay my first class until June. Now, i am kinda of relying on these classes as warm up to practice before attending to the actual classes. Bc i just can't stand a minute doing nothing with my violin in the case for a month.😂😂
I used to go to class as a kid and even finished vol.3 of this book which i barly remember, but then I havn't touched my violin for almost 10 years.I'm hoping i can start over with these videos so thank you for putting the time and making them❤
Best of luck with your playing 🍀. Enjoy the journey and ask any questions here as you go along. 🎻

I am brand new to the violin. It is an instrument that I have always loved and wanted to play. I played the guitar and piano as a young person but have never taken the opportunity to learn the violin until now and I am 68 years old. My father who is 92 gave me his violin and challenged me to learn to play, so I found your course and I am giving it a go.

You have explained it very nicely... it will definately help me improve my violin skills. Thanks ... 💕
I just found your channel. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!! Love your techniques
Love that enthusiasm
Hello I found your channel today and decided I'm going to go through the 30 day course. I am in the process of taking a violin I've had for over 20 years into a fellow to put new strings on it and hair on the bow. I don't know how to play it but I've wanted for as long as I've had it. It's a German violin and has a French bow which I'm told is one I shouldn't let kids play with. lol I've rented a violin a couple of times over the last 10 years but I'm not a note reader and have no desire to learn. I learned the guitar when I was young most by ear but started with a few basic cords. My dad used to play guitar at home all the time and I've always been wanting to play music especially the violin and piano. So wish me luck I just subscribed and hope we can all walk away proud to be able to play this instrument with a smile.😉
Hi Hiker X, thanks for your comment. You will, just keep going. Any questions please ask and if you can, come and join us for the live class this Thursday at 10am. Good luck!
In another video they told you that when you rosin your bow after that you can use a toothbrush to carefully spread the rosin in the bow for a better sound
I have never heard of that or tried it.
Thanks for this video. I'm 68, never played music before and want to try violin. But first need to get a violin. I will start by following your courses. So what beginners violin to buy? Also a Suzuki book? What else? Any recommendations?

Hi, good luck! 🎻👍🎻👍
Very good teacher
Greetings from Ukraine!
Have just saw your video, everythig is so amazing!
I'm a piano tech and music composer, song writer and multy-instrument player, love music and singing.
I's my childhood dream to play violin, so I've started to learn about 19 months ago and arter while from my start i've heaard about Suzuki method, mut I had never try that.
Thank you so much for such a great explanation. It's a brilliant videos to me and I'll practice in just a way you showed here.
My first 3/4 violin was gived to me since I've started to learn. After a year or something I got another 3/4 violin with better sound. But it became broken at violin neck and the violin itself doesn't feets all the measurements, so it's immpossible to use it. :(
It's war in Ukraine and me with my family had to move to other town for about 9 months ago. I'm searching daily for any order of composing and producing music and I understand that I have no budget to just buy a nice sounding violin. I'm not sure the one I have can be fixed or repaired. But I would love to practice a lot and then (when I will learn to play vibratto) to use the violin in my music compositions.
If you or anyone you know have any violin (3/4 or 4/4) and doesn't need it, can that be possible to ship it to Ukraine? I would love to buy a good one, but we are struggeling to survive here and the violin music helping me to take my attention of the war and the news and to find some peace to my soul.
Please let me know if you are interrested.
There's some music on my channel, please welcome to watch.
Thank you so much for taking your time to read my comment.
Kind regards...
I like this video and will continue to learn with this. Very helpful :-) Thanks for your efforts
Thanks, and best wishes for your playing from the UK

You seemed so nice and friendly - thank you for a wonderful lesson!
You're very welcome!
Excellent work Dear. 👏✔
Thanks
I am a 66 old and decided that I would like to learn to play violin. It is my understanding that the Suzuki method of learning to play is more based on learning to play by ear than reading sheet music. My intent is to learn to play for my own entertainment/satisfaction. Let's just say that I have no plans to audition for any symphony! Is this a method that you would recommend for someone like me? Many thanks for your input.
Go for Crickboom violin method. It is a better approach to self-taught violinist enthusiasts.
Go for it! Certainly

It sure is!
Thanks so much for that useful video i won't forget it Baucus i thought i never can be able to learn play violin and make that dream become true
Très bonnes explications malgré mon Anglais insuffisant .
As one who has no miusical bones, i have bought a very cheap instrument to see if anything works for me, however, maybe it is the quality or lack of in the bow, that no matter how much rosin I attempt to apply, there is little friction to induce a viable sound, where am i going wrong.
Hi John, thanks for your message. It is tricky for me to give reliable individual advice, but I’ll try and give some pointers. Firstly, you say you have already applied a generous amount of rosin. That’s good. When you rosin a tightened bow, can you see white powder coming onto the bow?
Secondly has your violin been set up properly? That means: are the strings set so low that you can easily press them down onto the fingerboard without the strings clattering onto the fingerboard at their lowest point? Thirdly: what about the bridge? I am
Wondering if it is set in the correct place, namely lined up with the indents in the f-holes.if you are not sure, please ask your local luthier to have a look at the setup, or I can have a look at it if you book an online lesson via my website. I can understand your rationale for choosing a cheap instrument initially. However, cheap violins are not easy to play, but they should make a sound. If not, you may have been mis sold your instrument and you may get back to the seller if the points above don’t work. Best of luck 🤞🎻
@@violinclasses Thank you very much for that, I wondered if being something a bargain basement [well what does someone with a total lack of musical talent get for $70.00] if what ever a cheap bow was stringed with, may not be receptive to receiving rosin. However I will persist, Thank you. {age wise I qualify for the "OBE"]
@@adoreslaurel I have a very cheap violin (100)and very cheap bow I bought my bow at Walmart for $10. Everything is working fine there's all kinds of videos on RUclips where you can learn how to take care of your violin slow but sure and it will make you feel a lot better any violin can be good if you can get it in proper shape with your rosen take a pin or something and scratch it up a little bit or a coin then the rosen will come off onto your bow.
if your pegs are slipping don't loosen all your strings. loosen ONE string pull the PEG out and put some Peg wax on it or you can just use some powdered resin and put that around the peg then push the peg back in put the string back in the hole and tighten it up. go to RUclips Kevin Lee luthier RUclips channel
he will tell you EXACTLY which way to wind your string so they stay right.
The violin bridge is also something you can learn how to maintain and fit properly to your violin just take it one step at a time you will learn
Ps
Don't use Peg drops. I learned my lesson the hard way I guess they're good for something but not for sticking OR slipping pegs.
Lol buy the the wax crayon type thing that comes in a metal tube.
Oh and one more excellent tip I got from Henriette on this channel if your baby finger is slipping off the Bow grow the fingernail just a little bit until your baby finger is strong enough
@@deadmanswife3625 Thank you for your advice, strings seem to beholding ok, its the E string that seems resistant to the bow, tried warming the Rosin, I will persist with this until I succeed.
Thank you for the video. Regarding tuning, what do you consider way out of tune? A semitone? Whole tone? So I can know to use the top knob or the bottom. Thank you in advance
Hi Justin, for any out of tune note more than a tiny bit out of tune you can use the pegs. Provided that these are easy to operate, which is not always the case. Fine tuners are literally that: to fine tune the notes and no more than that.
@@violinclasses makes good sense. Thank you
