Indeed. This was also the year of Riverdance and at the time I remember there being speculation that Ireland only won because of Riverdance but the truth is the voting was already going on (and may have even finished) by the time Riverdance actually came on. This song won on pure merit. A proper songwriter's song in a competition that was supposed to be about songwriting.
Pure perfection no big staging no special effects just two incredibly talented song writers singing a beautiful song, so glad we won with this song it was effortless and deserved the win
2022 and listening to this pure gem. Feeling both beauty and sadness for the moments that won't come back. We all were those rock'n'roll kids in some way...
Absolutely spot on, hit the nail on the head, a different time, and a beauty and times that you just wish would always be. Before life time mortgages and combi boilers and double glazing

Yeah! Fortunately there is Ireland to still offer real song otherwise the Eurovision contest has become nonsense; I don't even look anymore, it's so scandalous! First of all, this competition should be reserved for European countries, then we should force the singers to sing in their original language and not, as we have already seen, Russians or Swedes and others sing in English. My best memories are Gigliola Cinquetti (Non ho l'heta) or Johnny Logan (What's another year), among others.
Man, I remember my dad listening to this over and over when I was a kid. He was close friends with the Harrington's(mainly Paul's brother Derek). He was so proud of them for winning and used to play this for anyone who'd listen. Great memory. RIP Bob and Derek.
@@robbiealquellamanrobbie Here's another Spaniard! But, let me tell you that two years before (1992) Serafín Zubiri represented Spain 🇪🇸 with the song "Todo esto es la música", and I find his final result really disappointing (he ended 14th with only 37 points), when I think that such a beautiful song deserved to be at least in the Top 10, don't you? But guess what? That year Ireland 🇮🇪 won again!
Anyway, the Ireland's victory of that year (1994) was more than clear (226 points vs. 166 for the 2nd country, Poland 🇵🇱), yet well-deserved, since it brings back the faith in musical 🎶 talent to you, me and I'd say virtually every Eurofan, do you agree?
@@danielhorrachsanchez4710 absolutely. And i believe Ireland won 4 years straight or something like that. But this was just a simple yet beautiful song. Very well written and performed. These days music is over produced, when it used to be a nice beat/guitar riff and good vocals. You're totally spot on because kids will look at those kinds of musicians, who aren't some made up pop star, but rather just an ordinary person with hard work and talent. One of the most beautiful winning songs of the Eurovision contest! After all these years, it still can touch my heart! Beautiful song, besutiful voices, beautiful message! THANK YOU, GUYS!
1994 was one of the few vintage Eurovision years with the runner up Edyta Gorniak singing "To nie ja" being good enough to have won it in nine years out of ten. So this Irish song had to be a good one to beat that in my opinion.
I've listened to all the Eurovision winners from Lys Assia to 56 to Maneskin in 21 and this is my favourite. I remember watching this live as a 9 year old in 94 and loving it and I still love it today. 🇮🇪

This is one of the best Eurovision Song Contest winners ever. This song is just fantastic, Why we didn't pull out of this years ago is beyond me. When this competition was just about the songs, we knew how to win, We have 7 wins more than any other country. I haven't watched the Song Contest in fuckin years but it played a big part in my Childhood :) I loved it back then, all the family would gather round my house every year & watch it, We used go absolutely nuts when we won (: the 90s were Fantastic!!!
We never sent in a song hoping to lose it, (WTF are ya' talkin' about) lol. Just look at the interval act, We were never going to lose it (: We'll never win it again that's for sure.
It's because you send shit songs nowadays, that's the only reason. And you especially only did well in the 90s because of the language rule. It gave the U.K. and Ireland a HUGE advantage because they were the only ones who were able to send songs in English.
jeffiner1892 the rumour was this song was sent to lose as it was a male duo and a male duo had never won up to then singing a song very statically presumably due to RTE's lack of funds to host the contest 3 years consecutively
Why would You use such an exaggeration? I agree with anyone saying it's a very good song, maybe even worth winning in 1994, despite some alleged controversy (Poland as 2nd), but whether it's the best one in eurovision's history is way too far said/written. Just check out all the winners since 1956. It's amazing how many great compositions have been made. My favourites would be Eimear Queen - "The voice" (Ireland) from 1996 and Secret Garden - "Nocturne" (Norway). Cheers!
