What about insieme 1992, rock me baby, hold me now and what's another year I'm a huge Eurovision historical fanatic Estonia in 2001 (winners) were also good= everybody
The funny thing is that I actually remember some parts of this and later on same year I heard it on the radio. I was like 3 years old...but this is part of my childhood summer memories. Getting a bit nostalgic. Greetings from your neighboring country Sweden.
Back in 2000 I was in Samarkand train station waiting for a train when a girl started singing the Russian contribution to Eurovision. Little did I know then that a Danish duo won Eurovision that year that I had listened a lot to back in 1973-5. I think the girl sang the song to show me that she knew some English. Solo was in English. I even learned the lyrics to the song back then.
I was just watching this Eurovision for the first time and it's SOOO 00's! 🤣 This song is great, surprising but really great! And they seem to be really loved by the ESC community too! ❤
Tim Klok This is why: www.billedbladet.dk/kendte/danmark/musik/broedrene-olsen-er-skuffede They got rejectet by DR, which is Denmarks Radio who have the rights for Eurovision, they instead got some free tickets for the show !!
I was downright dissapointet, and instead came up with something really lame.... Take that from a Dane... Stupid DR and with their political China thingy
My little brother was a baby boy, when this came out. Everytime when he was cryin, we played this song and he stopped immediatly and began to laugh and smile 😄
The winning song the year I was born. Actually, I wasn't born when this won because it was on May 2000 and I was born on October 18, 2000 but I was in my mum's belly I guess, that's something :P
@Yuyi01a Oh sweetheart, you were born on the same year as my youngest son, and born on the same day as my middle son, who was born in 1993. LOL. Give your Mum a hug from me. Xxx
In retrospect, it's not surprising that they won Eurovision. Two middle-aged dudes competing in a contest that got younger and younger. It came across as charming because it seemed like they were totally relaxed about the whole thing. 1:08 I like the way he smiles ☺️. He was probably thinking "Are we really doing this right now?" 😀. It's a beautiful composition and I think what also makes the song are a few gimmicks like the shakuhachi flute at the beginning and the autotune effect on one chorus, which wasn't used as much back then as it is now. The lyrics don't reinvent the wheel, but sometimes that's all you need to know ... "Fly On The Wings Of Love" 😇. By the way, Stefan Raab, the contestant for Germany that year, said in his TV show after contest that he predicted that the Olsen Brothers would win because the song was very well received in the venue during rehearsals alone.
I am the only who thinks this song deserved to win? Considering how many comments says that the winner didn't deserve to win, I hope someone thought it deserved to win.
Did anyone here ever listen to the original Danish edition of this song? The edition that was wrote into English to fit into Eurovision? Listen right here: ruclips.net/video/PBhIsMWuTM0/видео.html
I used to work at the reception desk of Hotel Saga. Whenever some company had their annual staff party they would invariably at some point play this song in the ball room and sing along really loud and I would pray that the attendees wouldn't crash through the floor 😂. At the same time I really enjoyed it ❤️.
The bookmakers had a hard time predicting anything those years (1998-2003). They didn't have a clue onhow the public would vote and they were still basing most predictions on the juries....
I remember hearing Conchita Wurst for the first time and thinking this will win... bookmakers had it at 66/1... always kick myself I didn't place money on it
It was a similar story in 1994, Ireland had a similar act, two men, no acoustics etc. with their song the Rock and Roll Kids not expected to win and they did. Talk about history repeating itself lol
And, Yeees, We have a Winner....Danmark. Yeees, your so Wright about that. Sounded so good, looking so good ( it was 23 years a go) .There are still " My cup of tea ". Heja Danmark.
I remember this too good....back in the day there was a telephone Hotline where you could hear little bits of every participant's song and when the Olsen Brothers came on my mom and I instantly said THIS would be the winner in a perfect world...where no East European countries shuffle their neighbors all the high points 😢 When they really won I broke down laughing and crying, I was so happy and not only for these 2 wonderful guys but also for me because this marked my first and last time I got the winner right 👍❤️
I am from Denmark and i was born in 1996. I remember keeping my self awake and my mom yelled to my Dad:'' Keep yourself awake, if you ever want to se Denmark win.'' But for me this song is just great both in English and Danish.
This song has it all, the lyrics, the melody, the rhythm, the chorus, the latino style, their beautiful voices and two grown men with a guitar, and the song is timeless
This song is one of those one's when you hear them you know that's the one, that's the winner. Absolutely simple (no fireworks and other crazy stuff), still absolutely phenomenal! Hats off, Olsen Brothers!
They were having so much fun during this that I can't stop smiling.
Great song and a worthy winner
Its great to hear Niels is cancer free! For now at least. Sending love from Lielahti Finland
One of the best songs in Eurovision history 👌
The best I think and I would have being only one year old when this came out.

September 2000
the fucking voices. fucking briliant sound, we'll never hear that again.
Other than ABBA and Lordi, why these Olsen Brothers come next to mind when talking about great Eurovision winners? They're so good?

the song has a killer chorus. That is what floored them all. One of the greatest hook lines you will ever hear. Listen to the bass.
I remember the cover song, and this are great i can see why it won.
The lyrics are great the brothers are likeable.
Millennium A new age dawned. And the Olsen Brothers right in the middle, who also ushered in a new era at the ESC with their unforgettable song.
Great song love it

Mickey Mouse is old, from 1928. This is real Micky Mouse, but in 2000. XD
Must be the Illuminati then :P
Still lovely song❤
The best Eurovision winner ever
Jeg har altid været meget begejstret for Brødrenses vokal harmonier. Fly on the wings of love er sammen med Waterloo all time winners.
Bonita cancion :)
Es mi favorito
Who had actually thought those 2 old men could perform and win with one of the best songs ever in ESC
Less of the old. They're just good looking young men !😜
@@maryclynch9356 Yeah... Age is just a number..!! 😊
He has a unique voice! One of my favourite songs of theirs is "Fugle"(Birds): ruclips.net/video/bEkfALUa4tY/видео.html
Weren’t they in their mid/late-40s at that time? That’s not really, like, at all.
@@annatuvstarr yep - 46 and 50 respectively.
And 1 year later till 2023 Scottish lads and lass drink cheap wine and beer to a remix
its so funny to me how in 2000 everyone wanted to make everything futuristic because this did NOT need that effect in the bridge
Good o'l times
This was the last year that I watched all of the eurovision song contest from beginning to end.
I don't understand your comment?
Der Sänger hat eine Stimme ähnlich John Denver. Ich liebe den Song.
I like the techo virsion
I didn't know until like ten years later that the XTM version was a remix of a Eurovision winning song. The OG still isn't half bad
22 years ago holy mother of Time where did fly away
Very Danish, yet very universal
It's a beautiful song although I like it faster.Put it on 1.25x and you will start dancing wherever u are 😂😂😂♥️
I am the only who thinks this song deserved to win? Considering how many comments says that the winner didn't deserve to win, I hope someone thought it deserved to win.
Our thoughts are with Niels. Just read about it.
Oh my... Seriously don't we have enough bad things happening in the world right now :(

They are live!!! WOW. All other EV artists sing on a hologram.
DANMARK HURRA I 2000 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
I thought autotune or any processing was forbidden on Eurovision back in the days
Acabo de enterarme que esta es la versión original 😳
Done into a dance classic in the UK just two years later!
Dieser Song wird niemals alt auch nicht wenn ich es realisiere das es schon 24 Jahre her ist 😮
Still the best song that have ever won
Some similarities to We Got The World by Micky Joe Harte but they're 2 different songs
Brawo Danio!!!

2:21 his voice sounds autotuned
Woaw good job, one might add that there's a difference between a sound effect and autotune.

Yeah
I remember the bookmakers predict 14th place for this song.
Oh boy am I glad they were so wrong
Stefan Sigfinnsson that’s why you should never trust the odds
The bookmakers had a hard time predicting anything those years (1998-2003). They didn't have a clue onhow the public would vote and they were still basing most predictions on the juries....
They said it was "just another ballad" and also because they were the oldest performers. One of the best Eurovision songs ever

Yeah, this song is one winner material. The key they used was simplicity and 'Love'.
The moment I heard this song I knew it was a winner.
