It's such a pita to find these motors. I have been sitting on a dead one for a year and had no idea how to remove the plastic top. I watched this was able to disassemble and fix my window motor.

This is an excellent tutorial for e30 owners with window motor issues. New OEM and aftermarket e30 window motors are no longer available so the only options are to restore your existing motor or source used one from eBay (if you can find one) or salvage one. I am going to try to restore mine using this video as a guide.

Great video. Tip. If you end up pulling the armature out and the brass bearing comes out,(because it seized on to the shaft) re stake it as best you can,(you might have to bend a tab or two back)Then get a kids paint brush and some JB Weld. Stake the bushing as best you can. JB weld around the stake tabs with the kids paint brush.
Be fast! Put the motor together as fast as you can. To centre the shaft and bearing. Worked out for me. 👊

Thanks for the information. I took the motor apart but my motor shaft is seized to the bushing at the bottom of the housing. I will try to free the bushing by soaking it in a solvent. 🤞

Great video, I couldn't find a passenger side window motor anywhere online. My 86 325es motor was rusted horribly but I got it cleaned up and working. I took the magnets out of the casing and cleaned them up as well. Had issues cleaning the very bottom of the motor housing where the ball shaped bearing sits, and that damned retaining clip down there gave me trouble but i got it working. Also removed the window track and cleaned that up. Works now! Thanks!

i’ve actually already cleaned/lubed and reassembled my motors, but I was wondering if I should be able to (somewhat freely) turn the gears by hand if i use an allen key in the outside hole.. i have everything pulled out of my doors right now, (including the wonky regulators) so it would be nice to know before i end up putting everything back in the doors and it turns out i have to pull it all back out.

  • @webwebber

Okay!!! I finally got to do the job today. Firstly, if you are going to remove the whole motor you’re going to need a Phillips socket, or at least I needed to remove the bracket that holds the track against the motor. It’s 4 Phillips screws. Second if you are going to just refresh the brushes and motor shaft, you may be able to attempt and just use a 20torx long, and remove the 2 screws from underneath. You may be able to remove out downwards and do the cleaning and refresh and just pop back in. That way you don’t need to deal with the bracket and getting the motor back in the track and align the gear. Because that was a pain n the ass.
    So tools are:
10mm socket for the 3 motor nuts.
Phillips socket if you’re removing the whole motor( bracket in the back)
20torx to remove the motor shaft casing out of the plastic gear housing.
You may want to grease and refresh the track, lube everything, and enjoy your window again.

That's not damage on the rotor. The'ts how they balance them at the factory, they just grind a part away with e Dremel style tool.

@@f.s.detailgarage7869 Of course. Open any electric motor. Here's how its done now with V-grooves ruclips.net/video/NxAxw8mUMiI/видео.html but back in the 80's, they just took a grinder to it. The rotor would not be able to operate in the angle of the balance marks. Also, the magnets inside the stator are much softer than the rotor and the rotor would grind them, not the other way around.
