We were there. Drove up from San Diego that evening. Was hoping to see some kind of long couple of hours special. A lot of us are in our 70’s now but, We Still Rock.
Still brilliant.
And the funny thing is:
Glenn Hughes is STILL singing like this, 50 years on.... 😎👍🙏
He steals the show there, knowing that all others are already amazing!
Mark III 🔥
Yep, I was there. I was 11 days away from turning 18. Sabbath, Deep Purple, ELP...easily my absolute favorite bands at that time and ALL on the same stage!!! Cal Jam will always top my list of greatest concert day EVER!
Do you remember where the location was? South or North side of the 10 freeway?
Круто, я вам завидую , я только родился в 1979 году, привет из России🤟👍🤝🤘👌
@@davepage2466
I want to say south side, only because I was coming from Canoga Park. Heading south.
@@victhedude417 Thanks! I'll have to do some research because this event happened when I was 10 days old-so things have changed a bit!
How was the sound there?
Ritchie Blackmore is the master of guitar.
He sure is, my friend. The very best
50 years of ROCK! Blackmore's sound! DC's voice, Glenn's screaming voice and cranking bass, Jon Lord's BIG organ and Ian's fast hands! WHA? Deepest Purple!..
Absolutely phenomenal performance! I didn't know that Jon Lord had a BIG organ, he was always standing behind his keyboards.
going to see them on my birthday for the first time. 09/11/ 24 Ok no ritchie. But ive seen everybody else .Why not.
Wow!!! One of the best live performance ever!!!!
Here’s 2 songs for ya
😅😅
Lol😂
Coverdale is great SInger and they are all fantstic players you must love this finest band In the world 🇫🇮😜🤪😁
Just finished watching the entire show on my well worn VHS I’ve had since about 1988 😂😂. Happy 50th CalJam
50 Years ago and I was there, WTF.
16 years old, drove from Las Vegas and brought two girlfriends of mine along.
To this day it was one of the best experiences of my life and I remember it vividly like it was yesterday so I’m definitely freaking out that it was 50 years ago.
All the bands were great, especially Deep Purple and ELP.
The sound was amazing, I was sitting pretty much in the middle of crowd semi close to the stage with the speaker towers behind me, the perfect sweet spot for the sound.
I’m still a rocker and a working professional musician in Vegas to this day, going to the Cal Jam I guess has kept me young 😊.
I remember there was a very attractive skinny girl sitting close by me that noticed I was totally checking her out, if you are her and you’re reading this hit me back, or have your daughter contact me 😅
Love, Davyo
Hi Man! Great an idea!🎉 Greetings from Bulgaria, Europe, from one DP's big fan!😊
Ricthie Blackmore,David Coverdale,Glenn Hughes,Ian Paice and Jon Lord...Deep Purple Mark 3.
Power of DC’s vocal. Fantastic stuff.
Wow..memories.. I loved Deep Purple.. I was 18 in 1974. Just graduated high school, loved tripping and going to concerts.. The good ol days..
Back then David was an innocent lamb 🐑 Glenn was never innocent , and a rainbow 🌈 was just a rainbow 😃
What a great Concert
Rock was so intense at that time that we can't believe this show took place just 5 years after Woodstock!
Imagine all the songs, all the albums in just 5 or 6 years...
Today it would take DECADES to match all that creativity from '69 to '74. Unbelievable...
Facts
This is lightyears beyond anything at Woodstock and in just five years. Crazy man.
Wow. I've seen the concert many times but never with the video quality looking so good. Will you release the whole performance in this quality?
Prefer Mk2 but Burn is my fave Purple track! Work that one out! 😵
I think it's a better riff than Smoke on the Water.
my thoughts exactly
You're probably right! Remember listening to this performance on the Friday Rock Show back in the day! 😀
That guy sitting on the scaffolding watching the band is one lucky dude.
😄 I was just noticing that fellow
That was me.
Absolutely awesome!!!!!!!!!! After all these years, still magical!!! :)
This is Rock music... Unbelievable amount of talent on a stage together.
Jon Lord what a Master of hammonds ✊
What a VOICEEEEE
I was three years old in that month of 1974; Deep Purple great👏
Legendary ❤️🔥
Dear DC, we have to thank YOU 💜
April 06th,1974, a historic day in pop and rock history: a then still unknown Swedish band called ABBA win the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton, England with "Waterloo", I saw it on TV as an almost 8-year-old (my first Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson, as it was called back then) - the starting signal for an incredible career and on that day Deep Purple played as co-headliners with Emerson, Lake and Palmer at the Cal Jam and 30 years later Jon Lord from Deep Purple and Anni-Frid Lyngstad from ABBA recorded songs together - sometimes the world is that small...
Unforgettable ❤
Great work on the sound and video improvement. Epic music history
FENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!😮

Incredible. Outstanding. So emotional and into it. Deep Purple are not underrated but to some of the Gen Z'ers may be. Wake up younger GENS. Friggan Deep Purple! Listen to Highway Star cranked with a nice sound and close your eyes without any interruption. So tight.
Outstanding.
I went to both 1and 2 have photos black sabbah was good elp was good they were all good was fifteen
I'm going to get slated for this but this in my opinion was the best version of purple

They all just killing it, amazing performance and line-up 👍
Same riff to cant happen here. Ten years .
Those were the times...!
Saw they on the tour as a fifteen year old teen with my one year younger brother on 23 march 1975 in DORTMUNDER WESTFALENHALLE. And we both have the original tickets ; - )
The most powerful versions ever.
Much Euphoria! Happy 50 Anniversary!! 💜💜💜💜💜

I was there!
Watching at sunset 4/6/2024, exactly 50 years since I watched the ABC broadcast on TV in '74. Hard to believe how fast time flys...tempus fugit.
最高😆❤️❤️❤️
..да Девид как молоды мы были
I wish I had that Stratocaster, beautiful piece, and performance was killer ,especially the getaway part (Blackmore called for a chopper) after the explosion
Wow! DC Power!
Awesome
I was there with my buddy, Chuck. We drove in from Las Vegas and spent the night at a friends place. We were 5 minutes from the Ontario Motor Speedway. Took the back roads to get there. Great time!!! Damn I'm OLD!!!!
I remember it well. Awesome!✌️☮️❤️
Eu tinha -7 nessa época. Curto pra caramba até hoje 😂

The Song of a Life!!!
отличное выступление группы.
From memory… Never been to California before, never been to America before… make him welcome, David Coverdale!
What an amazing performance. I remember seeing this on In Concert in 1974, and I became a huge fan of Purple!
Me too! Greetings from Bulgaria, Europe!Long live DP 'Rock for ever!🎉
Omg, burn.. so good! 🥰
Real musicians, no backing tracks, no cell phones. A way better time.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great indeed! I mean, I love the Coverdale/Hughes/Blackmore songwriting. And I can only imagine how amazing spring 1974 was. Queen had their breakthrough with their album „Queen II“, KISS released their debut album, UFO finished recordings of „Phenomenon“, Rush released „Working Man“ etc. Along with all these amazing news around, this Cal Jam event must have been THE highly anticipated and electrifying festival for rock and hardrock fans. Simply WOW!!!!
Great
👻🔥🤘🤘🤘🎶🎤🎶🎸🎶🤘🤘🤗
I was 2 in 74. Can’t even imagine a lineup like this. Tickets were probably 8 bucks 😂😂😂
Ricthie Blackmore,Ian Gillan,Roger Glover,Ian Paice and Jon Lord.. Deep Purple Mark 2..
Лучший состав!
My musical love starts with "Burn" and of course with DC...until today. DC forevermore. ....and I have to say it once: Thank you DC for 50 years of great musical support!!!
Jon Lord is the keyboardist of the era
Richie Blackmore The best guitarist of the Ian Paice is the best drummer of the era as well
GOAT......
Hi Dave. I met you in Worcester, Massachusetts when you were coming out of a Strawberries record store.
💜 ❤💜🙏🎉🙏
Amazing! "Mistreated" was a tour de force performance. Your high notes at the end--soul stirring‼️‼️‼️ I could pen a commentary on that & expand it out to a short non-fiction novel from the 'dawn of time' through a matrix of time to most recent realities...so deeply rendered were those high notes, and of course the entire performance!👏👏👏
Yet I am at the same time reverberating speechless!
(Too melodramatic am I?
Let me conclude then 😅😅 by saying--
RUclips can truly ruin ecstatic listening moments all the time, to a fault!!!
"Applebee's boneless chicken wings"?!
"Grocery Outlet"?!
REALLY? NOW?
THIS INSTANT???!😤)
----------> However...
Magnificent. Stellar! 😍
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Have a great 50 yr anniversary🎉🎉🎉
