The kids today have no idea what they missed. This was back when singers could sing. Everything from hard rock to soft was still a ballard. When you went to a concert the band was actually singing the song with no help except from the PA. What you heard was his voice with every perfection as well as imperfection. Greatest era period.
And we had Record Albums and 8Tracks!
You sound like my dad 😆 we know that we had the best music 🎶
FFS my father used to so the same shit back then. Also for every good band in the 60s,70s and 80s there was an army of crap bands. There’s plenty of amazing music today but most people are too lazy to find it.
Guess you’ve never heard of Blackberry Smoke, Marcus King, Devon Allman, Duane Betts, The Record Company. I grew up in the 70s and there are plenty of newer great bands.
indeed, the old days were groovy with less violence. Ca anyone imagine having another modern day Woodstock? Kids would wreck the fucking place, set shit ablaze, fights would break out, it would be a damned disaster.
I was there! Broke my foot, camped and partied for two nights before the concert..we literally had a train stop and the conductor partied with us…freakin incredible!
Outstanding comment. You guys were the last of the epic show crowds.
WHEN YOU HEAR THIS YOU REALIZE THAT TODAY'S MUSIC BLOWS
You need to start looking harder
Actually, when I hear today's music, I realize that today's music blows. It really REALLY does.
@@susanp.203 Where are you looking? I haven’t listened to the radio in 10 years
Look harder, don't be lazy.
Flavor of the year rappers, being shoved down kids throats for the last twenty years is cruel. Poor kids today.
Heart is unbelievable!!!! Rock n Roll Queens🤘🏻
I'm old enough to remember Fleetwood Mac featuring Bob Welch... Heck, I'm old enough to remember Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green!
Heck I'm just old!
RIP Peter Green
I was there too. From Anaheim.
We didn't have to travel as far as you. I sat behind my future wife.
We met 17 years later. I recognized her and her story.
Been married for 24 years!
Do you find it odd that Dave Mason also ended up in Fleetwood Mac in the 1990s?
@Richard B "Bob, how does it feel that the band you just left became the biggest band in the world?" What a tool chest, that interviewer.
RIP Bob Welch - underappreciated.
Didn't realize he passed. Definitely liked him
Yes , Bob was a great one! Sad ending for Bob, may he RIP
Yes he was. Ebony Eyes was a badass song and sadly, largely forgotten.
@@darrenc3357 ~ He shot himself.

Ann Wilson could shatter steel with her voice ....pure power..
No auto-tune, background dancer teams or multi million dollar laser light shows. Just great musicians holding that huge crowd captivated with their music.
The R O C K era I was 14 in '80. If we pick when we're born, THAT'S why. Pre-soy testosterone...even the chicks had it!
DON'T FORGET THE MULTIPLE CUSTOME/HAIRSTYLE AND MAKE-UP CHANGES DURING A PERFORMANCE BECAUSE THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TOO.
i was there ,yeah there was; a laser light show Frank Morino and Mahogany Rush used it and Blew it away with his Guitar Yeah !
Gee imagine that?
yeah but look at those wack ass cloths they wore. plus those long classic rock guitar solos make me want to barf.
Rock and Roll peaked in the 70s. I miss it.
Not even debatable.
I concur
Sad but True....
For some reason the 70's gets bad mouthed all the time. One thing I hate is saying that the 70's was about Disco. No way! 1970 to 74 was Rockin!! Then Disco got pushed on us. The 70's was the peak for music with the exception of Disco.
@@eddieboggs8306 I agree, Eddie! I'll go back a couple of years and say that the great rock stuff started about 1967, but agree that by 1974/75 or so, the creativity level started to go downhill...and along came disco, which really did suck. Glad we still have recordings from that "golden age" of rock to listen to. I'm 63, and still listen every single day!
Heart was really a great band, they had it all.
They STILL are! ♥️
Great band indeed!
I didn't know this back in the day, but thnx.2 RUclips, I noticed that now famous leg--kick by Nancy on Barracuda absolutely ROCKS, kids!! And Bob Welch, the dude KILLED it! He is , was? a great singer!🎯💯🤫
Good lord, Ann Wilson in her prime will ALWAYS be my ultimate rock & roll fantasy.
God, she had it all. Still does imho!! Prettier than even gorgeous Linda Rhonstat.
Stevie Nicks in her prime does it for me. Was fortunate enough to see a few months after this in '78. Great times 😊
Ann Wilson's vocals are insane!
Roger Fisher most underrated guitarist in history. Best years for Heart was with Roger.
There's some more recent RUclips featuring Roger Fisher. He's as good as ever. Yes, an innovator deserving of historical study.

Is that Howard Leese?

Stevie Nicks, Ann and Nancy Wilson ❤
And Christine McVie!

Ann and Lou showed how their vocals are so good live. Not so much for Ted's live shows.
The music that the *culture* of the 70’s & 80’s produced was absolutely magical….
Ann Wilson is an amazing singer!
Nugent was an absolute wild man. And Lou Gramms voice=amazing...
What a great festival. No stupid cell phones, no backing tracks or auto tune. Just balls out real music.

Heart was amazing! Their lead guitarist and bass player had wireless guitar packs - in 1978 those must have cost HUGE money
Yes, they certainly did! The best ones were about $3k at the time of I recall correctly.
Ann Wilson...what a set of pipes!!! And soooo damn gorgeous!!! She is a rock goddess.
Was in the navy rented a car wrecked it on the way up left it on the side of the rode, thumbed the rest of the way made it to the greatest concert I've ever seen thumbed to the bus station got the hound back to the base made it back in time for muster.damn to be young again
Me and my best friend Tom planted ourselves between the first big stacks of speakers, right up the middle. The guy sitting next to us was in the military and turned us on to something called "connabinol", the rest was rock and roll history. Some guy on LSD was running around naked through the crowd. I went to see Ted Nugent and Aerosmith- the rest was icing on the cake 👍

HEART, holy crap what an awesome rock band!
Ann and Nancy Wilson, such beautiful sirens. Intoxicating vocals and beauty.
I remember "magic man" in high school. So surreal and dreamy. Such passion, this song permeated my high school and my adult existence haunting me to this day.
Ann Wilson had an incredible range
And what a cutie too!
Still does.
They're awesome in concert, seen them in Cincinnati some time ago, loved it
Had? Still does.
she still has
God, Ann Wilson was absolutely smoking hot back then. I've been a Heart fan for a long time and watched her evolve over time. Of course, she had her struggles with her weight and all, but I look at her now and I like the way that she turned out. I mean she's still fiercely independent and intelligent with that powerful voice, but there's a wisdom and thoughtfulness there, a certain level of mature introspection. I get the sense that I could just sit and talk with her for hours and never get bored. I still find her physically attractive as well. We've all aged, right? Maybe a few more lines, a few more pounds around the middle. That's all pretty superficial though.
Weight doesn't make a person any less of a human worth believing in so why even mention it? Her sister was a major drug user but that didn't make her any less of a guitar player and part of the band
@@musicfanhawk4523 because she herself often talks about her struggles with her weight back in the 80s and how the record companies used to stigmatize her for it. I'm not being critical or judgemental, in fact, I'm defending her, and I'm certainly not talking about something she hasn't spoken about herself. I think you're one of those people who just go out looking for something that someone says so you can virtue signal. Like how dare I mention her weight. It's certainly not a taboo subject with her and it's valid in terms of how the music industry treated her.
Heart was so on point here!!
The 70s was the coolest...I say let's do it again

Very true
I so miss the late 60's & 70's !! the best music....
Yeah it was a good time
SANTANA is a drum orgy
And the chicks were goood looking...
this is the music that my mom grew up listening to in the 70's, i 1,000% agree this music is better than today's rock music
I agree for most lol but there still alot good modern music just its not popular like it was then . All the best band nowadays are playing clubs not shows like this
There is no "today's rock music". Rock is dead.
"Magic Man" is a piece that was waaaaayyyyy ahead of its time!
Why is this quality of music not being written today in 2021 and now 2022!?!? I don't get it!
@@michaelbutler275 I dont know either but what ive noticed is that bands nowadays cant write anything original. They all sound generic.
Heart were the obvious stars at this festival. amazing!
I remember when Aerosmith came on they turned up the volume 100%. The entire concert was a historic event.
Well at the time Aerosmith was CBSs best selling artist so they always played last
The 70' is by far the best decade.
Nah it’s the 80s bro it least when it comes to music. If we talking movies then yeah I’ll give you the 70s.

Dear Lord, how magnificent were Heart?
My first concert , I was 14 and had no idea what i was in for. Thank you so much for posting this piece of Rock History . I think my ticket was about 16 bucks . The first time i smelt the sweet leaf . Good memories and great music.
bill hansen - it was my second concert after earth, wind, and fire :-)
This was my first “real” concert too! We drove up from the Navy base the night before. I remember walking several hours trying to get a better spot, finally had to stop when people were too crowded. We ended up behind 2nd set of speaker towers on left. What amazes me is not that it took 2&1/2 hours to use the portipotty but that somehow I managed to find my way back! Lol
lol me too!
My 2nd after Schools Out at Anaheim Stadium 1977. Alice/ Kinks/ Tubes/ Nazareth
Also my first concert, and I was 14 as well.
A different world back then. How I miss it, yet grateful to have experienced those cool groovy times times.
The good old days of rock n roll so many great bands in the 70s best decade of music in history
I totally agree I went to more concerts in the 70’s them any other decade
None of the bands on this bill were ANY good. B-list pretenders.
It's too bad this concert is lesser known than Woodstock. It's way better. Woodstock probably would have been fun to see Hendrix and other bands I like. But was just too full of dirty hippies.
@@Supertzar999 Woodstock was NOT about the bands(but to say this was better is a joke in itself), it was about the EXPERIENCE, and the times. How do people still not get it?
@@JD-nq4vb I think you mean all the acid tripping, right? Probably wouldn't be about the bands.
HEART IS SO AMAZING!
Nancy had to break out from that, "I'm a girl so I play acoustic guitar" archetype.
Ann and Nancy are adorable!
I was there. I came from Phoenix with three friends. Two women and another guy. As we drove over there one of the women, Jeannie, dropped some acid without telling us. She got pretty wacked out. When we got out of the car, she ran off into the crowd. We did not see her for the rest of the concert.
When we got there it was about 3 am. I-10 was a parking lot. The entire freeway was turned into tailgate parties with everyone out of their cars and passing joints and such. The CA Highway Patrol contacted the organizers and ordered them to get down there and open the gates and stand back.
They didn't even take tickets. They just wanted to clear the interstate. They sold something like 267,000 tickets, but the sheriff's estimate from the air was 500,000. The movie says 250,000, but I think that was before they had the sheriff's estimate.
I saw people walking around yelling "Ludes for sale!" Or "Acid for sale!" you could find about anything you wanted. I just smoked weed.
When it was over we still had not found Jeannie. No cells back then. So I drove to the main entrance. I drove the car onto the concrete apron in the entrance way and parked it so people would have to go around it to exit. I was hoping Jeannie would see us. Then we went to sleep while waiting.
No luck. It was a shot in the dark anyway. So we went back to Phoenix, hoping Jeannie was ok. Once back I got a call from Jeannie. She was in a truck stop in Indio, CA. A trucker got her that far. So we knew she was OK, but stranded. So I got in my car and drove about 250 miles to get her.
It was a great time. It's hard to believe it was 41 years ago now.
Great story man!
i was there. a lot of AD going around. it was a zoo.
Thats a fantastic memory especially since she was okay. Thanks for sharing.

Heart killed it!
Good to hear Bob Welch again, especially performing "Ebony Eyes". I had this album when I was a young teen and had sort of forgotten how good it was over the decades.
When Bob Welch took off his guitar and started to dance all I could think was “Napoleon Dynamite”.
Wow! The recording of Heart is really excellent!!
Holy shit!!! The talent contained in just the toe nail clippings of any 2 artists here would rival 90 percent of the industry nowadays!!!!
There aren’t any musicians today just artist LOL..
That Heart set was excellent.
As raw as this is, compared to all the "Hi Fi effects" that are used in today's performances- it is still better than what we are given today. The people were nicer too!!

I was there ...got a ride there from San Diego , lost them there and ended up hitchhiking back...great show ! I will never forget it
Yawn
Heart was certainly magnificent weren't they?
So beautiful
Always thought Derek St Holmes had one of the greatest rock voices in the business. Him and Ted were a great pairing in those days
No doubt Derek Saint Holmes rock hard with the Nuge . But I like them just as well and maybe even better when you got with MSG !
I agree. This was Ted's best line up.
@@scottduyser1222 lets face it. Ted is a GREAT guitar player. Singer not so much. DSH as the vocalist was the top of Teds sucess!!!
Derek wanted more control of the music, and alpha male Ted said no way.
How in the He'll is uncle Ted not in the Rock Hall..
Used to own Cal Jam II on vinyl. First time checking the visual with the audio. I have always felt Heart sounded the best this day. With Frank Marino Mahogany Rush the Santana.
I picked up the Cal Jam 2 CD off Amazon recently. Not sure why, but Foreigner was left off the CD. 😢
GD Heart was phenomenal in its prime. Spectacular.
Kurt S unreal.
Stevie Nicks is gorgeous here!
Then we see that dirt bag Mick Fleetwood. What a piece of garbage.
yeah and full on coke...
@@andrewowens-russell6796 why do you think that?
She was gorgeous for sure!
@@JerryRiceBall the only thing she blew was her cue to come in on time
The Wilson sisters are still just as great and as beautiful as they ever were.
AWESOME! Thank you for this! Heart! Damn! Sounding so good! I wish more of the Aerosmith footage was available, they were so much more functional on this than Texxas Jam 78! Love this entire footage. Thank you for having this available!!!🤘🍻
I remember watching this on ABC on a Saturday night. Memories. Thanks for sharing.
Ann Wilson kinda looks like Lucy Lawless. What a show!! Frank Marino does deserve more than one goddamn song. Dude burns!!
I saw heart that aug 77 in the cape cod coliseum. this is the best video i've found. now I know my memories are correct. they were amazing!
I remember watching this on TV !!! And this is the first time I've seen it since ! Thank you for posting ! I've gotta message my brother and tell him to look this up ! This brings back so many good memories ! I was 12 years old .

1970's young women kept the oil in their skin and their hair. Natural turn on.
