I met James in Dublin Airport the morning before this gig, I was returning home from the states on holidays and was just picking my baggage up from the carousel and there was james just casually sitting on the bench beside me! Crazy, I had a chat with him but he refused a photo, which is understandable as he was just off an 11 hour flight and was groggy! Was so surreal seeing him standing on that stage the next day in front of 80,000 people!
Well my story isn't as happy but my sister manages a restaurant in Dublin city centre, Robert was eating there for 3 days in a row and the last day all 3 Robert, Lars and Kirk came... My sister and most people had no idea who they were. I've been to Slane, that was my second time seeing Metallica live, really amazing and memorable experience. So my sister found out 2 days after the concert from someone at work who it was and told me about it. Imagine.

I remember back in 2009 where I was on the floor (at the front, naturally, as a long time club member - since January 1995 though I sent the cheque in at the end of 1994) next to me there was a father with two or three kids. One was a five year old. James at the end of the gig had one of the workers (or maybe it was a guard) give the five year old a pick (I caught two or three). Even as someone who has never liked kids (and that is probably an understatement) it was a beautiful, beautiful sight.

@@rosiewhitfield123 James did it a few years ago in Paris, too. During "Ride the Lightning" he forgot the words, and called it out in the middle of the song. Lars also forgot the drum part in "Leper Messiah" as well. I don't know why, but I'm almost glad to hear the odd mistake or 2. Let's you know the band is still real, and still performing, themselves, instead of relying on lip syncing and auto-tune...
I was first struck by the METALLICA train when i was 9 (1988) been my #1 ride or die since that day.Dammit, I’m so proud of this band with all they have done and continue to do. They definitely still have that fire that alot of bands seem to loose along the way. THANK YOU METALLICA 🤩😎
I watch some of these festivals on TV and it blows my mind how young bands are spent after two to three songs and and bands from the 70- mid 90s will blow these young kids out of the water with energy and excitement. I think the the older guys feel and appreciate it more. Can't last forever!
Far out this band is just frickin awesome. I've been a Metallica fan since I was 10 years old. I'm 43 and still love them as much as I did when I was a little tucker. Every band member gives it 150% for the full show. Inspirational and a great distraction from boring ole Covid

This band has become or just is a piece of art. James Hetfields voice, performance.....everything! On the point. These guys .... just amazing. Their experience. Big respect!
Man...this band...they just keep delivering. I've seen them in the US about 30 times over the years, and was fortunate to see them in Europe in 2018 for 8 shows. My friend works for Kirk & he hooked us up. It was there I got to experience first hand the energy of the European audiences i had only seen on video & read about in magazines like Karrang 35-40 years ago. Their passion for this music blew me away as much as the band did. I don't speak Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, or German, and it was my first time being in countries where I did not speak the native language. But at those shows, I felt as though we were all one, the music gave the audience this incredible sense of community that as Americans, we don't really think about at shows in the US. Any Metallica fan in America, if you can make it to one show out in Europe, it will be a mind blowing experience. Every time I see recent footage of them, playing for audiences of tens of thousands people all over the world, I can't help but think this is the same band that I saw at 16 years old in 1983, in a club with 50 people. Kill Em All had just come out and it was something like Kirk's 5th live show with the band. Didn't know what to make of them, they were a bit on the heavy side for my taste at the time, but they were super tight, that much I remember. A year later I saw them open for WASP at L'Amour in Brooklyn NY, around Ride The Lightning coming out, they played Creeping Death, and the crowd of about 1000 people with long hair & leather jackets (including my friends & I) just went ballistic. I bought both albums the next day & have been a fan ever since. To this day Master of Puppets is one of my favorite albums of all time, got to see them twice on that tour opening for Ozzy, then sadly Cliff was tragically killed in the bus accident. The Black album, & others subsequently, adulthood kicked in, my interest waned, had college to finish, a career to build, moved across the country to Los Angeles, but always went to see them live. This last album, Hardwired, to me is the best material they have put out out since Master of Puppets, it's reminds me of classic Metallica. If it were vinyl like in the old days, it would have been worn it out by now. I have heard people my age (who have families, not in the best of health, did not choose good careers or make good financial decisions, etc) say to me "ah metal died 30 years ago". Then I send them links of videos like this, and their reaction is holy sh*t!! I tell them get off your a** and come to a show already! Metal is very much alive & will continue to be & we have to thank the younger generation of fans all over the world for keeping it going. At 53, still have a full head of long dark hair (got lucky on that), down to the middle of my back, still fit into my leather jacket & jeans from when I was 16. My parents were always like "oh he's just going through a phase". Yeh, right...this is who I am and who I always will be. My father: 'You'll never get a decent job with all that hair!!!!" Proved him wrong, many times over. Metal is our classic rock, it's the story of our lives & its so cool going to shows & seeing all these younger kids loving this music, and on you tube playing drums, bass & guitar better than I could now! Anyway, just wanted to share my Metallica experience. You all stay safe out there & rock on! \m/
.... Just going through a phase. Still have and play my guitar I bought in 1994 because of Metallica!!! It's not a phase at all, I'll back you up on that!!
Brilliant. Absolutely loved reading this. I'm a huge fan, seen them 16 times all over Europe. I'm from Ireland. Won a meet and greet back in 2012. This Slane gig was phenomenal. And no, it's not a fucking phase!! Those who get it. Absolutely get it. Great read man 👏🏻
I'd agree with your statement but actually say they have improved with age - a phenominal band who are aging like a fine wine - with a Jagerbomb thrown into it :)
Was there it was unreal 80000 + the sound class stage class the crowd were insane a gig I will never forget 🤘🤘🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🤘🤘 don't forget to call again METALLICA always welcome in IRELAND 🇮🇪
This is the most beautiful concert I have ever seen on line!! And I'm sure my older brother would have enjoyed thiis! Unfortunately he passed away from brain cancer in 2018... He was only 50! Now I am 49 and am reliving our memories! He introduced me to Metallica Black!!! Best album of the century!! I really miss my brother! I hope your band is anti-violence!
My brother Rodger Gainey worked for ARCO and Intalco crude oil companies for all of his adult life trying to support his wife and 2 steppchildren and his own son. He was the most caring man gave his heart and soul and his shirt off his back to anyone needing help! Metallica was our connection.... :D
@Rachael B. These guys play loud enough that I'm sure he can hear them, and yes, they are definitely anti violence.. they have a foundation called All Within My Hands that focuses on humanitarian aid, right now Ukraine, but normally just helping people in general.50 is too young, but it sounds like he made good of the time he was here instead of wasting it like so many people do.

Haven't listened to Metallica live in quite a few years, or at all really. This came on randomly and I have to say this is sounding as amazing as I remember them back in the day. Despite their age, they can still kill it.
he's a human being at the end of the day, every human being has good days and bad days, it happens, plus he's been destroying his throat like this since 1980
I remember when I was on my first Metallica concert. It was 18.August 2019 in Prague, Letňany airport. It was totally perfect. Long time I had a dream that one day I will see Metallica live. And my dream came true yeah. I cant wait on age after covid 19 pandemy. Hope that Metallica family will be STRONGER AND LOUDER ! ! ! But its SAD BUT TRUE that covid pandemy is still here. But one day coronavirus pandemy end and after pandemy we will see our heroes live !!! Europe is missing you Metallica !!!
YESSS!!! Very much so!! Ive seen the tallicaboys 5 times now. My first was in 1994 with suicidal tendencies and candlebox was supposed to be alice in chains but they couldnt make it candlebox was replacement. It was outside in the summer and at a racetrack freaking killer!!!
I don't care what they play, how they play, what changes they've made over the years....we are lucky to have witnessed one of the best talents of all times. Thank you Metallica, for the music, the memories, the shows....I have zero chance of ever to know you in person, but I am grateful you made music to help so many of us get thought some tough sh1t in our lives. Rock on, and nothing but the best from this fan here! \m/
i know people makin pics with celebs u can't imagine with very low effort. IF meeting Metallica is your dream you can fulfill it. You're not climbing the mount everest. This is a realistic target. Just hang on and do it. You'll get the moment when it's there
When I fırst met them I was a child, and they were young men trashing all around. Now both of us are old, but they're still trashing all around.... LONG LIVE METALLICA...
I sure hope that people realize that Metallica has surpassed every band in the history of music. No kidding, this band is the best that has ever to take the stage.
This lockdown has reignited my love for Metallica. Great job whoever is in charge of their RUclips account. Absolutley top notch content. Dying to see them live again.
Looking forward to seeing them in Dallas, TX (August 2023) with my daughter. Our first Metallica concert was in Dallas when she was in middle school. She is now 35 years old. This is a mother-daughter thing. Hope to keep going. Loved reading all the comments. Thank you Metallica family.
I love how appreciative James is with fans during all the concert, constantly saying how grateful and lucky he is for their support and for having them. It almost feels heartbreaking.
METALLICA my favorite Band since I was a little Girl. I have been fortunate to see them live, and the most impressed fact that you will notice in their concerts is... QUALITY (Besides their great Music) is the QUALITY of the Audio at their shows... Best band ever. THANK YOU METALLICA FOR ALL THESE YEARS!, and YES WE are a FAMILY!!
Damn! These guys really haven't lost a step. I closed my eyes during "Trapped under ice" and was transported back in time to when this music was new and fresh and mind-blowing. Cheers gentlemen! Job well done and, stay safe
Really?? In that case welcome along to a Metallifriend! Fan for 25 years and saw them live for the first time 20 years ago, to this day they've lost nothing of how they make the crowd feel, good choice that man, and good real life name too ;-)
We have been through so much negative shit lately..seeing these most amazing guy's has made me smile. I truly love Metallica. I'm 46 years old and have followed, listen to these men. Amongst men. True. Hard core MEN. This generation now...I am sad.
What makes you sad about this generation? I'm almost 32...I get a lot of shit in this world is fucked up right now...but I honestly see it as a symptom of people in general. Sure many things are related to younger people...but I feel people in general of all ages have just lost it in many ways and a lot of us just lack common sense any more. It is sad regardless.
Metallica has really reinvented themselves, whoever is running the online media presence during the lockdown is doing a fantastic job. I've had non stop Metallica to listen to, great concerts... it's MetLife over here. \m/ Keep it up everyone.
I love how James' trying to maintain his voice through the years. There may be slight but that's normal when years pass by. Cheers, Metallica. You've been a part of my teen days.
This makes me sad. Not because it's bad, but because I wish Metallica would never have to get old. These 4 humans should be able to stay 28 years old forever haha
Yeah mate. Just realised, that as a young fella myself, in 20 or 30 years time when I’m getting drunk by myself listening to this stuff - they may not be playing anymore. And I may feel quite alone. What a bugger getting old. But, no matter what, the good times, and the, memory, will remain.
Not to me. But replace 'hot' with 'old' and it works. Yet he's not actually THAT old...The same can be said for the rest of them. I was appalled when I saw the videos (this past tour was the first one I missed and I regret it so much but they didn't play as many shows and I had other things going on, the good and the bad and the ugly, to make the obvious pun).
Que banda por dios!!! Estos tipos todavia tiene la misma energia de cuando eran adolescentes. Vi bandas degradarse con el paso de los años pero esta banda esta cada vez mejor en vivo. Larga vida a Metallica!!!
i’m 14 years old in 2023 and i don’t think i’ve met one kid now days that listens to this kind of music, i can sing all of these songs by heart. (i’m a girl btw!!!)

Far out this band is just frickin awesome. I've been a Metallica fan since I was 10 years old. I'm 43 and still love them as much as I did when I was a little tucker.
Every band member gives it 150% for the full show. Inspirational and a great distraction from boring ole Covid
Hey, metal won't die.
The part that James said "Hello darkness say goodbye" on Halo On Fire gives me goosebumps...
This songs have and will remain my best 💖. It only gets better with time.

you should attend a rock n roll concert in Brazil to check out how we react as well. I mean, after this pandemic is over
.... Just going through a phase.
Still have and play my guitar I bought in 1994 because of Metallica!!! It's not a phase at all, I'll back you up on that!!
I can't believe that i've read the whole comment..Lol.
Brilliant. Absolutely loved reading this. I'm a huge fan, seen them 16 times all over Europe. I'm from Ireland. Won a meet and greet back in 2012. This Slane gig was phenomenal.
And no, it's not a fucking phase!! Those who get it. Absolutely get it. Great read man 👏🏻
Awesome..
I love Metallica simply for their music but I am also amazed that after 42 years they still have the same energy... an absolutely incredible band X
42 years? Can't believe it's been that long. The only thing that's changed is Hatfield's voice.
Absolute I LOVE TIS YUM YUM YUM.......................
I'd agree with your statement but actually say they have improved with age - a phenominal band who are aging like a fine wine - with a Jagerbomb thrown into it :)

Same here I'll sail ⛵ thousand miles from Tongatapu Island 🏝 to watch Metallica 😊

I Agree
I remember a show back in 2018
i Don't remember the name but ,in ONE they conpletely forgot half of Kirks solo (tapping)
That Was epic
Kirk finished the solo at the end of the song
They were looking on each others like. thet were on the early shows

Haven't listened to Metallica live in quite a few years, or at all really. This came on randomly and I have to say this is sounding as amazing as I remember them back in the day. Despite their age, they can still kill it.
They will live on long after death!!!!!!!!!

I was at this concert and it was awesome 🤘
Robert is playing some of the most badass basses at this show. That green Ric is off the hook....
The Jazz he used on Bells looks like it was recovered from a house fire lol
I don't care what they play, how they play, what changes they've made over the years....we are lucky to have witnessed one of the best talents of all times. Thank you Metallica, for the music, the memories, the shows....I have zero chance of ever to know you in person, but I am grateful you made music to help so many of us get thought some tough sh1t in our lives. Whiskey in the Jar, in Irish soil, with a green bass and Gary Moore's Les Paul and the crowd singing their lungs out... That was just legendary
I think that was Peter Green's LP, I could be wrong, but the neck pickup is flipped like Green's axe.
@@woodstocktradingcompany9581 I believe you're correct. Gary bought it off of Green for something like $1.5 million USD.

We have been through so much negative shit lately..seeing these most amazing guy's has made me smile. I truly love Metallica. I'm 46 years old and have followed, listen to these men. Amongst men. True. Hard core MEN.
This generation now...I am sad.
I am 43... And still listening to MetallicA and enjoying them
What makes you sad about this generation? I'm almost 32...I get a lot of shit in this world is fucked up right now...but I honestly see it as a symptom of people in general. Sure many things are related to younger people...but I feel people in general of all ages have just lost it in many ways and a lot of us just lack common sense any more. It is sad regardless.
