I am so proud of my generation showing new generations what good music sounded like and their "incredible talented singers that made the entire band sound good plus the instrumental musicians were amazing.
I agree about the 75 performance. But. What I appreciate about this is that they were still young, figuring it out, and there is a neophyte innocence of this performance, almost more raw than the 75. By then they had learned how to be very professional. I appreciate the "freshness" of the 69 performance
I saw them live along with the Grass Roots. Both bands were great. Now, I feel that I was so spoiled with all the great music there was when I was young.😊
And songs like this are why those of us who grew up in the '60s & '70s absolutely barf at the so-called "music" of the past 30 years. Mostly NO TALENT NOISE & TRASH, Autotune, and yet they THINK they can choose presidents for us!
I was 21. Seven rows from the stage. They left the stage without doing Celebrate. (You really need to hear that! They came back on stage, house lights went up, people were standing in the arms of the seats!! It was amazing! Never forget it. Oh, I'm 73, so yeah it was in their heyday.
One of the greatest groups ever. Cory Welles(flowered shirt), Chuck Negron and Danny Hutton. Danny did a great job on lead with Black & White. Cory did a phenomenal job covering Otis Reddings Try a Little Tenderness. Chuck with Joy to the World, Easy to be Hard and others. Danny did a few. Them CCR. Credence and The Rascals are my favorite groups ever I'm listening to music over 60 years. Keep up the good work!
they all had leads but I think they also had fun as in this video where they are obviously mouthing to the recording and not even leaning into the mikes at times. I loved how they played off each other more than the BeeGees who started off with all 3 leading songs but melted into Barry taking the load later on.
Just now watching this This was written by Laura Nyro, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame She also wrote Stoney End, which was a hit for Barbara Streisand and Stoned Soul Picnic, a hit for the 5th Dimension Check those out👍🏼
Love when the you get generations hear these great songs and appreciate them! My two teen boys hear it and I get so much joy when they start moving their heads to it!❤️👊🏽
There's a great story about them getting together in California, even though Danny is from England, Chuck is from Brooklyn, and Cory was from Buffalo, NY. It's online.
Their "actual" live stuff (not lip synced which they kind of made fun of here) is pure magic. Whatever they did in the studio was so much better live, if you can even believe it. It's out there...find this in a truly live performance and it will blow you away. Thanks for your props to this amazing group!
First thank you for the memories 🥰 Second back in my day there was NO nasty trash talk, vulgar dance moves or scandalous clothing, it was simple real raw talent or nothing 😍. NO additives needed 😏...
Danny, the guy in white, formed the band. Chuck and Cory were so good that he ended up not having as many lead vocals. Danny sings lead on Black and White, which is a good song. Chuck left the band because he was a drug addict. Cory died a few years ago. Danny continued the band with Cory and him sharing the vocals. I'm not sure what they are doing now. The drummer Floyd Sneed recently died. Overall, they had three great singers and a tight band doing good songs with great arrangements and had multiple hits. Probably one of the top bands during the seventies.
I was 14 or 15 when I saw them live and got all their autographs! Always a great show! Cory Wells, the middle singer does the lead on "Try A Little Tenderness" of Otis Redding fame that is a must see too! Between 3 Dog Night and Joe Cocker, they ruled doing covers!
They started out as "Redwood", under the auspices of Brian Wilson. They were early exponents of Laura Nyro, Randy Newman, and a bloke from England named Reg Dwight--better known as Elton John.
I was in like, 1st grade or so for this but my big sister had 3 Dog Night's albums & even then I knew they were great! I know this is from a while ago but I hope you guys eventually hear "Mama Told Me Not To Come, " I think you'll really get into it lol!
Yesterday on RUclips, Eric Clapton announced the passing of the great John Mayall. Please react to one of my fav songs from John Mayall and the bluesbreakers, Spinning Coin. One cool song from one very cool dude. May he RIP ❤
In 1967, Hutton (stripped pants, he's the only original singer left in the group)conceived the idea of a three-vocalist group, and he and Wells (Paisley shirt he passed away) enlisted mutual friend Negron (dark shirt left officially 1985). They took their name from an Australian expression describing low nocturnal temperatures in the outback (the colder the night, the more dogs needed to keep warm while sleeping). They took turns taking lead depending on the song. I saw 3 Dog Night a few months ago. Check out Try A Little Tenderness early version
They started out as "Redwood", under the auspices of Brian Wilson. They were early exponents of Laura Nyro, Randy Newman, and a bloke from England named Reg Dwight--better known as Elton John.
Thee best group ever! FIRE 🔥 CORY WELLS and Chuck Negron have the best voices you'll find. So distintive! If you take a poll of whos the best keyboard/organist, you'll get mostly Jimmy Greenspoon of Three Dog Night. The man was unstoppable! The rest of the band...amazing. Floyd Sneed...drummer, thee best, Joe Schermie's bass walks are immortal, Micheal Allsup on guitar one of the best!
this is the studio track lip synth-ed on a TV show...you can see them goofing off and the badn in the back round missing cues..but as a young teen I saw them live and it was awesome
Keyboardist was Jimmy Greenspoon. Drummer was Floyd Sneed. Guitarist--Michael Allsup, and the bassist at the time was Joe Schermie. This sounds like the studio version.
These guys were awesome live back in the day. I saw the "Show Must Go On " tour. I think this is "canned" music though....just how they did it back then.
Had home stereo and 8 track /then cassette tapes in almost every car I owned after I got out of the army in 71 , always had 3DN in the car and LP's at home , these bands sound awesome coming out of JBL century 100 speakers ....
You MUST LISTEN to 3 dog night do Eli’s Coming live version! Also the following songs: easy To Be Hard, Try A little tenderness and Mama told me not to come. ❤❤
Better walk right But he's never gonna hear No, he's never gonna hear, and he ain't gonna follow Down at the corners of the square And everywhere I go, whoa
My grandson is named Eli James... James for James Taylor But I've played it sang this song to him since he was little. He's 14 now, and believe it or not, I dang it to him yesterday... okay, not the whole song but...
Look below Wolf HunterZ. This is powerful stuff and my favorite Three Dog Night song. They weren't good they were great. I was a teenager when they were in their prime, Corey, born in Buffalo, N.Y., passed away a few year's ago. They can sing so well because of the era they lived in. No dubbing or multiple takes. Real live musicians. Buy their Greatest Hits album. Twenty one songs-19 of them Top 10 hits! All three sang lead at some time for Eli's Coming. In those days they were called "garage bands."
You guys need to listen to the great Laura Nyro (NEAR-o), who wrote this and a number of other major hits of the era. Her original versions are wonderful and very unique.
Three Dog Night was put together as Band for a TV show... The show went nowhere. But the band stayed together, they knew a good thing when they saw it!
You should have seen them a little later on in their career, where, when Corey Wells does the lead, he does it like a preacher, really getting into it. I mean to say, his moved improved a TON ... he makes you BELIEVE it !!!
This is a great version .. But it pales in comparison to the 75 live version.. 75 live showcases the vocals of all singers with this cover of the Laura Nero song ..
If you give yourself to Eli, you will regret it. Laura is furious for doing so in "Stoney End": I was born from love And I was raised on golden rules Till the love of a winsome Johnny Taught me love was meant for fools... (her first single, with the softened lyrics)
So many great singles. From left to right Chuck Negron, Cory Wells and Danny Hutton were great together. Sadly Chuck's battle with drugs was their downfall. Put them in the R&R HOF PLEASE!!!
Rick Nelson did have great hair too. Especially @ 1969. He was growing it out, getting with The Stone Canyon Band, kinda making a come back himself. Becoming more relevant. Both handsome guys. But Elvis is ..... Elvis!
There is a longer version with a wonderful, longer, almost mystical introduction by singer Cory Welles LIVE in front of an audience. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
They find each other because everything was pure talent back then. There was no technology, so it was only gifted musicians on albums.
Looking back, we were so lucky to be listening to the radio back then. But we really didn't know, it was just good song after good song.....
I am so proud of my generation showing new generations what good music sounded like and their "incredible talented singers that made the entire band sound good plus the instrumental musicians were amazing.
As a kid around 1970 Three Dog Night was IT!!!
Golden Biscuits.
You missed out. The long intro extended version 1975 made this performance look cheap. Eli's still coming check it out.
I agree about the 75 performance. But. What I appreciate about this is that they were still young, figuring it out, and there is a neophyte innocence of this performance, almost more raw than the 75. By then they had learned how to be very professional. I appreciate the "freshness" of the 69 performance
@@johnmcfarlan3672 God bless them the old gents are still performing.
Thank you sweetie 😘
Because you HAD to have talent to get contracts from the industry. Thats why 60's 70's 80's talent was awesome. No computers to make them sound good.
I saw them live along with the Grass Roots. Both bands were great. Now, I feel that I was so spoiled with all the great music there was when I was young.😊
When talented singers stood up on stage and sang with passion and force. Not the crap we see today.
3 tasty vocalists in one band? It's the 70s! That's why. Talent abounded.
Ah yes. But birthed in the 60’s. I heard in ‘69 in college. When I saw the album I thought….wow! The drummer sure can sing!!!
And songs like this are why those of us who grew up in the '60s & '70s absolutely barf at the so-called "music" of the past 30 years. Mostly NO TALENT NOISE & TRASH, Autotune, and yet they THINK they can choose presidents for us!
You said a mouthful!
Thank you sweetie 😘
I was 21. Seven rows from the stage.
They left the stage without doing Celebrate. (You really need to hear that!

I wanted to post Try a little Tenderness but you I will be roasted by the peanut gallery.... Otis Redding is better and so on
they all had leads but I think they also had fun as in this video where they are obviously mouthing to the recording and not even leaning into the mikes at times. I loved how they played off each other more than the BeeGees who started off with all 3 leading songs but melted into Barry taking the load later on.
Thanks for remembering the Rascals. ❤️
The great Laura Nyro wrote it; her original is on her second album. Eli is every bad guy who needs to be avoided by every good woman.
You said a word.
A cover of a Laura Nyro song. You guys would love her.
Just now watching this
This was written by Laura Nyro, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
She also wrote Stoney End, which was a hit for Barbara Streisand and Stoned Soul Picnic, a hit for the 5th Dimension
Check those out👍🏼
Obviously this is the studio recording we are hearing, but there is another video out there from 1975 where they perform live and sound just as good.
These guys had a bunch of Top Ten hits plus 3 #1 songs from 1969 to 1975. ❤❤
Love when the you get generations hear these great songs and appreciate them! My two teen boys hear it and I get so much joy when they start moving their heads to it!❤️👊🏽

It's the church of rock and roll ❤️❤️❤️
The third guy, Chuck Negron, carried all of the high notes theougj that song. They are all amazing!!!
One of the BEST cover bands ever.
Harmony was one of the first albums I bought while in elementary school. I think I still have it.
Three lead singers which was unheard of back then. They out-sold the Beatles during a four year period back then.
loved it! it was not an original! the great Laura Nyro wrote this and sang it first! i have all her albums!
Soundstage 1975! Amazing!
First thank you for the memories 🥰
Second back in my day there was NO nasty trash talk, vulgar dance moves or scandalous clothing, it was simple real raw talent or nothing 😍. NO additives needed 😏...
I saw these guys at a lakeside venue a couple of summers ago. Perfect day. Sunshine and great music. I forgot so many of the songs were theirs.
Old fashioned love song (live 1975) is fun to watch
Goin' down to Stoney End, I never wanted to go down to Stoney End
Mama can I start all over
Cradle me, mama cradle me again
Danny, the guy in white, formed the band. Chuck and Cory were so good that he ended up not having as many lead vocals. Danny sings lead on Black and White, which is a good song. Cory's version follows Otis's very closely.
They used to sell out pine knob back in the day in Detroit. You would have had to experience the music back then. It was incredible.
"Old Fashioned Love Song", "Black and White", "Shambala", "One", etc...! Great band, we were so spoiled in the 70's.
I saw them live in 1972 and it was an awesome, awesome show.
Went to a Three Dog Night concert waaay back in the 70s and Aerosmith was the opening act-awesome music that night!!
And they look like they're having so much fun!!
"Pieces of April" - completely different feel, a beautiful song. Put this one on your TDN list. Thanks for another great reaction that took me back! ❤
I saw Three Dog Night twice in concert. They sounded better in person than on record. Great band!!!
If you like this 1969 version, you will love the 1975 version even more. I’m 78 years old and ELI’S COMING is my favorite song of all time.
you MUST check out a live version of this with an orchestra behind them from the 1990s PLEASE
Yesterday on RUclips, Eric Clapton announced the passing of the great John Mayall.

@@steelers6titles Thanks for the info! Never got to their show. Damn. Ole guy. seventy something.
My favorite group even to this day. I fell in love with them in the early '70's.
"three dog night" - a night in Australia so cold you need three dogs in your sleeping bag.
I had this on 8-Track, "Golden Biscuits", We played that to death!
I had Golden Biscuits on cassette. Think it's still around somewhere.
the boy in the white shirt is danny hutton, his big songs were lier and black and white
The third guy is Chuck Negron who is featured in the song "The Show Must Go On"
Chuck Negron probably pushing 80 still kicking ass on the(Happy Together) tour recently
between 1968 and 1975 they sold more records and had more number one hits and top 20's than anyone else on the planet.
Long, long time ago, in the early '70s, the first album I bought with my babysitting money was a 3 Dog Night Album....
Thee best group ever! FIRE 🔥 CORY WELLS and Chuck Negron have the best voices you'll find. So distintive!

If you can find the book One is the loneliest number, read it , it’s all about Three Dog Night and how they got together
Chuck Negron’s book, Three Dog Nightmare, is a harrowing story of drug addiction. But he came through it.
These guys were awesome live back in the day. I saw the "Show Must Go On " tour. I think this is "canned" music though....just how they did it back then.
SAW THESE GUYS IN SANTA BARBARA IN '69!!!THEY WERE AWESOME!!!
Had home stereo and 8 track /then cassette tapes in almost every car I owned after I got out of the army in 71 , always had 3DN in the car and LP's at home , these bands sound awesome coming out of JBL century 100 speakers ....
My favorite song when I was a 9 year old kid!
You MUST LISTEN to 3 dog night do Eli’s Coming live version! Also the following songs: easy To Be Hard, Try A little tenderness and Mama told me not to come. ❤❤
Guys---3 Dog Night as a name means the night was so cold you need to cuddle up to 3 Dogs(and I mean the animal!) to stay warm and not freeze.
Check out the 1974 live version, it is totally different from this version.
This is live and it sounds so close to the studio recording that I looked to see if they're lip synching, Doesn't look like it
My second favorite band of all!
Such talent from the boomer gen.
Better walk right
But he's never gonna hear
No, he's never gonna hear, and he ain't gonna follow
Down at the corners of the square
And everywhere I go, whoa
Some suggestion from an old man.Celebrate,One,Chest Fever, and their best song. One !!!
My grandson is named Eli James... James for James Taylor

Laura herself remains the best exponent of her own material.
Back in the day the trades used to advertise for band members, actors etc. No idea if it's that organized anymore.
Three Dog Night was put together as Band for a TV show... The show went nowhere. But the band stayed together, they knew a good thing when they saw it!
Sometimes lost with the focus on the 3 singers is a band of 4 musicians that could tear it up!
Three Dog Night is a reference to a cold night where you slept with your dogs to keep warm
the warning girls were born into it, 3 great singers in one band
You should have seen them a little later on in their career, where, when Corey Wells does the lead, he does it like a preacher, really getting into it. I mean to say, his moved improved a TON ... he makes you BELIEVE it !!!
Only group I know of with 3 Bonafide lead singers.
I'd like to meet this Eli!
The sang together in chorus in high school.
Un huh,Mic drop.😎🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸.
This is a great version .. But it pales in comparison to the 75 live version.. 75 live showcases the vocals of all singers with this cover of the Laura Nero song ..
Yeah that definitely a "Dang" number!
If you want them at their best...get the TV special of 1975. At their peak!
At one time, they were bigger than the Beatles and have nu drops tunes on the Billboard 100.
Yup... when the Beatles disbanded in 1970 and went their separate ways, Three Dog Night certainly became one of the very top groups.
Mama Told Me Not to Come is a must
You should listen to this song when they have fun with it - AMAZING.
You need to listen to One!!!!
Depending on the song they varied as to who sang lead. Some songs would have all switching back and forth. They could all sing and never a bad vocal.
If you give yourself to Eli, you will regret it. Laura is furious for doing so in "Stoney End":
I was born from love
And I was raised on golden rules
Till the love of a winsome Johnny

So many great singles. From left to right Chuck Negron, Cory Wells and Danny Hutton were great together. Sadly Chuck's battle with drugs was their downfall. Put them in the R&R HOF PLEASE!!!
This was the original recorded version there is a slower more drawn out version that is equally good........
My Uncle had a pair of those striped pants 😅 great band.
Three part harmony ... like in 'Old Fashioned Love Song'.
Rick Nelson did have great hair too. Especially @ 1969. He was growing it out, getting with The Stone Canyon Band, kinda making a come back himself. Becoming more relevant. Both handsome guys. But Elvis is ..... Elvis!
unique band !
You ought to read the book “Three Dog Nightmare” by Chuck Negron……will blow your mind. ✌🏻🇺🇸
The cover is Chuck's mug shot, with his nose split open. But he fought drug addiction, successfully.
There is a longer version with a wonderful, longer, almost mystical introduction by singer Cory Welles LIVE in front of an audience. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Once again, seen 'em live. Cory Wells is gone. I don't know if Danny Hutton and Chuck Negron got back together; Negron had a solo career going.
