    I can’t wait to try this. Watched it enough to see if I could follow it (yes!) and now going to save it in my “watch later” folder when I can actually make a basket! What a perfect alternative to a box for gifting someone a hand made object. ❤

    I would like to Thankyou for making such relaxing podcasts. Im mainly a knitter and sewer but also love to crochet sometimes. I taught myself to spin as my daughter acquired 3 Alpacas and now a few sheep. This went on to purchase myself a Rigid heddle loom. It never ends the craft path.
    So you can see why I love to see what you make. I have just finished a bowl by your method and it's so much firmer I'm going to go through my stash to make more.
    I have only recently discovered you and look forward to going over your previous postings.
    A big Thankyou again.

    I just came across your channel a few days ago and have been enjoying watching your videos from the beginning. After seeing your crocheted basket in one of your earliest episodes, I watched and crocheted along with your tutorial. I spun a whole dark grey-brown Romney fleece a number of years ago and plied it into a sturdy 4-ply yarn.
    That yarn has been stored away all this time but is now being used to crochet baskets! Thank you for the inspiration. 🐑♥️

    What an incredible gift you have given us with this tutorial - thank you Ivana! I have some super bulky yarn in cream and brown that was spun in Lesotho and gifted to me by my sister many years ago but which was a little too harsh for a worn garment. It will be perfect for these baskets!

    Loved the video . I had made some baskets recently but differently . I loved the texture of the way you do yours so will make one that way . I didn't crochet into the v stitch and I like the closer weave you get . Also when turning for the sides I crocheted into the post of the stitch which did give a nice defined base but nice if you were looking at the base . :) .... I love the sharing of ideas and it is good to improve and learn new things

    • @therepublicofme
      @therepublicofme  4 года назад +1

      Dear Kerrie,
      Your baskets sound great as well.... I did find that crocheting into the V stitch does make the fabric thicker and more stable though.
      I guess there is lots of ways to make them... this is just how I do it and since a few people asked about it, I thought it's good to record the process.
      I hope it is easy to follow since I find it hard to actually teach someone.
      Thank you for sharing your process as well.
      Regards,
      Ivana

    I love the look of your baskets…specially the brown multi-toned one with handles! So, so rustic looking. Can I ask aside from you using a chunky yarn, is chunky meaning worsted #4??? What other kind of yarn can I use to make it look more “Rustic” ???
    And how many grams would your brown basket use up? Thanks so much for sharing your craft😀 Please video more rustic pieces in crochet!

    • @therepublicofme
      @therepublicofme  2 месяца назад

      the thicker the yarn, the sturdier the basket will be. For a rustic and affordable look in wool, I can suggest holding 2 strands of Lion Brand Fisherman's wool. ❤

      the republic of me I had 18 stitches instead of 16. I ripped back many times. I do not think I am joining correctly because I have a large space between the chain 3 and half double.

    • @therepublicofme
      @therepublicofme  4 года назад +1

      @@danielleboots7032 If in the first round you have 8 stitches, for the next round you should crochet in each of those stitches twice. The first one will be chain 3 and half double in the same stitch. Continue like that for the rest of the round and just stop when. you have 16.
      The link below will show you close up of where to crochet, although she uses different stitch and more of them. You can start her video from 3mins.
      This link is just so you can see where to insert the hook, but otherwise follow my numbers and do half double, rather than what she is showing.

    How many yards or pounds of handspun do you use for a large nesting basket. I have roughly 4 or 5 pounds of Corridale I need to spin up. This is a great idea. Thanks for this tutorial.

    • @therepublicofme
      @therepublicofme  3 года назад

      Dear Dalene,
      My large basket is a bit less than a pound, so you are good. But have in mind that I used woolen spun and woolen spun is lighter.
      Hope this helps.

    I Found Kin in a Thrift Store Photograph
    by Aaron Coleman
    Above my bed a black boy leans
    his chin down on the dark wood
    of a small bridge, his arms
    loose over the edge, far above
    the rushing water. His fingers
    let the wind’s anonymous grace spill
    through him. The night is cinders:
    flecks of bluish white and human red
    trapped inside the sky. His face so
    swept up in shadow his expression is
    full of the unknowable. A black boy’s body
    is a language sculpted out of silence.
    Outside of time, inside the picture
    this anonymous child has come
    to be my family. Somehow
    his legs sway with the framed waves
    at the same pace loneliness slips
    beneath the surface of intuition, floods
    the current called desire.
    On the far side I will never see
    his spine is my creation myth, a bone river
    of redemption, a choice to live, despite
    unkeepable love. This religion of slow loss
    balanced on the balls of his feet.
