    We are getting SO CLOSE to calling the building permit office and scheduling our inspection that will clear us to move into our house, but first we have a few projects to complete.
    We’re super excited to get the go ahead to move into the house, so we are pushing to finish these last few projects.
    Follow along as we complete a handrail for our interior stairs and start the stairs to our deck.
    *******************************************************************
    And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on RUclips. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 10 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own.
    Unfortunately, some unforeseen events in 2020 that were completely out of our hands put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin.
    In the summer of 2021, we FINALLY moved to the Hood Canal so we could start the build of our future home. While we are building our home, we are living in a camper trailer and the yurt that we built in the summer of 2020. We hope to have our cabin kit home built by the end of 2023. Just my husband and I are building the house. We get help here and there from friends along the way and we do plan to get help on the roof but other than that we are doing it all on our own.
    Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.

    We are currently doing a similar build. We did have it framed, roofed and sheathed. The rest is on us. Still a little bit of electric to run in a few rooms, but in the process of staining, sealing and shiplap installing on our own time and dime. Just sold our old house as well and been living the camper life for two years. Driveway and septic were two of our firsts as well.

      Congrats! It's quite a journey, but the fact that we'll have zero mortgage at the end of this process is a big motivating factor for us.

    Good morning guys!! How are you both? Well l am praying!! When l first saw your title l thought to myself what a load of BS!!! There is just no way that your house isn’t safe!!! If you look at the way you have constructed your home there is just no way that it’s not safe!! It’s a palace! You should be so proud of yourselves!! As per usual l sit here like a very proud Mumma watching you go from strength to strength on your build. It’s a house built with love…..the best building material ever!! Thankyou once more for allowing us to see more of your journey. As always l am thinking of you all. Oh by the way how did your son go at the track meet?? If he’s like Ryan he would have done well even if he didn’t win a prize!! Take good care. Love to you all. Big hugs!

    The concrete work is impressive

      @OneFootOfftheGrid  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks. I was a bit scared because it was really my first time doing concrete other than our pad we poured for mr.cool. I bought a mag float so hopefully next time it will look even better. I think I may have mixed the concrete a little too wet as well.

    If you mix sawdust from the railing (or a similar wood so it looks the same) with glue and put it in the gaps of the railing you made then when it drys you can sand it and it will almost disappear.

    If you know he is going to swing you need to make one of the screws longer to add additional support

    You will need to coat or seal the Bannisters really soon as they will soon look dirty!

      @OneFootOfftheGrid  5 месяцев назад

      Good point. We will be sanding, staining and polyurethane the hand railings. But thank you for the reminder. Maybe we'll put something on them until we get to that project so they don't get dirty.

    Do you really need the second railing for the smaller set of steps even though the other railing doesn't have any post interrupting the rail?

    • @OneFootOfftheGrid
      @OneFootOfftheGrid  5 месяцев назад +1

      I think the part that isn't covered by the othe railing is that it isn't "graspable". I'll ask the inspector thought when he comes.
