@@JigsawLoks770 I too have stuffered greatly in my life, stranger. Hardship is never nearly over but an ongoing endeavor. I can only encourage you to read Aurelius' meditations if you have not done so yet. It helped me greatly to accept that suffering in my life, which will hit me no matter how hard I want to try to avoid it. A big proportion of that suffering comes from within ourselves and the way we think about and look at things. Changing your approach and thought process to all what life throws at you can immensly alleviate the corresponding pain.
No book or speech in the world will make life free of suffering. Thinking about it the right way though, can make it a lot less unplepasant. Keeping a clear mind in these rough seas you might be sailing through these days, may even help to avoid unnecessary affliction in the future before it even araises.
If Aurelius' style of writing is not for you, you may have alook at John Sellars' "Lessons in Stoicism". A short and well structured read, outlining the stoic principles of thought.

    • @herzglass
      @herzglass 10 месяцев назад +140

@@nackjicholson1940 Absolutely. Yet I think the meaning does not lie within the suffering exactly, but in maneuvering around it, so it loses in relevance. You might be doing what you are doing in response to suffering, but it's not the suffering that gives you meaning, but the things you do to mitigate it. It's a moral duty to make life better, even if it is yours, it will positively impact those around you

@@BlueeJ There is avoidable suffering, and that is self inflicted suffering after the initial event outside of your influence. With the wrong mindset, that event turns into suffering, which then may turn into an ongoing odyssey, festering apathy and hopelesness, resulting in even more of the same.

Unlike in his case, not everyone knows - nor even CAN know - themselves as well as ol Marc. Not everyone can even know to ask for help. There are many who cannot decide the fate of their own battle.
Note, I didn't say "Won't" or "will not". I said "Cannot." It isn't in their power, and their choice won't make a difference. For many of us, if we don't have help that we can't ask for, we lose the war.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

I’m a recovering alcoholic, 11 years sober. I was suicidal by the end of my drinking. One thing I can offer anyone struggling with the will to live is that you have no idea how valuable you will find yourself at some point in aiding someone else through their suffering. Everything I’ve survived I’ve found myself at some point helping someone else survive. Without even looking for it, it just kind of happens when you find peace after suffering: you get the opportunity to be of service. Sometimes it’s our pain that makes us uniquely qualified to help another 🙏

When siblings, family and friends were of no help and had no concern I was there to take care of things that mattered most. You are the designated person who will take care of what matters most and that is your mission. See it through with dedication, be strong and on the other side you will be rewarded. Those around us who live life without a care and without a conscious thought of right, wrong and what is honorable will fall apart in their lives and drift away much as dust in the breeze.

You may not be as strong as Marcus, but you don’t have to be… None of us have to be as strong as he was.
Just strong enough to live on. Despite the pain and hardship.
I feel as though I’m stuck in place, working tirelessly till one day I’ll fall. And I won’t have the strength to stand back up.
But… I fight on anyways, because there may not be peace now, but… When will there ever BE peace? In death? That in itself is a mystery. I cannot say for certain I shall find anything but oblivion then.
So I’ll live my life, prolong that end. Even if it serves no purpose I can live and die saying I tried. And I didn’t give up.
It’s fine to fall of course, just… Make sure you don’t stay down. Small as it may be, there is always a chance to get to a better place if you just keep walking. And I hope it’ll be an easier road for you than it’s probably going to be for me. Most folk really do deserve better than what they’ve been dealt.

My friend, your soul is an enormous expanse that transcends dimensional limitations and even time itself.
Best of all, your soul space is yours to manipulate through your own will.
Envision a tall and majestic tower, completely ringed by an immensely tall wall.
Inside the wall is an idyllic and peaceful landscape. Small houses are scattered throughout that landscape, and the spirits and memories of those closest to you live within them. These spirits and memories are only the best times with these people; times when you felt safe and happy with them.
Now envision all the rage , hate, and anxiety in your self. Remember that it is YOUR rage and anxiety. It is YOURS to harness and control. It exists ONLY because you create it and allow it to remain.
Harness all that rage and anxiety and set it to guard the wall against all negative influences.
Yes, it takes work, but you can not only create a meditative space in your soul space, but you can also harness all the negativity within yourself and use it for your benefit.

I'm sorry for your loss. Please pray for healing. And yes, God exists. You are not obligated to believe me, but I will nevertheless share my story. I used to be agnostic and mentally mock religious people. But when I was going through difficulties (personal insecurities), God spoke into my heart and helped me. It wasn't a physical voice. It was neither in my ears, nor in my head. But in my HEART. It sounds absurd, and there are no words to describe it, but it was true. And the love I felt in my heart was the greatest feeling in the world. It is stronger than the kindest mother could ever love her children. A love that takes away any sadness. Now I don't just believe, I KNOW He exists. At that moment, I wanted to hug Jesus as tightly as I could and thank Him for all His blessings. He will help you through struggles. Even if you don't believe, still talk to Him, like you would talk to a friend. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. And if you TRULY want it, it will happen. I can't tell you when or how. That's different for everyone. But He will guide you to the truth. And He will ease your pain. He is the only one who can. JESUS CHRIST IS OUR SAVIOR. Wishing you the best.

"This is MY life, my body, my thoughts, my time. Even if I don't have it figured out....I'm sticking around until the end because nothing has the right to trick me in this way".

But most of all...stick around. That speaks to my soul. As did this entire 2 minute video. Appreciation!

Some days are much harder than others. The desire to just lay down and just let the world bury you so that you can have some peace gets strong. It helps, just like it does with many things, to break things down to their smallest task. One foot in front of the other, repeat. Better to be moving, even without a destination, than to stagnate. Granted, even the simple act of moving forward can feel like a monumental undertaking. But nothing worth doing is ever easy. Rest when you have to, but only for the purposes of getting back enough strength to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

What a life. Not at all what I imagined it would be.

Marcus Aurelius calls us to invest in ourselves, to enhance our virtues, and to live not for mere pleasure but for the profound satisfaction that comes from self development and providing better quality of life to our equals.

    My two cents.
#1 Wake up everyday and do something for yourself.
    #2 Just show up
#3 Please and thank you will make your days easier.
#4 Cook something you’ve never cooked before
#5 Get 3 Christmas greeting cards and send them to the 3 people you like in this world. Make sure you hand write them all and sent them.
    #6 Read a book
