Ryan, you are absolutely entitled to your own opinion. However, it would seem you’ve taken the wisdom of the stoics and twisted it to match your own bias and narrative. That’s great that you’ve built success, and you also make some good points. Most things here don’t examine overall character, but take things out of context and define an individual by one statement. You are correct about some of the things the individuals said, however, this is a direct shot at others using them as an example. I wonder how you’d feel if someone with a platform took something you said out of context and defined your entire being from it. Isn’t that what you’re doing here? 13:34 You’ve built an entire brand from some of the worlds best wisdom. Ryan, before criticizing people who think differently you should examine why they are formulating such opinions. Perhaps someone close to them has unnecessarily suffered from some of the dangerous idealogy and as a result, they have become passionate about the truth in that. Shouldn’t you yourself be looking at those individuals and how they feel as well? Rather than writing them off as bigots and bullies publicly? Perhaps this video was not so political in nature, but simply
Pointing out potentially harmful ideology (when taken out of context). I’d encourage you however to examine not just individuals who appear more conservative, but also individuals on the other side or middle of the road as well. Otherwise this comes off as you being extremely biased, making things sound less credible to likely half of your audience. The world we live in is undeniably political. Stoics were certainly not anti-politics, so it’s not the craziest thing for some to think that you are making a political statement here.

But what they can offer is a brief window into a deeper knowledge, a deeper experience of being. And I believe most people could benefit greatly from having that experience.
But I strongly disagree with Ryan’s characterization of most people who use psychedelics as evangelizing for them or needing to do them again and again. I haven’t done psychedelics in years, and I rarely bring them up in conversation. But I’ll be glad to tell you how they’ve changed my life.
The dangers of psychedelics are real and should be discussed before using them. But I’m glad I’ve used them. Great video, Ryan. But I think it’s not fair to put Peterson in the same category as Trump and Tate.
Not every word Peterson says is wise, and many times he is a victim of his own social media -where you risk being foolish in public, rather than in private. Perhaps because of that, the comparison is not fair: we follow people because of the ideals they represent, knowing that they don’t always embody those ideals - certainly not 24/7. They make mistakes and have excesses, like Marcus Aurelius: didn’t he choose a notoriously cruel successor and allow the persecution and torture of early Christians? One could make the same point with Seneca’s hypocrisy, and Nero. And yet, here we are. We admire them for what they did right.
I think Peterson deserves the same kind of judgment: most of his work and what he says deserves the attention it gets, in my opinion. He has helped many, many people - myself included - namely by digesting complex ideas and authors, like Christian morality, Nietszche or Carl Jung. He has helped many find a philosophy to live a good life - as you are very well doing, by the way.

I can even understand their inclusion in this video - not as leaders of toxic online conversations, but as people who are often quoted in those heavily edited videos that spread toxic masculinity, but I think because you did not acknowledge what good they have done, as well as challenge figures of different political views, and called them names (very Trump-like, by the way) - this just came across as using stoicism to push an agenda pre election.

When you talk about stoic virtues like empathy, it’s also important to talk about the fact that there are many, many bad actors in the world. We live in an age where, for example, it’s really trendy to self diagnose depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, etc to justify bad behavior or egoism personal accountability. Sometimes being a good person is not showing blind empathy to any and everyone who makes a claim about their suffering. Sometimes people are trying to take advantage of you or dodge consequences for their actions. This can be devastating to society if not checked.
People lie, virtue signaling is often a motive, and victimhood is commonly worn as a badge of honor. I think that’s why some of the guys you mentioned have gained popularity; young men gravitate toward them because they see all of the nonsense and then the overcorrect by being mean and dismissive to everyone.

    I gotta defend Jordan here.
Him choosing not to subscribe to language that is apart of an ideology he doesn’t agree with is one of the more stoic things a modern man can do.
“Let them call you mad and a fool, one day they will call you wise”
Almost 10years ago Jordan Peterson would discuss the dangers of pronouns evolving in society and the consequences that everyone would have as part of this.
If people who have pronouns MUST be called this and that then maybe we should show them some works of Epictetus to instill the idea that we can only control what’s within OUR control.
Flash forward to today and kids and adults alike are being forced to use language they don’t agree with in university settings.
Outside of a clinical setting NOBODY has an obligation to use forced language.
Jordan is the forefront for this message.

If I have had a different experience it's okay for me to see someone in a different light. Each of us is finding our own way with the guidance of the stoics. I will stand by choice and opinion on Jorden Peterson. I will credit him with literally saving my life at a time of crisis. I completely agree with him on the issue of compelled speech. You need to re-check the facts on "compelled speech" regarding Peterson. It's been confirmed that he openly lied about having to conform to the University's requirements - that was applied to the University as an institution, never to the personnel working for that institution. Several teachers at the time said he was made aware of that fact as they had been, but made a big deal anyway because he knew it would be a huge source of media publicity for him and the books he planned to write. He's an attention whore.

JP puts a lot of great advice out there and RH cherry-picks some comment that apparently offended RH about transgender people and “dead-naming” someone without identifying the actual incident. I’ve heard JP say that if an individual asks him to be referred to with certain pronouns or with a certain name he’d respect that, but he pushes back against Canadian laws which criminalize not doing so, which is a completely fair position in support of free speech. People today seem to have missed the lesson on how important free speech is. It’s fundamental to a free society.

I'm disappointed with Jordan Peterson. When he wrote his "12 Rules" book and provided a much needed connection between the mental health-care profession and millions of disillusioned and embittered young men, I was very much a fan of his. Once he moved to the right-wing media, he's delved into areas he really has no expertise in like climate change and COVID mandates. And yes, to the transgender point, at first, he brought up some legitimate objections to some of the language mandates, but he's mostly just become a cultural warrior for the Right, now not a reasoned voice in a sea of irrationality that can help individuals health and integrate into society like a therapist is supposed to.

Meanwhile the talk fully centered on aiming upward throughout your life and sacrificing your hedonistic whims for the betterment of society and those you love. He didn't "move" to the right. His commentary is seen as a threat to power, so, they assigned the "right-wing" pejorative to him as part of the corporate narrative. That term in the western political lexicon has basically lost it's meaning. It's become a slur, like,..calling someone a meanie or poopy-head. If you disagree with certain and/or, all things he says, and that's fine, but it's just lazy to dismiss people you may disagree with as "right-wing".

He has videos where he discusses topics that he is not an expert in, such as global warming and COVID mandates. Hell, he even talked to that phony Josh Hawley about his book on manhood.
I'm not using the label because "they" or the "corporate narrative" wants me to. It's empirically clear. I think you should criticize them too to be fair. But remember this Ryan, to blame others for not following your ethic, calling them good or bad, or using the f word to invoke emotion over reason in your rhetoric, or to influence the election by using your reputation instead of your virtue, these are not stoic.
