I purchased this a while back and have finally jumped to give a try. I got a little heavy-handed & impatient with the heat. What's the best temp to use? My heat gun is similar to the one you used but is digital with a dual fan setting. My 1st try turned out OK for me but will be working to "perfect" technique for gifts.

after I burn my design with torch paste it looks beautiful however when I wipe it afterwards with a dry or damp paper towel black ash smears all over the wood ruining my pieces. What did I do wrong?
