Nuthin like the sound and feel of a well tuned triple ! My personal vote of the 3 is the sound of that '95 XLT with stock exhaust. I had a '98 gen 2 XLT Classic, E start, reverse, Extra 12. Minty mint and about 1000 miles on it when I found it. One sweet peppy rider. Comfy but nice sting when ya wound it up. Also had a wedge body Ultra SKS edition out west. All stock except for powder ski's. Brutal to ride all day, real arm jerker on trails, but not so bad in loose powder in the play area's. HORRIBLE fuel mileage. You would end the day with a flat wallet and tired upper body. Fun for a hour or so, but no tears were shed as the new owner drove away with it. I still have a triple in the fleet. '01 Yam Venture 700 triple red head. All stock, fairly mellow below quarter throttle. Above half throttle its a different sled. Its power builds smooth and really comes in strong at about 6000. Only thing Im not happy about is its kinda loud for a stocker. Sounds more like a 800 or 900. Gets over double the fuel mileage of the Ultra. I think about sellin it now and then, but all it takes is a sunny day on the trails and Im stuck with it once again. Somthin about the silky smooth power and sound of a triple that keeps me owning one. Yooper Yeti. 😉
@@nuttersspeedshop My ultra was a stock SKS version with maybe 1.5 inch lug track. Everything was adjusted and in tune, it ran REAL strong and was a tad rich down low under quarter throttle ( I was at 4-5 thousand feet up mountain. ) Out in the hilly play areas with general playin around and no serious WOT throttle, I estimated around 5 MPG ! You really had to pay attention too not get to far away from your gas back where you started unless you wanted to do the walk of shame in super deep powder. It was easy to go through a whole tank in a single session during a mid day spin. By comparison the exact same ride done on the Yam 700 triple would be around 8 - 9 MPG. I also ran a '01 RMK 800 twin with a 156 paddle track there....... that could do the same ride and get around 10 MPG. I spent alot of time on the RMK........ but it didnt have that sweet triple sound and feel. Yooper Yeti
Hey guys! It’s been awhile! Glad to see you guys got some more snow, the fibreglass video looked liked summer time 🤷🏼♂️ Nice sounding trips for sure! All a little different for sure. I love em all! I dunno Dennis, pipes are awesome, but your XLT sounds pretty well in tune to me. Brad’s of course sounds amazing with the pipes, it’s a beast for sure 👍 Still partial to your 83 600 Nutter! So nice to see that out there on the snow, keep the old girls alive! Cheers guys!
@@nuttersspeedshop Hey John, I’ve been out of the loop for the last while due to a family crisis. My daughter passed away on Nov. 18th, so needless to say my life has been turned upside down lately. I’ll be back to my old self, just going to take awhile 🤷🏼♂️
Nice! Looks like you guys got way more snow up there than here (Green Bay). Hoping to get a little snow to do a shake down myself before our first trip of the season to the U.P. the week of Christmas. All I can say is, it better get snowing! Cheers, fellas!
The XCR Ultra sounds great and response looks froggy, she wants to jump. A friend of mine has the XCR Ultra turbo model, there is no turbo on exhaust but that sled moves on the lake very fast for an old sled. Hey I have a 95 xlt sks 600 and the spark just went away this year. Kill switch and key ignition switch check good so does the cdi. I have another xlt that I swapped that has good cdi. I'm thinking it's the pickup coil magneto bad ground?. Sled only has 250 original miles. Bought from polaris dealer in Trinidad Colorado who closed down couple years ago. I haven't checked out the 3 individual coils, ohm testing. Any ideas, thanks. I also need one of them 2 strokes kill covid shirts. Lol
It's a matter of taste...I guess. I spent years next to a drummer and screaming amps/monitors... some frequencies almost hurt in the way they crack, so I'm partial to factory sound and/or lower frequencies. The cracklin' bark of that Ultra, I just don't think I could listen to it all day. The other two are fine, and it's nice to see that '83 cutting through some powder! I took out the '95 Super Sport and the '98 500 Classic Saturday, and found out some recent winds took down a couple of weak tops and laid them across my little property loops. For your entertainment only, a glimpse of what I'm talking about: ruclips.net/video/5YMud8xUzzk/видео.html

I always heard Ultras get bad gas mileage.

Thanks. Get out the ohm meter and check the pickup and external coils. One is probably bad or maybe a bad connection.
Shock rebuilds , two years ago $55 bucks , each , last week , 127.41 each , but inflation is 8 percent ? I don’t think so !
