My Corolla idles at 700rpm at a stop sign, but recently, it's been dropping to 400-500 for a split second when I come to a complete stop. It feels like it wants to die before resurrecting itself. Every says to clean the throttle body (did that) and the idle air control valve, but that just made the issue more pronounced. Could this be caused by a failing alternator?
I didn’t have this problem until my voltage regulator on my old alt went bad supposedly and got a reman alt and ever since I’ve been having this slight idle down as well
Hii i am experiencing same thing did you figure it out ? It happened before too 2 years ago i changed all plugs but i dont know whats the issue this time if plugs life is over or something else
You can get a tune to fix your idle or you can add 1 or 2 more batteries to help delay this if you run them correctly and put at least 2 on a battery charger at night relaying on just your alternator is not the best option for your batterys do to it hammering amps in your batterys when you slow charge your batterys like led acid or AMG they will last longer and have a longer run time due to having a deep cycle charge when you are just relying on your alternator to charge your battery they're used to hammering amperage in and out so they will adapt and over time they will burn out faster
Setting your subsonic filter: find the tuning of your box, divide that by 4 and with the number you get from that, add half the number of your box tuning. And that’s the frequency you should put it at.
A second battery will help alot for you dailys, but if you plan on going loud for the hell of it, or competing in competition a 2nd or 3rd alternator with the addition of a smaller pulleys and a recalibrated ecm say someone handy with hp tuners can set you idle at a 1000 or even 1200 but I would suggest a higher stall converter, like a 2000 to a 2500 stall so it doesn't bang so hard when you put it in gear (manual, or a carburetor, or both this doesn't affect driveability much and is way or way way easier and cheaper) which also helps performance of vehicle. Depends on how far you want to take your build. The sky is the limit. Don't let anyone tell you anything different. #builtnotboughtwinseverytime
@@allinorallout5926 Ah! I currently have a setup with a taramps 5k and an Ural 6x180 so about 6500w total which probably draws within the region of 3700 watts. I have a custom made 280a alternator with an external regulator set to 15v charging a bank of 6 40ah yinlongs.. I just find when the car is sitting there and there is a big load the car tries to stall it's self. Since I'm from the UK we call them astra mk5 estates but I think you call them saturn astra in america. I'm just wondering if adding another bank of 6 cells would stop the big fluctuation with the rev counter. I see JP demoing and he can just let the tahoe idle and it wont fluctuate the revs. Cheers for your reply!
Well my rpms go down when I'm at a stop whit my foot on the brake goes down and up . But when I turn my headlights on it stabilized rpms are normal. If I turn them off it will go again down and up
My gmc sierra does the same thing like when I stop: rpm drops and feel a rumbling and see the rpm gauge is drop to zero and I try to rev it back up again, so I don't know if it has a bad air control valve with low transmission fluid
What if when you do your first startup the engine rpm works good, then drops a short while after, then goes back to the normal idle rpm 5 mins later? This happens on a nissan td27 engine.
i ended up.. adding a harmonic balancer torque converter clutch for a special alternator for amps only.. lol stalling idle.. cuz made pulley torque converter.. prototype.. from a go cart clutch.. lol 1985

Thank God I do not have this problem with my ride but MORE GREAT INFO KEEP THEM COMING JP THANKS.
What is the permanent cure to dropping rpm when I break and gear is engaged, apart from simply revenge up the engine
Hand throttle cables are good for setting your idle up when needed

Did you solve it? Mi rpm drop to 600 rpm at stop light in drive gear

Answered my question I drop around 50-75 rmp at idle while stopped
Thats pretty normal
Is it bad for your car it doing this at a light?
If u add a second battery would it help it? Kinda late
Can you explain a high out put alt on a truck wit regulated voltage sensor i understand it all just want make sure before i buy alt
Sooo whats the fix???
How do u setup uer subsonic filters and ure low pass filters

Does a bigger battery reserve decrease the load on the engine?

Jp do you have any Xs power d1400s
Nice GMT800 Yukon XL in the background👍
🤔 probably is the reason the alternator has a noise wheel bearing may have worn out.

Have you figured it out ?
@@emilyibanuelos yes
@@brettwillis6247 what was wrong with it ???? And how much did it cost to fix ?
@@emilyibanuelos there was a leak somewhere the oil pumps through, it cost me $600 to get it fixed
I'm getting that and a crackle in my door speakers... someone help

Same issue 2008 Scion xB 2.4L
Same issue on a 5.3 ever since i did a big 3

I allways laugh when they red line in the lanes thinking it helps
Tyvm bro
Remember you can't use your alternator charge your batteries
You can, it's just really hard on your alt. But I get the point you're trying to make.
What charges the battery then?
Solid info
Nice information👌
hahahaha.. 1985... 120amp & headlights dim.. f'n blow cylinders.. lol why..
Come on....that's common sense if someone doesn't know that they have no business even driving
Not common sense to everyone. Clearly we know, but I know for a fact at one point in your life you didn’t. Ease up buddy
