At long last. The climax of the great window epic. Like William Makepeace Thackery’s Vanity Fair, the rising action has been long leading. But like Vanity Fair, there has been a lot of profound matters to cover. But now, how satisfying to see these unique and irreplaceable (in a manner of speaking) pieces of this house’s grandeur and historical integrity. At long last, light soon filters through once again.
If only there were pictures of the construction going on back in the early 1890s. Its been said that Clayton would take final photos of the buildings and homes upon completion, but i haven't been able to find these. The Clayton descendants have boxes of photos and negatives though.
Yeah, window video! What a nice surprise on Mother's Day. I'm visiting family in California, so I got to the channel late. Hope you had a fantastic day and a good week. 🤗💐💐❤️🤍💙
It was a wonderful Mother's Day. I hope yours was too. Our family traveled to North Carolina to attend our son in law's graduation. Family time is the best.
We always prime wood underlay & cedar siding on both sides & cut ends with oil-based primer to prevent moisture penetration & warpage. LOVE yourcurved windows & panes. Glazing is a lost art. I loved learning to do this from my father! ❤️🙏
There are several sides to this discussion and I can only rely on our own experience and learn from dismantling or replacing historic window units throughout my career. There is a misconception shared by many that believe water rots wood. Water on its own does not hurt the wood at all, but if there is enough moisture, fungus grows and that is what rots wood. My opinion is that if we allow the parts of the window unit to breathe that are not in direct UV contact and not retain moisture then the chances of fungus growth in minimal. If the moisture content in the wood is below 20% the majority of the time, with the ability to dry out when it rises above that, then the wood will never rot because the fungus does not have a chance to grow.
Hint for marking keys: Using a P Touch label maker, I used 12mm Laminated tape to put a Letter on my house keys. I have several identical keys so I marked F for front, B back, K kitchen, G garage etc. The labels have stayed on for years.
FANTASTIC 🎇🎆🎇🎆 The windows have arrived in the building. Fancy covers for the toilet bolts, ceramic. If they cover them now its plastic. Great update 2x👍
We've been very busy since the first of the year. We have to take advantage of the cooler weather in case we have another killer summer. Last year, it just got way too hot to work.
I've tried so many over the years. It's fun how everyone developes their own style. I don't think I've ever tried the angled tool. I'll have to check it out.
I believe you have a floor drain with backflow in the upper floor bathroom in case the toilet overflowed. They often installed floor drains to prevent damage to lower floor ceilings. ❤️🙏
That's what I thought at first but the Kempner grandchildren remember playing in that bathroom because they liked to flush the toilet by stepping on the button. I need to get down on the floor and take a closer look at it.
Would you do one of your educational clips ( from back in the day) to explain how the curved glass is made. I’m sure you could whip up one of your cardboard models et al…

What a fun comparison. There has been a lot of drama leading up to this moment. It is so nice to finally have the parlor in full light.
Thousands of kudos to you! Amazing how you keep up with the tens of thousands of details involved in this restoration. Phew!!👍😱👍😃
Thank you very much! Every task completed helps the list get shorter.

That would be incredible to fi d pictures of the house during construction.
AMEN... This is a TREAT... Original pictures would be icing on the cake! ❤️🙏

Yay ! Windows ! The patience and dedication you all have ! Well done great to see all the progress ☀️
Thanks. It has been a long road to get here. More good things to come.

My instinc is to prime everything with oil base primer, too. These curved windows are a great feature. It is so nice to see them back up.

Love that old 1920’s bathroom commercial.
It was so fun finding that ad. It's a great bathroom. I've never seen anything like the floor tile.
@@leaguekempnerhouse is it feasible and or have you considered finding yellow fixtures ?

That's a great idea! I've tried color. Oding with fingernail polish but it wears off.

Lots of progress this week!❤

im sure you may know, but they make a nice putty knife with a 45 degree angle at the end to create a nice angle for the glaze..

Looking at the bare plumbing pipe up above at the end of the video really showed how much progress the project is making. Thanks for the video.
As of this week, our first new vent stack is through the roof. Yippie.
Oh, happy day!!!
It was a very happy day. So many good things happening at once.
It was a very happy day. So many good things happening at once.
What a sigh of relief you can have when this window project is completed.
Congratulations and best wishes.
It is a great feeling to have this project done, or at least this phase of it. The room looks so much better.
I'm still amazed at how big those windows are. And being curved must have been quite the expensive thing back in the day
They really are large. I've been searching for a replacement cost but haven't been successful yet.
I love McNatt. And your videos. Always learn new things on a Sunday
They are great. Such wonderful craftsmen. It is really a treat to watch them work. They don't quit until it's perfect.

@@leaguekempnerhouse So cool... I've never seen one before! I wonder if it's a custom or beta test unit? ❤️🙏
Yeah!
It was a big day for us.

I wish I knew. I'm going to research that.
@@leaguekempnerhouse they really are incredible.
Hi Janie!
I’ve really enjoyed this video, it was extra special.
Thanks so much for your effort.
Stay well..
Glad you enjoyed it! I love working on this wonderful house. It's so much fun to be around so many other people who care about saving it.
@@leaguekempnerhouse👍🏻 🙂
It’s going to be fabulous when they are installed. 😊
It is really changing the look and feel of the room to have so much light
YEEEEESSSSSS!!!!
It was a great feeling to see these windows go back in.
@@leaguekempnerhouse I bet, I was so excited and so proud for you at this amazing moment. What an achievement.
Let there be light!
The light in the room now is amazing.
Lots happening! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! We appreciate your support.
