That part when Atreus loses it when Kratos is gone in the light for just a moment but was actually a long time in Alfheim nearly broke me. Felt like letting my son down. I really thought that that was going to be a recurring thing and one day Kratos will be gone for so long that when he comes back Atreus would be all grown up.
Cory Barlog said that in his mind Atreus was by himself for a whole day, crazy stuff felt so bad for him but I assumedd it was only for a couple hours.
Great spoilercast for easily this year's best game so far. I'm so sad we have to wait so long for the story to continue, think they will wait till 3 to kill Loki not Kratos. Then have him go crazy and clean out the rest of the Gods and change realm. Cannot see something beating this for GOTY. As always class content ladies 😎
Really enjoyed the spoilercast! Dont know if this was mentioned already but I thought it was cool when Kratos realizes at the end that all the yellow markings in the game that guide you were all done by Fae revealing that she had already made the journey they just finished. Almost as if Fae was with them in spirit the whole time. Really cool moment.
Getting the Blades is hands down one of the single greatest moments I have ever experienced in a video game. I didn't stop playing until the end from that moment
You touched on some great aspects of the game that I think made it a masterpiece. I also was only mildly interested in the original GOW series but this one has brought it back in a whole new way. The writing and the conversations between father and son really connected with me.
This is the first one I've watched on RUclips as I usually listen on Google Play. Love you guys and I too LOVED THIS GAME! I'm a longtime fan of the series and was just blown away like you guys were. By the way, my husband introduced me to this podcast and it's my favorite of any other podcast. I personally don't have any lady gamer friends in real life and it's been so amazing listening to you guys and feeling the kinship! Your passion for gaming and nerdy things resonates with me so much. Keep doing what you're doing, ladies! I'll be listening :).
@whatsgoodgames What a great ending and game, you are literally playing in the past, present and future. Everything is answered to why the world serpent is even there, so everything has happened already which is your past but really is your future because you're playing it now....deep shit. Great show ladies.
Just like the Marvel Thor, God of War uses the Norse Mythology as a way point to create their own stories. If you go into this game thinking that GOW will follow exactly like the actual Norse mythology, you will be disapointed. It is loosely based on Norse Mytho just like Thor marvel.
I got chills when we got the blades back! All those great memories came flooding back, i mean the axe was cool but when i got the blades back i didnt use the axe unless i had to haha. THAT ending too with Thor! God...these next 5 years gonna be loooooooong :(
I don't think it will be 5 years since they already have a lot of things in place with the engine, mechanics, story, etc. I'm guessing closer to 2-3 years.
So the only way to beat the Queen of the Valkyries is by being really high level like I was, but go to Niflheim and Muspelheim and get the items to craft three different fire armor or go to Niflheim to craft three different mist armor which gives Kratos so much health
You made me think about that last artwork, Atreus may be giving birth to the world serpent while holding Kratos. Also Freya is the real queen of the Valkyries. I think something else to think about is how Kratos thought that everything was about him (which also makes the gamer focus on this as a story about Kratos) but it’s clear that Baldur was looking for a way to get to Jotunheim from Faye. So it’s possible Odin and Thor and others have no idea who he is.
Really enjoyed this video ladies. Insightful and very good breakdown of different story themes and mechanics. Loved the game personally and it’s definitely the front runner for the best of the year :-D
What's good, ladies? After listening to several Cory Barlog's interviews about God of War and hearing him explain how important it is to strike a balance between player agency and hand-holding, particularly at the beginning of a game, I'm left wondering if the same kind of "hand-holding" isn't as important at the very end of a game? I felt GoW's ending diluted because I defeated the "final boss" without realizing that was the last battle. After they spread Faye's ashes I kept expecting the next act of the story (Thor's appearance anyone?) and then... the credits rolled (sort of) only to find out a secret ending that robbed of the emotional punch I'd have felt if the last portion of the game was tighter and less open. Thoughts? I LOVED GoW. One of the best games I've played, I just have this weird feeling of incompletion. Anyone else feel the same way? Thanks for everything you do.
Hey Christian! I understand where you're coming from for sure. Throughout gaming we've become accustomed to this formula of "Okay, we know where this story is going, and once it gets there we know there's going to be a HUGE boss fight and then roll credits!" Personally I'm okay with games keeping you guessing "Is this it?! IS THERE MORE?!" Obviously Kratos' story is far from over, and this game is just a chapter in his story, not like, the definitive end, so I'm okay without there being a HUGE major boss fight. Wolfenstein 2 did something similar in the sense that it was hard to tell when/where the story was going to end, and I kind of like that. I think the feeling you have is because, again, this obviously is just the setup for the future stories to be told. ANYWAY just my thoughts! -BB
Thanks for taking the time to reply, Brit =) Good point. I agree with you, this game is not only a setup for future GoW stories, it's also a step up for video game storytelling in general and it is thus experimenting a bit with formulas and shaking up our expectations. As always, love your show and insights!
I beat God Of War 100% platinum trophy, the 2 realms are Niflheim and Muspelheim which I got an armor set from Niflheim which is one of the best in the game, but you have to grind out both realms to get both armor sets, at the end of the game I was level 9 close to max
I think Thor will attack them (in the next game) and Kratos will die (or be mortally wounded) defending Atreus/Loki (tying into what he said in this game), but Thor is wounded enough that he has to escape and recover. This is the scene from the mural in Jotunheim. You will then play the second and third entries as Atreus/Loki and the trilogy will end with Atreus/Loki saving his father (to contrast Kratos killing his). It will most likely involve some kind of time travel shenanigans (already alluded to with the world serpent getting flung back in time, the season puzzle using time magic and to fill in blanks like who blew the horn of Tyr).
I beat God Of War 100% platinum trophy, the 2 realms are Niflheim and Muspelheim which I got an armor set from Niflheim which is one of the best in the game, but you have to grind out both realms to get both armor sets, at the end of the game I was level 9 close to max level which is 10, with max Kratos and Atreus stats and max level armor, bow, skill so It was very hard for me to die
Great spoilercast. I think Mimir is my favourite character in the game, I spent many a time sitting in the boat until a story had ended before getting out. I'm glad Thor and Oden weren't in it, I think it made the story more focused on the relationship and not the grander scale of the world. Definitely saving those for sequel/s. The only criticism I really have is that the compass and marker tracking isn't good and seems to jump all over the place when you try to follow it.
Rolled credits and saw the secret ending last night. The only part I wasn't happy with was from when Atreus snaps at Sindri to when both he and Kratos sweep the visions in Helheim under the rug. It really bothered me that Atreus was in such disbelief that he had killed Modi and acted that way amd we don't really get to see then address that. He just goes back to being a good boy, which I liked him through and through. My favoutite part of the gane is during the final Baldur fight when Atreus is throwing down with Kratos. Never have I been so proud of a fictional character lol Another moment that stood out to me was how playing Hellblade spoiled the Freya/Baldur relationship. As soon as Freya took the arrows from Atreus and said what they were, I must have missed Sindri mention what they were made out of, I knew that was an act of motherly love. In Hellblade, one of the Lore Runes speaks of Baldur showing off his invincibility at God Parties by getting guests to throw things at him just to have them break ofd him and do no harm. Loki tricks someone into throwing a dart, or something, made of mistletoe at him which kills him. So remembering that story, I was spoiled for that story beat in GoW. Still got Niflheim and the Valkeries to go. Probably wont platinum the gane cause I hate collectathons but I want the armor from both those side quests.
I feel Freya was so afraid of what Odin could do, that she worried it would carry over to her son. She just wanted to protect him from Odin but instead pushed Baldur right towards him.
Loki gives birth to the world serpent, and if the serpent was sent back by atreus in time after killing Thor then it's possible that the time line where Kratos dies can be altered. It's and easy guess that the sequel will center around time.
Great spoilercast, shame Cory couldn't make it. It seemed like you were a little confused on why exactly As another comment mentioned when Freya tells you about her son, before you know it's Baldur, she mentions "the runes foretold a needless death" which is why she used her magic to protect him. Turns out the runes were right. I also wish you'd have talked about Brok and Sindri as I thought they were great characters and their backstory was interesting. They were the ones who created Mjolnir as well as the Leviathan so they may play a bigger part in a sequel if we come up against Thor too.
I think Atreus is going to ask for kratos' power for ill intentions and kratos says no, so Atreus tricks and kills him and takes his power and that is the thing that's between their mouths in the mural
thor is going to tell kratos to help him since his actions have brought forward ragnarog and kratos killing thors sons will be forgiven for preventing ragnarog but their team up will not be a friendly one
Do you guys do your podcasts together now or is this a one off? I stopped watching because of the annoying split screens with horrible sound and constant overlapping because of lag. Maybe I'll check you out again if it's actually done together. You guys did alright with the spoilercast but you should have read more scrolls and got more stories in game because you missed the point of many of the plot points like the reason Freya cast the spell, the fact that giants weren't always giants and many others because they were explained in great detail during the playthrough.
I also agree with Kristine. The game started slow for me. I still don't consider it the best of this generation, but I didn't understand the hype until very far into the game, and after finishing it, I think it's absolutely a 9.5-10 out of 10 game.
OH YESSS! That was tense. I kept thinking we'd see Atreus grown up at some point myself. -BB
Cory Barlog said that in his mind Atreus was by himself for a whole day, crazy stuff felt so bad for him but I assumedd it was only for a couple hours.

Michael Granger That’s entirely too predictable of an approach to be what’ll take place and Kratos is much older than he was in GoW3
“Can I turn into a wolf” foreshadowing the Loki reveal.
Dun dun duuuuuuun. -BB
My favorite part of the game is when Kratos says "Boy!"
Hahaha so basically the whole game? ;) -BB
I liked the part when he swung the axe...
Really enjoyed the spoilercast! Dont know if this was mentioned already but I thought it was cool when Kratos realizes at the end that all the yellow markings in the game that guide you were all done by Fae revealing that she had already made the journey they just finished. I know it's quite randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Matthias Torin flixportal
@Elliot Ramon thank you, I went there and it seems to work =) Appreciate it !
@Matthias Torin You are welcome :)
Getting the Blades is hands down one of the single greatest moments I have ever experienced in a video game. I didn't stop playing until the end from that moment
Varun Jhanji Great moment. As soon as I realised what was happening I sat up and was like "Oooh shit!"
You touched on some great aspects of the game that I think made it a masterpiece. I also was only mildly interested in the original GOW series but this one has brought it back in a whole new way. The writing and the conversations between father and son really connected with me.
Thanks for watching! Happy to hear you enjoyed the conversation. -BB
Andrea i appreciate you trying to get the camera zoom in controls down on the people that are talking and you did awesome
The bad quality close up shots weren't needed. The one shot would've been perfect.. A for effort...

Sept 2022. I've just completed GoW for the first time. I kept this video to watch later and I'm watching it now.

Malcolm M.
Kratos actually looks a lot like the World Serpant if you think about...
Alexander Chilton he does. There was a theory that people think they’re the same since it got sent back in time. But Cory Barlog kinda shut it down
That device is pretty cool that allows you to switch camera angles and shots.
Defeated the ninth Valkyrie while listening to ya! Thanks for the help and the awesome spoilercast!
DAAAAMN. I've watched Andrea try to take down that biatch and I get frustrated just watching! -BB
ALSO CONGRATS!!! -BB
That was a tough battle that had me nearly Spartan rage myself. I may have sworn loudly at them as I killed them
THANKS :)
Anthony Warren Yeah she was pretty hard from what I've heard, but she only took me 4 tries, probably because my gear was really good.
I got a kick out of you asking "Is this how it really went down?" like this is based on a true story, lol.
So Cory Barlog says there are hints that Atreus is Loki right from the start. Did I just found one? Or is this known already?

OH SHIIIIIIIIII - BB
5 months after, I can finally watch this.
Really enjoyed this video ladies. Insightful and very good breakdown of different story themes and mechanics. Loved the game personally and it’s definitely the front runner for the best of the year :-D

Anybody know who blew the horn after atreus got sick??
Oooh this is a great question! I forgot about that. -BB
Still haven't found an answer to this!
It was Kratos and atreus
Andrew Dunn how do u figure it was them ??
Gaming God arteus will learn to time travel. Apparently loki can do that in the mythology.
I think Thor will attack them (in the next game) and Kratos will die (or be mortally wounded) defending Atreus/Loki (tying into what he said in this game), but Thor is wounded enough that he has to escape and recover. WOOOOOOOOF. That's a helluva theory, but you could be right! I can't wait to find out what happens. Can we, like, speed up time? -BB

Nice work with the pronunciation Andrea! Do you have family from Norway?

You guys have to go back to Kratos's home and rest!
We did! We talked about this!
I enjoyed listening. Thanks!
Blade of Chaos and Kid becoming asshole are the best sequences in the game...
Those are definitely emotional moments! -BB
U forgot to discuss about freya as the Valkyrie queen and she is trying to get her wings back
YES. I don't know if any of us were aware of that at the time of recording! -BB
I STILL HAVEN'T BEATEN HER UGH.
Great spoilercast, shame Cory couldn't make it. Ooooh. Yeah, I'm thinking it's gonna be a "let's use each other" for a while and then it'll turn into a "let's kill each other" -BB
Regnerock?
Did no one ever played Hellblade the story of Bolder and his Mother is in it!!

WOOHOO! Hope you enjoyed! -BB
i recommend people not look up the mythology before hand your just spoiling the game for yourself like one of the show casts just did
*rushes to finish gow* D:
YOU GOT THIS! -BB
I would suggest you return home ASAP and interact with the beds! It triggers a secret ending... Won't say more...
Road2Dawn They now about the secret ending.
Yep sorry about that... Lesson learned :D Reminder to self: "make sure you watch the whole video before commenting"
I agree with the gals. When Atreus was being a little bitch, I almost wanted to quit the game because he was ticking me off so much.
I also agree with Kristine. The game started slow for me. I still don't consider it the best of this generation, but I didn't understand the hype until very far into the game, and after finishing it, I think it's absolutely a 9.5-10 out of 10 game.

#NotAllGiants
Omg you spoiled it for me 😭😭😭 jk... maybe
Rickey Mcclendon *obi wan:* you have done that yourself
Mike I’m not worried about spoilers
Aaaaahhh... Sluys
