  • The Shoei RF-1400 is a new motorcycle helmet released by Shoei this year. After owning the RF-SR and RF-1200 I decided to buy the RF-1400 to review on this channel and test long term. It has now been 5 months of riding with this helmet so I wanted to update you on my impressions. This is not sponsored content, I just love the Shoei brand and these are the best motorcycle helmets in my honest opinion. I strongly prefer to ride with Snell approved helmets and Shoei meets that criteria.

    I totally agree with your reasons behind wearing a jacket even in the wonderful Arizona summer! I wear my mesh jacket all the time and don't feel like I'm any hotter wearing it then not wearing it. If I'm going to ride for more than an hour during the summer I usually wear my HD hydration vest under my jacket, which makes a big difference during the AZ summer! Great content!!

    I have owned the RF1200 and the gt air and now using the neo tec 2 . I am a fan of the construction and quality. Styling isn't the best but I prefer function. I also happened to live in a extremely hot climate in socal. And in the summer months I just leave my visor open but then again I am on a bagger with a tall windshield. I always wear long sleeves at a minimum in the heat. Clothing prep is a most if you take it serious

    I just purchased an RF-1400 and I’m very happy with it. I like the center opening position better than the side one on my RF-1100, the side one always twisted the shield a little when opening. I purchased a Cardo Packtalk Bold shortly before buying the helmet and was concerned about whether or not it would install properly on the RF-1400, almost to the point of not getting the helmet. I decided that I would use the adhesive mount rather than the clip and it is working great. Granted the surface on the side has some curve to it, but I found an area that is relatively flat that probably fully contacts 80% of the 3M pad. I’ve been keeping an eye on it to make sure it’s staying put, and it has, no lifting up around the edges. Thanks for your review, I’ve started watching your channel recently and enjoy the content.

    Ha..!! After much agonizing, I was just about to pull the trigger on the Shoei RF-SR.
    Now… after watching your excellent video… I find myself re-thinking my decision.
    Am I understanding you correctly: in that you’re saying the RF 1400 has better air flow than the RF-SR..??
    I live in tropical southern Florida. So air flow is very crucial in my decision.
    Thanks for a very honest video.
    Stay safe…

    I have the UK version of the RF-SR, the RYD. To me the centre latch on the visor for the RF1200 (NXR 2 in the UK) is much more sensible, means you can be more ambidextrous in opening the visor up. With the latch on the left it biases things towards opening the visor on the move vs at a stop, sometimes I only realise I need to open up after I've stopped and that takes a bit more juggling to either put the bike in neutral or reach across with my right hand.

    I like Shoei helmets. I have two now. I use a GT Air on the street and an X-14 on the track. The RF-1400 is interesting because it's geared to Euro standards, meaning it has more flex to it. It's supposed to help more in an accident when you are bouncing off of multiple points of the helmet instead of multiple times on the same point.

    • @user-fe5bi7ul4t
      @user-fe5bi7ul4t 2 года назад

      I thought the GT Air was only DOT? Ior maybe thats the GT Air 2.

    • @64t120r
      @64t120r 2 года назад

      @@user-fe5bi7ul4t You're correct. There were a couple models of the GT. One was Snell approved and the other had a drop down visor. Snell won't approve any helmet with a drop down visor. I think the Air has the visor. Now they have the Air 2. Like I said, I use the GT on the street. I saw a guy get bounced from a track for having the drop down visor. That happened at Pocono Raceway.

    I've had the 1400 about a month now. Just got back into street riding (been on dirt for 30 years). I didn't give it much thought, but compatibility with intercom systems isn't a given. I bought a Cardo Freecom a couple weeks back, and the speakers wouldn't fit in the ear wells. I gave up and returned it without doing a full install. After a couple of weeks of research, with the Sena SRL-EXT as the only advertised compatible system with the 1400, it seems people are installing the Cardo even though the speakers don't fit, and they say it works good. So, I re-ordered the Cardo (it arrives tonight), and I'm hoping they were right.
    Is that what you have? The controller on the side of your helmet looks similar to a Cardo.
    I do like the helmet, btw. The ventilation is very good, road/wind noise is minimal, and its quality is good. I have no issue with the flip up visor lock. 'Course I had no muscle memory flipping up a visor since all of my dirt gear didn't have visors.

    Great review! Thank you. May I ask how you have your GoPro mounted to your RF1400?

    • @GearsGadgets
      @GearsGadgets  2 года назад +2

      Just a combination of short gopro arms on a basic 3M taped GoPro plate (double tape to conform to the helmet shape). I use a GoPro Hero 7 in a Ulanzi aluminum case. Audio is recorded onto a separate TASCAM DR10 with a stupid expensive sennheiser microphone. You can run the GoPro mic adapter with some cheaper microphones but I got tired of dealing with some common GoPro audio issues.

    I’ve got an RF1400 with a smoked visor, love it. It’s a great helmet and the ventilation is nice. Can I ask what speakers/comm system you have? The one complaint I have with the RF1400 is it’s so tight on the cheeks with the additional padding that I can’t get my headphones to stay in when I put my helmet on so now I’m on the hunt for a good Bluetooth speaker system.

      I sat with the rf 1400 for an hour on my head in the shop. Gave me a forehead hot spot. With the RFSR I never got a hotspot after an hour of sitting in the shop with it. Both sizes were XL on me and fit good. Seems the 1400 has a slightly narrower intermediate oval compared to the RFSR.

    I have this helmet in the same matt blue. I have ~8 Shoei lids, several Arai, Bell, HJC...most since 2008. This is the worst paint I've seen, on any of them. It is soft, and seems to get marks in the paint if you look at it sideways. I don't remember how my glasses fit in the RF1400, but my Neotec II, X14 and J Cruise all lift my Oakley frames up off of my nose. If Shoei had fixed this common problem, I wouldn't have just ordered another Arai.
