I had braces as a teenager, but never wore my retainer, so here I am getting aligners to straighten out my teeth again. Mine weren’t too bad, so my entire program was 6 trays over 5 months. My dentist did it for me, using the Smile Direct brand aligners, not Invisalign. 1. Difference in brands is price (Invisalign is the most expensive brand on the market), and whether you get attachments on your teeth (Invisalign May include attachments and even bands. Smile Direct had “buttons” molded inside the aligners themselves rather than glued to my teeth.). Here is where I warn you that my case was an easy one. My teeth were starting to crowd and overlap a bit on the bottom, but not so bad anyone else could really see it yet. If your teeth are really crooked, you may need up to a couple of years and dozens of aligners, or you may have to get regular braces for some problems like crooked back teeth. 2. Many people have to get at least one or two crowded teeth filed along the sides to make room for the other teeth to push back in and align. It sounds horrible, it feels nasty when the dentist does it, and it can leave a gap and sharp edge on your tooth that can even cut your tongue if you keep poking at it (when your aligner is removed) before your teeth are fully aligned. You’ll live. Your teeth will be fine. It doesn’t hurt. 3. Retainers and aligners don’t stink any more than your own teeth, if you clean them every time you remove them. (Yes, EVERY TIME.) Invisalign instructions on its website says to brush your aligners with a soft toothbrush and toothpaste, but in another page their FAQ says use a bit of dish soap. Smile Direct says the same. Both sell “aligner cleaners” that are like a denture tab. The main point is to put your appliance in distilled water if you’re not wearing it (i.e. keep it) and don’t soak it in harsh cleaners, alcohol, or mouthwash. 4. Whitening toothpaste (actually ANY toothpaste) is abrasive and will eventually turn your appliance cloudy. Not a problem if your changing aligners every week. Definitely a problem if you’re on your permanent retainer. Invisalign AND Smile Direct offer aligner cleaner... it’s not to soak it for hours, just 15 minutes, give it a scrub, rinse, then pop back in. Ingredients are identical to many denture cleaners except most denture cleaners have some sort of whitening ingredient. But hey, aligner cleaners have sodium lauryl sulfate, so choose your poison, eh? Most orthodontist sites say use an UNSCENTED soap (plastic can absorb floral soap odors) or a gentle toothpaste for sensitive teeth and a soft toothbrush. An occasional dip in hydrogen peroxide will kill off any bacteria if you’ve been sick or had strep. 5. Finally, yes, the edges of aligners can be sharp plastic and rub inside your cheeks or on your gums and tongue, causing sores. Get some GUM ortho wax. Braces are bad about the same thing. You’ll learn how to place a tiny wad of wax in the spots that rub. My dentist said if a spot is really sharp, file it down gently with a clean, new emery board. Round it off like you would your fingernails. 6. Pulling an aligner out is easier if you’ve got strong nails. I don’t. I need a puller... it’s a little plastic hook to catch the edge of the aligner. Gently tug one side, then the opposite until you can get your fingers in to remove it. Wearing a latex glove helps, too. It’s not pretty, so do it in a restroom, not at the dinner table. 7. Aligners were much better than braces! I’ve had both. Both make your teeth hurt, because they’re moving them. Both rub your cheeks raw. Both are hard to keep clean. But I can remove an aligner for a speech or photo. Get a “go bag” and put in your puller, case, chewies, toothbrush, toothpaste, wax, and floss. For emergency teeth cleaning, I also carry Wisp disposable toothbrushes that don’t require water. Not the best, but they’ll do so I could put my aligner right back in after snacking or eating. Do your research if you’re thinking about aligners. It takes commitment to make them work. Braces are kind of a no-brainer, but there’s no way I wanted those again.
Thanks for the excellent feedback, but you never talked about the outcome! Overall, how well did the Smile Direct Club aligners work at straightening your teeth in the end? I am also in what sounds like a very similar scenario - had braces as a young teenager for 5 years, but did not diligently wear my retainers - and now my teeth have shifted slightly, and so I am now as a 30-year-old adult looking into aligners.
I can't have normal braces bc I have marks on my teeth that would get worse and make my teeth fall out of get sick. Whare as with Invisaligns that doesn't do that
@Giff Tees I'm sorry but I'm 11 and I did not choose to get Invisaligns. My dentist said that was the only way for me to have braces. I can't do traditional bc of my teeth
Solutions for problems: Stink - soak in Hydrogen peroxide briefly Rough Edges - Use a Dremel or a file to assist with rough edges Diet - Intermittent fasting, don't eat so much
use a sonic jewelry cleaner with retainer or brace cleaner - that helps a lot. If u change them every 2 weeks they get dingy so ya peroxide or bleach (but the bleach smell stays & u can only use either one for a few second 10 to 20 because it eats the plastic). I had to file mine too :(. Had 8 attachments and I had straight teeth . . . just needed the bottom 4 pulled back into line a little (ur teeth drift or overlap as u age - I was 54) I also think I was "over treated" for the money - I figured 6 month - he did 2 yrs & my retainers are STILL painful & were $500 for 1 set
Lucy, Dr Zufall here in Redding, California, USA. Must tell you that I recommend your video to ALL of my dental patients who are considering Invisalign treatment. I watched many videos from the industry and the manufacturers and none of them do as wonderful a job at explaining the process as you do! Thanks so much for these 8 minutes - I think you have a future in broadcasting!
I wish I knew: •They start to stink after a couple days •Since your teeth are moving, theyre loose and they hurt like they did when you were 6 and were losing your baby teeth. It makes it hurt to eat. •The constant brushing is annoying •People can tell you have it when you wear attachments, bands and you talk with a lisp (because of the aligners) •They start to color white and get cloudy after a couple days even with daily cleaning of the aligners (2x a day, with toothbrush and toothpaste) •The edges cut your tongue and the inside of your lip and give you ulcers
If you brush and FLOSS properly before going to sleep as well as washing your tray with water and liquid SOAP... everything will stay clean and no terrible morning breath at all.
LucieAndTheBump I’m a dentist and a patient, I can assure you, if you floss and brush properly, as well as cleaning the tray... the bacterial load it’s would be to low to cause “terrible” bad breath.
sofia celedon my orthodontist and the actual company Invisalign said you can use soap. It’s in the instructions they give you so maybe you should read them
I have Invisalign. I’m a year in now and go for refinements tomorrow. I’ve never had to have my teeth filed but everything else you said is spot on. Good luck with your journey and enjoy your beautiful smile.😁
I'm a very frequent snacker, I am literally constantly snacking, and I've only had mine in for 5 hours and I'm about to lose my mind not being able to snack. Despite just now taking them out for a real meal I am 200% melodramatic that I'm going to starve to death.
morticOn I wish I had gotten regular braces. Invisalign is a pain to take care of teeth. If you don't clean your teeth (EVERY TIME YOU EAT) adequately (sonicare brushing 5 minutes, Waterpik, cleaning trays with antibacterial SoftSoap), you WILL HAVE CAVITIES. I had regular braces many years ago. They were very easy. BTW, there's pain regardless of which braces you use. You get used to the discomfort.
I suppose everyone has a different experience with Invisalign depending on various factors. I'm currently going through the process and perhaps I'm lucky because I have experienced no pain or discomfort whatsoever. Even though I have 20 attachments on my teeth (more than most people have), I have had no difficulty putting in and removing the aligners. My breath never smells because I diligently and meticulously brush and floss my teeth and disinfect my aligners each night. I expected all the negatives you mentioned, but quite honestly I can't believe how easy and pain free this has actually been for me. I only wish I had done this sooner. Thank you for sharing your experience.
No pain, no gain! I am a dedicated snacker and I will pop them off for just a minute, wash and brush and put them back on to ensure I still relish in my late night chips and salsa….
I am a 59 year old man in week 12, wearing each set for one week. #1- pain- I needed aspirin daily for the first few days. #2- sharp edges- only my first set was sharp in one spot. #3- attachments- I have 14 of them. They hurt the inside of mouth while eating, but got used to them. #4- snacking- I used to eat all the time. I learned to eat big, and have dessert right away. #5 -Carrying cleaning gear - I just eat at home. #6- filing - I had a bit done before my first set went in. #7- trouble removing them- yes, with lots of attachments, it took a bit to figure how to get them out. #8 - breath- when I take them out, the go into a small covered bowl with clean water. After eating I floss and brush well. Then each aligner gets a brushing under running water, with a small bit of foaming antibacterial hand soap. I use a separate toothbrush for this. Rinse well and put them in. I do keep them in except for eating. Hang in there. I also drink tons of water.
telecasterbear hi, I’m 58 and considering Invisalign. What made you decide these vs braces. I realize I am a snacker and I know I better be ready to brush more.😂😂😂
@@tanedasmith9370 I was told traditional braces would be a longer journey. Also, there are many more visits to the office for adjusting braces. I had 2 visits at the start, then one more visit to the office between aligners 12 and 13. I am currently on aligners number 19. Best wishes for you.
I literally have no horror stories with invisalign. It has been so easy, except for when I change trays and the teeth are tender..but it only lasts like 2 days so it isn't bad. Only annoying thing is when the trays start getting discolored but things can't be perfect.
StephSquared - agree with what you say. I'm only on tray 4 of 30 but only need to change trays weekly instead of fortnightly. No sores, no smell, tender for 2-3 days. No weight loss either 😕 I just eat more when trays are out.
I am looking into Invisalign for my son who may be close to your age. Thank you for being so real and putting yourself out there, it isn’t easy. I think your kindness and willingness to help others sets you apart from the rest. I hope that I will be able to instill in my two little girls the same strength and beauty you reflect.
1. Dear Lucie, Orthodontist here talking here: normally in your case, I would choose the conventional method, that can deal much better with the amount of movement you need. (your case is not a simple one). That's why it hurts so badly. But do not give up. I understand that you and your dentist choose this method for aesthetic reasons (because you are a vlogger). Another good option for you would be the ceramic braces. The results are also better in your case. But, again, no pain (and other issues), no gain. I'm glad you are taking it seriously.
Thanks for sharing. I'm a dentist. It's nice to hear a patient be candid about their experience with invisible braces. I will be sure to warn my patients!
These are the things I wish I knew~ -they kinda start to smell near the end of the week even if you brush them and stuff. -they hurt like heck and you feel like a 7yo losing your teeth -there is food EVERYWHERE and you wont be able to have it -they arent invisible its probably different for others because i have a lot of attachments and also rubber bands, however pretty much everyone can tell i have them so unless your problem is really simple you have to know they're not completely inconspicuous. -whatever you think, they're grosser than you think...
Kayleigh Campbell I had mine for a week but yes you don’t see them so much, But the first days the clumps you have on your teeths ( without the braces on ) is hurring very much But now a week after im Stattin to geting used to them. But trust me I would rather have normal braces were i can just eat and eat without having to go and brush my teeths putting them in again, go again and again and again. I Wish i saw this video before i got them, its very annoying that you can’t even drink milk, appeljuice, or whatever without having to take them out.
been successfully changing trays every 5 days, have had invisalign for about six months now, here's my advice: -you really truly don't have to brush your teeth every time you eat, you can just give your mouth a rinse as well as your invisalign and call it a day -if you decide to drink/eat something, you can also literally just let your saliva wash out your mouth for about 20 or so minutes if you don't want to brush/rinse, that's what saliva is for! -brush your teeth, floss, AND use mouthwash in that order every single day or you're going to regret it -rather than cleaning your invisalign with toothpaste, just use soap! liquid soap works best, don't use too much and brush with your toothbrush! that way your aligners don't get cloudy and gross -try to keep them on as much as possible so you're in pain for less time -if after a few days they still hurt a lot, especially if it's hurting a few specific teeth, take ur invisalign off and bite down a bit, after like 5 minutes, it should ease your discomfort
I'm only on my 2nd tray. A couple of years ago my ex-dentist convinced me to get braces instead of invisalign. Well apparently she didn't know what she was doing and kinda botched it up. She also used all the money that the insurance would pay for the procedure. I got a different dentist now and have started invisalign. I haven't had any pain and just a little tenderness. The tenderness is because the teeth are moving which is a good thing. Invisalign also has an app you can put on your phone that can track how much time you kept your trays in and it also can remind you when to change to the next tray. Oh, and there is a timer to remind you to put your trays back in (which is good because sometimes I forget). I change my trays every 2 weeks and maybe that is why I don't have pain because my teeth are moving more slowly. I will get 20 trays total. I will go see the dentist every 6 weeks to make sure everything is going the way it should.
eakpala18 No. that’s asinine for so many different reasons, I don’t even know where to begin. Everyone’s jaw/smile/facial structure is different. so why would moving all these different things all result with the same undesirable result?
The no snacking and how the anchor attachments feel without the tray: Totally! Unavoidable, but didn't see it coming. Good point about how the anchors make you want to put the tray straight back in. Edit: And YES. Taking them out is harder and more painful than I expected. And my teeth get SORE from it. Instinctively I also want to put them back in straight away because the settling/lack of usual pressure also makes them hurt. Ah well, it's only for a year!
I looked up the word "fortnight" definition. I didn't know it meant a period of 2 weeks. I wouldn't have known how the word was used. And I didn't know people from other countries said that word as everyday language. I love to learn and this makes me happy!! I would love to get braces. They definitely aren't in my budget right now. I will definitely research Invisalign if I am ever in the market. But thank you for sharing your experience :) whether or not I would get traditional or Invisalign would be determined on cost and how often I would need to see the orthodontist. Best wishes for everyone!!!
I soak my Invisalign trays in denture cleaner every morning and then brush them during the day after meals and such. Keep them clean super clean, they won't smell lol
I agree with everything except the bad breath or smell of the aligners. The pain switching aligners is annoying and my teeth be very sensitive. As for smell, it’s something I haven’t dealt with (yet). I make sure to brush and floss every time I eat, as well as waking up and heading to bed. I think it might help using a water flosser, regular floss oftentimes don’t get the food lodged all the way by your wisdom teeth. I also brush my Invisalign’s with toothpaste every morning and night, and I’ll use the cleaning crystals 2-3x a week. It might’ve also helped that I got my wisdom teeth removed right before Invisalign’s. Bad breath and wisdom teeth issues go hand and hand.
@@angeldominick9373 the only reason I know is because I watched a video on making the clear retainers which are the same thing as an invisalign and they file down sharp edges so you're welcome
Angel Dominick I’m also on Tray 1 of 19 and there only one tooth that feel uncomfortable on my gums. I didn’t check if there’s a nail file in my box. I only saw the “crystals”
@@j0nathan_r0gers it could be from different pplaces so different box set ups but nail files are really cheap at like dollar stores that you could get to help
These tips are so true! I have found orthodontic wax is amazing for smoothing over those sharp edges to stop pain and ulcers on my inner lip. Count your lucky stars you only have 38 aligners, I need 70 😩
Michelle Symes, I feel you. I need 56, which according to my app, I have "777 days to go to a perfect smile!" I am 59 years old. I wish I had the money to do this earlier. I've had crooked and crowded teeth all my life! I was bullied for the way my teeth look :(
@1986TruthSeeker should really consider Invisalign. honestly it's not that bad. we've had many patients actually prefer Invisalign at our office because you can take it out and clean your teeth properly. we actually tell most of our patients to choose Invisalign because of the comfort it provides.. let us know if you have any other questions. we'd be more than happy to help!
Thank you so much for your video. I've been researching Invisalign and am trying to save some money before I go ahead so the monthly payments aren't so difficult to make. No one else has mentioned the tooth filling before!!! I hope you are loving your new smile. I wish I'd got mine years ago!
I am 45 years old. I started tray 1 of 20 on February 1, 2019. My treatment is very aggressive and yes painful. I have a LOT of attachments. Sawing in between almost each tooth to ensure proper movement. A history of migraines as well (keep that in mind). That said - I can already notice a difference. My advice is to start your new tray right before bedtime. Soak your trays in Hydrogen peroxide for 15 minutes and brush them. Dry them as much as possible while you eat. Remember you absolutely cannot chew when wearing your trays. Only drink. At this point in my treatment I am no longer able to chew (ouch!) so I stick to nutrition drinks, cream of wheat, you get the idea. Take up a new hobby to keep your mind off the pain/soreness. And keep your mind's eye on the prize.... your winning smile 😁 $5,000 later 🤑🤑🤑
Wow!! How did it end up for you? I hope you got the perfect smile! I’m mid 40s, moderate crowding, 17 attachments, on week 2 of tray 1, and it hasn’t been bad at all!
I've had braces for close to two years since they were cheaper than invisalign but now I'm glad, I rarely had pain for more than 1 day after tightening, I eat as much as I did before and everything I use to, brushing my teeth didn't really change much and I don't need to worry about taking things off and on all the time. Although cons would be: things getting stuck obviously very visible but actually not many people notice sometimes the wire or brace rubs against your skin and causes ulcers
I really wish I had seen your video before I started. I got mine on Monday and it has been a rough few days. I still think it was the right choice for me, I just could have been better mentally prepared.
Along The River I just started my second tray which is the start of week 3. By a week and a few days I was just adjusting to tray 1. Still, I’m not sure how else to do this more subtly as an adult. I am just too vain for traditional braces.
I started Invisalign 8 weeks into my pregnancy and my goodness it’s been a struggle not being able to snack. I embarrassed myself while shopping, I decided to have a hot chocolate and went to the ladies room to quickly brush my teeth and I felt really judged. I didn’t spit into the sink (used a tissue and flushed it) and I used my own water from my water bottle. I think maybe because of the pandemic people might be uncomfortable so I won’t do that again.
You felt judged for brushing your teeth in a public restroom? I’m sorry you were treated that way! Did you wind up getting comfortable with brushing in public?
@@PeaceIsJesusChrist Hey there, I decided not to brush my teeth in a public restroom again after that. I ate at home to avoid needing to take my aligners off in public. I was able to take them off for longer towards the end of my treatment and eat in public and brush my teeth at home. I’ve completed my treatment now thankfully. I recently witnessed a young girl brushing her teeth in a Public Restroom with aligners though! 👌🏽😊
@@sharniletiya5380 That’s great that you figured out a way to work it out all out! I’m so glad! I will probably do the same just because it sounds like a hassle! I’ve brushed my teeth a few times in public restrooms when on road trips and before meeting up with people, and it’s awkward managing the needed tools, but people have always been nice (this was pre-pandemic), and one lady even commented, “What a good idea. I should start doing that!” LOL! I *only* did it, because I wanted to ensure I had fresh breath for the evening after driving all day! 😂 Thank you for commenting! 💕
I wish I knew •the first 3 days of having them hurt the worst •once u change ur tray they only hurt the first few days then ur teeth adapt to them •they start to stain a little even with good mouth hygiene •the attachments do start to hurt less
I wasn’t a candidate for invisaline because my teeth were quite bad but I actually prefer having “traditional” braces ! The pain is quite severe but I’d rather my teeth hurt a lot for maybe 3-4 days after getting then tightened rather than having to change the “trays” every week !
I got my dentist to file the edges, now I just do it myself. The big life saver though is orthodontic wax. I worked this out on my first set of aligners, the dentist said it wont stick but it does and I don't get any ulcers anymore, the one sold in boots in the best. Also, buy outie. It's a tool that hooks the aligners out, sold on Amazon, again another life saver.
I’m here on 11/30/18 and I’m getting them on 12/3/18 aka Monday (it’s Friday) and I had no idea how bad it hurt with how sensitive teeth I have... it seems like it will hurt a lot... but I’m happy cuz I didn’t find Much vids like this. Thanks lots and lots✌🏽
I got ceramic wire braces and love them can eat and drink whenever I want and there's not much ulcers (just tiny and very infrequent) as it does not scratch as much as metal braces
I’m on my second tray and I’m about to start my third. I’m not experiencing any discolouration or stinking at all, and I’m brushing them with toothpaste once a day (the other two times I use water), I soak them in those frizzy tablets every two weeks and I brush them. The instructions say to use toothpaste so I don’t get why people say not to use it, also they also stay fresh like that.
I agree the instructions do say but then the dentists will tell you otherwise and apparently it damages the plastic as well as not actually cleaning it because it’s made for teeth not plastic x
My dentist says to brush them when doing ur teeth or use like denture cleaner and its fine. They sell special cleaner but he was adamant its fine to use alternatives
Great video! Love your channel. Just tossed you a subscribe. You nailed one of the most critical aspects. Those attachments. Yes, they may seem annoying and irritating but as you said they are there for a reason. This is actually what sets apart Invisalign from the rest of the clear aligner companies. These attachments are actually meant to help straighten your teeth as it gives the aligners something to grab onto. It's quite a cool technology. I know this is a fairly old video, but how has your case come along so far???
One tip, they really smell after a few days, to prevent this I used polident denture cleaner on them and let them soak while I showered or while I ate, then brush them everyday with a soft toothbrush and some toothpaste fixed the problem for me and didn't harm the braces.
Hehe just got my invisalign today, and I also have to had teeth filing and electronic shaving. Thankfully, it just felt super weird, hearing the sanding in my teeth and seeing the tooth dust flying as they shaved the movement gaps.
I'm on my 6th week and sure didn't know about the filing between the teeth part of the process. I will make sure he numbs my whole mouth if that is what it takes because I do have low pain tolerance. My teeth get sore but very tolerable - some new trays cause more pain than others, but remind self that the pain means that the teeth are moving. Yes the plastic notches on the teeth feel odd; the only problem I have is that after brushing my teeth it feels like gunk still remains and so I am constantly brushing. So at what point did they start filing your teeth?
The easiest thing you can do for the sharpness is to take a pair of tweezers and bend (very slightly) the top of the brace away from your gumline so that it's not scratching anything! Worked wonders with my Invisalign. It'll also give you a little ledge to grip your nails onto when you're taking it off to eat or brush - so much easier than having to rip it out at a weird angle or sit there picking at it for a few minutes!
You're so sweet. Thank you for posting these great tips...making me think twice!! Sorry you've had to go through this. I wonder if it's much different with permanent braces?? Anyway...blessings on your journey!
it's a lot different because it's a lot easier to maintain your oral hygiene when you're using Invisalign. they perform similar tasks and Invisalign has gotten so good over the last few years that we actually recommend it to most of our patients instead of braces. braces are really hard to keep clean. invisalign you just have to take the trays out and clean them and your teeth.
it's actually much easier to keep your oral health in top shape using Invisalign. braces are hard to keep clean and are often extremely painful at the beginning of treatment. with Invisalign you can take the trays out when you're eating and you can brush and floss with relative ease. in regards to the technology, Invisalign has gotten so good over the last few years that 95% of our patients get Invisalign instead of braces. they have a lot of extremely good technology such as attachments that has really help Invisalign.
My case is mild and the ‘Pain’ from teeth lasts about 24 hours basically. You HAVE to fold down. Done it multiple times and worked best. Not sure how ppl with moderate or severe teeth issues deal with it
Thank you thank you for this video! I just had a consult today & was looking for practical info/experience in addition to what the orthodontist office told me.
Glad i did it, and am in my last month however the NONStOP constant aching of my teeth made me want to blow my brains out. I used tylenol and aspirin round the clock the first few days of putting in a new tray. And there is no snacking. Have the orthodontist prescribe you lydocaine to help numb your gums especially when putting in a new tray. It does help.
Thank you so much that helped a lot...and of course Invisalign is kinda invisible...but removing them in public places i guess would not be as pleasant...specially for school going students like me...
Omg same I’m scared that there gonna get yellow and people are gonna think I have yellow teeth and I’m scared of taking them out in school or in public
I've got invisalign at the moment and I honestly think if I knew then what I know now I probably would have gone with a fixed brace instead. I find them such a pain always having to take them out for meals and snacks (although I do eat less which is a bonus) and YES! Second the ulcers and the pain. Agh! Your teeth are looking lovely though. XXX
Braces actually rub against your lips and cheeks even worse. They say (whoever they are) that it goes away after the inside of your mouth toughens up. Who the hell wants tough lips and cheeks?
I will say braces are so much better I had invaslign and the pain is for about 3 days of the 7 as I needed to change then every week. They are uncomfortable and the eating is a problem as u can’t snack as much as they can only be out for 2 hours a day. I am now on braces and have only experienced the pain the first 2-3 days when I got them on but since then they have been fine as I get mine tightened every 6 weeks so I am pain free for around 5 and a half weeks before they are tightened then their is mild discomfort. Invisalign is only more expensive because the are invisable!!! They don’t tell you about the discomfort, the constant cutting of your tongue and pain that u endure when taking the out once you have put a new set in. I advise you to go for braces if you want a less hassle free and painless journey
What I wish I knew was how they’d make me nauseous sometimes. Not only because they go all the way to the back teeth but also bcuz your body knows theres something foreign in your mouth it keeps secreting saliva to try to digest that thing so that also contributes to nausea
I’m on Day 3 and currently regretting my choice of getting invisalign because of the struggle of removing them. I have a lot of attachments and even though i can remove the back easily, it gets stuck on my front teeth. I’m seriously considering never eating again until they come out. I’ve watched a lot of videos on how to remove them but still- they don’t come out and I’m starving !!
Rubbing on your gums gets better as your skin toughens up. Also I’ve only been wearing mine at night (as my treatment has had to pause halfway due to coronavirus) and i dont even feel the attachments anymore on my teeth. The biggest thing for me is still speech, when i first got them I couldn’t speak properly and i still cant speak perfectly after months of wearing them
Great video, thank you. PS: I saw you called your channel a “parenting vlog”… I thought you looked like you’re about 16 years old. Congrats! Young look for life!
Why nobody is talking about the plastic leaking of estrogenic chemical like that comes with all plastics in the market that can cause a lot of harm and hormone imbalances? A lot of studies are being done and we are talking about sucking on a plastic for 23 hours a day for about two years. I have been considering this treatment but I am really concerned of what is truly going to cost me. It just bothers me so much that nobody is talking about this so the manufacturer don't even feel pressure to make the product safer. The orthodontist even said that he can't guarantee and that if I am to pay I have to cope with all the risks.
Oh man first day with invisiline here! That filing things scared the hell out of me too! And yes it was so hard to take it out! And yes! Snack is not an option anore damn! And it hurts...
Unfortunately you need attachments otherwise your teeth won’t move. Unfortunately it’s just how it is. The more attachments the better your results will be. Do not use aligners that do not have attachments, your teeth will not move as predicted and can cause major issues down the line, including issues with your bite.
X_Nemo.Playz_X hi, this is me, 8 months later. I promise you this is all worth it. I had 10 more additional trays, for a total of 46-50 and believe me it was great I wear retainers now (invisaligns that keeps your teeth straights instead of moving them) for now, about 5 months now and my life have never been so simple. Don’t lose your invisalign, don’t eat gum, brush your teeth as OFTEN as you Can, and everything will turn out good!
X_Nemo.Playz_X The pain is great with the 3-4 first trays I think, but after it stop. Each time you change/switch trays, it hurts a bit on the first day. It’s not really about pain, it’s pressure. On the first day of wearing your. [number] tray, you feel a lot of pressure. Then the day after, it become supeeer loose. When it become loose, that mean your teeth shifted and moved (its a good thing!)
X_Nemo.Playz_X for real, don’t be scared/worried about the pain. I was really scared about it at first, then I realized it there was nothing at all. It is worth it and I 1000% recommand!!
hope some people see this comment!!! im having scans done January 8th, so I’ll most likely be getting Invisalign in February. I have to have 1 band, because I have a super weird tooth and it’s supposed to fix it as well as the tooth colored attachments on a couple teeth. What portable toothbrushes do you recommend for travel or if I’m not home? Does Invisalign hurt more or less than braces? Is it a different type of discomfort/pain? Will I have a retainer for more than a year? My appointment wasn’t super long so I didn’t get to ask a ton of questions, hopefully someone here can answer before I have my scans!
Use a nail file to remove the rough edges that poke into your lip or gums. It's not really the best solution, but the only one I'm aware of to avoid the edges from poking into soft tissue...
And to get them out more easily, pull the back inner edge (by your molars) down on the top tray....and up when trying to remove the bottom tray....first one back edge and then the other. It is not intuitive, but it is MUCH easier than trying to pull from the sides or front. It also did not seem to put as much pressure on the front teeth, which is a problem that I initially had.
Thank you for the great information. I will be looking into invisalign or braces after some other tooth issues are taken care of. I am wondering if you can get any sleep if you have to wear them for 22 hours. What time did you, or any other viewers, take them out and then put them back in? Also, I probably did not understand - do you keep them IN to eat and remove them after eating to clean them and the teeth, or do you remove them before eating? Why is snacking at least once or twice a day difficult if all you have to do is remove them (if you remove them)? Is it because of the hassle of cleaning again? People have mentioned that they are so hungry, which I would hate, so couldn't one occasionally remove them before or after snacking (if dying of hunger)?
Yes you have to wear them in your sleep. And yes you have to take them out EVERY TIME you eat. That can be hard especially if you want a snack because they can hurt when being taken off. Also its hard to do so if your in a public setting like school
Read all these posts especially from people who have had both. Invisalign is a lot of trouble. Must remove them to eat and drink. Cleaning is essential.
I’m getting them in a week. I have to get a new tray each week. My case is pretty bad that braces would be easier but for stress purposes I have to get Invisalign
RoseBabe well, you should have got the ceramic braces. Invisalign is stressful as well, especially for difficult cases plus they work better and quicker results than Invisalign. Any failure could be fixed immediately whereas Invisalign you start your treatment all over again and extends the process. Eventually at the end you still need adjustments so again attachments and waiting for new treatment traces and so on. Pain and bruising is the same as braces plus tongue ulcers a lot which you don’t have with braces. I wish I knew all these as well before paying 5600euros for Invisalign compared to 3400 euros braces
Iulia Spanu well I already have them and my teeth are terribly awful, they barely hurt and are easy to care for. Invisalign allows the ortho to move the teeth every way they want.
I have invisalign now and I use braces wax for those sharp edges because filing didn't work for me. The thing I didn't really expect was the bite train, my teeth don't quite come together like they used to when my mouth is closed. I guess it's to fix my overbite. Also I'm thirsty all the time. Even with constantly drinking water. Some days the eating pain is more manageable than others. I have to have a lot of movement out too, I had extractions done so my teeth are extra sensitive and receptive to moving.
I already had "normal" braces but afterwards my teeth moved again. So I think about getting invisalign to correct this again. They don't look that "bad" as yours, but when I asked my dentist she said it might take about 2 years, which sounded very much to me, especially because I had my normal braces in for about 2,5 years and before that my teeth really didn't look straigth, I would think about a little bit more straight like your teeth in this video. So I wanted to ask you how long you needed to wear them since this video to maybe get some experience in how long it takes, because I think my dentist just said this number as a general number she would say to everybody just to stay save. Greetings from Germany
Hi, does it work if I'm 20?
How much did it cost for you?
I can't have normal braces bc I have marks on my teeth that would get worse and make my teeth fall out of get sick. Whare as with Invisaligns that doesn't do that
@Giff Tees I'm sorry but I'm 11 and I did not choose to get Invisaligns. My dentist said that was the only way for me to have braces. I can't do traditional bc of my teeth
Get a nail file and file the top so it doesn’t scratch you lip. It doesn’t make it worse. It’s advised by Invisalign.
Ok thank you!
Yeah when you file your nails you don't make them sharper do you, you round off the edges. Definitely made it easier for me.
i use tiny scissors used for nails
Wow I didn't know it was advised by them. I just used one thinking I was clever haha.
I just got my Invisalign and I’m in SO MUCH pain right now. I actually thought something was wrong until I came across this video.
Solutions for problems:
Stink - soak in Hydrogen peroxide briefly
Rough Edges - Use a Dremel or a file to assist with rough edges
Diet - Intermittent fasting, don't eat so much
use a sonic jewelry cleaner with retainer or brace cleaner - that helps a lot.
I so agree with you Dr. Zufall! I was actually thinking of recommending this video to my orthodontist to share with his patients!
Dont forget that some people need 9. bite ramps and in rare cases, 10. TADs
I wish I knew:
•They start to stink after a couple days
•Since your teeth are moving, theyre loose and they hurt like they did when you were 6 and were losing your baby teeth. It makes it hurt to eat.
•The constant brushing is annoying
•People can tell you have it when you wear attachments, bands and you talk with a lisp (because of the aligners)
•They start to color white and get cloudy after a couple days even with daily cleaning of the aligners (2x a day, with toothbrush and toothpaste)
•The edges cut your tongue and the inside of your lip and give you ulcers
Awesome Chocolate did you brush your teeth everytime you ate? they shouldn't stink
Also, use dish soap to wash them. The toothpaste is too strong.
Allen Corona never wash your aligners with dish soap it has chemicals that could ruin them
Famous Celebrity In Disguise tbey say not to wash the aligners with toothpaste. Wash them with antibacterial soap
Brianna Castillo I
If you brush and FLOSS properly before going to sleep as well as washing your tray with water and liquid SOAP... everything will stay clean and no terrible morning breath at all.
Thank you I feel like I still have morning breath no matter how much soap i use haha! x
LucieAndTheBump I’m a dentist and a patient, I can assure you, if you floss and brush properly, as well as cleaning the tray... the bacterial load it’s would be to low to cause “terrible” bad breath.
sel26 You’re not a dentist so shut up
sofia celedon You can use soap to clean
sofia celedon my orthodontist and the actual company Invisalign said you can use soap.
I felt the same way.
It definitely changes the way you snack!!
mortic0n same and im getting invisaligns in a week and im lowkey scared
I've had mine for a little over 24 hours and the no snacking might be the death of me 😭 lol
morticOn I wish I had gotten regular braces.
Thats so good :)
StephSquared same! Just a couple of days of tenderness’
StephSquared - agree with what you say. I'm only on tray 4 of 30 but only need to change trays weekly instead of fortnightly. No sores, no smell, tender for 2-3 days. No weight loss either 😕 I just eat more when trays are out.
i can barely get mine off because the attachments
Same here!! I’ve had such a good experience with Invisalign
I am looking into Invisalign for my son who may be close to your age. Thank you for being so real and putting yourself out there, it isn’t easy. I think your kindness and willingness to help others sets you apart from the rest. I hope that I will be able to instill in my two little girls the same strength and beauty you reflect.
Invisalign is an awesome treatment option for kids!
I'd better not go through it at all.
Thanks for sharing. I'm a dentist. It's nice to hear a patient be candid about their experience with invisible braces. I will be sure to warn my patients!
I’ve really noticed the difference in your teeth, they look amazing! I had train track braces for years when I was younger but these look so good x
I came here for Invisalign tips and now I’m so into your personality!!
You are beautiful!
Also, I’m really excited to get the first set!!!!
You are so kind thank you!
These are the things I wish I knew~
-they kinda start to smell near the end of the week even if you brush them and stuff.
-they hurt like heck and you feel like a 7yo losing your teeth
-there is food EVERYWHERE and you wont be able to have it
-they arent invisible its probably different for others because i have a lot of attachments and also rubber bands, however pretty much everyone can tell i have them so unless your problem is really simple you have to know they're not completely inconspicuous.
-whatever you think, they're grosser than you think...
Id honestly rather them than real braces, real braces just seem absolutely disgusting to me and have waaaaay more possible side effects
@@klumppunkslut1660 I agree 1000%
I got braces before Invisalign, and as much as it may hurt, you are definitely getting the better option.
Okay that’s good. I’m getting Invisalign in a week and I’ve already had braces
@@leilacope6948 is ur retainer permanent or is that only for some ppl
I work with invisalign and use an Emery board to help with the sharpness. We recommend this to our patients. It's totally fine. :)
Is the retainer permanent for everyone or just some people?
been successfully changing trays every 5 days, have had invisalign for about six months now, here's my advice:
-you really truly don't have to brush your teeth every time you eat, you can just give your mouth a rinse as well as your invisalign and call it a day
-if you decide to drink/eat something, you can also literally just let your saliva wash out your mouth for about 20 or so minutes if you don't want to brush/rinse, that's what saliva is for!
-brush your teeth, floss, AND use mouthwash in that order every single day or you're going to regret it
-rather than cleaning your invisalign with toothpaste, just use soap! liquid soap works best, don't use too much and brush with your toothbrush! that way your aligners don't get cloudy and gross
-try to keep them on as much as possible so you're in pain for less time
-if after a few days they still hurt a lot, especially if it's hurting a few specific teeth, take ur invisalign off and bite down a bit, after like 5 minutes, it should ease your discomfort
This is a very helpful video, Lucie! I'm considering Invisilign and now I have a better list of questions for the orthodontist.
Am I the only one who’s never had any pain or discomfort my whole treatment
I don’t feel any pain. I’m on tray number 5th and I can already see a difference :)
You’re not. No pain for me either, very comfortable
Might be because you wear them well, you wear them whenever you can and take care of the inviaslign
@@Miss.maracuja mine just been tight however I see the difference and it’s my 2 nd tray
I definitely notice a big difference in your teeth Hun all the pain and discomfort will be worth it in the end!! 💕💕
Thank you, Lucie, for taking the time to answer my question.
I only have pain when I take my trays out to eat. I eat soft food for the first few minutes. They don't hurt at all when the trays are in
Someone said you get a narrower jaw, longer face and deep wrinkles from Invisalign. Is that true?
eakpala18 No. that’s asinine for so many different reasons, I don’t even know where to begin.
I read somewhere that using a latex glove to remove them makes it a lot easier and you won’t break your nails 😃 I tried it and it works.
Take note people cos Lucy's explanation of invisalign is exactly right but worth the months of slight discomfort x
They aren't cheap but have been so amazing!
For the rubbing on the lips/gums you can use a nail file and smooth it down
So I just got my Invisalign today and I was wondering why they put a nail filer in my set. Thanks for this: lol
@@angeldominick9373 the only reason I know is because I watched a video on making the clear retainers which are the same thing as an invisalign and they file down sharp edges so you're welcome

Thank you so much for your video. I've been researching Invisalign and am trying to save some money before I go ahead so the monthly payments aren't so difficult to make. No one else has mentioned the tooth filling before!!! I hope you are loving your new smile. I wish I'd got mine years ago!
after 4 years , did you get the aligners? did they work? also how old are you, i am 26 nd planning to get invisalign and implants
I wish I had seen this before I got mine. I would have been more prepared. Glad I'm not the only one !
i literally just got mine today. i only have 5 trays/sets. im in for a treat. :)
How did it go
I've had braces for close to two years since they were cheaper than invisalign but now I'm glad, I rarely had pain for more than 1 day after tightening, I eat as much as I did before and everything I use to, brushing my teeth didn't really change much and I don't need to worry about taking things off and on all the time.
Although cons would be:
things getting stuck
obviously very visible but actually not many people notice
sometimes the wire or brace rubs against your skin and causes ulcers
Brian A summed it up perfectly lol I did ceramic braces and no one notices!
@@Forevermally ceramic braces gives this weird impression that it looks like there's something in your mouth but can't be certain haha

How is it going after a week? Do you recommmend it (i am 37)

•the attachments do start to hurt less
Another super video, thank you. Good luck with your Invisalign, I’m sure you are seeing great progress already.
I'm doing invisalign now :') it's so painful hahaha
They really are, cause they are tight and kinda press your teeth very hard
Oh no don't tell me that, I am about to get them.
@@dharris6106 once you put them on, you have a 35% chance of loosing all your teeth
P no you don’t.....
@@juliam3198 yes you do
Thank you for this video. I'm considering getting Invisalign. So, now I know what to expect.
Thank you for posting this video! I just got my invisilign and I am already experiancing the begining side effects. I hope it all worth it.
Is it worth it ? I received mine yesterday. I’m nervous about the removal, do you think putting Vaseline in my teeth will help ?
I personally only have pain the first two days on my trays. And also if you want to file them, ask your ortho and they will do it!
Me too . I had braces before and I think it hurts way more than my Invisalign . I guess each casa is different
Thankfully, it just felt super weird, hearing the sanding in my teeth and seeing the tooth dust flying as they shaved the movement gaps.
i’m getting mine in a little more than a month, i’ll have to change them out every 2 weeks :)
I started getting my teeth filed down day 1
The easiest thing you can do for the sharpness is to take a pair of tweezers and bend (very slightly) the top of the brace away from your gumline so that it's not scratching anything!
For easing tooth pain use tooth paste for sensitive teeth helps a lot
Acrylic nails make taking them out way easier 😉
Glad i did it, and am in my last month however the NONStOP constant aching of my teeth made me want to blow my brains out. I used tylenol and aspirin round the clock the first few days of putting in a new tray. And there is no snacking. Have the orthodontist prescribe you lydocaine to help numb your gums especially when putting in a new tray. It does help.
I had Invisalign for two years it didn't hurt at all, didn't hurt during first few days too
Thank you so much that helped a lot...and of course Invisalign is kinda invisible...but removing them in public places i guess would not be as pleasant...specially for school going students like me...
Omg same I’m scared that there gonna get yellow and people are gonna think I have yellow teeth and I’m scared of taking them out in school or in public
Just rinse them in the bathroom and rinse your mouth as well.. I only clean them with soap when I brush my teeth
I thought it was just me who thought they were soooo painful. I had to give up😭
I've got invisalign at the moment and I honestly think if I knew then what I know now I probably would have gone with a fixed brace instead. I find them such a pain always having to take them out for meals and snacks (although I do eat less which is a bonus) and YES! Second the ulcers and the pain. Agh! Your teeth are looking lovely though. XXX
i really dont know why so many people have pain wearing invisalign, it does not hurt me a bit, am i just lucky or you way too sensitive?
I mean I never had ulcers other then the first 3 days I never had pain pain mmm everyone different
Braces actually rub against your lips and cheeks even worse. They say (whoever they are) that it goes away after the inside of your mouth toughens up. Who the hell wants tough lips and cheeks?
@@ostschnaller you probably have a roomy mouth. The pain is really nothing and doesn't last long. 😁
I totally agree with you!!! I would prefer the regular braces if I had known. Had regular ones in my early teens. Was a no-brainer.
Oh sh*t I get mine in 22 days... And now I cant snack because I'm lazy.
Lol. I got mine this morning.
I'm starving because I'm too lazy to take them out before morning
She looks like Leah from Teen Mom 2!
I have someone honestly I wish I didn't. I know it's going to turn out nice at the end but my teeth really hurt
Devin Symone remember it’s less painful than braces!
Do you take painkillers?
You can defiantly see changes, they are going to look amazing hun!!! A great video for those looking to get these braces. Loving your top xx
Celine Strand same!!! I can’t get it off the front!!
First day today and my teeth ache already lol. Hanging in there 🦊👍
Rubbing on your gums gets better as your skin toughens up.
Haha thank you
I just got mine and on my 2nd tray of 30, and those attachments are very irritating....I feel you on that
Why nobody is talking about the plastic leaking of estrogenic chemical like that comes with all plastics in the market that can cause a lot of harm and hormone imbalances?
Don't worry you will get used to them quick! x
Unfortunately you need attachments otherwise your teeth won’t move. Unfortunately it’s just how it is. The more attachments the better your results will be. Do not use aligners that do not have attachments, your teeth will not move as predicted and can cause major issues down the line, including issues with your bite.
I had 36 trays and only the 3 first trays hurt. After it was painless
X_Nemo.Playz_X hi, this is me, 8 months later.
I promise you this is all worth it. I had 10 more additional trays, for a total of 46-50 and believe me it was great
I wear retainers now (invisaligns that keeps your teeth straights instead of moving them) for now, about 5 months now and my life have never been so simple.
X_Nemo.Playz_X to make it even mlre simple :
the real pain, go after like, the 3-4 first trays. Then, it’s all about pressure [when you switch trays].
X_Nemo.Playz_X for real, don’t be scared/worried about the pain. I was really scared about it at first, then I realized it there was nothing at all. It is worth it and I 1000% recommand!!
X_Nemo.Playz_X No problem! You can always ask questions here. And don’t forget, the pain is inexistant, results matter more! xx
have a great day
Really informative video! I have invisalign too and it's one of the best things I did
hope some people see this comment!!!
im having scans done January 8th, so I’ll most likely be getting Invisalign in February.
Ummm not doing this - i am old already, like snacking and just have a cosmetic issue. good video.

I'm getting mine next week. You are adorable... I
Debbie Boatwright can you give a 1 year review?
I have invisalign now and I use braces wax for those sharp edges because filing didn't work for me. The thing I didn't really expect was the bite train, my teeth don't quite come together like they used to when my mouth is closed. I guess it's to fix my overbite. Also I'm thirsty all the time. Even with constantly drinking water. Some days the eating pain is more manageable than others. I have to have a lot of movement out too, I had extractions done so my teeth are extra sensitive and receptive to moving.
Thanks Lucie, I plan on getting them soon!
Hi!
I just received my Invisalign today, and I'm going to have mine for 34 weeks
And invisilign says that it doesn’t disrupt your social life...
What if you go to school? When would you brush or where??
You know what I wish I new before getting invisaglin? Getting a better dentist to trust my process. Anyway good video
Did you do IPR where they use that disk in between your teeth to shave them to make space because I didn't know if that made your teeth sensitive?
Yessss
