Hi, I got my clear aligners yesterday and since then I've been watching your videos all over again. Very informative and helpful. 1st tray/46. I am using now your Trayminder App.😊 Thank you.
Excellent video. I’m struggling with how to attach the elastics, and I didn’t realize until a few months into treatment that these were absolutely necessary for correcting my bite. Your video on attaching the elastics was helpful, and I’ll figure it out with practice. The turkey in the oven analogy was also a good way of explaining how aligners work. Good to know that NSAIDs slow tooth movement. I occasionally take Aleve for muscle pain, but will switch to Tylenol.
Wow! So glad I came across your video. I will be starting my Invisalign trays in the next couple of weeks. My orthodontist also said at some point I will have banding. I’m sure that when I meet with him early next week, I will be much more knowledgeable and relaxed. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this information!! My orthodontist used rubber bands to fix my overbite, and later made a different design to close it down once it was corrected, and this just made it more clear when it comes to the differences.
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9) - “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16) - “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”(Jeremiah 29:11)
Thank you for the great videos. I started my clear in house aligner treatment 4 weeks ago. I have a very deep bite along with crowding on the bottom teeth. My first treatment is 14 trays on the top and 18 trays on the bottom. No rubber bands in the first treatment, but my Dr. said I will more than likely have to use rubber bands. Do you have a video explaining how the rubber bands actually work and how it permanently changes the bite? Thanks!
I had two refinements where my ortho had them set up for rubber band wear but every visit I kept being told I didn’t need them so I was never given elastic and now here I am on yet another refinement set to strictly fix my bit and some minor molar adjustments with elastics finally
It definitely can be hard to attach. I’m sure you’re already a pro at it with practice, but just in case, this newest video may help: ruclips.net/video/K2r5p_xkqak/видео.html
I just got elastics today so I’m rewatching this video! Thanks so much. My ortho didn’t tell me how often so that’s good to know I should change it 4x day. Another thing, I get migraines quite frequently and the only thing that works for me is ibuprofen. I take it 3-4x a week. How great is the risk for my treatment to be affected? Thanks for another great video!
You’re welcome. I’m glad the elastic video was helpful. Regarding ibuprofen, if that’s what’s helping your migraines, then your comfort trumps tooth movement. You’re right that NSAIDS, like ibuprofen, slow down tooth movement.
I just started invisalign for an open bite and my next appointment they're adding on attachments and I'll need elastics too, im just excited to finally be able to close up my open bite, hopefully invisalign can fully fix it. Thanks for the video.
@@TrayMinder I have been using Clear Correct liners with attachments for 4 months changing trays every 10 days for an anterior open bite. After 2 months my trays were not fitting tight enough on my lateral incisors so they sent me different sets and decreased the amount of attachments. I have 3 more trays then will be done and my open bite has not closed AT ALL, it actually has opened more. Before I couldnt stick my tongue between my front 4 top & bottom teeth, now I can. Also my lateral incisors are super short & this current tray has them super bloody along the gum line. Its all in my trays. Do you know why or have any suggestions on what I should do? My dentist is on vacation for a week.
This video was so informative and professional! Thank you! If you read this, I do have a question. Are rubber bands ever used for helping rotations of rounder teeth (like the premolars) with clear aligners?
Thank you for spending your valuable time educating people. These videos are so entertaining and enlightening. I have a question about bands as I am having trouble with them breaking constantly. They are 1/4 inch and do not feel too tight so I thought there may be rough edges on the buttons. My provider has ordered me a larger size. I went online and researched it for myself and decided on this strategy. I ordered two sizes up but a heavy version. I figure that will help if there are rough edges still. I was wearing two bands to bed so that when I woke up I would hopefully have one remaining.
Thanks for your nice comment. The top reasons for elastics breaking are: not changing them often enough (ideally 3x a day), excessive stretching (singing, yawning, etc), defective or old bag of elastics, or sharp attachment point on the button or elastic hook.
Thank you so much! I just got my first tray last night and woke up with sore teeth. My Ortho has a similar approach to you in that he will put in the bands on the second tray allowing me to get used to having a constant foreign object in my mouth from the first tray. I have 63 trays in total and quite nervous about how painful it’s going to be especially when the elastics are put in :( just want to follow the rules to the T so this process can be done with
Thanks. It sounds like you are off to a good start. There will be some adjustment period to elastics but most patients do just fine. Like anything new in life, the beginning is the hardest. Best luck to you :)
@@trawlerkent9101 very good, was tough when they put the buttons in, but I got used to it. Take your time and be patient at first, you will also get used to it
Hi Dr. Bailey! Thank you for the very informative video :) I was just wondering why my orthodontist recommended I wear my elastic only at night (for ten hours each day)? I am using unilateral rubber bands only on one side for reference... Thank you!!
Hi Dr. Bailey. First of all I love your videos. Very informative. I have a question. In addition to moving teeth side to side with rubber bands, do rubber bands also pull teeth downwards from top and vice versa when rubber bands are connected from top teeth to bottom teeth?
You’re a hero! Do you think it’s possible to fix a midline if a patient has TMJ with skeletal asymmetry on one side? I’m so self conscious of how my lower teeth/jaw shifts toward one side more due to my more bone growth on my TMJ side
Thank you. Depending on the number of mm of midline shift, it may be possible to fix your dental midline by shifting the teeth within the bone, via clear aligners/braces with elastics. However, orthodontics alone, cannot correct skeletal asymmetry (ie deviation of mandible to one side due to uneven growth or the like). It will involve orthodontics combined with orthognathic surgery. Truth to be told, most of us have some skeletal and soft tissue asymmetry. However, if it is bothersome to you, then it’s definitely worth it to get an orthodontic consultation. Orthodontists are trained in dentofacial orthopedics and can guide you through the process.
I started treatment 2 months ago And now am on my 5th tray My dentist just introduced me to those idk if he forgot to do so before or what But we started with 1 botton on one side am not sure if he will but more next month But my only issue now is that my lips get dry and naturally ur tongue would lick ur lips when u feel them go dry and i cant do that since the rubber and restrict get in the way i feel like they will snap if i open any bit wider Any advices Thank you, these videos u guys make to put for us are really helpful bc our doctors are poor at doing their patient educational job so am very grateful for those videos and comment sections
Hi, what you’re describing is quite normal. Dry lips is definitely one of the annoying things that can happen. Saliva actually dries out your lips more. Carrying a chapstick around and drinking lots of water is helpful for general hydration. The Cereve healing ointment (not a chapstick but can be used all over the body) is very moisturizing for the lips and surrounding skin areas.
Usually elastics are used to correct mild to moderate class II or III bites. Sometimes IPR is sufficient for very mild cases and jaw surgery for very severe cases.
I have to wear my elastics on the left side for 22 hours and my right side only at night. Can you please explain why? Would love your perspective. Thank you for your videos!
I wonder what my rubber band placement is called? 🤔 I have hooks on the inside of my top molars linking rubber bands to the outside of my bottom molars to correct my crossbite.
Just want to say thank you! Thank you so much! I am from Germany and I am really glad I found your videos. They are really helpful ❤️ I just wondered about the non-latex elastics. I wear them, because I couldn't wear some with latex. And I should wear them only at night. Are they as effective as the ones with latex? I didn't manage to ask my orthodontist but I will do that asap.
Based on research findings, non-latex elastics lose more force (compared to regular elastics) after the first hour and continue to lose more force overtime. Therefore, it is best to replace your elastics after each meal to maintain a more constant force. All things being equal, regular elastics are preferable to non latex ones, assuming you’re not allergic to latex. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19911618/
@@TrayMinder Thank you for the answer! Then I am really sad because of my allergical reactions on the elastics with latex, but I hope it'll be fine. Thanks! :)
Glad the video was helpful. The best way to find out what’s right for you is to visit a local orthodontist. They will examine you clinically and give you your options. Most initial consultations are free of charge. Good luck! 🍀
I was in the Same situation but he is going to fix my crossbite with rubberbands. I had a malocclusion but my teeth shifted and my overbite is closed in. Getting invisalign braces was the best that could of happened to me. Before I got them I was shy in talking. But now im talking up a storm.my cross.bite is offbut everything else is good I.chew my food.better.and that part only took like 4 months in Jan we will work on crossbite.he is going to use rubberbands.i.might have to wear additional trays but your orthondontonist have made everyone with crossbites appearance better.so he or she is specialized and will get you right.
I don't get it... my doc never suggested rubber bands and now I'm dealing with a posterior open bite. So I'm sure I need to fix my bite and I want to fix my bite or make sure its alright now. Thanks I'll mention these concerns with my doc
Hi Dr. Bailey, after my treatment ends, will I have to wear rubber bands for the rest of my life, similar to how people have to wear their retainer every night for the rest of their life?
This was super helpful, thank you so much! I was recommended Invisalign with elastics, and was wondering how this would affect me at work, since I sometimes have to talk for a couple hours at a time in presentations. How difficult with this be with the elastics in?
Thanks for your comment. Elastics are quite manageable with speech, it just takes a little bit of getting used to. I recommend not starting right away, wait 2-3 weeks to get use to your aligners first. Of course, follow the advice of your orthodontist. Good luck with your treatment!
Hi I got class 2 elastics on my right side but on my left side I'm missing the molar where the elastic would go so my dentist placed it on the tooth next to it. Is this common for patients who are missing teeth?
I have the triangle but it’s way bigger than the one you show. It’s got like three metal hooks on every other tooth on the bottom and hooks to my canine on the top. I assume this is to fix my cross bite
Thanks, Doctor Bailey, for this informative video. I just got my rubber bands today and how they’re hooked is that at my bottom molars, the buttons are attached on the inside (tongue side) while at the top, the buttons are attached on the outside (cheek side). So the bands hook from inside (bottom) out (top). My orthodontist said it’s to open my bite because my bottom jaw teeth grew inwards, causing overcrowding (from wisdom teeth pushing against my other teeth). What class of rubber bands is this?
I’m not sure if there’s a name for that one. It’s for correction of buccal cross bites (as opposed to lingual cross bite, which is more common). If you don’t have a true buccal cross bite, it’s used for uprighting of your lower molars so that they are not so leaned lingually (lingual=tongue side). When molars are upright, they stand taller and thus have a bite opening effect.
Aloha! Thank you for such entertaining and informative videos, teeth are so important. Do you recommend a dentist in Hawaii (Oahu), that can perform these services? Mahalo

I started treatment in Dec. 2020. I had 28 original trays and I completed 24 of them until I was told I needed to be rescanned and set up for rubber bands. I’ve always had an overbite and I really wish I had the rubber bands through the first set of treatment :( now I have 20 more trays to go with rubber bands. My ortho said to change them when I brush my teeth in the morning and at night. So now I figure I should be changing them more often? So every 6 hours? Very informative video thank you so much!
Hi. Thanks for the video. I just started invisalign treatment 2 weeks ago. My ortho told me to wear the rubber bands only 12 hours a day. I have a class 3 (crossbite). Do you think i need to wear them 22 hours a day?
Bone structure does not change with elastics. This video may be helpful: TRUTHS ABOUT INVISALIGN ELASTICS: What they can and cannot fix l Dr. Melissa Bailey, Orthodontist ruclips.net/video/HrspOOtKyec/видео.html
It’s difficult to say, without having access to any orthodontic records. All things being equal, clear aligners are easier to close spacing due to less potential for gingival (gum) bunching from gingivitis (more common with braces).
How often should elastics be changed? My dentist told me to switch them out every 4 hours. But I only switch them 3 times a day after I eat because I go through a bag of 100 in one month.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Some plans are limited treatment for alignment only and some are comprehensive treatment, designed to correct the bite and the alignment.
I’m really confused why my orthodontist has me wearing my bands from the top molars to the front teeth. I have an overbite and my lower teeth are curled in. Why would they be moving them even further back? Additionally, it took me an hour to get my rubber bands in on the first night. Just not seeing or understanding the value of the time investment.
So I guess having soreness is not a bad thing. My orthodontist tells me to wear each set of aligners for at least 7 days, If I still have soreness on the 7th day of wearing the aligner, should I still change it as the schedule, or I should wear it for a few more days?
Your orthodontist determines your switch schedule based on a number of factors. Generally, you should not switch aligners if your teeth are not tracking or you haven’t worn your aligners for the prescribed number of hours. Here’s a helpful video to explain: m.ruclips.net/video/8_g5In421zs/видео.html
Is there a way to tell from your Invisalign Clincheck that elastics will be required? It looks like it only shows attachments on mine but I have an overbite.
Some clin checks will show attachments, elastic cuts, etc and some won’t. It depends on what your doctor checks or not checks when sharing the plan with you. It’s best to ask them directly.
I dont mind wearing the rubber band (I only have it on one side) but since I've switched over to the stronger version(medium rather than light), it keeps slipping off. I mean 20 or 30 times a day. It will come off when I'm talking, yawning or even not doing anything except watching TV! I even wake up in the morning to find that it has come off during the night while I slept...I think the metal knob that it goes around is too small for the thicker version and I'm a bit worried that it's going to extend my treatment even though I'm very good about always wearing my aligners and the rubber band. :(
That’s not uncommon. Contact your ortho to see what they advise. Generally the the amount of time you wear elastics is more important than the strength of the elastics. Going back to the light elastics for the time being is probably wise to do. Great job for wearing your elastics though. Your comment shows that you’re committed. Kudos to you.
I’m getting Invisalign to correct my overbite and some crowding on my lower teeth. Also have a small, tucked in chin with TMJ. Hot mess without the hotness. Will the overbite correction make my chin more pronounced? I’m hoping so! Thanks!
That’s a good question. Yes, in some cases, decreasing the overjet (top teeth sticking too far out) can make the upper lip come back a bit, which can make the chin appear to be less set back. This is more often seen with upper premolar extractions.
@@TrayMinder thanks for the quick reply! I was thinking that the bands would move my jaw forward and down a little bit to give me a corrected bite. I will not be getting any teeth/molars removed. Is there something, aside from jaw surgery, that I should speak to my ortho about regarding my ‘chin’ concerns? I’ll be with Invisalign for 2 years, so for that long of a period, I want to make sure I end up with an improvement all around. Thanks again!
I have a rubber band that I attach to my top right canine and my bottom left canine along with a class two on the left and a class three on the right. Does that center rubber band attachment also help to align my midline?
This was helpful! I just started Invisalign about a week ago and I have a bottom tray and a class 2 band on the left side that is connected to a bar like thing that goes all the way to my back molar. I’m supposed to keep it just like this for three months and I was sort of wondering why but I guess it’s because of my bite.
My ortho never mentioned the bands even tough my visit was about correcting my bite. I’m currently on tray 17 of 50 and will see him for tray 21. Is it too late to ask of him to add the rubber bands?
Hi Dr. Bailey, Are TAD’s effective in correcting an occlusal cant in conjunction with Invisalign aligners? Also, would the trays require modification if the patient requested TAD’s mid-course or would a new set need to be ordered instead?
TADs can be very effective and sometimes necessary in conjunction with CAT. Your orthodontist will figure out if new aligners are necessary. Sometimes cutouts can be done on your existing trays to accommodate.
Yes, you’re right that some upper lip support via upper incisor positioning is helpful for some people (and a negative for others). It all depends on many factors like jaw structure, bite, teeth size/shape/position, soft tissue profile and size, etc.
My ortho said I have a overbite and deep but put bands ,class III (lower canine, upper molar) on the right side, my midline on my top teeth are shifted to the right while my lower teeth are centered correctly. I’m not sure why is there any reasoning?does this make sense or should I change orthodontists?
I have braces, but missing back teeth, I have a overbite, but my Ortho is trying to find a way to pull it back since I can't use the normal method, will rubber bands work?
That's a great question. Pulling teeth back requires anchorage, either from back molars, lower arch, or TADs. Speak to your orthodontist about the best way to correct your bite.
Do all orthodontists that serve Invisalign, use elastics? I'm looking to correct bite on top of straightening teeth but don't see it on any ortho's websites. Do you recommend any in the East Bay Area, California that can accomplish this?
Orthodontist will recommend the use of elastics if it is appropriate for your specific case. You can find a local orthodontist here: www.aaoinfo.org/locator or www.americanboardortho.com/general-public/orthodontist-locator/
My left side doesnt touch the top to bottom. My dentist doesn't like to use rubber bands. Are rubber bands the only want to get the teeth to touch? I'm currently waiting for my refinement trays but she never mentioned rubber bands.
Good question. It depends on your initial midline discrepancy. A combination of elastic wear and/or IPR can help correct mild midline discrepancies that are not due to missing teeth and/or skeletal asymmetry/deviations. An orthodontist is the best person to evaluate and advise.
I started my Invisalign journey last week im wearing Class II elastics on my left side and the button on my canine where the elastic hooks is cutting my lip and is very painful specially when I talk. What can I do to make it feel better? I will be wearing the elastics for 7 months and I’m getting discouraged because of how painful it is. Any tips will be very appreciated.
Im currently doing vertical elastics (triangle one) cause one of the top tooth is not touching the bottom tooth. my dentist attached these metal buttons on my teeth and advised me not to wear my trays while the elastics are in (for ~3weeks) is this normal?
I just started treatment. I have a class three bite and man the elastics are such a pain to put on! My Invisalign case came with cleaning crystals... What are these?
does using more gravity power rubber bands increase the movement speeds? of course, teeth will tend to retain their natural moving speeds but im wondering if the added power will put in some more support (was lazy about bands for a few weeks and ended up delaying my next trays). btw Doc. is hot. wonderful smile too
Thanks for watching and great question. Light continuous forces are best so stick with your regular elastics. Some orthos may increase the force level of the elastics after a certain period of time so feel free to ask him/her whether you’re a good candidate. Good luck with your treatment.
It seems I have a Class 3. I have 2 rubber bands with my aligners that go from the back molers up top to the bottom canine teeth (One on each side) and 43 trays. How long do people usually have to wear the rubber bands?
Yes, sounds like you have class 3 elastics. The more you wear them, the faster you get to finish. It’s like weight loss - how long depends on where you started and how hard you work.
This is very difficult. My doctor has placed buttons in the inside of my mouth apart from those on the top. Both of these bottom buttons (inside the mouth) have broken off. Plus the elastics keep breaking. Thinking of discontinuing the treatment
Sorry to hear that it’s been a rocky start for you. Hang in there, as the little kinks will eventually be worked out. Remember that new things always feel uncomfortable in our bodies. Give it some time and feel free to send an update on your progress.
Thank you for the video! I have one question - at first appointment my orthodontist told me I need rubber bands also, but she saw that I didn´t like the idea of getting them. Next time I went to get my Invisaligns, she told me that she saw I didn´t want them and managed to do things that way that I don´t need to wear rubber bands (I´m a music teacher and singing a lot and I was worried that these might brake while I work) and I was really happy. But now after watching your video, I´m worried and thinking that maybe I should ask the rubber bands for my next appointment. If my situation and bite were too bad, she would have got me rubber bands anyway and maybe my bite isn´t that bad so I didn´t need them? What do you suggest me to do now, I´m confused. Sorry for my english -it´s not my mother language :)
It’s normal that you’re feeling this way. On one hand, you’re happy because you won’t need rubber bands, on the other hand, you’re worried that you may not get the ideal results. Because I don’t know the details of your case, you can request to talk to your orthodontist and make sure that you’ll still be getting good results without rubber bands. Perhaps your case is a mild case and rubber bands is nice to have but not essential. Good luck with your treatment.
I have misalignment and a deep overbite so I just got Invisalign a week ago but my ortho hasn’t mentioned anything about elastics. Are elastics usually reserved for later in treatment? Also I noticed on the teeth you showed on minute 3:56 that there is empty space at that bottom of the aligner and mine is the same way. What does that mean? Thanks!
Hi, deep overbite already in a good class one occlusion will not require elastics. The deep bite will be corrected by leveling the curve of spee. Please watch the bite ramp for deep bite video I posted before. This is usually done by intruding the incisors and extruding the posterior teeth (in growing children). The gap that you’re seeing means that your teeth are not tracking properly. In my example, I had to add buttons and elastics to pull the bottom teeth up and top teeth down. Hope this helps.
@@TrayMinder thanks for the response! I watch that video too and it does help. I do have bite ramps on my aligners. So hopefully that will suffice. As for the space indicating I'm not tracking, this is only my first week having Invisalign and it was like that the first time I put in the tray. So does that mean it isn't the right fit?
This question should be directed to your treating doctor. Chewing exercises should help (see video on that). Generally, new aligners will not fit 100% at the beginning 1-4 days. If they did, your teeth would not move. There’s been many questions in tracking and not tracking and what’s normal and what’s not. I can do a video on that topic if there’s enough demand :)
Hi I started my second tray yesterday, and I was just wondering what is the longest time period it has taken for someone to complete an overjet. I was told to wear my rubber bands 24/7 just like you said and I was given 50 total trays, do you think it will take me 500 DAYS to fix my overbite?
Yes, that’s very possible and could take even longer than that depending on the severity of the bite. Your orthodontist will give you an estimated treatment time.
Super quick question. I’m wearing elastics with my Invisalign to correct an large overbite where my front teeth are angled back towards my lower teeth, and I was just wondering how I should be focusing on my bite? Should I be focusing on letting the elastics pull and positioning my lower jaw forward? This means my front teeth sit on top of my lower teeth, but it means my other teeth aren’t pressing against each other and pushing the tray into my teeth. Or should I be biting down on my back teeth? Which means all my back teeth are getting even pressure and are pushed into the trays, but that isn’t helping move my jaw forward. I’m at spot in my treatment (tray 16 of 52 supplied so far of a 12 month treatment) where my front teeth haven’t changed their backwards tilting angle. So it feels like my back teeth won’t be able to truly touch and align until my front teeth do that major angle shift.
Hi, unless you’re a growing child/teen undergoing mandibular advancement with Invisalign or some other functional appliance like the Herbst, MARA or Twin Block, positioning your jaw forward is going to decrease the forces exerted by your elastics. By moving your jaw forward, you’re essentially shortening the distance of the anterior posterior pull of the elastics. Your orthodontist will be the best person to answer the specifics of your treatment. Good luck.

You’re welcome. I’m glad the elastic video was helpful. Regarding ibuprofen, if that’s what’s helping your migraines, then your comfort trumps tooth movement. You’re right that NSAIDS, like ibuprofen, slow down tooth movement.
Great video! Tons of useful info
Glad it was helpful!

Good luck with your treatment. Clear aligners are a great tool for orthodontists to use for correction of open bites.
Very clear explanation Dr. 👏👏👏
Thanks for watching :)
This video was so informative and professional! Thank you! If you read this, I do have a question. Are rubber bands ever used for helping rotations of rounder teeth (like the premolars) with clear aligners?
Thank you. Yes, buttons can be bonded to premolars and molars and elastics can be used to rotate the premolars, using molars as anchorage.

Hi Dr. Bailey! Thank you for the very informative video :) I was just wondering why my orthodontist recommended I wear my elastic only at night (for ten hours each day)? I am using unilateral rubber bands only on one side for reference... Thank you!!
For underbites can they use invisaligners with rubber bands? All your videos are very informative thanks so much.
Thanks for watching. Aligners can accommodate elastic wear.
Super helpful!
Glad to hear that :)
Thanks for the video! Very helpful! 👍😀
Glad to hear it. Thanks for the feedback.
Hi Dr.
I started treatment 2 months ago
And now am on my 5th tray
My dentist just introduced me to those idk if he forgot to do so before or what
But we started with 1 botton on one side am not sure if he will but more next month
But my only issue now is that my lips get dry and naturally ur tongue would lick ur lips when u feel them go dry and i cant do that since the rubber and restrict get in the way i feel like they will snap if i open any bit wider
Any advices
Thank you, these videos u guys make to put for us are really helpful bc our doctors are poor at doing their patient educational job so am very grateful for those videos and comment sections
@@TrayMinder will do👍
Thank you for ur response
I appreciate it
Thanks a lot - very helpfull :-)) Do u always use rubberband with a class II or III bite?
Usually elastics are used to correct mild to moderate class II or III bites. Sometimes IPR is sufficient for very mild cases and jaw surgery for very severe cases.
@@TrayMinder Thank U Dr. Bailey:-)
I have the exact same placement teehee
Jaclyn, they’re called cross bite or posterior cross bite elastics.
Thank you!! I just got mine in a few hours ago and this helped a lot with my confusion
So glad that it was helpful for you.
Just want to say thank you! Thank you so much! I am from Germany and I am really glad I found your videos. They are really helpful ❤️
I just wondered about the non-latex elastics.
Thanks! :)
You’re going to be fine. Consistency trumps force.
Thank you I was thinking about getting Invisalign or braces but I didn't know if Invisalign will fix my cross bite
How to wear and unhook unilateral elastic
Hi Dr. Bailey, after my treatment ends, will I have to wear rubber bands for the rest of my life, similar to how people have to wear their retainer every night for the rest of their life?
Elastics are not usually worn during retention. In very rare cases, light elastics are worn with retainers for class 3 cases.
Yes, adjacent teeth are often used.
you didn't mention here the rubber bands cutting into your cheek. Is there any tips for that? anything I can coat on the rubber band once it's in?
Maybe dental wax if it stays
Can it correct problem of overbite..i wanna know
Overbite (not overjet) is corrected with aligners or braces.
@@TrayMinder Thank you for taking time to clarify! :)

Thanks for watching. Yes, change elastics after every meal should be fine.
My orthodontist took my metal hook out so I'm not using rubber bands anymore. Can I ask to have them put back? Would that cause harm?
Maybe your bite is corrected already so the metal hook is not needed anymore? Ask your orthodontist for clarification.
I got unilateral class 2 today. But my orthodontist only told me to use one rubber band a day, that is every 24 hours.
Hi. Thanks for the video. I just started invisalign treatment 2 weeks ago. My ortho told me to wear the rubber bands only 12 hours a day.
I have a class 3 (crossbite). Do you think i need to wear them 22 hours a day?
I have space between my lower and upper teeth on my side teeth on both sides. How should I use my rubber bands??
That’s a great question and every case is different. Please talk to your provider for their advice.
do they change facial structure as well ?
Bone structure does not change with elastics. This video may be helpful: TRUTHS ABOUT INVISALIGN ELASTICS: What they can and cannot fix l Dr. Melissa Bailey, Orthodontist
ruclips.net/video/HrspOOtKyec/видео.html
They gave me one bag and told me to replace them every 24 hours!
Do you think for a gap between my teeth, Invisalign would be better or braces?
It’s difficult to say, without having access to any orthodontic records. All things being equal, clear aligners are easier to close spacing due to less potential for gingival (gum) bunching from gingivitis (more common with braces).
One month in here with class 3 elastics
How often should elastics be changed? My dentist told me to switch them out every 4 hours. But I only switch them 3 times a day after I eat because I go through a bag of 100 in one month.
Changing after meals should be sufficient. You can ask your ortho to clarify the next time you’re in the office.
Did 10 months of Invisalign treatment before i realized that the treatment plan wasn’t designed to fix my overbite. Just fixed crowding
My dentist said to me if I use normal metal braces I need rubber bands but If I use invaslign then I dont need it. Now I’m confused
I started my 2nd set of trays and I’m not feeling any discomfort so I’m concerned they’re not working. Is that normal?
Everyone has different pain tolerance and each tray may move your teeth differently. Just enjoy the “no pain” for this tray.
Will rubber bands help with closing a small gap on my top row because it’s not closing and new aligners are not fitting properly
It’s hard to say as each case is different and needs clinical evaluation.
@@TrayMinder Thanks so much for your response. ❤️
@@TrayMinder Thank you. I appreciate the response. :)
Yes, that’s for midline correction.
You are quite correct. It sounds like you have a Carriere distalizer. Those can be quite effective with excellent elastic wear. Good luck!
I was given elastics but I wasn’t told how to or when to wear them. What should I do?
Call your ortho office. Your treating orthodontist or someone at the office should be able to advise you on that.
All of this is great information. But of no use when you cannot afford what should be basic oral care.
My ortho never mentioned the bands even tough my visit was about correcting my bite. I’m currently on tray 17 of 50 and will see him for tray 21. Is it too late to ask of him to add the rubber bands?
It depends on your case. Definitely talk to your ortho about your questions.
Hi Dr. Bailey,
Are TAD’s effective in correcting an occlusal cant in conjunction with Invisalign aligners? Also, would the trays require modification if the patient requested TAD’s mid-course or would a new set need to be ordered instead?
TADs can be very effective and sometimes necessary in conjunction with CAT. Your orthodontist will figure out if new aligners are necessary. Sometimes cutouts can be done on your existing trays to accommodate.
Sometimes a slight overbite makes the pper lips look bigger thou and is more aesthetic. is it always necessary to wear class 2 bands just to fix that?
Yes, you’re right that some upper lip support via upper incisor positioning is helpful for some people (and a negative for others). It all depends on many factors like jaw structure, bite, teeth size/shape/position, soft tissue profile and size, etc.
My lip structure definitely changed but my right jaw bite gotten worse since I started wearing aligners
My bite on my right side is the only side that is off so I only have elastics on that side
My ortho said I have a overbite and deep but put bands ,class III (lower canine, upper molar) on the right side, my midline on my top teeth are shifted to the right while my lower teeth are centered correctly. I’m not sure why is there any reasoning?does this make sense or should I change orthodontists?
It’s hard to say - there may be other reasons. Probably best to ask your orthodontist.
Me right now with invisalign in and one elastic on my right side 😅
Vertical elastics are more common with braces to close posterior open bites. Your doctor will likely plan the refinement accordingly.
@@TrayMinder ill be intrested to see what the plan is
Can ivisalign fix middle line discrepancy in adults?
Good question. It depends on your initial midline discrepancy. A combination of elastic wear and/or IPR can help correct mild midline discrepancies that are not due to missing teeth and/or skeletal asymmetry/deviations. An orthodontist is the best person to evaluate and advise.
I wanted to know about drinking coffee with rubber bands. I have regular braces. But now that I have elastics, is it ok to drink warm things or no?
It’s fine. Just change your elastics out a few times a day to keep them fresh and active.
Is Invisalign able to fix a moderate deep bite?
Usually yes.
Thank you!
Have you tried dental wax on the button?
@@TrayMinder Yes. So much better Thank you!
Elastics can be tricky to put on at first. Try this video: ruclips.net/video/K2r5p_xkqak/видео.html
Cleaning crystals are used to clean your aligners.
does using more gravity power rubber bands increase the movement speeds? of course, teeth will tend to retain their natural moving speeds but im wondering if the added power will put in some more support (was lazy about bands for a few weeks and ended up delaying my next trays). btw Doc. is hot. wonderful smile too
Thanks for watching and great question.
I’ve been wearing my rubber bands for like 6 weeks still no change to my midline…
It takes time to see change sometimes. Adult teeth move 0.5 mm per month on average.
@@TrayMinder yes that would a great video! Thanks!
Can Invisalign help with a cross bite for an adult?
I have an open bite with a small under bite but they didn’t say anything about bands 🤔 I thought I would need bands
You can always check with your provider. Sometimes IPR on the lower is sufficient for correcting a very minor anterior class III.
Good luck.
You prefer 1 week change or two week change for Invisalign trays? I am really upset I am on a two weeks schedule right now
The change schedule is dependent on many patients factors. Talk to your treating doctor about what’s best for your unique case.
