Make sure you get some wax. A true mouth saver! Take some Advil or Tylenol before you get them on too. It’ll help with any discomfort. It will be well worth it in the end! ☺️ (I had them at 20 and have to get them again at 37 🤦🏼♀️)
So I’m 7 weeks in with Damon metal braces and tbh no pain what so ever, didn’t need any painkillers it was hard to eat first few days due to my bite block on one side but got used to it by the end of the week also used some wax first 3-4 days but my cheeks got used to it, now I have parrot elastics literally was given them today hence I’m back here lol and it’s not painful .. well not yet lol

@jaj4706 I felt like I had made a mistake, mostly because of the pain at first. They absolutely shredded the inside of my lips, and I couldn't get any relief. It was awful. Then seeing the transition and worrying that the outcome wouldn't be the best and thinking maybe the before wasn't so bad. Haha I just worry about everything and braces were no exception. They are a huge expense and wondering if it would be worth it was unnerving at times. Surprisingly, after a while, I kind of enjoyed having them and was sad to see them go. My teeth aren't "perfect" after having braces, but I do think it was worth it.
@jessicab331 Yes, I have had them off since October 2021! I was very careful and tried to do everything right as well because it came out of my pocket! Braces are expensive! And for me, I had added travel costs because my orthodontist was over an hour away. Haha. So, I definitely tried my best to be as careful as possible. I hope your second journey with braces is a good one! They will be off before you know it! I miss mine sometimes. Haha.

I have the one for the overbite but since my last appointment last month, my ortho told me that I now only have to wear the elastics when sleeping, not during daytime anymore 🥳🥳
My midline was off because when I was a kid, I took one of my brother's elastics and put it around my two front top teeth for several hours to lessen the gap. Only one tooth moved, so my midline wound up uncentered. Ended up with a gap next to the tooth that moved, but I didn't really notice it for years, and from head on, it wasn't as bad as the center gap was. My dad wouldn't pay for braces for me after my brother didn't wear his retainer, so here I am at 35 with braces after repeatedly delaying getting them since age 19/20.
I would absolutely love to see the midline video. Going through that myself now, but he hasn't started treating for me for that yet. It's next. Thank you so much for all of the information in your videos.
I think your videos are great for patient education. I stumbled across your channel a while ago. I have stolen your analogy of rolling a ball up a hill for a lot of things when advising patients (like wearing aligners or wearing elastics)! Keep up the great work.
This video was VERY helpful. I currently have kobayashi ties in the front and they have been tearing up my mouth. This is my second time having braces and I’ve never been in so much pain. An extended video on how to deal with and/or ease the pain would be greatly appreciated.
I think I'm on the final stages of my brace journey, it's almost 3 years. I have elastic on my end molar top to my front bottom teeth, to get the bottom teeth backward. Now my front teeth is open again like anterior box, plus it's back on overbite😩
I had a variant of class 2 elastics. My ortho crimped one of those hooks on the wire in between the brackets on my middle and lateral incisors on either side and I wore the elastics going from those hooks back to my molars on the bottom. Worked super fast for me.

After 10 months of braces doing nothing ( my teeth were fine, my dentist also said it - only protrusion). I finally got my elastics to fix my protrusion!!!!!!

I remember having to do triangle elastics when I was a kid with my braces, and they gave me horrible headaches from the pulling. I don't miss those days, but at least I know now why I had to do it
I wore class II elastics for at least 3 visits, yesterday they changed it to triangle, I had a small overbite so understand why class II, but I'm not sure why they made me wear triangle but since they are the experts I'm gonna continue wear them even if they hurt a lot!
My lower row is rotated in toward the tongue side, so they put buttons on the tongue side of my lower premolars. I have elastics that go from the brackets on the upper premolars, across the biting surface, and to the buttons on the lower premolars.
Hello Dr. Greg!! I just want to start off by saying thank you so much for your videos. You’re channel is my ‘go to, for all the questions I have on my braces journey. Although you do an outstanding job at answering all of my questions... I just have one unanswered about elastics. Does a patient have to wait until a certain point in their braces journey to start wearing the elastic bands? I’m asking because I’m about 3 months in and my mid lines are slightly off (only I’ve noticed) and sadly my orthodontist hasn’t really made this journey fun and full of information during my visits. It just feels like I am part of his routine and I don’t get the chance to ask questions because he’s already out of the door and onto the next patient. I wear clear aligners. My dentist bonded directly to my teeth metal buttons on my lower molars and a plastic (I think) on my upper teeth to fix a class II bite. I put on 6 1/2 oz heavy elastics.
Thank goodness for this video... my ortho doesn't communicate unless I ASK him what's for what at each appointment after an adjustment/tightening. I almost also thought that he's catching on his own nonsense with my teeth coz he keep asking what exactly the problem with my teeth was now again 😳😑

my ortho told me that i’ll be having my elastics on my next appointment since the midline of my teeth are not straight as is, and i also have overbites 😭 and since i have my molar extracted, there’s a big gap between my last teeth and the teeth after the molar that was extracted 😭 if possible, can you do a video about midline and overbites (like how my situation right now) it would give me more insights and knowledge about my journey. thank you so much! your videos are so informative. 😍😍😍

Currently class 2 on the right. On the left side, I have an elastic connected to inner hook on my lower 4 connected to the outside up my upper 4 to correct cross bite.
I had braces and these bands are very dangerous to you’re jaw if you have a severe overbite you are waay better off accepting you’re over bite and over jet using these bands caused the muscles in my jaw to be sensitive to my mouth opening wide and caused jaw cracking and popping and dislocation
For everyone who have had braces or currently have braces rn, when were you able to chew again? Almost two month in and i still can’t so i was wondering when others were able to
i could eat normally about 2 weeks after i first got them on, and when i get them tightened the pain can stay anywhere from 2 hours to 2 weeks. i know this doesn’t help much, but i hope you can chew normally soon! have a nice day :)
I don’t have elastics yet, I only got my upper teeth braced up right now, they’re waiting 6 months before they brace up my lower teeth because apparently that lines up the lower teeth with the upper teeth better
@@noelmier5334 oh, don't worry about it. I also only had the top brace for the first few months and the elastic came in even later. I've only been using them for 3 or 4 months and I had braves for more than a year. They work very fast tho! 🙂

Got my elastics and power chain today, needless to say...my jaw hurts EDIT: the elastic pattern I have isn’t in the video. I have a button on the back of the second to last molar on top and it’s hooked to the front of my second to last molar of my bottom teeth. Feels weird, but it’s supposed to help my cross bite. The sides of my tongue is definitely rubbed raw
with my first set of braces I had the canine to canine cross but I also had elastics that attached to metal buttons on the lingual of my top molars and attached to the buccal of my bottom molars. I think they were expanding my upper arch
he really made me get up and put my elastics on 😂

I have 5 elastics on right now. 1 for midline, 1 for class III, 2 box type on my left and right canines, and 1 for crossbite

Thank goodness for this video... my ortho doesn't communicate unless I ASK him what's for what at each appointment after an adjustment/tightening. I almost also thought that he's catching on his own nonsense with my teeth coz he keep asking what exactly the problem with my teeth was now again 😳😑

I have a triangle pattern right now. I've have braces for 17 months and elastics from day 1!
my ortho told me that i’ll be having my elastics on my next appointment since the midline of my teeth are not straight as is, and i also have overbites 😭 and since i have my molar extracted, there’s a big gap between my last teeth and the teeth after the molar that was extracted 😭 if possible, can you do a video about midline and overbites (like how my situation right now) it would give me more insights and knowledge about my journey. thank you so much! your videos are so informative. 😍😍😍

Currently class 2 on the right. On the left side, I have an elastic connected to inner hook on my lower 4 connected to the outside up my upper 4 to correct cross bite.
I had braces and these bands are very dangerous to you’re jaw if you have a severe overbite you are waay better off accepting you’re over bite and over jet using these bands caused the muscles in my jaw to be sensitive to my mouth opening wide and caused jaw cracking and popping and dislocation

For everyone who have had braces or currently have braces rn, when were you able to chew again? Almost two month in and i still can’t so i was wondering when others were able to
Mine took a few weeks
i could eat normally about 2 weeks after i first got them on, and when i get them tightened the pain can stay anywhere from 2 hours to 2 weeks. i know this doesn’t help much, but i hope you can chew normally soon! have a nice day :)

I don’t have elastics yet, I only got my upper teeth braced up right now, they’re waiting 6 months before they brace up my lower teeth because apparently that lines up the lower teeth with the upper teeth better
Wearing class II elastics only at night for the 4th month at mid treatment phase!

@@noelmier5334 oh, don't worry about it. I also only had the top brace for the first few months and the elastic came in even later. I've only been using them for 3 or 4 months and I had braves for more than a year. They work very fast tho! 🙂

EDIT: the elastic pattern I have isn’t in the video. I have a button on the back of the second to last molar on top and it’s hooked to the front of my second to last molar of my bottom teeth. Feels weird, but it’s supposed to help my cross bite. The sides of my tongue is definitely rubbed raw

with my first set of braces I had the canine to canine cross but I also had elastics that attached to metal buttons on the lingual of my top molars and attached to the buccal of my bottom molars. I think they were expanding my upper arch

As of my last appointment.. i have to wear a triangele pattern on the left.. but i still gotta wear a class 3 on right side

I just received elastics today and was given a “trapezoid” shape. It’s tender but not uncomfortable yet.
