@@Annnabannanna iv broken brackets before since it has to be replaced and the bracket isnt doing anything you can just cut the wire so it doesnt bother you but its really not a huge deal

Yeah my friend has been in braces for like 4 years and last year she took them off with pliers. Her teeth were fine but they’ll probably shift and she’ll get back in braces again
I’m 50 and getting them next month. I had them in my twenties for almost two and half years but I had to relocate and never had follow up care and proper retainers. Now I have to do them all over again.

I had braces thirty years ago, and my mom kicked my tuchus for even just *accidentally* breaking a bracket off one of my teeth. If I’d intentionally messed around with my braces, she would have shot me into the sun.
idk how i ended up here but i've been binging these vids. when i was 12 i had braces on my bottom teeth, the wire was constantly coming out and stabbing my cheeks to the point it hurt to even open my mouth, i took the braces off myself and my orthodontist screamed at me like i didn't go in 12 times asking him to fix it. im 26 now and want to fix them and wish i just dealt with the holes in my cheeks lmao
It happened to me too! Now I have two holes (one per cheek) and they are still there after 10+ years 😭😭 Edit: I didn't took away my breaches but I had to cut the snapped wires by myself because it was so painful I couldn't wait to the next appointment

You know what trend I’m loving right now? All the orthodontist content being shown to me as RUclips shorts. I love seeing the positivity in those professionals as they talk about the best kind of toothbrush and toothpaste to use. Before seeing those content creators I didn’t realise that the best kind of toothbrush to have is a soft one (for some reason I thought firmer was better, but now I know that you shouldn’t brush too hard!) It’s nice because I firmly believe that by seeing content creators talk about dental hygiene in a fun way it reaches out to younger audiences more!

@The Shadow Ninjas I didn't say that it doesn't whiten your teeth. It does whiten until it doesn't. For people that like to "saw" at their teeth when brushing, the charcoal toothpaste is too abrasive and the hard brushing on top of that will essentially removal your outer enamel and then expose the dentin underneath (the inner layer of the tooth), which is yellow and darker than enamel. I have been working in dentistry for 10 years and have knowledge first hand of what I am speaking of.

A couple years ago fake braces were a huge trend in Asia I am not surprised the dyi kits are showing up in the us now. People were doing it for fashion not at all for dental benefits.
Because I got lot of cavities since I was a kid, I like to watch or read things related to oral health. Fascinating. And I came to know that there is a lot of cases related to illegal dental procedure like braces, ventures etc. because there is a dentist-youtuber from my country that make a channel specifically to educate and review dental procedure that is NOT done by dentists. Scary things really happen guys. If you can't afford to go to the dentist, better not to do it yourself and NOT go to those illegal practices. Just try to maintain our oral health with good habits.
Some, if not, most patients are into DIY now because of the feeling that Dentists don't have the intention to treat cases in an efficient way so to get more money from their patient's pocket.

Thanks so much for this video! When I was first getting my braces the girl next to me had taken off her own braces and she had cracked open a tooth, if only she had seen this video lol. Also another trend I have noticed is using ‘gap bands’ to try and close spaces between teeth.
I'm going to start my braces journey soon at the age of 24 - I've gotto have the orthognathic surgery and my treatment is expected to last around 3-3.5 Years. I might just watch through all the 3 years worth of content on your channel.

Haha Dr. Greg, i change my own ligature ties. I wear the clear/colourless ones which stains pretty easily. I hate walking around with my teeth appearing yellow, so i change them in between treatments. My ortho knows and he doesn't mind at all.

I’m super excited about joining this group. Have been watching all of Dr. Greg Videos on RUclips. I’m 56 years young with impacted canines. Had a bad dental experience when I was younger so that why I’m having to go thru this process at this age My lower right canine cuspid is giving me pure hell. My bottom two canine cuspid are erupting an are not in the right positions. My right upper canine cuspid has erupted years ago but is sitting back farther from my upper front gum line. My left upper canine cuspid refused to come down. My orthodontist says he’s finally going to give me the smile I deserve. He informed me that he just placed braces on his own father at the tender age of 56. He’s very encouraging. He informed that I have a young mouth. My teeth are still moving just later in my life. I’m going to post a pic of myself. I stop smiling many years ago. I smile with my mouth shut most of the times. When I get my braces on I plan on vlogging about my journey. I will be posting before, between an after pics in the near future. I’m so happy an bless to be in this group.

I saw a company online that sells a special chewing gum called Ortho Gum that claims it is safe for use with braces and invisalign and is supposed to help reduce both soreness and treatment time. It has endorsements from mail order orthodontic aligners such as smile direct but I didn’t notice any endorsements from the AAO or another reliable source for orthodontics.
WoW that's insane!! I just got mine installed a few days ago. I've been on a braces video binge/marathon on things to do and don't. I can't believe there is ways to bootleg yourself some orthodontic procedures. Incredibly dangerous!!! I would never. I'm doing this the right way especially after all the money I had to pay just for the down payment!! Still over $5000 to go!! It's too costly to DIY. I'd rather have the orthodontist do it so in that way if a tooth does become damaged or whatever it's partially on them. Good video, glad I watched it.

I’m getting braces (again-haven’t worn my retainer in years) next month and I’m just shocked that people actually do these things to their teeth. It’s not that difficult to call the ortho for an appointment smh And why are braces kits available on Amazon? Makes me question the sanity of society.
Not everyone can afford to go to the orthodontist, or in my case, afford to continue the treatment. I haven't had my braces tightened in three years and I can't afford to get them taken off, but I need to in order to go into the air force (why? I have no idea) So while it may not be the proper, healthy, or even smart thing to do, some people have no choice. It's a lot more about the cost than following some type of trend.
Sometimes my orthodontics miss a corner of my bracket with the little elastic and that really make me nervous that it's not perfectly in the 4 corner of the bracket so I put in myself on the missing corner.
I also change my rubbers because of the same reason. What can we do when the rubber bands are falling off. And my orthodontist will not change the rubber bands just because I want to change the color, only for emergencies or regular visits.
@@yourstruly5714 my orthodontist approved it only once because it was time to change it and I couldn't come in...but changing it too often, or not with same materials, can affect treatment. I would talk to your ortho, about what you can do between visits when a ligature tie falls off, or if it is ok to change the color and if ok, how often is ok?
I did this as well. I didn't change them out but I had to unhook them because they were weak and popping and eventually going over my gums (pretty uncomfortable) I just took a safety pin and unhooked it came off like nothing since they so weak after months without appointment. My teeth had already moved slightly because of the popping and weak elastic I just went ahead with it. I was able to get a last minute appointment anyway, My ortho didn't mind.

It's actually crazy how the orthodontic fetish aspect has sky rocketed since the take over of social media 😆🤣 We definitely didn't have this in the 80s and 90s when I first wore braces. I would never consider taking off my own braces I really don't see the common sense in that or much less even trying to file my teeth and worse yet with a nail file how does that make any sense
you will 100% hate me for this: when i was like 16 (now 23) i had to wear braces for the second time and I REMOVED THEM MYSELF because in my mind i preferred slightly crooked teeth over the horrible pain + didn’t like the way they looked, i had a lot of glue on my teeth and i decided to FILE IT WITH A NAIL FILE. after that i still had glue residue on my teeth for a couple of years (i think like 3 years). Sooo, please don’t be stupid and don’t do this 😂😂 my teeth are a little crooked (barely noticeable from the front that’s why i didn’t mind it) but i’m getting invisalign to fix it. it’s so stupid because i wouldn’t have to do this if i listened to my orthodontist when i was a stupid impressionable teenager. luckily my treatment will not be so expensive (like 1000 usd aprox) but still, you can get like an ipad or something nice with that money. learn from my mistake and listen to your orthodontist people!😂

@@itsmeaminah6982 I had twin blocks this time last year... I honestly hated them my mouth swelled up😪 but they weren't that bad. So after the twin blocks, I got my upper right second premolar removed and then I got train tracks up and down 4 days ago! :)
Like 8 years ago, fake cosmetic braces became popular in my country. People would get them installed on the street, with no sanitary measures and instead of a decent cement, they would use crazy glue.

I guess the problem is , the cost of braces are too high! So most people who attempt to do their own braces , do so with hopes of saving some money 🤦🏽♀️so they teach themselves what you know! 🤷🏽♀️ and can you really blame them? maybe you guys should make braces a little more affordable especially for low income families and the older population… it doesn’t even take the long to put them on and y’all charging $3,000-6,000🚩 that’s a rip off 🥴😩😔
I'd previously heard of the trend of filing teeth but not any of the others. When I first read an article about it, the first thing I thought was, "I never thought the AAO's Happy Mouth Now ad would ever be more than satire." This just proves me wrong even more. On the note about how complex orthodontics is and all the decisions being made, I'm fully aware of that because I'm getting treatment by a resident. They have to run all decisions through the faculty on duty, so I hear them talking it over.

I would argue that filing is crazier. With the braces stuff, there's somewhat of a chance of the effects being reversible. Filing is irreversible no matter what.

Orthodontics is not a medical procedure. It's an unregulated industry. An orthodontist is like a salesman. I had chipped teeth from an orthodontist using the wrong tool. I got TMJ from an orthodontist. This is a cosmetic procedure that makes most people look like they are wearing dentures.

A couple years ago fake braces were a huge trend in Asia I am not surprised the dyi kits are showing up in the us now. People were doing it for fashion not at all for dental benefits.
Because I got lot of cavities since I was a kid, I like to watch or read things related to oral health. Fascinating. And I came to know that there is a lot of cases related to illegal dental procedure like braces, ventures etc. because there is a dentist-youtuber from my country that make a channel specifically to educate and review dental procedure that is NOT done by dentists. Scary things really happen guys. If you can't afford to go to the dentist, better not to do it yourself and NOT go to those illegal practices. Just try to maintain our oral health with good habits.

Some, if not, most patients are into DIY now because of the feeling that Dentists don't have the intention to treat cases in an efficient way so to get more money from their patient's pocket.
I know there is a trend where people who doesn’t have spacers or braces, use those small colorful rubber bands to close gaps between teeth. For example, people who have gaps between their front teeth will put a rubber band around the teeth

Thanks so much for this video! When I was first getting my braces the girl next to me had taken off her own braces and she had cracked open a tooth, if only she had seen this video lol. Also another trend I have noticed is using ‘gap bands’ to try and close spaces between teeth.

Haha Dr. Greg, i change my own ligature ties. I wear the clear/colourless ones which stains pretty easily. I hate walking around with my teeth appearing yellow, so i change them in between treatments. My ortho knows and he doesn't mind at all.

I’m super excited about joining this group. Have been watching all of Dr. Greg Videos on RUclips. I’m 56 years young with impacted canines. Had a bad dental experience when I was younger so that why I’m having to go thru this process at this age My lower right canine cuspid is giving me pure hell. My bottom two canine cuspid are erupting an are not in the right positions. My right upper canine cuspid has erupted years ago but is sitting back farther from my upper front gum line. My left upper canine cuspid refused to come down. My orthodontist says he’s finally going to give me the smile I deserve. He informed me that he just placed braces on his own father at the tender age of 56. He’s very encouraging. He informed that I have a young mouth. My teeth are still moving just later in my life. I’m going to post a pic of myself. I stop smiling many years ago. I smile with my mouth shut most of the times. When I get my braces on I plan on vlogging about my journey. I will be posting before, between an after pics in the near future. I’m so happy an bless to be in this group.

I saw a company online that sells a special chewing gum called Ortho Gum that claims it is safe for use with braces and invisalign and is supposed to help reduce both soreness and treatment time. It has endorsements from mail order orthodontic aligners such as smile direct but I didn’t notice any endorsements from the AAO or another reliable source for orthodontics.
WoW that's insane!! I just got mine installed a few days ago. I've been on a braces video binge/marathon on things to do and don't. I can't believe there is ways to bootleg yourself some orthodontic procedures. Incredibly dangerous!!! I would never. I'm doing this the right way especially after all the money I had to pay just for the down payment!! Still over $5000 to go!! It's too costly to DIY. I'd rather have the orthodontist do it so in that way if a tooth does become damaged or whatever it's partially on them. Good video, glad I watched it.

@@readingteacher1168 just had mine off for about a month, wore them little over 2yrs. I love colors. I've had Red, Blue, Teal, lol. My favorite was called Plum Crazy. It looked good with my skin tone and lip gloss.
Black and pastel blue are my go-to. Or rainbow. Gotta love when every bracket has a different color 😁

Don’t be, it doesn’t hurt and takes about 5 mins
It’s sore after the first day and for a few days after. So prepare for that. Not painful just really uncomfortable and hard to eat.
I have two videos on my page that go into details about my first two tightening appointments. I will say my appointments went well. They weren’t painful and the appointments were less than 30 minutes.

I’m getting braces (again-haven’t worn my retainer in years) next month and I’m just shocked that people actually do these things to their teeth. It’s not that difficult to call the ortho for an appointment smh And why are braces kits available on Amazon? Makes me question the sanity of society.
Not everyone can afford to go to the orthodontist, or in my case, afford to continue the treatment. I haven't had my braces tightened in three years and I can't afford to get them taken off, but I need to in order to go into the air force (why? I have no idea) So while it may not be the proper, healthy, or even smart thing to do, some people have no choice. It's a lot more about the cost than following some type of trend.

Sometimes my orthodontics miss a corner of my bracket with the little elastic and that really make me nervous that it's not perfectly in the 4 corner of the bracket so I put in myself on the missing corner.

I changed my power chain during covid shut down with permission from my orthodontist. I sent many photos thru email first and got the ok.

I also change my rubbers because of the same reason. What can we do when the rubber bands are falling off. And my orthodontist will not change the rubber bands just because I want to change the color, only for emergencies or regular visits.
@@yourstruly5714 my orthodontist approved it only once because it was time to change it and I couldn't come in...but changing it too often, or not with same materials, can affect treatment.
I would talk to your ortho, about what you can do between visits when a ligature tie falls off, or if it is ok to change the color and if ok, how often is ok?
I did this as well. I didn't change them out but I had to unhook them because they were weak and popping and eventually going over my gums (pretty uncomfortable) I just took a safety pin and unhooked it came off like nothing since they so weak after months without appointment. My teeth had already moved slightly because of the popping and weak elastic I just went ahead with it. I was able to get a last minute appointment anyway, My ortho didn't mind.

It's actually crazy how the orthodontic fetish aspect has sky rocketed since the take over of social media 😆🤣 We definitely didn't have this in the 80s and 90s when I first wore braces. Heck....braces back then wasn't even something to celebrate 🤭😪 But hey. I'm kinda obsessed with braces 🙌😛 but I'll leave it all in the hands of my amazing Orthodontist 👏

I would never consider taking off my own braces I really don't see the common sense in that or much less even trying to file my teeth and worse yet with a nail file how does that make any sense
you will 100% hate me for this: when i was like 16 (now 23) i had to wear braces for the second time and I REMOVED THEM MYSELF because in my mind i preferred slightly crooked teeth over the horrible pain + didn’t like the way they looked, i had a lot of glue on my teeth and i decided to FILE IT WITH A NAIL FILE. after that i still had glue residue on my teeth for a couple of years (i think like 3 years). Sooo, please don’t be stupid and don’t do this 😂😂 my teeth are a little crooked (barely noticeable from the front that’s why i didn’t mind it) but i’m getting invisalign to fix it. it’s so stupid because i wouldn’t have to do this if i listened to my orthodontist when i was a stupid impressionable teenager. luckily my treatment will not be so expensive (like 1000 usd aprox) but still, you can get like an ipad or something nice with that money. learn from my mistake and listen to your orthodontist people!😂

Like 8 years ago, fake cosmetic braces became popular in my country. People would get them installed on the street, with no sanitary measures and instead of a decent cement, they would use crazy glue.

I guess the problem is , the cost of braces are too high! So most people who attempt to do their own braces , do so with hopes of saving some money 🤦🏽♀️so they teach themselves what you know! 🤷🏽♀️ and can you really blame them? maybe you guys should make braces a little more affordable especially for low income families and the older population… it doesn’t even take the long to put them on and y’all charging $3,000-6,000🚩 that’s a rip off 🥴😩😔
I'd previously heard of the trend of filing teeth but not any of the others. When I first read an article about it, the first thing I thought was, "I never thought the AAO's Happy Mouth Now ad would ever be more than satire." This just proves me wrong even more.
On the note about how complex orthodontics is and all the decisions being made, I'm fully aware of that because I'm getting treatment by a resident. They have to run all decisions through the faculty on duty, so I hear them talking it over.

I would argue that filing is crazier. With the braces stuff, there's somewhat of a chance of the effects being reversible. Filing is irreversible no matter what.

Orthodontics is not a medical procedure. It's an unregulated industry. An orthodontist is like a salesman. I had chipped teeth from an orthodontist using the wrong tool. I got TMJ from an orthodontist. This is a cosmetic procedure that makes most people look like they are wearing dentures.
Greetings from Kenya, I have overcrowded teeth on my lower jaw, planning on getting lingual braces, however, am scared of removing healthy teeth to create space, do docs still have to remove teeth or are there better ways, am scared of having a flat profile.
If they want to remove healthy teeth, dont do it, find another orthodontict
