I have seen people use round slate coasters for the snuffing plates and they look really good as well.

Beautiful work, Huw! I used to smoke cigars and would have loved to have such nice ashtrays. I stopped cigar smoking some years ago, but I still smoke a cigar once a year on my birthday.

Nice one Huw. Can’t see a wood ash try without a metal insert. Would just burn up the bottom. The stainless disks are a great solution. Well done.

Nice ash trays Huw well done they came nice. About the water for cbn collect the water after finishing grinding and save it so you can use it again and you will save the chemical untirust. Bye and see in the next demo.

Saying that I'm currently editing my video of the piece where I had the bad catches on. All the catches are now hidden... though the bowl is slightly smaller than what I had originally planned.

An ashtray with a secret. I like it. I no longer have smokers in my area and I am not going to smoke anymore, so I don't think I will repeat this. But these have worked very well with the beautiful stainless steel inlays from Luie.

As you may have seen I did it with cast aluminium but you need a thicker bottom for those.
If you ever want to make one I can make you a machined casting.

That's a spin-off from the last one I did because it will go to a relative of the people that received it. I had asked them to provide the wood, not knowing what they would come up with.
The bark on it is quite beautiful but I'm concerned the Pine will crack before I'm done, or shorty after that.

Nice job Huw! Love the idea. Have been thinking of doing a pipe ashtray for my dad, just have to find some thick cork for knocking the ash from the bowl on, so as not to damage the rim of the pipe. Great idea for the steel plate. Keep up the great work!

I'm sure your brother is going to love them Huw, even with the holes ! Maybe I dreamed it but I'm sure I've heard of a type of Forstner bit where you can unscrew the point once the hole has been established. If it was a dream someone needs to invent it because those little divots are a pain. I always use the superglue and masking tape trick to temporarily attach two pieces. I've just turned 5 pendants and not had one of them fly across the room and they all came off the backing plate clean and easy.
I've seen this superglue-and-tape thing but always been a wee bit wary of it. On your recommendation mate, I think I'll give it a try. Thanks!
@@MarkMcCluney I would be wary of using it to attach a bowl blank but for small items it certainly works. Good luck.
Hi Myk, Thanks very much my friend. I'm not going to tell him. LOL. I have a vague recollection of a flat bottomed Forstner bit but not one where you unscrew the pointy bit. They are a huge pain especially if you are trying to get a thin bottom to the piece.
