One of the greatest country songs ever written. Period.
Wow what a powerful song! As a father of 5 and being active duty US NAVY this song hits me hard. To all those men out there who are working hard to give your kids a better life remember they are a GIFT not an obligation. All to often we take that for granted. We need men in this country to build strong, God fearing children who are driven to do the same when they are grown.

I was fortunate to meet this man twice this summer in MT. He recognized my friend from texas. But I told him this song was exactly my dads life when me and my sis where growing up. I told him if I could write music I would write the other view point to this song.

This hits real close to home with me. Working in the oil fields in ND. It's not the dollar that strives me to be out here, it's the lessons learned and trying to teach my son that you have to do what it takes to provide.

I live in the oilfields of ND. But this was man dad who was a house mover for 24 years. Only saw him two months out of the year when I was growing up. Song makes me reflect back to those times.
Jahidi2 baby girl is 1 year old and baby girl number two is due in 8 weeks. I have been away for two months now, out here trying to pay the bills in the Permian basin. Love this song. Hits close to home . God bless the working man and god bless the oilfield and the families of the men and women working it.
This song is guaranteed to hit you in the nuts every time. I know other jobs feel it too but this hits way too close to home for someone on the railroad.

my dad drove truck over the road through all my childhood and I never once doubted his love for me and we were very close til the day he died 2 years ago at age 70. Just wanted to re-assure you that children grow up unharmed by what their dads often fear will harm them.

Traveling and working hard, I missed a lot of birthdays, holidays and moments ya never get back. The stick drawings and notes are precious beyond words. But I'd trade them all to have been there to see him grow up. Now he's leaving for the army and sure to be having a family of his own. Alone I cry. In public I'm a rock. Love this guy! My wife and I were supposed go to one of his New Years' Eve concerts, but we weren't able to make it. I remember it was right after my first tour in Iraq, and my daughter (first born) came while I was deployed. This guy devoted this song to us that night. Unfortunately, we weren't able to be there because we didn't have a sitter, but he still posted it on his Facebook page. Classy guy and phenomenal artist!

Adam Tesch Pat Green cut it and had a #1 hit on the Texas charts with it. I like Zane's version better but songwriting pays the bills too. I know he's happy for Pat as well as himself.
