We stopped exchanging gifts many many years ago. It made all the holidays far more pleasant. No one has to go fight the crowds. We just get together and eat food and enjoy each others company. Small kids still get stuff, but older kids get money. Life is so much easier this way.
The “body on autopilot” resonates with me. Reminds me of the time I misplaced a bag of Christmas gifts, and found it in the freezer 😳 (fortunately the same day).
Yes! A friend and I often cut flowers from our gardens and gift those to one another. No cost involved. Just the joy of walking around, choosing flowers and foliage and tying them together with a rubber band, then wrapping in used paper. The thought is the most important thing. We all have far too much stuff, that's for sure. I love your videos so much. They really inspire me 💖
Hello there Miss Heart. I live in Scotland and came upon your channel by chance. I was do intrigued to see how you would get on that I have literally binge watched every single episode. What an amazing transformation....not just in your beautiful home, but in yourself. It is so lovely and refreshing to see your personality and honesty shining through. I suffer from mental health issues and have been having a bad time recently. But I have found myself cheering you on with all the progress you have made :) I'm so very excited to see an area in your basement dedicated to your crafting supplies. I can envision shelves with labelled bins and a huge crafting table for your imagination to run wild 😜 Keep being you and I look forward to watching your future videos. God bless Much love from Angela in Scotland xxxxxx
I’ve been following you forever and I am so THRILLED on how far you’ve come! I remember the 2019 video but oh my gosh you’re doing so well!! I am so happy seeing you so happy! You even sound like your heart is lighter! We love you! Great job!
I really needed the reminder that it doesn't have to be all in one day today. I've been putting a lot of pressure on myself to get it all done right now I have a lot of thing I need to get done I marked like 10 of them off today but still have 20 more
Quality time over material things is actually very much a minimalist mindset. So proud of you! I am just decluttering official papers while watching your video and it gives me strenght. We got this!! 🤗❤
Ohhhhh yayyyy!!! I love hearing that I’m doing minimalist things and I don’t even realize it!!! Lol And I’m cheering you on as you go through your papers 📣🦄💜🌟
I sure did! We're on Warp Drive decluttering, on a Level 1 Hoarding house, due to Relocation.... I tackled Attic #1. Hallelujah 😍💝. Trashed so much that was truly trash. I'm SO proud!!! Donating rest of items. ONLY keeping heirloom baby crib.
It’s hard to reject or return a gift from someone. Maybe you can ask to very close family members or friends to dontate to shelters on your behalf instead of buying you a gift (especially when they don’t know if you need something specific). Holding on stuff you don’t use simply because they are gifted will hoard your house but i think that the emotional baggage is way more problematic than the hoard itself. It creates guilt from something you personally didn’t even want. By the way, in all of your older vlogs we saw your struggles when you held stuff. Now your hands are so quick while decluttering that you are doing voiceovers 😍 your progress is truly incredible. We are proud of you 🌷
I agree! It also helps to be vocal about what you actually need or will use. For example, I need new shoes so I asked for a gift card to the shoe store for my birthday.
Gift giving can also be changed to perishables! A batch of brownies or even a veggie tray with things cut out in pretty shapes. or when a bouquet of flowers! This builds in an expiration date!
🐈 We adopted an adult cat a few years ago (he’s 10 now) and another two years ago (he’s 5). They’re our kids’ first furry pets, and they DO add joy to our home. I’m glad you have Pepper. 😁 Anyway, I love seeing your progress. I remember the first video(s) of your laundry room. Your “before” this time was pretty average for clutter that accumulates sometimes. Your “after” looked so good. I’m very happy for you. 😊
Every time I watch a video from you I can't believe how far you have come! I have watched your channel from almost the beginning but this time was really impressive how fast you did your laundry room and how quick you can make decisions! Wow!! Great job again!
You don’t need to stop gift giving especially if it’s your main love language. Gifts for outings like the zoo or cooking class or swimming, flowers, food, deserts, these are all gifts that will be used up so won’t clutter the house. You can tel your family and friends these are the gifts you want now.
Long time watcher but first time commenter here! I really can’t wait to see that craft declutter video. I feel like you’ve been talking about it since I started watching at the beginning of the pandemic. Whenever you’re ready to do it, I’m ready to watch! I appreciate the perspective you give while you clean, and explanations of your thoughts. I’m very far on the opposite end of the spectrum from you (I feel like from the few tidbits we know about you that we essentially lead opposite lives 😂) and it’s so interesting to hear you explain the way your brain has encouraged you to hold onto so much. Very glad to see your continued progress and grateful for your continued candor!
My husband and I get gift cards for restaurants. I get gift cards for thrift stores. We give money. I practice my crafts on old clothes, newspapers, and magazines. Set limits. Tina, Al's wife
You go girl!!! You are rocking this!! I was watching a video on simple trick for home management. I am trying to incorporate them into my every day life. Hth. 10 Simple life tips 1. Don’t put it down, put it away. 2. Make your bed. (The last of my priorities) 3. Automate your money. 4. Declutter as you go. 5. Maximum of 3 items on to do list. 6. Eat real food and stay hydrated. 7. Take breaks. Use a timer. Work a block, break. 8. Clean before you break. Do a quick tidy, so it isn’t a mountain to climb when you start back up. 9. Don’t overthink. Just do. 10. Avoid stuff spots. Have a place for everything. Not preaching, because I am trying to incorporate these into my day to day. Take care!!
December 2023. Today I tossed a bunch of old plastic pieces I wasn't using. I have a pile for Goodwill. I need to add some dishes to the pile. Tina, Al's wife
It looks so good!! Something that I have been finding helpful for myself is incorporating eco-friendly or frugal "rules" for myself. For example, I recently noticed that my soy candles from Target and from a local company came in ceramic bowls and jars. When the candle burns down, I'm left with a container I don't particularly want. Then it's a process of putting the item in the freezer, chipping out the wax, pulling out the wick that is glued on the bottom, peeling the sticker off, etc, so that I can dispose of it responsibly. In order to donate the ceramic bowl I need to wash it to donate so someone might actually maybe buy it from Goodwill. And if the candle jar came with a plastic lid, then that's just garbage. From now on, I'm only buying natural beeswax candles and burning them in candle holders I already have. Its better for the environment, better for my health, and cuts out all the wasted time and energy of having to figure out how to dispose of the container the candle came in. I'm trying to be more eco friendly and ethical with clothing as well; cutting down on purchasing anything new and using ebay and Poshmark, or only buying from sustainable companies that use organic cotton. Does it always work? No, not always. Does it make me think twice about buying an item and possibly needing to deal with how to get rid of that item if I don't like it? Yup! Its mental energy to be more intentional about purchases, but it saves the mental energy of how to clean it/ get rid of it in the future. In addition, my mom and sister are of a similar decluttering mindset - my sister is a naturally frugal "minimalist" (not serious /minimalist/) who has no problem getting rid of things. My mom, like me, is a hoardy crafty artist type and we are both very sentimental about objects. For Christmas, my mom gets me things like honey, soap, and gift certificates to restaurants. And I'm not kidding when I say that my sister went to Whole Foods and found various food items she thought I would enjoy and wrapped them haha. When I got a new apartment my mom gifted me a secondhand pasta strainer and my sister found a huge Pyrex mixing bowl at a thrift store (that I LOVE). Its a very fortunate situation to have people around you who understand your mission and gift accordingly 😂 Anyways, I thought I would share in the event that you find these "systems" useful for the future :)
Melissa! Thank you, from another creative, chaotic person. You're tips has really helped me to organize and declutter. One small easy thing first to thinking of how to make the organizing easy and near at hand!
I can really see the gradual progress each time you work on a space, it's much better than previously. It's wonderful that you are keeping up and continually working on change. Great job!
Excellent! You have made such amazing strides. Your decision making is quick, you are putting like with like, labeling and keeping it near where it is used!! You are so helpful and inspiring to so many people!
How about combine gift giving/recieving with quality time? Ask your friends for gift cards for your favorite coffee place/pizza place etc. and go there together. Or they do some crafts with you. This is great becaue you will use up more stuff and having a good time.
You've come a long way, it's amazing every time you do this you improve upon your organising categories. One thing I think you should consider is that if there is a spot that is a "hotspot" put a container in that spot. Once the container is full, that's the trigger to do something about it. We all have hotspots, what we need is some cue or trigger to do something about it before it overflows an area.
Wow that was amazing. Your decluttering muscles 💪 and organising sills are to be admired. Well done 👏 the laundry room looks beautiful. Love Miss Pepper supervising and checking everything out she’s adorable. Stay safe and healthy. Mary, Joes wife 👏👍💪🙏💐🥳🦄
I enjoy your videos so much! I love how gentle and patient you are with yourself and others. Your kind words and understanding attitude are refreshing. I find your videos inspiring and uplifting. I also love how Pepper is always in them now. (So cute!) Thank you for your honesty in sharing your journey with the world. You are encouraging to so many! I wish you the very best!
July 2024. I'm not able to drive for a few weeks. We only buy groceries and things we need. You don't need to decorate every space in your home, honest. Tina, Al's wife
What a beautiful space at the end of the video! I’m amazed at how quickly that happened! Would you consider doing a full home tour some time? I absolutely love your style.
Do you think that when one has many book shelves &/or shelving units & other storage cabinets that we keep more stuff than we use or need ??? Something to ponder….. For I think some people do! Good declutter, keep going! Look forward when get back to the bsmnt!
It is nice to give someone a gift tho why not give the gift of your company by taking them for coffee or a meal or going to the movies with your sibling or bestie , etc, etc thats shows much greater love & is a experience you’ll always remember sharing❣️🇨🇦😉
Awesome job.🐇🐤🐑✌🙏 my sis has a problem with getting rid of things people have given her. Some people have passed away or moved away. I am praying for her daily..💗🙏🐑
When it comes to gifts FOR ME - I ask for consumables! Food, a gift card or soap! I use it up and it's GONE! I never want anything that I have to dust or find a place to store in my home! We don't even exchange birthday gifts anymore! Instead, we go out for a coffee or for lunch! No gifts required!
What has helped me is getting rid of things that have a flat surface therefore you don't end up with so much clutter....example shelves, open cabinets, etc. Like take out that huge white cubby shelf. It'll help get rid of clutter. Great job.
You are amazing! What progress. My mom’s love language was gift giving and Marie Kondo in her first book really helped me with the idea of sending on the gifts to someone else. She said the joy of the gift was in the giving and the giver loves you and would not want to burden you with more stuff.

Your laundry room looks amazing! I am so impressed by your progress and how much easier it is for you now. Rewatching some of your earlier videos for inspiration for my Monica closet...I mean room...and it's so cool to see the changes in you and your process. Once again, thank you for showing us all that it's ok and we can do this too, one tiny step at a time.
Wow! The laundry looks amazing now! I remember the first time-now you went like a pro on it! :) If I can drop a kind of challenge or just a thing to try out...Just before you showed the smaller bins where you divided the items that needed to be put away in their "homes", I though, that it might be maybe a nice idea to put 1 o 2 smaller baskets at the beginning of the counter-shelf, so that you could drop there any "random" things. And when it would be full, you could take this basket and put away the things inside in they proper place. Maybe you could try it out, e.g.for 2-4 weeks, and see if you like it? You are doing great, and you sound so more calm, aware, and happy! Love all your hard work and how much you've accomplished. You are a true inspiration, Mr Heart! Bless you and your lovely family:) 🦄✨🤩
Maybe you should learn this. OHIO meaning "only handle it once"! Remember that and your home will be more organized once you have systems in place. You are doing a great job.
One tiny thing I do to avoid bringing in clutter is to not buy candles in glass jars. I look for minimally packaged candles and put them in votive holders or mason jars or whatever I already own. Less to bring home & less to throw out! Farmers' markets and craft fairs are great sources.
Have you thought about stacking those two white shelves (with proper bracing/ attachment, of course). It would take the storage vertical and leave less surface area available to clutter up! It would also free up floor space. Just a thought!
Pepper's eyes are awesome😍🥰

Your superpower is self awareness. We would all be lucky to be even half as self aware. It's a thing of sublime beauty.

Or if there’s something she really needs / wants ask for it as a gift (means waiting for it and that will prove that you actually want / need it).
Gift giving can also be changed to perishables! A batch of brownies or even a veggie tray with things cut out in pretty shapes. or when a bouquet of flowers!

This is so my jam. I love getting and gifting local honey or nice bars of soap that I pick up when I travel different places (as an example).
I love when someone is giving me his time to have a good conversation instead of a material gift. So give a friend your time to listen. Kind regards.

Aww the slow blinks from Pepper make me happy. Great job decluttering and organizing. It looks nice and peaceful.
Looks so much better!

You have such nice craft things that you could open a little shop and sell it. Seriously! Huge difference in your laundry room!

Good job with your decluttering and cleaning up love from Eugenie your friend xxx from Australia 😁💚

Lol!! RIGHT!! Seriously that’s huge 😅 Thank you love 🦄💜🌟🙏🏻💖

Maybe you should learn this. OHIO meaning "only handle it once"! Remember that and your home will be more organized once you have systems in place. You are doing a great job.
Good job, I don't even know you so to say what I'm proud of you!
Beautiful:D
One tiny thing I do to avoid bringing in clutter is to not buy candles in glass jars. I look for minimally packaged candles and put them in votive holders or mason jars or whatever I already own. Less to bring home & less to throw out! Farmers' markets and craft fairs are great sources.
Have you thought about stacking those two white shelves (with proper bracing/ attachment, of course). It would take the storage vertical and leave less surface area available to clutter up! It would also free up floor space. Just a thought!
Maybe your in-progress projects could live in some of the cubbies in the laundry room if you free up some space in your big craft rehaul.
no tossy tossy pile!!!x
