I literally have never seen a dodge dakota not rotted out my whole life untill a month ago, it was like seeing heaven there was no rot holes in it i couldnt believe it.
I live in Arizona. I have rarely seen a Dodge Ram or Dakota with a lot of rust on it. The dash is always a crumbling mess, because we live on the surface of the sun, but cars don’t really rust here…
I remember my grandma having a Ram Charger when my stepdad was a kid, and when she was running errands, she went into a store only to return to the Ram Charger on fire. Let's just say most of my family don't gravitate towards Dodge's.
Burned Ram was 2500* note the plastic dash melted to passenger side door, had to have flipped onto its side and caught fire. Both of those Dakotas had spring shackles intact! Holy moley.
Last Sunday I saw one that was worse than any of these in a salvage yard. I think it was possibly the most rusty vehicle I’ve ever seen that hadn’t broken in half from frame rot. It was a RAM 2500 and I wish I took some photos. I also saw a couple GMT400S with broken frames between the cab and bed.
The only good thing about those 3 trucks was the weights inside the first one ;) As far as which one wins, I would say number 2. That driver's side rear wheel arch gave me a good laugh! :D
It’s impressive that the Dakota had that much rot with so little mileage. Maybe it was used in a salt mine or parked in a tidal plane? You guys are near Ocean right? Or maybe it was crap when it was built.
Yeah, I don’t see how they can say that…. Maybe it’s not the same everywhere, but the most common “older” truck in Arizona (Cars and Trucks don’t rust here, so it comes down to mechanical issues here) is the GMT 400, otherwise known as the “OBS”. Chevy/GMC C/K 1500. They are everywhere down here! I currently own 3 myself at this time, and my five kids own another 6 between them. Collectively, we own several of the newer generation GM trucks, as well, but nothing we’ve found is as cheap/easy/readily available as the ‘88-‘98 (‘99, for the SUV’s) GM truck platforms.
in 1999 a Dakota V8 was 1 of 3 vehicles on my buy list ... but they refused to build me one w 5 sp manual. I'm SO glad I went w choice #2, a build - ordered Chevy Blazer 2 dr V6 5 speed, I still have it, rust - free 👍
@@daveh2612I think he’s trying to say it was one of those beaters that gets left on some wilderness property, somewhere, where the owner doesn’t register or insure it. It gets left outside near a cabin or trailer. Every so often the owner brings a fresh battery and a few gallons of gas, starts it up, then takes it into the woods to go hunting. I’ve had a few of those over the years (An ‘85 Wrangler and a ‘90 Cherokee) after a few years they became more trouble than they were worth, to keep running, due to lack of maintenance. Now I just tow my hunting “beater” (Currently an enclosed Polaris Ranger 4door sideXside) up to my cabin up north. That way I know it’s going to run, and I’m not going to spend half a day working on it to get it running.
