- This Nintendo Switch tested my patience to the limit. I nearly gave up on it 2 times. I thought it was going to be simple, a nice little chip install, but no it was sent to test me. I hope you enjoy watching my pain, even the Switch itself decided to troll me. Kindly sent in by Tom along with the GameBoy Color that I did in another video.

Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.
Spoiler Saver and 2 interesting completely useless facts
One single teaspoon of honey represents the life work of 12 bees.
It’s impossible for you to lick your own elbow (I guarantee you will immediately try that)
the bee is an interesting creation of all creations (including humans) from ALLAH you could search for it in the Quran if you want
How did you know 😳
thank you for the spoiler saver, youtube’s layout ruins it
Great video, Vince! Glad you resistor-ed the temptation to give up on this one! 😅
😂 Cheers Steve, glad to see PunStixFix back in action!
"stupid resistors!" 🤣
I’m waiting for Steve to say “solid” any time I see someone checking connections after switching a charge port and checking connections. Bit disappointed that Vince didn’t, but seeing Steve’s comment made up for it.
“ic” Steve’s doing the “circuit” doing his jokes, he’s lost “track” in life, I’m surprised he has the “capacity” to resist any longer 😊
stupid tiny resisstor thing
And Vince proofs once again that he has overcome the dark, cold days as the "Switch Killer"
I don't care what anyone says. Vince is absolutely an amazing technician. To all those people who call him "switch killer" I'd love to have seen them troubleshoot this.
It's amazing how far you've come with your repairs. I remember tuning into you when you were first starting out and to think of what you can now do. It's very impressive.
and he used a cookie tin to layout the pieces he was working on :)
I got a genuine smile on my face when that charging symbol came on it's why I love engineering it's the puzzle and the simple reward of a little light coming on
Fantastic job!!! That was really resisting repair! Love the reaction on success lol
😂 It certainly was, did everything it could to NOT be repaired !!!!!!!!
great entertaining vid vince as always ;-) i have loved your reaction too nice to see that all your work payed off in the end and now im looking forward to your next rolls royce vid :D greetings from zurich switzerland 😀@@Mymatevince
What an absolute JOURNEY mate. Well done! ❤❤
Thank you Joey! 👍👍
Fantastic fault-finding, Vince - your perseverance is exemplary. All of that from that one tiny resistor, though? "It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing."
Great fix, really goes to show how far you've come. You are now a switch repair expert 😎
That's what I love about your videos, you never give up, pleas never give up, it is the best, to see you struggling and finally getting that genuine YES that we all wait for
This one has comparable resilient spirit as the ps4 no display fix, which you ended up fixing the coil in the emi filter. Really enjoyed watching it and congrats!
I love, love, love your enthusiasm when you fix it. Amazing stuff, and a joy to watch. Thanks for the entertainment!
So glad to see you under the hood again, truly a great Christmas gift.
Great Job Vince 👍 Persistence paid off. Funny how it's usually just 1 tiny component that stops it from working. I just had the same with a SSD I just repaired.
Result! You’re perseverance is impressive. Regards from stateside.
WOW, just WOW.... I can't imagine how much time this repair took. But the end result is remarkable. Another great video from our mate Vince 🙂 🤘
that was really fun to watch your absolute unbridled excitement... that feeling is what keeps me interested in fixing stuff..... the joy...
Thanks Vince, love your work :)
NO TOWEL THROWN...IN. "IT'S ALIVE. IT'S ALIVE.... So terrific. Great video.
Vince! I love your switch vids. Been with ya since the switch killer 1-2 hour vids. They’re classic. Keep rolling brother.
Thank you buddy 👍
Great work with the air station, flux and perseverance!
Congratulation Vince. I would not find the problem. You did a very good search with a brilliant skill. I am jealous 😉👍🏆
I just wanna say, i remember watching you 6 years ago doing switch tutorials and i'd watch you over and over again. So happy to see you uploading again!
Great work 👏
Great fix, captivated for 45mins! Love your channel, Vince :)
Nice one bud! Really enjoyable video, glad you stuck with it. With that weird multimeter jumping around thing, if you take it off Auto Range I think by pressing the Range button would stop that happening and give you a reading
As StezStix Fix says, "Get in there!" Great job Vince!
What a great video Vince. A pure pleasure. Lower the air speed Vince. I work with 15% air flow
An Epic Tale! Good on ya, Mate! Hard work will never betray you, and that was a toughy.
My mate Vince. You still are able to amaze me. I probably would have thrown the towel long time. Great work!
Amazing fixes Vince. Your determination was key and this surely helps you in terms of experience for future repairs
This is what a fix it video should be all about. If it was to just replace a port or single chip to fix then class it as an easy fix and you wouldn’t learn anything new.
Having to diagnose issues gives greater insight and learning about what you are fixing.
Well done Vince, nailed it in the end!
Love it when Vince gets excited. Vince you proved to yourself never give up and you will always win. Great fix M8.
For some reason I LOL'd when we came back to a herd of PCBs on the mat shortly after the amazing escaping components, have to say I really admire the persistence and congrats on the fix. I almost swept up and binned the guts of one of those cheapy plastic clock movements that was playing up when I decided to open it up and they spilled out but considered the lengths you go to sometimes and stuck with it.
Someone on RUclips loves you. Everyday I was getting videos of yours as recommendations and I was like, why do I get this? 😂 So I started watching one. Then another, then another. Been working in the night shift all week and watched a lot of them. I really enjoy your videos and are relaxing as well. Also love when you get excited when something starts working properly after a long battle. Great videos and great job.
Thank you! Also nice to know RUclips pushed me out there 👍👍👍
@@Mymatevince cheers from Spain
I think the weird reading you were getting on the last resistor was due to the small voltage that the meter puts out, when reading ohms, might have been switching the "mosfet" on and off creating that fluctuating ohm reading. Just my guess anyway thank you for another wonderful video
What a determination! It’s really motivating to see your spirit and joy in this one.. keep up the good work!!💪
This episode was brilliant, too many ups and downs to country but you still figurer it out at the end, a proper my mate Vincent video!❤
But don't forget to add the timelapses with classical music from time to time, i'm 32 and really loves those moments aswell, thank you for your videos ❤❤❤
I'm seriously impressed by your perseverance. It was also a fun video to watch. It must be especially difficult attempting a repair such as this without a schematic. But tell me, if an electronics shop took an equal amount of time to perform this repair, how much would it have cost? To me, this is proof that handheld electronics like this are in practice disposable items -- keep 'em for the duration of the warranty, and then replace.
Great to see these vids, glad you found what was wrong!
Can we please get a link (and/or it's name) to that USB-C port plug-in port tester thing you showed being used to test each pin @19:08? Thank you!
Vince just a couple of tips for you. when soldiering IC use more flux, then the chip will pull into place. Secondly when cleaning the circuit board do not quench it with IPA the rapid change in temperature can cause ceramic capacitors and other components like IC to microfracture, always allow the circuit board to cool down first. I see many RUclipsrs do this and it's not the correct way.🙂
We're learning more and more about how the Switch behaves.
- What the circuit board physically needs to even turn on
- The Initial pathways branching from the USB connector
- The video chip with relation to the USB connection
- And now, the pathway from the USB power to the fuse to the resistor array to the main controller chip.
All of this that took hours, days, to diagnose and rectify, all summed up in one video.
Brilliant fix Vince well done with your perseverance, you are officially no longer “ Vince the switch killer” 10/10 😊
"I'm gonna have to come back to this tomorrow." Famous last words wherein 5 minutes you go right back to it cause it shouldn't be this damn hard to figure out 😂.
Great video glad you stuck to it to get it working lot of other people would have given up trying to fix it !!!
I have watch a few dozen of your videos but this one is my favourite so far. What entertainment nice one
Message from the Nintendo switch - "i'll get you next time" Frigging Genius. Really enjoyed watching all that...
Another great video vince!
Ps your channel inspired me to fault find my washer dryer that wasnt drying. Found an open thermal cutout (resettable type) and hey presto! Thanks vince.
I can tell you've had enough of these, you're normally excited when the problem turns out not to be an easy one. Great vid.
Wow, what a rollercoaster that was. Your vids are certainly hard to resist.
This was great to watch. Thank you. Could not have done this myself. I don't know anything about boards but, I know what you did to fix this Switch.
What a great fix! Long video but you didn't give up! Glad you got it fixed!
Very well done Vince 🎉, Considering I had issues seating the M92 chip, there was no way I would have fixed this.
Also, thank you for the lessons in your videos, I really appreciate you explaining why things may not have worked when I tried 👍
I may dabble in microaoldering in the future, now that i see where i went wrong 😁
Great persistence with this one, it was a great watch!
Nice fix, Vince :)
You can heat the board from under M92 if you are afraid of knocking over some components. And i use a lot of flux to keep it there until the board heats up. That goes for the USBC port, too.
Charging issues can also be solved by replacing the BQ chip.
I feel so bad to find your frustration so hilarious 😂 that filter jumping counting and you just want to pack it up and send it 😂
Do you know the value of that resistor?
Great entertaining video and so happy you made it work!
Cheers Anders. I don't know the value, I think when my meter does that weird thing it means it is in between ranges so it didn't settle on the resistance. The other Fluke meter is in the Rolls Royce so I couldn't test it with that 👍
probably less than a penny for 20 of those chips (factory cost)
@@MymatevinceIf you manually pick a range from the ones it's cycling between when it does that it will probably be able to decide on a value.
Well done sir! You are not the Switch killer anymore!
Great and satistying YES! moments :)
Certainly tested your persistence, but also gave back good results.
Vince the problem with the fan was actually a bad Bearing
Totally worth watching at 2x speed for the excited yes, yes, yes 🤣
Brilliant result, I'm in awe.
Let’s hope that you’ll get 1 million subscribers by the end of the year, Vince.
Amazing determination and skills! The video was intense, but the result in the end paid off!
Congratulations on fixing the switch.
The switch killer has redeemed himself.
Great job with that chip Vince.
After spending a couple of hours trying to change thumbsticks on an Xbox controller I've figured out the problem. I was using a cheap (under GB£6) soldering iron, when I used my lovely Yihua soldering iron the job was so much easier. Lesson learnt for me: use decent quality tools🤣🤣
The Yihua was £40 and my hot air station was £30, so not silly money, and they both work great.
Was a difficult repair, but your persistance paid off 💪
Great job!
massive thumbs on this 1. Possibly your best fix (apart from the R2D2). Hard to believe something so small would send this to the landfill.
Amazing result! Love the process and the roller coaster of emotions we went through with you!
Vince, it's wonderful to hear the excitement in your voice when you finally have your pay-off. All your efforts were not in vain. Well done!
Fuiste más resistente que la resistencia 😂 mi enhorabuena ❤
Great video, love your enthusiasm.
Nice, I love long videos like that.
Good work!
well done i admire you for not giving up on that nintendo switch great video
Wicked job on repairing the Nintendo Switch and just a question, can you restore vintage hi fi separates amplifiers and receivers?
Nice video as always.
Your *SLOW* multimeter is driving me crazy.
I know it gets the job done but please consider buying a faster one.
Keep up the good work 👍
Switch killer he says... Please... more like Switch whisperer.
Hahaha, thank you Nandi, appreciate that 👍👍
Awesome repair :) I would love to be able to fix stuff like this but I cant
The other things on the board would probably have given you issues (the filter, the crappy-looking USB C port) but you addressed them before the charging issue. But just the same, great work!
Great job Vince. Proves having a spare around is not a bad idea. Those tiny resistors don't show any signs of physical damage painted black like that. The old through hole types were much easier to spot the damage from overheating, with the manufacturers having mostly used lighter shades of colour. Imo just using the colour black for smd resistors is a poor choice. Probably would be better if they were painted white with black values written on them.
That was a hard-won victory, Vince - cheers at your dogged persistence, it always serves you well :)
I really enjoyed this video and how challenging it was to find the issue
I hope you keep the good work and never give up 🎉🎉❤
Another Epic episode what with you and @StezStixFix, are you both in competition this week to see who's fix is the hardest? 😅 great job x 👏 👍
You Legend! Fabulous result keep these vids coming
Hey Vince, have you ever thought of ordering some soldering tweezers? I’ve seen north ridge fix use them and In cases like 17:23 I feel like they could have come in useful instead of using hot air and heating the whole board you can grab and heat only the resistor with the soldering tweezers. It could also come in useful if you’re removing components near plastic parts as you won’t have to worry about melting them with hot air.
They're very expensive. - Not to say Vince can or cannot afford it, but I guess it depends on how many of these 0201 size components he does.
Hello Vince, I’m just wondering what soldering iron you have or have any recommendations on a affordable one to possibly get. Thanks and love your videos.
Great video dude! Well done
Well done, that man. Perseverance pays off.
I bought myself a Nintendo Switch and some games as a treat. I really wanted to play Mario Wonder. Well blow me I had a full on seizure playing it. Haven't had a seizure for years. So it's back in the box and in the cupboard, going to wait 20 years and see how much it's worth, or I could take it all apart and have a good look inside. Nice vid.
Nice video and amazing fix. Your determination is unrivalled 😅
Amazing level of dedication. Wow!
What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.
Well done Vince!
Thank you Shawn!
So much can be learned from this one video...maybe what you found out will be written for troubleshooting steps based on issue.
19:17
That thing is awesome!
i should say it is very informative to see your videos sir big respect and great love 🥰❤️
"Ooohyeaaaah. On a blue mat. Gonna wick it all awaaayaaaaah...." Eddie Leadder
Congratulations 🎉 what a well deserved victory 😊👍🏻💐
i enjoy watching board work
you can feel the sweet taste of victory when it finally works ...
Glad you didn't give up 👍🏻 well done
No he's out of hiding,it's the return of phantom switch killer of old London town .
