You just gained my subscription with this amazing work of perseverance. Love when people really put effort into repairing things instead of changing everything straght ahead
Vince, thank you. I bought a faulty NS that had a faulty charge port, upon removing the old charge port, the whole bottom row of solder pads were missing, so I just put a new charge port on it and thought *sod it, aslong as it charges*. But with it being an unpatched version, I know it has slightly more value than a patched version. Anyways, I've got all 12 bypass wires on the hidden pins of the charge port, tomorrow I will fit it and hopefully I'll have a fully working charge port. And thanks to you, I know where to solder ALL those bypass wires now. I did use an old NS board with all pads intact, just to double check, and you're spot on. Thanks again. 👍
👏👏👏 Amazing job, Vince! When you were working on the charge port, I could just hear Louis Rossmann saying "Paul queue!" over and over. Your perseverance is very admirable!
The switch videos are always great to see, especially as someone who doesn’t own one because it’s just another chance to get a glimpse at something cool that I’ll be unlikely to hold in my own hands. Keep making them all you want!
Absolutely brilliant work on the USB part of the Switch, understood what you were saying in the diagram about the tracers from the pins. Love it when a fists up Hurray or Hurrah comes up and everything working. I'm just beginning to catch up with all your brilliant videos, thank you so much for not making my night shifts not so unbearably boring, learning a lot off you too.
On USB-C, the CC lines are used to detect the orientation of the plug. The chip you call a "video chip" is actually a USB3 multiplexer chip that's used to route the signals to one set of pins or the other.
Just WOW. Unbelievable hard fix with that USB port jumping all them tiny wires, and yet you did it. I was wowing with you when it docked:) :) loved it. Such an emotional and on top of the edge fix!!!!!

I can easily imagine how tricky that solder work can be. Glad you persevered. It is stuff like this that teaches you the most. Good job. Now seeing all these videos makes me want to go back and finish one of my early learn to solder projects which was a little radio. I don't remember how I did it but I lost one of the pads but now I see so many of you showing how to run wires and I am working with the old through hole components that soldering should be a cakewalk compared to what you just accomplished.
great job on the usb repair, very impressive work! your trying to fix videos are all extremely illuminating and make me feel like broken electronics can (almost) all be fixed with skill, the right parts, and a boatload of dedication.
Hey Vince, love your videos. I have several switches that all have the same problem. They work as handhelds but cannot dock just as you describe. I have a feeling I will need to copy your diagram and run wires from the hidden pins on the USB to their spots on the board. Looks to be a 10/10 difficulty fix but seeing your job at the end gives me inspiration. Cheers!
Conductive paint is useless for this job, particularly this type of conductive paint (it's just PVA with a supposed silver fill) the resistance is too high even over short spans.... useless for a capacitive touch screen ribbon repair... even if the repair was perfect the resistance would introduce other issues. to fix properly it's the same as usual, solder and fine wire, done. conductive paint is maybe passable for keyboard repairs or other carbon based tracks that can't be soldered to but again this stuff is so poor you have to add superglue over the top once the silver stuff has "dried" otherwise it will just wipe off and/or degrade.
Could have also painted tracks for the HDMI CHARGING PORT had there been a fine enough Brush, me personally I would have used a bamboo Tooth Pick, mind you painting on tracks are pointless if the conductive paint cant be soldered too, and My Mate did say his paint was cheap.. so yeah - sigh...
This was so satisfying to watch. It’s crazy how far you‘ve come over the course of your ‚trying to fix‘ videos! It‘s super encouraging to see. Is there some kind of open source database where people submit their pinout/trace finding on the switch? It would be cool to get proper schematics going.
Excellent result, for someone untrained as an electronics engineer I am very impressed with your skill and dedication for the win. Could maybe do with a smaller tip on your iron, but how can I fault this extremely skillful repair...Well done...As for doing too many switches, better to be an expert in one thing than a jack of all trades and you are one of the go to's on youtube by now I would imagine for the repair of these. But I watch your other repairs too, especially the B and O stuff and you have a very logical mind, so seem to think through most stuff to a good result. Nice to see repair still happening when manufacturers like Nintendo and Apple do all they can to make it just about impossible to repair their stuff, so you'll buy your crying child a new one, thus upping their revenues. Shame on you Nintendo and Apple, we must repair what we have, not use up the earth til theres nothing left so you can profit endlessly...
What a great video, you put some seroius work into that, and your reaction at the end was an absolute joy to behold, well done mate, thanks for entertaining us, and keep up the good work!
