⁣This is a version of a common test used in offices all over the place to see if there is irritation to the sciatic nerve. The slump test is generally seated, this is slightly different, standing on one leg. A person would want to check both sides, alternating which leg they are standing on. ⁣

The point of the test is to check for lumbar nerve root impingement or irritation. A test is considered positive when it produces pain, or burning down the leg. This could be a sign of sciatica. Sciatica is pressure on the nerve that causes radiating/burning. You can sometimes reduce the pain temporarily by doing a QL massage/stretch and/or hip flexor stretch to decompress that side. ⁣

Ultimately, exploring both sides of the body and noticing differences may be helpful in terms of stretching/massaging for pain relief. This video is just a test. It’s not meant to be repeated. If you have pain when you do this there is no benefit or doing it repeatedly to continually check to see if the pain is still there. People tend to do that when they have pain. It often just leads to more anxiety/fear/discomfort and doesn’t benefit the person.
