Gould liked his chair nice and low and Sokolov prefers it nice and high. He is an amazing artist.

What is that device in Sokolov's second recital and what is its use?

It is level, the device for checking the horizontal position. He felt that the piano was not standing horizontally and this was very disturbing for him.

It amazes me this supreme pianist is all but unknown here in the USA.
BTW I thought they use only Bosendorfers in Austria.

Sokolov plays only Steinway - which has to be not older than five years.
