    Netflix has really been dropping the ball, it's disappointing. I'm not as interested in their Lifetime channel level originals as much as they seem to think.
    But Hulu is picking up the slack. So glad you talked about The Devil's Candy. Such an underrated gem.
    Amazon Prime is a treasure trove for horror fans and I don't get why people are sleeping on their massive selection.
    Also, HBO Max is winning at everything. Jaws 2 is one of my faves. It might not work for you but I'd say give the watch and hate it later.

    I loved the original fright night too, if you enjoyed that, check out night of the creeps (1986) My other recommendation is The Orphan (2009) which flew under the radar, I just checked and it's available on Prime Video. Love Clue and Knives Out as well. Knives Out is one of the very few movies I paid to see more than once at a theatre. It was like Clue and Arrested Development had merged into a single film.

    Great video. I know The Criterion Channel has a stuffy reputation, but there's some great 70s horror including the best version of Invasion of the Body Snatcher (1978) and for anyone who loved Midsommar they're featuring the original The Wicker Man. As for found footage looking forward to your take. Europa Report is probably my favorite found footage.

    I personally like the jump-scares in The Conjuring 1+2, I think they're good examples of how, when they're done right, they feel like adrenaline rushes, because of the build-up and how much you care about the Warrens and the families they investigate; they just end up calling attention to how poorly jump scares are done in other movies.

    23:30 Great video as always, Marianna.
    There are so many great horror movies on your list and 'Jaws' is, of course, a fantastic horror movie that has such memorable characters and scenes and even though none of the sequels can compete with the original, 'Jaws 2' is the best of that lot with some creepy scenes for sure. As with 'Jaws', 'Jaws 2' has another great score by John Williams, so that alone is a reason to see the movie.
    'Jaws 3-D' may also be worth watching to an extent (particularly if one can watch it in 3D on Blu-ray) and it takes place in a SeaWorld-type resort (What could go wrong shark-wise?). It features Louis Gossett Jr, Dennis Quaid, Bess Armstrong, and a young Lea Thompson who later played Marty McFly's mother, Lorraine, in 'Back To The Future'. However, the shark effects and other special effects leave a lot to be desired. On the bright side, it was no 'Jaws 4: The Revenge' which is truly awful and even Michael Caine couldn't salvage that picture (but he did buy a beautiful house from the salary he was paid, so kudos to Sir Maurice Micklewhite). :)

    • @ImpressionBlend
      @ImpressionBlend  4 года назад +1

      Thank you for letting me know about the sequels! I don't really expect any of them to be as good as the original, but as long as they're not awful - it could be an interesting watch ))

    • @TorontoJon
      @TorontoJon 4 года назад

      @@ImpressionBlend 'Jaws 2' is decent while 'Jaws 3-D' is about 30% awful while 'Jaws 4: The Revenge' is virtually 100% awful. Haha! Chris Stuckmann did a great review of 'Jaws 4' and roasted it royally. :)

    Truckloads of classic fare here Marianna. Finally!!! Les Yeux Sans Visage! I knew you would love this. I've been trying to get Emma over at SpookyAstronauts to watch this. She just did a whole video on disturbing French films and never mentioned it, which is a dead giveaway that she's never seen it. Eyes without a Face is one of my favorite films of all time. I am particularly struck by the way it blends horror and beauty. I'm going to do a long video on beauty in horror films eventually. (Yeah I know you won't watch it because it's too long. C'est la guerre.)
    By the way the official name for the films like Knives Out and Clue is the Whodunit genre. And this includes all those classy films and television series that would include Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie characters, Chesterton's Father Brown and lots more. A couple interesting films you might appreciate in that genre: Murder By Death is a 70's spoof on Whodunits which is really cheesy and funny and the more you know about the genre the funnier it is. AND you should look for the more recent The Best Offer, with Geoffrey Rush. This is like an art film made of Whodunit elements. And I suspect it has your name written under the marble base of a genuine Tiffany lamp. Trust me on this.

    The remake of Fright Night with Collin Farrel is a top five fave of mine

  • @Ana198
    @Ana198 4 года назад

    Love most of these films, especially Korean ones. BTW have you watched any K-Dramas, meaning Korean TV-shows? I got into them a couple of years ago and i have watched a ton. Netflix for example has quite a few. They are quite different from Korean movies with the much more strict censorship in Korea for tv-shows but none the less they are amazing. Sky Castle, Flower of Evil (this show is not on netflix but is absolutely must see), Kingdom, Secret Forest, Crash Landing on You, Extracurricular to name a few of the better ones

    • @ImpressionBlend
      @ImpressionBlend  4 года назад

      The only one I've watched was "Kingdom", which I actually need to finish - thought it was a really cool zombie series, but I got distracted by something and didn't continue for some reason.

    • @Ana198
      @Ana198 4 года назад

      @@ImpressionBlend Yeah Kingdom is kind of a weird one in that it is quite a bit shorter than most shows and usually K-dramas only have 1 season of 16-20 episodes, Extracurricular also is a shorter one since it also was made with Netflix and not the usual Korean tv companies. I must warn you if you tip your toe in that pond it will suck you in, I must have thought 50 times (not even kidding) that this will be my last K-drama in a while and then i put on the next one and i binge 16 episodes in like 3 days. While writing this i just finished one today, about to start the next one, while watching 2 that are ongoing right now in Korea. After all this crazyness started this year there is not much else to do than stay at home and watch Netflix (or other streaming services), i think i have watched over 20 k-dramas in the last 6 months. They have Covid well enough in hand in Korea that they never really stopped producing tv-shows unlike most of the world.

    Watched the original Fright Night this October a week or so ago for the first time on Prime, and I really really loved it. I don't see why you consider the remake to be terrible, though. I loved Anton and Colin's performances in the movie. Honestly I loved the ending in the Remake over the original and I didn't like the actor that turned into a Vampire in the original. I just found him extremely annoying and was really glad when he died at the end, although pretty sure that wasn't the emotion they were hoping to get.

    Okay so the Jaws sequels...
    Jaws 2 I remember watching and really liking as a kid. I remember nothing about it, so it clearly didn't leave much of an impact on me. I do remember liking the central conceit; a group of teenagers, including Brody's son, trapped in the ocean on a series of boats, and it's as much about the attempts of Brody to rescue them as well as the teenagers attempting to survive a game of "the floor is lava". Going back today, I'm sure it's the best of the sequels, but it left no impression on me. However...
    Jaws 3, aka Jaws 3D, ROCKS. It's terrible, but it's so much fun to watch. The film is basically a giant Seaworld tie in in shitty 80's 3D. It features some horrible special effects purely for the 3D shock, and ultimately functions as the worst commercial ever for a theme park, since the selling point is that Jaws might kill you, or break the park so badly that you drown. 10/10. Highly recommend. Drinks preferred.
    Jaws 4, aka Jaws: The Revenge, is one of the worst films ever made. The shark apparently has a vendetta against the Brody family for killing 3 other shark friends, so it follows them down to the Bahamas. Michael Caine is in it, who couldn't accept his Oscar for Hannah and Her Sisters because he was working on this movie. This one is also cheesy and enjoyable in a "so bad it's good" kind of way, but it's not nearly as enjoyable as Jaws 3 because (MINOR SPOILERS) Brody has died and his son is brutally killed by the shark early on, and since his mother is the main character, she cries a lot, making it more depressing than entertaining.
    So yeah; I'd say stick with 2 and 3 if you watch any of them at all, but 2 is the only one you should expect to be any good, and it is undoubtedly nothing compared to Jaws.

    I don't know if I consider this horror, but Man Bites Dog is another one that's on HBO MAX. However, It's a ****'d up film. It's about a camera crew following a serial killer committing crimes. Also I recommend Jaws: The Revenge. Just for the lolz alone. Dishonorable Mention: Cats.

    None of the Jaws sequels are nearly as good as the original but Jaws 2 is pretty decent. This sequel is definitely worth a shot. The other 2 are really, really bad. I still watch them every once in a while but just because I was big fan of shark movies when I was kid.

    Ready or not is so so good! I’ve been on a mission to find any movies with a similar vibe actually and so far I’ve watched « You’re next » and the « The baby-sitter » and they were ok but nowhere near as good. If anyone can recommend other comedy-horror movies that are actually good it would be great!
    Other than that I have only watched « Train to Busan » from the list (which I loved) and Midsommar (also loved) and wish I could handle Hereditary but not ready for that from what I’ve been hearing.^^

    I think Jaws 2 is definitely worth a watch when viewed as a fun monster movie rather than the sequel to one of the most celebrated movies ever made. Roy Scheider is a good lead as always, John Williams returns with a great energetic score, and the movie has some good set pieces. It is a decent shark movie, but unlike Alien and Aliens, Jaws 2 is not the masterpiece that the original is.
    Jaws 3 and 4 are not worth your time. Scheider isn't in those two and they replace horror and thrills with dated effects and ludicrous plots.

    JAWS is a horror film. Saw that movie way too young and it resulted in me having an ambivalence towards sharks and to this day when I enter the water at the beach I still get the heebie jeebies. JAWS and JAWS 2 are solid films, the series fell off greatly after that.
