The front slats are not to combat downforce, they are to permit the air to flow around the tires without creating too much turbulence. The vortex generator is to allow the rear wing to generate downforce by controlling laminar flow separation as the back end of the glass drops down.

Finally, a great Filipino car reviewer! I've got a Mazda 3 hatch and a Wigo that's coming to us soon so I've been looking for good reviews and I found AutoDeal and, well, this guy (Can't find your name, sorry! Was it somewhere in this video?) One wish, though. I wish the video editors would still play some low-key rock music even while he speaks, just to accentuate the badass-ness of cars like this, with rock guitar riffs at the right moments of emphasis. But that's nitpicking. :D Anyway, keep 'em coming!

Fyi the Nurburgring record Type R was not stock. It had Michelin Cup 2 tires for increased grip and a roll cage for added rigidity. Some have said the boost was also altered for more power. 😒
