I had a NorthStar Water Pump in my barn that has not been started in over 3 years. When I put it in the barn... (like an idiot)... I didn't drain the gasoline or run it dry. I didn't even have "treated gas" in the tank. So... this 4 cycle Honda engine has been sitting for 3 years with old gas in the tank. Do you think it will start??

My dad used to be a foreman for a garabage company and we were always shocked at the high dollar small engine stuff people would throw out. They wouldn't winterize it properly and the gas would get skunky and foul the plug or carbs then they'd just throw it away.. My dad would go buy a rebuild kit, new plugs and air filter and spend a hour or two swapping stuff out and usually within 4 pulls it would fire for us and run good as new. Most of the time we had two of everything and kept the best stuff and sold off the extras or gifted them to friends and family who needed new equipment. It's no wonder people LOVED my dad so much. He works for the city water div maintaining sewer and water lines.. He's still has everyone in his debt with all solids he does for others. I tell him he's like Mike Rowe doing dirty jobs and making civilized life possible for everyone else!

I had to explain what , "Doing a solid " for someone meant....Shes 73 . I grew up in Ventura county , our family was not too well off starting out , so if I wanted a bike , my uncle would go pickn at the junk yard and piece by piece , ended up with an old blue honda mini bike , then an RM 80 , then to a RM 125 , they weren't pretty but they screamed . Pops built a 55 chevy Bel-Air with a 327 vette engine from the chassis up, 7 Harleys frame to the tins. I went to a mechanic once......That was the last time....I should have been a mechanic, for those prices $$$$$ SCJMO , kinda sounds like we grew up similar in ways...Peace.

This did the trick for my pressure washer! I replaced the carburetor, fuel lines, filter and fuel with no luck. After trying this method it fired up after a few pulls. Thank you!

Those Honda motors are extremely reliable my pressure washer has a gx160 motor on it been sitting for 10 years took me 5 minutes of taking the carb apart and cleaning it out gave it a spray of starter fluid started second pull

Great video PB Blaster is what we use. My oil field buddy gives me drip gas for my weed eater and mower,for the next season start up because it is 120 something octane. I use transmission fluid to dull it out some.
Carla Rodgers drip gas is a 120 octane? A lot of gas wells here in WV produce drip gas. I had no idea the octane level was so high. How much transmission fluid do you add?
Phillip Saunders yes sir.The Panhandle Red Cave oil here in the Texas Panhandle by Masterson has good drip.I would sometimes get 15 gallons in a day. My old 66 Chevy ran great on it. 1 quart of tranny fluid to a gallon works great.
I have two generators to work on since they have been sitting for a long time, and one have a Tecumseh engine in it, and it was never started since I got it in 2000, when we lost electricity here in Arkansas. The second one is one I got from Harbor Freight and have a Chinese engine on it. That one was run a few times, but now the fuel have to be drained, and new fuel put in the tank, and try starting it using carburetor cleaner if necessary since it have been sitting unused under my shed for about two years.
3 years is really bugger all, especially for a Honda. bought a 110cc Honda that had sat for 15 years and only needed a new plug and fresh gas. Toyota corolla 4k sat for 5years in the yard, started 1st pop with no prep at all! actually 2nd pop as forgot choke 1st time but it never started without choke even when driven daily.

We have a late 1990s generac that has not been started in 7 years and it powered on and runs amazingly, but a fuse broke and we have to order new parts, it still worked for half of the night.
I try to run mine every month or 2, just to make sure it's OK.
I didnt start my Honda gx160 engine for 1 year. And it was hell to start. But mended now

Do you change the oil before or after starting the engine if it sat so long?
Probably should let it start and get the oil warm before changing it

check engine light computel for small engines is coming due to our sub standard gasoline stuff,.
wish leaded gas would come back, planet it already ruined beyond repair anyway.

If you are talking about that yellow flash to the right of the engine, it was some type of yellow tag that was on the engine.
Got any suggestions as to what to do with bad (3+yr untreated) gas? I have 5 gallons to deal with.
TheGreatDistraction go to youre local gas station or local city disposal ordinance they should tell you where you can take it for proper disposal .
Or just use it to clean carbs or clean other things that have heavy grime on them

3 years kept inside is nothing, just don't try to start it before you use clean fuel and clean off, heat up the plug, should fire right up
