  • Most small gas engines that worked the last time you used it have one problem. A plugged up carburetor. Here I show how to confirm and repair that problem.

    Watched this video yesterday as my snow blower was Erving and dying. A minute in you said what my late father always said! Compression, fuel, and ignition (spark). I realized that my previous attempt did not include a true carb cleaning. Took the 15 minutes today to clean and it then fired up. Wanted to give thanks where due!

    The silver screw bracket by the air filter is for a cable that would go up to the handlebars for the throttle.

    with today's gas, the carb is usually what is wrong,, that screw hole you mentioned is for in case you have something that has a throttle cable that is where it attaches.

    On spark: my Stihl 032 chain saw would start, run for a while, and then quit. Wouldn't start. Wait a half hour. Start, run, quit.
    It took me a while to find that the capacitor in the ignition was failing when it heated up. I found out by measuring its DC resistance cold (about 20 megohms), heating it in the kitchen oven to about 150 Fahrenheit, and measuring about 30 ohms. Mr. Stihl ought to have installed a 39-cent capacitor instead of the 19-cent one. (A replacement cap is about $37. Ain't gonna happen.)

    Great video! Helped me crank a Honda F200 tiller my grandma bought for $40 bucks! wasnt cranking at all. I sprayed some gas into the carburator opening and cranked it and it turned on for about 10 seconds and turned off. One of the valves on the carburator isnt turning and is really stuck so im guessing the air to gas ratio might be off. I think it just needs a new carb altogether.

    Thanks, great video. I have a self-propelled 6.75 Briggs & Stratton weed eater with electric start. It had sat for a year without using it, and it wouldn't start. I took it down the street to a small engine shop. After 4 months not hearing from him, I finally caught him there one morning. We looked around and found it in his pile of stuff. So he worked on it. I went to pick it up and he had taken out the battery and cables and the wires were everywhere, but it started. He said he would charge the battery and bring it to me and put it on. Never happened. Now it sits again and won't start. I can't find the right battery for it, either, and the guts where the key goes have fallen out. I think there may be something else missing, like the electric crank thing but I'm not sure. There's just some wires hanging that don't seem to have a place to plug into. I paid him $100 already. I'll see if there's a video of a starter on a small engine somewhere.

      @@WildmanTech I followed all your instructions, but I couldn't get it going. The float bowl was completely dry, so I don't know what was going on with it. Anyway, I ended up buying a whole new carburetor on Amazon for $12.99. Bolted it on and it started right up! Still love your video. It gave me the confidence I needed to do the replacement.

    Hi. Thanks for this nice informative video. I have another problem. I Have a push lawn mover with Honda GCV160 engine. The mower has proper amount of oil in it which is two seasons old and not dark so seams ok. I left the mower over winter with premium gas (half tank) in it. Darn, I should have properly winterized it and emptied the tank.
    Now I can't pull the string. Nothing is stuck with the blade. I can rotate the blade with hand but it's not rotating easily. But that's I think is normal. If I pull the string so hard, I may be able to pull just a little bit and then it gets stuck. It has a little bit of resistance. I removed the spark plug and then I could pull the rope with no problem. The spark plug seems normal with no sign of oil or any other dirt on it. I read somewhere to add a little bit of penetrating oil and I added a bit of WD40 into the spark plug hole. Let it sit overnight. I tried again in the morning and it's the same thing. I also readjusted the valve clearance but still exactly the same. The valves were too tight compared to the Honda manual. What could be the problem? Could it be because I left it over winter for 7 or 8 months? The problem seems to be that the engine can't release the pressure, or intake valve doesn't open maybe.

    I’m working on a Briggs engine that coincidentally on a pressure washer. I’ve got compression and spark plus it has a new air filter. It’s not starting unless I add flammable spray in the directly into the carburetor and then it runs very rough. It’s a Pulse Jet plastic carb.with a primer bulb. What do you suggest for my next step?

    • @WildmanTech
      @WildmanTech  3 года назад

      @@eastboundtrucking There's a valve that allows water pressure to escape when the wand handle is released. If that pressure release is not working, it would stop the motor. Eventually it will probably blow a seal somewhere.
