Being new to Kpop, you might not know that this is a real outlier in music videos. Bloody violence is frowned on and rarely (if ever), seen.Violence is usually very stylized and assuredly not so blatant. So that's a haegeum. Openly depicting police corruption and kkangpae (Korean gangs)in Kpop mvs-another nope. Haegeum number 2. Smoking-most Kpop idols are not allowed to smoke in public and certainly not in a music video. If idols are caught smoking it is considered a scandal and gets spread all over the internet. Haegeum number 3.
Yoongi (Suga/Agust D) has spoken on record as believing that putting idols on pedestals and expecting an almost impossible level of perfection then turning on the idol when learning they smoke, drink alcohol or, heaven forbid, date someone, and this actually ruining careers for some Kpop artists is ridiculous.
Please do the third part of this trilogy, AMYGDALA. It is powerful.

Yes, this! Amygdala is a very personal reflection on something that really happened to Yoongi early in his BTS career. Definitely very emotional, but it brings together all the duality of character from the first two in the trilogy.

    • @VanefromUruguay
      @VanefromUruguay 4 месяца назад +4

      👌perfectly explained.
It's important to understand that artists but specially idols in Korea are always under the microscope and take into account that someone's (anyone) 'public image' or 'image' is so important that career and life can change in a whim if it is not 'generally accepted'.
They as 3rd generation of K-pop ídols have always strived for freer ways into their society by questioning and reflecting over societal issues.

In this video, his alternate self you'll notice is actually a corrupt cop.
Again, his name is the only one on the credits for this song...he composed it, produced it, wrote the lyrics, and also was the creative mind behind the MV story board. He's so brilliant 😊

    1. All the rappers in BTS have written songs with deep social commentaries, both solo songs and BTS songs. The very first video posted on their BangtanTV , before they even officially debuted as BTS, was RM's song called "Vote or Just Shut Up". They also had another pre-debut song called "School of Tears" by RM, Suga, and Jin, about school violence. Their official debut song is "No More Dream", a criticism towards their peers about having your own dreams.
These guys have been writing about this stuff since they were teenagers, and are still doing it in their recent works.
    2. Agust D is the only person credited in this song for songwriting, producing, and performing. He's just a phenomenal musician. The live performances of his songs in his solo tour last year were incredible.
    3. If you notice, in both MVs, he's fighting against himself. In Daechwita, his past, angry, ambitious self is fighting against his present, less angry, more grounded self. In Haegeum, his liberated self is fighting against his side that's still shackled by societal rules and expectations.
If the scar represents his inner demons, you see that in this MV, the scar on the police officer is better healed than the scars in Daechwita. And the street gang leader here doesn't even have a scar. You will learn more about the scar in "Amygdala".
    4. Suga received acting offers after he released "Daechwita", but he said he wasn't good-looking enough to become an actor (cue cries of protests from ARMY). He's also received requests to create music scores for movies, and this he's interested in and would like to do when he has time.

I love that by showing these 2 characters he is kind of saying that he himself also has these sides that he is chritisizing here. That he has also this battle of corporate guy who wants power and money and then a rebel guy inside him. And at the end, if the rebel guy is given the chance and the power would he then still turn into the exact person who he is chritisizing? Thats how the world often works and I love that he is thinking about these things. Like Ive often thought like all those rappers who chritisized Bts for making it in the idol world, if they had the talent and the chance, they would probably all have taken the fame, the money and the glory gladly.

I almost forgot to recommend "the last" it doesn't have mv. You will have to look for a video of song lyrics. I think if you watch the last one first and find out about his life you could understand "Amygdala"

Suga is my guy, my favorite Rapper/Singer, Composer/Songwriter and Producer. His Agust D persona always intrigues me, but to me he is a lifeline reaching into the dark corners of my Soul to clean out the cobwebs, the mess. Amygdala is my favorite of the Trilogy, although Daechwita has been on repeat since the song dropped. He gives me the strength to get through the days of my overly challenging life and his are the only words tattooed on my body: Da Gwaenchanajil Geoya (Everything's going to be all right) from his song Snooze (his best IMO) on my left forearm. He is a quiet Genius with a true and faithful heart and the kindest human being. He deserves everything he has worked so hard for and the love and gratitude of the fans and his members. Please complete the Trilogy by reacting to Amygdala and his other masterpiece Snooze, with his collaboration with both Ryuichi Sakamoto and Woosung from The Rose, a band that also deserves your attention, by the way.

Hello there! I am back here with you. So glad you did Haegeum. Loved your interpretation of it. Quite spot on, actually. I am glad you spoke about the visuals, the lyrics, the music, the message, and Agust D himself - the creativity of Min Yoongi. He truly is a genius. He has accorded himself that (the name of his studio at HYBE where he works is called the Genius Lab or similar!) - but in a humble way. I have also been reading some of the comments here, and yea, i wholly agree - Amygdala needs to be next. Please do that. And perhaps after this, you could also try Wildflower by RM - the leader of BTS and a rapper himself, although not always because each of the members of the group are so very versatile in their respective and individual talents. Go on ..... continue exploring BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) - and i shall be with you on your journey. Looking forward to more 💜!

You will love the explanation videos out there for Blood Sweat & Tears, Spring Day & so many of the BTS raps.
But more than that you will adore the BU = Bangtan Universe. A series of clues starting in 2015 with music videos, album notes, mini videos, WEBTOON,… it’s too early to watch yet till you seen some of the related videos but I see you enjoy the intrigue & story arc so… one day.

This guy has deep lyrics and is an amazing producer - it's crazy. And he doesn't care about what he's "supposed to do" or not. For example, Idols usually get bashed for smoking and here he's actually smoking *in an MV*. Like you said: whether you agree with what he says or does, he has the courage to speak his mind without filter
I think you'd really like RM's work if you enjoy lyricism and j-hope's work if you love rythm. Both are wonderful artists as well. I'd recommend Wildflower for RM and More for j-hope
And then there would only be Jin and V left. Jin's The Astronaut is wonderful and I'd recommend Love me Again for V

The more you delve into BTS, the more you realize BTS is a whole lot more than k-pop, practically the only part that's left is the "k". Watching them grow up from their rebellious student stage as teens in hip hop mode, traveling through eras, and themes, and ideas to become superb individual artists has been a great pleasure for me. K-pop seems like a weak label, there's nothing "pop" about this trilogy. All through their journey they've stayed ahead of the k-pop industry, as an independent label they've consistently pushed the envelope. Seeing their success, k-pop groups are trying to emulate it, not there yet. Sooner or later people will recommend a couple of guides and that will help. BTS will be back together in 2025, and these seven musical geniuses and performers will amaze us.
My two favorite songs of all BTS are the third one in this trilogy, Amygdala, expressing total pain, and Mikrokosmos, total joy. Mikrokosmos is for listening live, sacred like church, analyze later.
    Stick with BTS!

I enjoyed your authentic reaction to Haegum and Daechwita. I saw him perform his trilogy live on day 2 in Los Angeles of his Suga/Agust D tour. It was mind blowing. His rapping is next level as he continually switches flows and cadences while driving the song forward. Suga's lyrics are deep and resonnate with those struggling with cepression as deeply as he did.
I suggest that you react to Snooze as it addresses giving oneself a break from your dreams and just rest to catch your breath. I think that this may speak to you.

I'm not sure how much you know about Min YoonGi aka Suga/AugstD....but as you liked his MV then the following info might be of interest to you.
Suga/Agust D began writing music lyrics and working with MIDI at age 11 and held a part-time job composing and arranging music at a recording studio at age 16.
Active under the name "Gloss" (wordplay on his name YoonGi, which means "to shine") as an underground rapper in his hometown Daegu, He originally entered Big Hit Entertainment as a producer at age 17 and became the second member to join BTS..... At BTS debut in 2013 he was 20 y.o.... he is one of BTSs main producers/songwriters/composers and has over 150 song copyrights.... he also produces for other artists and has won awards for his work.... he is one of the fastest rappers in South Korea.
Suga (SHU-GA.... from Shooting Guard - the position he played in basketball) ...... AgustD = SUGA + DT (Daegu Town - his hometown) Spelt Backwards
Between his commitments as a member of BTS, Suga/Agust D took advantage of time on the plane and in hotel rooms after concerts to continuously produce, write and compose music.
In an interview for Grazia Korea, Suga/Agust D expressed a desire to release the music he wanted to do without having to consider popular appeal or music ranking. He intended to release his music for free in the form of a mixtape to avoid such considerations, commenting that an album "has a feeling of being trapped in some sort of framework" due to the need for company involvement in promotion and advertising. He has released 2 mixtapes - and last year released his first official album (of which he continues to maintain full creative control)
Developing Agust D musically on the base of hip hop, much of Agust D's inspiration for the lyrics came from his own stories of dream, youth, and reality. In order to differentiate his work from that of his work as Suga, he developed the alter ego "Agust D". He is best known for his honest hardhitting lyrics.
This is the first song in a trilogy..... He is a master storyteller.... a fellow army best explained the trilogy as -
Daechwita... ridding himself of the need to prove his worth to others
Haegeum... ridding himself of the confines of modern society
Amygdala... he investigates the inner demons and trauma that started his confinement in the first place.
Suga/AgustD wrote, composed and produced the songs, he conceptualised the MVs and had creative control (working as usual with Director Lumpens (Choi YongSeok) who does most BTS MVs).
My favourite of this trilogy is Amygdala.... the MV shattered me, his depiction of being stuck in your mind left me in tears.... essentially this trilogy of videos represent his internal struggles.
Hope you have a great day💜💜Sending Greetings from Australia

Hmm interesting take about first lines, bc from what I heard and seen most people the first lines about: 'freedom of speach could be someones death', take more as people say they have freedom of speach but when you use it to hate and spread hate, and to the level that someone ends themself then it is really a freedom you can have, bc this is more selfindolgment then freedom...
Especially in kpop industry there were sadly many ends like that for idols...
You also have to remember that kpop is a music industry not a genre of music... Hmm

One thing about Yoongi is that he has a very measured, balanced approach to looking at life.
He is incredibly self-aware and is capable of criticizing something or someone without deeming them the enemy.
Things like RUclips, capitalism, ego, money -- they are all necessary and useful things, but they have a dark side that we cannot ignore.

You will learn later from their non-music content that he is very reserved & not expressive, yet all the music he produced and the lyrics he wrote - DEEP & STRONG! (The other two rappers RM & J-Hope have completely different styles/flows - all so talented).FYI- he was offered to be an actor, but he love music & rejected
This trilogy, genius how he put planned it! I love all three but the third one got me teary... I won't spoil it, you will see. please check it out :)

As a metal head, you may appreciate the amazing music from Dreamcatcher. Their core sound is rock heavy. Scream, Boca, Odd Eye, Vision. All great.

Best reaction to Haegum that I have watched. Thank you for looking up that Haegum has two meanings and understanding the meaning of the song. I see so many vibe to beat ignoring the lyrics. I discovered Agust D after falling in love with JK’s Golden Album. He is an amazing rapper. Great interpretation. Just know that everything in Amygdala is true. Looking forward to your reaction.

At the end i thought he had knowingly inherited the corrupt policeman's empire. He has his jacket, and the police give him a lift to the noodle shop/lab/crime factory he now owns. Yes to Amgydala, but it is not an easy watch.

Love your reactions so much. Agust-D is the best. If you get a chance to see his concert, definitely check it out. Absolutely fire. Love all three songs in this trilogy but I have to say amygdala is my favorite for personal reasons. It is extremely difficult than the other two.

Yoongi is definitely my favorite member of BTS. I love his deep lyrics which are often also very personal. That's why Amygdala is my favorite part of the trilogy. Can't wait to see you react to it.

For more insight on suga I really suggest reacting to his song from 2016 called “the last” and a song from his most recent album called “amygdala.” Both these songs are super vulnerable and he talks about his struggles with his mental health.

You were definitely on point with the meaning, just that there were further underlying meanings as well that were connected to the previous MV 'Daechwita' that as a newbie you probably can't pick up on yet. These connections mostly have to do with Suga aka Yoongi himself, therefore I definitely suggest you watch the third in the trilogy 'Amygdala'. As it is a prequel to 'Daechwita' and 'Haegeul', and also talks about Yoongi's personal struggles. That's all I will say about it cause I don't want to spoil it. Can't wait for your reaction!

Yoongi got a lot of criticism because of these lyrics, ppl were saying bs like "He criticizes capitalism as if he were not one of the richest people in the world." or "look who's talking about being a yt slave" (bc BTS has the record of most watched MV in 24hr), but the thing with him is that even before he became this famous, he already was an anarchist to the core, thats why in his videos shows these two sides of him fighting.
You can be rich and still have social consciousness or class consciousness, you can criticize capitalism and still be part of it because thats how the world/society works and its difficult if not imposible to scape from it.
Yoongi is so honest and authentic with his lyrics bc he writes them himself (unlike other rappers/singers in this industry), he lives for his music, he's my favorite artist ever. I love him ❤

Listening to your intro, as Gen X growing up with Rock&Roll, I’m not a “K-pop” fan. I do Love BTS though. There seems to be a big difference between BTS and K-pop in general. You’ll understand as you go down the rabbit hole of BTS. 💜

All the song in the trilogy are very important and the last one is very very important to understand the whole so yes please watch it. It's a very personal song to Yoongi just bare that in mind when watching and listening to it.

If its not been said, the main connection to the first video is the scar on their right eyes, they both had one....as both characters in Daechwita did.

Since you pay so much attention to the lyrics, you will notice that Suga and RM both tend to use a lot of word play, where words in Korean rhyme with words in English. I can't wait to watch your reaction to Amygdala next. Glad I found your videos, I am really enjoying them.

daechwita and haegeum both are part of a trilogy. The trilogy consists of 3 mvs, daechwita (2020), haegeum (2023) and amygdala (2023). You need to react amygdala now. Also just a heads up amygdala is a very personal song, everything he talks about in this song are things that have happened to him in reality, the mv is a representation of his real life as well.
fun fact- haegeum was released exactly one year ago today

SUGA is so so talented. He’s a genius. He really understands what makes a track a hit. His studio is called Genius Lab and I believe that’s so appropriate.
I love your reactions. As a fellow metalhead who never delved into Kpop, I can relate so hard to your BTS journey. They’re such fucking geniuses. All of them. It’s incredible. RM actually is a genius with an IQ of 148.
Please react to the Taylor Mari Guide to BTS Members: the Bangtan 7. It dedicates a section to each member so you can get to know them a little more. I think you’ll love it. It’s long (49 minutes) but we’ll watch!! 🥰💜
