For your Requiem image... hand held at 1/6s shutter speed? How?!? The image with the Kea in the foreground is truly a once in a lifetime shot. Another wonderful video. I just smash the like button before I start watching any of your videos because I know that's what I'll end up doing anyway! Cheers!
Thank you for sharing your favourite images from last year. Great video with stunning images. Looking forward to you getting out in the field in the beautiful Fiordland N.P
Thanks a lot mate. I got half way through this video and thought, what am I even rambling on about, this is boring. Wondered if it was even worth sharing it, haha. Thanks for the support!
Nice video Will, The standout in this which made me happy was to see your genuine passion & emotion for these pictures. That’s what it’s all about mate. Love the cheeky Keas. Take care mate.
Love this recap man! I've been an avid follower of your work for many years have am really enjoying your RUclips content...looking forward to seeing what's to come in 2022!
What an awesome video. Makes me want to jump in my car right now, get out of the city, and take some photos! Thanks for sharing your experience, and the stunning images that were created.
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography not really, actually. I'd like to see how you edit a wide variety of photos. For instance, going into more detail on the editing of the shots here in this video. Everything from astro to seascapes. Always love your work
Love these images William and the story behind each one. Although I now live in Qld Australia, I grew up in West Otago. These images remind me so much of my days of hiking in Fiordland and the Southern Alps, but I have yet to see the Aurora Australis. Love your tutorials and videos.
Awesome Will, love that you use the Kea in your landscape, really tells the story where they hang out aye. Great shot of the Aurora, I got my first on in Tassie, was so excited. Great video, cheers
Thanks Will for sharing 2021 with us...great pics...really like the aurora pics....one of these times I'll get mine here in Canada. Like the variety of the channel and really enjoy your journeys out into the field...take care...all the best!
love it mate! is there a video of you processing your aurora photo? id love to see how you blend them together! ive never thought about doing 2 separate exposures, bloody good idea!!
Cheers mate. I have that in my 'night sky' processing course, on a northern lights 'focus stack, bulb blend image' but nothing on here sorry. Definitely the best way to retain depth and detail if you can't be there in the blue hour. Cheers!
Cheers Will, great videos! I appreciated being able to watch you process and work a scene. Helpful seeing your thought process for composing etc real time. As with your waterfall video!
I like the way you show your tutorials they are very informative I like the way you present them and they are easy to understand. with the photos you just showed in this video I really liked them what mode did you use for those pictures,I have been into photography for a few years now and I love it I mainly take landscapes at the moment though I am open to all genre of photography. I will look froward to watching more of your tutorials.
I really enjoyed this video Will. It's great to hear the story and get an insight to your thought process behind the images. All this detailed information makes a significant difference to us, me. It's funny because I was thinking, as I like bird photography, that it would be good if you covered birds in the landscape at some point, then a video pops up with that in the content. As you said, you did really well to get that Winter Flight capture with the wings up. Excellent. A word on the lovely Keas, they ate the seat of our motorbike in the middle of the night at Fox Glacier in 1992! I also think having guest photographers and discussions would be a really interesting addition to your channel.
Such special moments! Love this vid! I don’t know if it’s practical but I’d love to see a complete start to finish, out in the field then post processing the scene that you find 🙂
Hi William. Do you have any videos for how to make your images without filters? I may be wrong, but I notice you don’t use graduated filters much? I struggle with this, and usually bring my filters along to make the image blend better. Do you make an HDR later? Or in camera? Just curious how you get it right when the sky is bright compared to the dark rocks. Thank you, from the states.
Gday Gary. Thanks for supporting the channel. Depending on your camera, you should be able to expose to the right before the highlights clip, then raise the shadows in post processing. If you put my name and HDR in the search, you’ll see where I do this method. No need for filters that’s for sure. All the best and let me know if you have any other questions :)
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography thanks!! I am always learning and I follow Thomas H a lot too, and admire his “purist” form with minimal post processing, hence the filters. I admit, I hate post processing so I may stick to the filters, since I own the Lee system, BUT I can take so much of your help too with all the compositional issues I deal with and maybe one day dive into more of the post processing since I don’t always have my filters. It’s so cool how everyone has their styles and it’s neat to learn how to “see” what they eye can’t see. I think that’s my biggest hurdle, taking a eye view of 50mm say, and learning what a great wide view can look like. I like how you go without your tripod and scan with your phone first sometimes. It’s so smart. Thanks again for everything as I develop my style!
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography Thanks so much for the reply, I typed this after your first photo and on the next few I saw you'd focus stacked 🤣 I probably should have waited. Thanks again for the reply buddy
@@Holdenmagroin75 No worries mate :) the focus mode itself has little to do with how much will be sharp, that is more in relation to using the right aperture, which will usually be narrow, like f/11, f/16 etc or in some cases, doing a focus stack if the foreground matter is very close to the lens. With the focus mode, I always leave in the centre so I can just point at what I want to focus on but generally I am focussing in the mid-ground. Hope that makes sense!
Kea are charismatic and have that beautiful sunset under their wings that you only see when they fly above you. NZ kids always think of the kea as the mischievous mountain parrot that shreds your shoes and gets you in trouble with your parents.
Cool!! Thanks for the tip. It would be really nice if you do another video similar to this in the future, and you also share where you focus in the scene 😃 Getting sharp focus is one of the trickiest part of landscape photography in my opinion
All these photos are killer shots. Oh man, they inspired me a lot.
Thanks so much!
Super informative with the technical settings and aesthetic backstory. More of these please! Thanks for sharing these special moments.
Thanks Paul. I almost scrapped this one because I figured it was a snoozer. Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks for the video of your personal faves from 2021 Will. All are great but really loving those Kea shots mate!
Cheers Phil! Definitely not done with them yet that's for sure :)
Great video, love the Winter flight image !
Thank you Em!
Really enjoyed the stories behind each image. The technical tips are gold re balancing speed, ISO and aperture - a great learning experience!
Much appreciated Chris! 🙌🏻

Amazing animals!
Where were you focusing on the mountain with rocks and river photo? F/16, 1/6 sec, ISO 100
In the mid ground, which is where I would typically focus on a wide scene.
