  • Quick guide for editing Fuji 4K HLG files in Davinci Resolve.
When I first picked up the X-T3 and started editing these 4k HLG files I was running into 2 major issues in Davinci Resolve:
    1) 4K files were making my i7 PC absolutely choke, editing was unbearable
    2) Colors from HLG just weren't as vibrant/natural as other Fuji profiles. With enough tweaking I could get it looking decent but something felt off.
Here we look at how to overcome the stuttering issues with 4k editing in Resolve. Some people are even using 8 year old laptops and they still work!
Colors are remedied by using the LUTS available to us from Fuji, here's a link to download them and also have a read of Fuji's spec sheets.

This grade I go through here should get you to a reasonable point, my goal was to show you my run and gun grade for youtube footage (aka a primary grade).
If you'd like to see how to deal with certain harsh conditions, motion tracking or other resolve questions just let me know and I might do some further "tuts".
    EDIT
I forgot to mention in the video that you can clear your optimised media folder at any time.
Goto Project Settings -- Master Settings -- Working Folders (just under where you chose the optimised media formats)
There you'll see "Cache Files Location".
I periodically just goto that folder and delete everything. Of course if you delete optimised media off of a timeline you're working on, you'll need to run the process again in Resolve.
So if you clear this directory in between projects when you're completely done, that would be optimal.
I should also mention that the optimised media DOES NOT affect your final render, it's just optimised media for the timeline.

Plans for creating this channel had been kicking around for a while and it was at the end of 2018 / 2019 that I finally got the ball rolling.
I'd like to tip my beanie to all of these channels for providing me with endless hours of youtubing while also being a (hugh-mungus) source of inspiration!
