    I had dismissed HLG in favour of D-Log-M, for no good reason in retrospect. Thanks to this video I have reevaluated this decision. I've now set up a dedicated group definition in Resolve for HLG. If you also have group definitions for D-LogM (and mobile phones and any other cameras you use) it makes it easier to mix sources on the same timeline. HLG looks great ! Thanks again.

    very interesting. I just bought a DJI osmo action 4, so dlog-m is the only option. As many in the forums have noted "well guess i'm screwed" I found just recording in standard color mode looks better.

    Super informative and so far the best explanation I've found of why one could choose to shoot in either HLG or D-Log M. Thanks Jason!

    Nice video mate, frustrating isn't it, they just give you a broken "log" which is actually a worse HLG!

    My second point is to uses Colour Managed and DaVinci Wide Gamute then click on the DLog M clip on the and select Colour Space HLG 3 1000 NIT’s. It was either that or Rec.2020. It will then be far better. I discovered this when using Action 4 DLog-M.

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  6 месяцев назад

      Yeah I've seen people use a few different hacks using different input spaces/CSTs to get D-Log m into a DWG workflow, I've also seen some evidence that d-Log M is just flat rec.709 and not log at all and also some people have tested it and say it's basically the same as D-Cinelike! I wish DJI would actually release details and work with black magic to avoid all this.

  • @Coatsey007
    @Coatsey007 6 месяцев назад +1

    In case you did not know, RUclips can show HDR, it knows what the viewer’s device is capable of and will show HDR or Rec.709 automatically. With iPhones, iPads, Mac computers all being capable of editing and displaying HDR then it’s a real miss to downgrade HLG to Rec.709. HDR does not mean over colourised.

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks yeah I knew about YT HDR, that's the good thing about using DWG/Intermediate that you can deliver for different output spaces easier. As don't have a calibrated HDR reference monitor so that's why I don't grade HDR.

      @@JasonRobertsVideo that’s a shame on the monitor front, you are aware, I’m sure however, that if you’ve got an iPad, iPad Pro, that you can set everything up to work with that and colour grade and export in HDR? I currently use an XDR pro and have it all set up to the Apple colour space. I’m travelling at the minute so I’m a bit lazy with my response but happy to expand if this is used to you.

    Thanks for this. It's been frustrating trying to work with D-Log M without proper format support from DJI. Are there benefits to using DaVinci YRGB Color Managed? If so how different is the set up for that?

      Hi, these 2 vids show the 2 aspproaches ruclips.net/video/JxaLCRjQ8YM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/iaYi6zNNCKc/видео.html for general use. For D-LogM specifically there is no special benefit to either approach depending on how you want to grade it. ruclips.net/video/M6z0GR_t1xE/видео.html

    Excellent! I´ve been looking all around for this solution. If you would also want to use a LUT I presume you place at the end of the node tree?

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  6 месяцев назад

      Glad it was helpful, yeah if the LUT expects rec.709 put it after the last node. You can get some LUTs deigned to work with DWG so they would not go after a rec.709 CST node.

    • @shortcutz-gdl

      Thanks Jason - it looks like a diploma in grading might be a good idea. Otherwise one could be doing more halm than good. Nice to know I have to check through scores of LUTs now and hope I'm doing the right thing ! :) @@JasonRobertsVideo

      Don't give yourself a hard time, there are technically better ways of doing things that will preserve more detail/data but if your viewers/client is happy and you are exporting/rendering in the correct color space etc. then that's still a win :) :) Doesn't mean you can't improve and keep learning just don't beat yourself up - you will get there! :)

    Hi my friend - great job on your videos 👍🏼
    Been watching a few of them as a new pocket 3 owner
    Curious what camera you’re using in your studio ?
    Would love to use the pocket 3 in a studio but obviously it needs plenty of light. I do have a Sony Zv-e10 which is better but maybe it’s fun to grab the pocket and move in studio at times as I’ve seen you do
    Anyway, cheers 🎉

    Can all those adjustments be saved as a single setting.

    • @JasonRobertsVideo
      @JasonRobertsVideo  6 месяцев назад +2

      You can save nodes for use in other clips by "grabbing a still" and you can also save them as power grades so you can use them across multiple projects

    this is another tutorial for day time few seconds video. Why so many tutorials making color grading just few seconds video. I have same camera video is recorded in HLG bu i am recording long term video over 1hr. I wanted to add luts and HDR but ended up with complete pitch black . I am using Davinci 18 studio.
