I know this is old but I just want you to know this is not Australian TV. This is a British show: 'The Last Leg' (as you rightly say). Adam (one of the three regulars and the host of the show) is Australian but this is a show that started with the 2012 (London) Paralympics, it's pretty much a British institution, very few people in Australia have even heard of it (although they do air it- about three seasons late- in Aus on the government funded channel). I'm English/Australian (not by heritage, by the fact that I've moved between them my whole life) so that's how I know these things, I haven't done any research but yeah, love this show but it's not Australian. It honestly doesn't surprise me that american media seemingly has such a hard time with Russell. If 20 odd years of watching it has taught me anything, it's that american panel shows essentially break down the second a guest challenges their position or worldview, which is sort of Russell's whole schtick. But it also seems like he doesn't really have to say much of anything to fucking bamboozle these people, which I chalk up to a combination of being intimidated by his intelligence/vocabulary and toxic masculinity interfering with how he's visually perceived. Americans have a hard time with attractive people also being loudly intellectual, and Russell has a sort of soft femininity to him that throws a lot of those kinds of people off in a major way
