Wow. That's actually a "my controller broke" that was completely believable. The snap of heavy plastic was quite audible. RIP Cap's Win-Wing. It was a real workhorse.
I flew OV-10's for seven years. As you concluded, the OV-10 has turn radius, but nothing else, as an advantage in the fight. The 4 M-60 7.62 mm MG's are mere pop guns and would not match up well against any WW II fighter's armament. Any WW II fighter pilot worth his salt would extend and return with energy and never attempt to turn with an OV-10. Your warbird pilots didn't appear to use that advantage as much as they should. I suppose they were just having fun mixing it up. I also flew the T-28 B Trojan. In the late 70's the engine was rated at 1425 HP. With a lower weight resulting in good wing loading it would handle the Bronco also. (Albeit no internal guns since it was a trainer) One admin note: You have the Broncos in USMC VMO-2 colors but are using what appears to be a USAF cockpit. Thanks, enjoyed the show. It brought back good memories.
A good bit of immersion, that flight stick snap was… my condolences to CAP, though it makes one wonder if that’s ever happened to some poor sap in historical combat
The Super tucano will probably change A LOT with the upcoming versions, it should be better then a p51 but not more then that. It currently is underperforming by a lot.
A turbine can keep running in MCT all day long until your tank runs dry. (Max Continuous Thrust) But you can also keep it at CL levels for quite a while as well unlike a piston pounder (CLimb thrust) Only time you start to get into thrust problems is when you pass 100% N1, that is the overboost territory and can burn up a turbine in short order. On a Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engine, this is achieved by putting the FADEC (Engine ECUs) in alternate mode and the engines will overspeed and give more thrust.
The OV-10 IS NOT a dog fighter. Much of that model is wrong! With the Garret -5s had 830hp per side, boost for 1 min to 1,100hp per side, requiring overhaul after doing so, you can use this in the vertical. If you got the Garret-11s it goes to 1,400. Mine had -11s. Real max speed is 310-imph with -11s 91%N1, boost is 105%N1just helps you climb if you lose an engine. You must keep your speed up fly it like you are Hoov in a Commander, do not try and out turn anything you will just lose all your speed and be stuck slow, you will have to let off to accelerate and then they got you. What you can do is jink and wait for a mistake. If you get slow you can't jink anymore. Stay low and use terrain and obstacles. The OV-10 has a very good roll rate those spoilers make it like a snap roll but with more control. It would take a very good pilot to stay on its tail if it was jinking. Stay low If they go high, you can pull vertical but immediately dive for speed like Hoov [good job Matrix] kind of a reverse boom and zoom. Try and drag them low and force an overshoot. Warbirds that are smart will just use superior speed and boom and zoom till you are dead, that would negate all of the OV-10s advantages. Our big worry was SAMs so we stayed at treetops. Fighters could not even find us. We only made one pass on our target. We never lost a single pilot.
Hey glad of you to feature the bronco! One of my favorite planes as there's a handful of them still operated by Philippine air force in active service here in Philippines
For those who have tried, being on a platform that is moving in three dimensions, and shooting at another thing that is moving in three dimensions, while all the time trying to not kill yourself just being on the platform, is hard. Modern aircraft use all kind of technology to stabilise your platform which makes hitting the other a lot easier. And let's not forget the the rounds you fire are also subject the those same three forces.
Cap: love the stuff, but just for the sake of the facts NO Spitfire IX (or anything VIII onwards) has a B wing. They are all C wing or E. If you see some historical reference in squadron records to a Spitfire IXB that is not the wing that is getting referred to, it is the way they referred to different engine altitude optimisations before the LF and HF prefixes came into use
I really enjoyed the simulation you guys put on. I would have thought the warbirds would have won every dog fight. Have you considered reenacting the Schweinfurt-Regensburg Raid on 14 October 1943 using original warbirds without the weather delay and a version with the original weather delay using B-52Hs or C-130s? Great work. I am looking forward to seeing more from you.
Day 4 asking for you to do a dogfight between the A20-G and the german equivalent, and or the Beau-fighter and the german equivalent, I.E. DO17, the JU series of twin engine aircraft or the ME series. Whichever ones are more convenient… really sort of just want to see a dogfight between two twin engine aircraft that have dorsal gunners because of several reasons. It forces teamwork and cooperation between the dorsal gunner and the pilot, and it also reduces the amount of angles of attack that your plane can be attacked from which adds a bit more challenge and dynamic to a dogfight. Also twin engine aircraft seem to not have the best flight characteristics, thus once the dogfights get to low altitude, the ground very much becomes a major factor in the equation. Day 5 of asking for you to do a scenario where you try and figure out just what it would have taken for Wake Island to have held out long enough for the pacific fleet to get there, or if Wake Island was just a sacrificial pawn.
I was just thinking about how good a warbird could be when coupled with modern missiles, engines, and decent radar. Then you guys do this. Not the same, but close enough. Great job GR!
Now someone needs to model the PA48 enforcer so they can test it. P-51 airframe with a 2,440hp turboprop. That might actually do well against warbirds. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piper_PA-48_Enforcer
I wonder if anyone has done a USMC OV-10D Bronco NOGS (Night Observation Gunship) version? Too bad about the damage model on the Tucano, I was hoping for an A-29 vs. P-51 battle.
I was just watching a video on a plane and heard it had a COIN history. As it was a WW2 plane and you just did COIN planes, I thought I'd mention it to the Grim Reapers. It was the Douglas A-26 Invader. In the video they said first deployed in SW Asia theater of war, and the air unit that tested it said they didnt want it. That group of pilots, 'Grim Reapers.' One model had 14 forward mounted 50cals.
Seeing the OV-10A makes me want to see the P-61D Black Widow on here someday. I don't even think I have seen a P-61 in any WW2 simulations yet. The COIN aircraft just feel like being in a flying target, tbh.
Idk man. Those AGM-114L’s are pretty sweet and well worth the update I think. As someone who has been recently getting into the Apache, getting a huge increase in capability like that is a nice surprise to wake up to.
@@grimreapers I kno ;) I've seen other similar scenarios as well however I'm just saying it'd be EPIC to see and you haven't done all of said mentioned aircraft in one Vid in this Request-- Super Tucano, OV-10 Bronco, Pucara, MB-339 Aermacchi, SU-25 Frogfoot, and A-10 Thunderbolt II VS Warbirds! Perhaps once the damage model's are fixed😅🙏
Thanks! Continue to enjoy you and the guys & gals, I hope this is the place to offer a mission suggestion? I enjoyed the COIN aircraft vs WWII warbirds. May I suggest a scenario of the result of losses through attritition air warfare that has lost frontline fighters of all sides to combat AND unsustainble infrastructure, maintenance, parts, highly trained pilot losses that force all belligerents to enlist trainers in converted older generation trainer airframes with the available newer purposeful trainers against the adversaries? All rotor aircraft would be employed more for SOAR ops, not direct combat ops, just a thought...
