Cute
Tips and tricks of the trade are often what makes all the difference in a garment looking more professional. Same with cooking. Tips used to be handed down from mother to daughter, but today's lifestyle doesn't always allow for that anymore, so videos like this one are truly appreciated. Love your channel!
7:50 on the video - does sharing this help you? Personally, 100% yes! I love watching the close ups of your drafting, hand-sewing, pressing & slow stitching etc - it's like being there with you as you teach a class. I'm an experienced sewer but always watch your video's as I always learn something but most of all really enjoy watching your 'thoughtful creativity'! Thanks so much for sharing 😀
This turned out amazing! And, yes, these types of videos are super helpful!
Brilliant. Looks really stylish. Well done for using all those pieces to save them being wasted and showing us how easy and effective it can be.
Also thanks for the tip to finish the seam between the striped dark fabric and the white - it was a new technique for me and I’m going to put that into practice some day soon. Bless you ❤
Thank you! I am so glad it was useful! I must say - I don't often use mock French Seam, but it does come in handy at times. I am so glad it gave you something new to try :)
I’ve never heard of a mock French seam before. It makes sense! (I turn 60 this week and have been addicted to sewing all my life!)
We live and we learn, right? :) Every day I learn somehting new, too. I am glad this was something new and interesting for you :)
Alisa you cease to amaze me! 😳that shirt came out awesome 👏
I love the collar 😊👈🏼and the white cuffs on a short sleeve shirt.
Super cute make. 👍👍
You are so kind and than YOU for watching :)
Hello Alisa 😊. This shirt has such a high couture look. It truly is a beautiful well made perfect fitting garment. I think the seam finishes are what make all the difference and that beautiful topstitching you did. That has to feel so satisfying to make some thing you’re going to get a ton of wear out of from a pile of scraps. Have a great weekend.
Thank you so so much, Christine! I love when seams are neat, and maybe no one else will see it, but I know :) you know that feeling! Yes, I already wore this shirt - I am still here and there about the sleeve length, but I will figure that out :)
I totally agree 👍
In Tennessee we can wear linen year around. We have all four seasons in one day in the “winter” months so layering is a must. Anyone who lives in the southern states understands.
Cute shirt and thanks. I learned some new tricks, and I have been sewing since I was 5 years old. I am now almost 75.
Long time watcher, first time commenter. This is just what I needed to see! I have lots of linen scraps from shirts and pants I've had made for me and my husband. I made my mom a linen throw quilt this spring, but that didn't use up all my scraps, and now I have new remnants. I've ordered a larger cutting mat, and I'm ready to try making my own clothes! (First I'll iron my linen 😉) Thank you.
Jeannette, hello there and thank you for your comment and I really hope you give garment making a go, you can totally do it with all those beautiful linen scraps :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity I made a shirt! Not a linen shirt, don't know what the content is as I bought a remnant to use for gift bags. There was more than a meter so with your videos as a guide I used an existing shirt and copied it. This weekend I'm adding pockets to my dresses. My large cutting mat has been shipped so in the fall (when travel is done) I can continue my clothing journey. Thank you.
Looks great and the using different fabrics is what made it so good. Love to see how people deal with different parts of sewing as often gives me ideas that I can get my own from. Thank you x
Great use of fabric scraps, Alisa! The blouse suits you well! Regards from Germany Stephanie
Stephanie, hello hello there! Thank you so much, I am so happy too + I used up my linen scraps, but of course, I still have plenty left-over :) Thank you for your greetings!
Lovely. Fabric Scraps are daunting and I get tired of scrap quilts.
I am in the process of making one and.... It takes a while. Do you like just to quilt as you go or do you like to do color ways?
I love your fabric scrap projects! The blouse came out lovely 💐
Super love. Who would’ve thought this was made out of fabric scraps? Very stylish and nice design. Thank you for your ideas, you’ve been my inspiration in sewing. 🎉❤😃
I’ve never thought about treating my seams the way you did so that you can’t see the stripes through it. So simple and so smart!
I love your scrappy makes, they give me great ideas to use up as much fabric as possible. Your shirt is really lovely and the sleeve length is quite dressy and a shorter length would make them more sporty casual, depending on the look you are wanting. Hi from Queensland, Australia.
Ah, thank you, Trudy! I often end up loving my scrappy makes even more, just because being scrappy makes them more special, I guess :) thank you for watching and tuning in
Very helpful video! 1) when you walked out in the muslin without your usual cheerful facial expressions, I almost thought it was someone else. 😆 2) as a newbie sewist, I feel like these tips/techniques would be something one learned from their mentor. Please keep them coming!
He he :) have you seen my face when I sew? I almost always look like I am super angry, lol :) I am not, it is my "I am sewing" face, lol :) :D I am glad you found it useful (p.s - I have detailed tutorials on different seams and hem and necklines on the channel, where I go step by step on how to make them, you might find it useful)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Pretty sure that’s how I found you, searching for a sewing technique. Been thankful ever since! I guess I’m more focused on what/how you’re sewing to notice your sewing face. Haha.
@@ConkreteMan ha ha lol, that's good :) I am wishing you happy and creative sewing (and lots of it)
What a masterpiece - so beautifully done ❣
Oh thanks Alisa. If you can remember, this year's my goal is to maximize the use of fabric scraps. So the videos are perfect for me. Thank you for sharing little tips.
Yes, I do! I am so happy it aligns with you as well :)
What beautiful work. I've learned to sew almost 50 yrs ago and it makes me happy to know I can still learn more.
Thank you ❤
Beautiful end product, I love that design. ❤️
This is such a cute and so stylish. It looks like a shirt that you would find when your out shopping. Well done!
Annie, thank you so much! I posted a Members extra with extra details, fabric suggestions and drafting parts for this project :)
Right as I was thinking, for about the 50th time, "I wonder where she got that dress form?" - You answered my question! 😄
You give me hope that someday my sewing skills might be used for something other than mending and easy quilting. 😂 Thanks for the beautiful work, as always.
I keep company with quilters so it is true scraps become wearable art!!
More of this kind of tutorial pls. Love from the philippines

That yoke! My mom was an excellent seamstress. She called it "piecing the piecing piece"
I love to see what you come up with. The shirt is so fun. You have so much talent. Thank you for sharing❤
Oh I really do love the tips you give, it's often things I have never thought of so it's very helpful!! You have a brilliant mind for these ideas!
Yay! Makes me happy to know that it is helpful! Sometimes I wonder if information like this is even interesting to people, so it is great to know that it is :)
You are an amazing young woman. I love watching your videos, they inspire me in my sewing and bring such joy. I love your genuineness in your comments and your ‘nervous’ laughter.
Bless you
The shirt truly looks super cool ! ❤
Really impressive! Looks fabulous!
I also appreciated the tips on how to finish the seams.
I’m finding your scrap-busting videos really inspirational as we all have a constantly growing heap of fabric scraps, and I like the idea they can actually be made into clothes.
Thanks! ☺️
I like the length of the sleeve. Great job 👍
Thank you, Ratchel! I am still kind of here and there on it, perhaps I am just not used to that length :)
Your blouse turned out beautiful. In the video, I could not tell that the yoke was pieced together. Patchwork shirts, blouses, pants, bags, and jackets are very expensive; and, they never seem to go out of style. Try crazy patchwork piecing using your smaller scraps (in all different shapes, prints, colors, and patterns) to make your own yardage for one of a kind projects. I do it because it is fun, uses up a lot of scraps, and is relaxing to me.
I’ve been watching you for years. I love seeing how much you’ve come out of your shell and how confident with your channel you have become.
I love watching you and I love your channel. 😊
I have watched your video several times. I learn more each time.
Kudos to your husband for filming outdoors...lovely location...beautiful shirt.
Thank you very much and thank you for your kind comments!
Love your fabric scrap videos 😊
I love your videos showing how to make clothes from scraps. Please keep them coming.
Really cute top! Looks fabulous on you!!
This shirt looks great and you truely impressed my 9 year old grand daughter
Debbie, thank you and this made my day! Hope your granddaughter enjoys creative things as well and wishing a great day to both of you
I love your channel. I especially love when you make clothes from scraps.. Most people make quilts and I am not a quilter, I have gotten some really good ideas for my own fabric scraps. Thanks ,
Anna
The shirt is very nice, I think the sleeves look perfect.
I like the finished shirt, but liked seeing your process even more. Amazing that you were able to piece that many scraps together to make the back yoke.
I love this shirt! What a great way to use up leftover fabric! And yes, I find tips like the one you gave us about the seams to be really helpful. Thanks for another great video!
Michelle, thank you so much for being here and for coming along with me on this scrap fabric adventure :)
Oh wow!!!! The shirt is gorgeous!!!!! I love it and you look gorgeous in it.
Great, the Shirt is great. Thank you for sharing. 😊😊😊😊
Your shirt is beautiful. I love it. Thank you for sharing. You do a beautiful job of putting different colors together. God bless.
Lovely! I adore your videos! Thank you!
Aww, thank you! :)

I love the mock French seams… very clever 🎉
You are incredible, love that shirt and the fact that you made it from left overs.well done👋🥰👋
You are a genius my friend specially when you took time to match all your stripes and make everything invisible. You did a great job and love the length of the sleeves
WOW❤❤❤you are amazing, your creative design with your sewing skills is just incredible. Love your top❤❤❤just perfect 😍 has the look from a high end clothing store ❤❤❤wonderful tutorial 🥰thanks so much to the camera guy too😉
You Are Exactly Who I want to become!! That was soooo amazing! Yes, please share your thought process because I love to know why something is done not just how. There are a thousand different ways to construct a garment. I really want that shirt! I love how you are so calm and you enjoy the process, not just the end result.
You are an amazing lady Alisa, I love the shirt and all the helpful tips you give!
that is beautiful. I wished I was as talented as you with an amazing imagination.
You totally are! I think it comes to you, once you start dipping your toes into it and get more and more familiar with your own sense of creativity and style - it will come to you!
Thank you sweetie. I've been re-watching all of your videos.
Yes! Thank you for doing and explaining the mock French seam. Love the finished top
Absolutely beautiful!
Absolutely amazing job with everything your hands touch 🥳🤩🥰
You are so creative 🙂
thank you!
Love your videos. Linen is beautiful fresh and clean. Thank you!
So great! I love the tips. Beautiful shirt❤
You continually amaze me at your creativity and skill. I love how you did the faux French seam and will definitely use that technique in the future.
I love the way the stripes show through the neck where unbuttoned against the white collar. So interesting! I get a little lost sometimes when you are describing your techniques, but then, I remember when I first watched your early drafting videos, and I was completely lost. But intrigued. I watched some over and over and then started to try it out. Slowly, it started to make sense. So, I figure as I keep learning, the new concepts will make sense, too. I love seeing the potential for new levels of learning. You truly are an amazing teacher.
this is a beautiful shirt and it is a testamont to your brilliant sewing thanks for sharing all your tips etc you are truly brilliant thanks debbie not david xxxxxx
Hello there Debbie and thank you! I really like it as well, and so comfy and roomy for our stuffy summers :)
Making things from scraps is my favourite! I like to make something for myself and then get something for my daughter out of the leftover bits. Recently I made my daughter a few things and I was able to squeeze out pieces for my friend's little toddler. It scratches that creative puzzle itch plus being very $ and eco friendly.
Thanks for all your videos!
I like it alot but my nerves would never last hoping that the material is going to be enough. Great job❤
Yes, the information you share in this viedo is very much appreciated! Love the pattern of this shirt! ❤
Gorgeous shirt. I really loved the muslinas well, would love to see a pattern . Love your videos.
Hello there :) I have a ton of dolman sleeve shirt pattern detailed drafting videos on my channel, you can explore all them on my channel :) have fun and happy sewing! :)
Many steps, came out great sis
VERY MANY :) He he, but I think it was worth it. When it was done - I had so much clean up to do from all the threads from linen :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity worth it indeed, oh Linen, I love it
I love it!
I’m going to make a half and half shirt. Each side a different color.
yes, that will be so fun!
Very nice! Your tips on seams and topstitching is helpful!
You're a genius! And, I've been looking for a pattern I can use for a linen shirt that isn't a big, boxy pattern. This is more like what I'm looking for!
I love hearing about how you use the fabric to your advantage, how you tackle the difficulties of dealing with the transparency of the linen and the stripes, it is really helfpul for when i face similar problems in my projects.
I absolutely love how confident you make me feel. I’ve sewn a blouse(so easy but made me so proud)and can’t wait to try more. This top is a winner! You incorporated those stripes sooo nicely!!
It turned out so great. I cut apart many of my jeans I can't wear any more due to fabric thinning in places. I sewed and serged into blocks. Made pieces big enough to cut out pieces to create a pull over . The front pocket I added a vintage floral transfer, used up second hand bought embroidery threads and completed a wow recycled denim pull over. I have had people make nice comments on it when I wear it too. Keep inspiring.
Truly finish makes the difference.
So cute!!! I ❤ it!
I love ur thought processes. U r brilliant & creative!
Debbie, thank you for you kind words!
Absolutely smashed it! 🥳well done, on another beautiful shirt. I find these tutorials so creative and inspiring! Thank you 😊
👍🥰 Beautiful!
You did a beautiful job matching stripes for the yolk. The blouse itself is very beautiful and you did a great job! I like the length of the blouse and the sleeves too! Very well done!
Hello. You are very talented and very creative. Thank you
I was thinking wow! I’m learning so much and then you said let me know if this is helpful ☺. Thank you! I love that shirt!
Вы такая умничка!!!Спасибо Вам за работу!!!🤩
Светлана, большое спасибо!
Creativity at its best. Thank you
Love it 👍😎🐕🦺!!!
Thank you!
Another inspiring video! Please keep the tips coming, they're always appreciated, and while I might not fully grasp every single tip, it's never caused me any confusion regarding following along with the main idea of what you're presenting. Now, I thought the end result looked great. Love the whole block effect and overall style of the shirt. And I also thought the muslin piece you made looked great just the way it was with the short length and buttoned up collar. I thought it suited you well. As an aside, the Super Nervous Laugh..." moment really cracked me up. So relatable!
Oh yes... at that point I was getting a little (read - VERY) NERVOUS that I won't have enough fabric, although I counted that I should have enough, but with scraps it is always a gamble :) I am so happy extra tips help, especially that sometimes they really depend on a very particular project/fabric :)
Oooh fabulous.
Marvelous! 💙🤍💙
You are fantastic! I really hope that you continue making these videos. 😍
Very nice. Love your creativity. Now, on to the video link you posted; I am very impressed with the design you are wearing right now.
Ah, thank you! I love this green/white t-shirt! I wear it all the time :)
Fantastic tutorial. I get so many ideas from your inspiration, and you reaffirm that some things I have tried are really great. As an example, I was making a quilt from waterfall fabric...I was two squares short to make it a larger 'lap' 'throw' size. I took my scraps, lined them up, sewed them up and cut them into the two squares I needed. If I don't tell anyone two squares were pieced, they would never know.
I know now it will also work on a garment as well. The yoke is a great place to 'stretch' the fabric available.
Your linen shirt is wonderful.
Love it! ☺
Thank you, Julie!
Love your videos.
Love the shirt and how you used the scraps. Very nice.
Very creative, plus I learn from you in a fun & easy way! Thanks for sharing! 🤗💜🇨🇦
