Hats off to Lorne Michaels and Jane Curtain for helping create one of the most enduring shows in TV history. Both utilized their tremendous talents to produce an entetainment legacy that has stood unrivaled for a half century. As to Curtain asking Michaels to confront Belushi's addiction; You cannot help an addict unless they want help. Also this would have been challenging for Michaels to address Belushi's drug use beacuse so many of the cast and guests were on drugs at the time, that you would have had to literally fire half the cast and writers plus bar a large percentage of the guests in order to earnestly deal with the issue. From personal experience I can tell you that all addicts are selfish and destructive, and if you cannot establish and maintain a very firm boundary early on , the addict will ultimately manipulate you and inflict great harm on your life. In the end, you will be both angry with the addict as well as yourself for being so foolish. Hats off again to Jane Curtain for steering clear of Belushi and the destructive trappings of fame. Her body of work is a testimony to both her talent and wise personal choices.
Well said, you obviously have quite a few functional brain cells left. My ex wife is an addict and used meth, cocaine and alcohol while pregnant with my son. I had never been involved with an addict before so I got an education. It was a surprise when I discovered what she had been doing when she was in labor and admitted to her drug use. It went from a wonderful experience to being in fear that my son was going to be harmed. He’s 26 years old now and has some issues. My ex never had to spend a day behind bars even though she forged court ordered urine tests in addition to harming our son. I had to fight for 50-50 custody. If it had been me who used drugs I probably wouldn’t have seen my kids. She’s 60 years old now and still drinks. Loved Jane Curtain's character, and Roseanne Rosannadana. So funny when Dan Ackroid's character said, "Jane, you stupid slut". I would roll off the couch with laughter.
I hear that Chevy Chase was the most hated person on SNL and just in life. When they toasted Chevy Chase some years ago not many people showed up and I was surprised by that because I always love him and all the cast from the 70’s. Saturday night was the best time to watch SNL and get high.
It doesn't surprise me one bit. I found Chevy Chase to be neither versatile nor funny, and he came across as extremely arrogant. Bill Murray blew him out of the water IMO, although apparently Murray is a nightmare to work with as well. Don't know if that was the case in the SNL days.
I can’t believe that Jane doesn’t find the old show funny! It was often hilarious, including her bits, though it was uneven. But that’s live TV for you.
You completely ignored the Oprah interview where she talked about how threatened Belushi was by women with comedic talent. He was a bully and fought against every skit proposed by one of the women. And let’s not forget about his time at the playboy mansion where he engaged in weird sexual acts. He was a monster
Tell you what... I would have rather heard her speak for herself than to have some voice-over speak for her. This is NOT a video of Jane Curtin confirming anything.
I have read a lot of articles about Chevy Chase's "Jekyll & Hyde" persona. He is funny in the movies, but is usually a bastard in real life apparently... Quite a few celebrities have the same problem... Maybe money can't buy happiness after all.
1979 at Second City in Chicago I was there with what would later become my wife. And outcomes John Baluchi. And you could tell he was high. He was bouncing all over the stage, asking people what he should do a skit on, and it finally ended up with something about a garden hose, it was fun to see him but it just broke my heart what happened to him?
It was routine for us to be huddled in someone living room every Saturday night. As I now watch it again, I realize we were stoned, and it's really not that funny overall but has some really great moments .
A behind-the-scenes fight between Bill Murray & former cast member Chevy Chase, and Jane Curtain was there to witness it… Oh yeah? So what? We’ve all known about it since it went down in February of 1978!
I remember asking this as a kid, Why do people think SNL is funny? A little funny now and then? Sure, but that could be said of nearly every show; for the most part, it just seemed to me dumb, to the point of tedious. Then comes along Jane Curtin to say I was not the only one. It took 50 years, but it was worth the wait.
Not sure how accurate you are on the Murray/Chase relationship getting better on the set of Caddyshack. I recall a pretty big fight where Chase claimed Murray almost ran him down with that huge landscaping thing they drove with all the blades. Anyway, Jane Curtain was definitely an unsung Not Ready for Prime Time Player. I loved her work on SNL.
still ike snl, but that original crew was something else!!! they were brewed out of the 60's, and places like the hasty pudding at harvard, and 2nd city......national lampoon was a huge influence...theres nothing like that today- it was a particular humor of the time.
The Murray/Chase fight was common knowledge. You can see during the "goodnights" (while the credits role) how pissed off Bill Murray is after that episode.
What did she expect Lorne to do? And once he tried to do anything he wanted to be on the hook for that? Dan was the right person to get involved ... she should laud him instead of criticizing Lorne.
@@FactsVerse Love watching old clips and realizing how society has changed. What was popular culture is far from today's standards. Not all the changes are good.
never knew belushi, but could tell he was always coked out, he always had the look, 'i'm here, but not really.' agree with curtin, the show has always been shit, a hit and miss skit show, mostly miss, proof a weekly live show with a host really isn't great material, but they were young hipsters and "dangerous". most of us who watched were stoned, laughs were rare, it was just something we watched as friends.
The one thing that I truly agree with Jane Curtin is that the original SNL was not all that great. So many of those skits just sat there and died, with some incredibly bad writing. The best thing about the shows of that era were when Steve Martin appeared, as well as Father Guido Sarducci's very funny monologues. Those things were great fun, but most of the rest of it was, as they might say, bad theater.

@@amibluefulBill was definitely the funnier ghost buster.
Showtime produced a Belushi documentary. It’s streaming now. There’s a collection of clips that prove John was the best of a great group.
Interesting, thanks for sharing this info! We'llw catch the documentary ♥♥
But a sexist pig. Glad he’s gone.
Remember back when SNL was really good? You'd have to be really old to remember that!
I always thought that Jane was the prettiest of the original cast members. That made the famous line, “Jane, you ignorant slut” more funny.
I can’t believe that Jane doesn’t find the old show funny! It was often hilarious, including her bits, though it was uneven. But that’s live TV for you.
I remember when snl started in the 70s.
You completely ignored the Oprah interview where she talked about how threatened Belushi was by women with comedic talent. He was a bully and fought against every skit proposed by one of the women. And let’s not forget about his time at the playboy mansion where he engaged in weird sexual acts. He was a monster
Jane is awesome. Period.

She was great on SNL and third rock😅

Garett Morris was demeaned by the others for not being a trained actor. He was talented, with a magnificent operatic singing voice.
I thought Jane Curtain was boring on SNL, but on 3rd Rock From the Sun she was hillarious!!!
She was brilliant as Dicks disfunctional crush.
Those cast fights were likely fueled by booze and cocaine.
A behind-the-scenes fight between Bill Murray & former cast member Chevy Chase, and Jane Curtain was there to witness it…
Oh yeah? So what? We’ve all known about it since it went down in February of 1978!
Must of been watching reruns, because I watched him in 1975, and he left the show in '76.
This would have been so much better had we heard from Curtain’s various interviews.
SNL was like herding cats.
I like how we never got to hear her speak and were only told by your.
True.
Thanks for watching! We're glad to know that you love our video. If we may ask, what other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
So, watched the entire video and didn't learn anything new. No new details on anything was revealed. Do you even know any details?
Wait wait I don't understand why is this so funny when the guy was singing with his underwear 🤣🤣🤣
still ike snl, but that original crew was something else!!! they were brewed out of the 60's, and places like the hasty pudding at harvard, and 2nd city......national lampoon was a huge influence...theres nothing like that today- it was a particular humor of the time.
yup. Belushi started it, for pure entertainment 😂
The Murray/Chase fight was common knowledge. You can see during the "goodnights" (while the credits role) how pissed off Bill Murray is after that episode.
Where would Murray have been if Chase didn’t leave?
True dat alley cat 🐱
What did she expect Lorne to do? And once he tried to do anything he wanted to be on the hook for that? Dan was the right person to get involved ... she should laud him instead of criticizing Lorne.
Would've been nice to have heard from Jane herself.
Wow, this is 100% misinformation. She was the most replaceable, and as you can see, a bitter Karen that is all about women issues that are not real.
Nothing new here other than someone agreeing that 90% of the show sucked.
The constraints of woke ideals today have made SNL boring. Glad to have been around for the "glory years" of the show.
She should have been a serious actress. She had the chops for the big screen.
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
The best of SNL was in the 70's. Most of it wouldn't be funny now. It was the times and our ages.

@@FactsVerse Love watching old clips and realizing how society has changed. What was popular culture is far from today's standards. Not all the changes are good.
Somewhere along the way, breaking character became the only way the show can be funny anymore.
never knew belushi, but could tell he was always coked out, he always had the look, 'i'm here, but not really.' agree with curtin, the show has always been shit, a hit and miss skit show, mostly miss, proof a weekly live show with a host really isn't great material, but they were young hipsters and "dangerous". most of us who watched were stoned, laughs were rare, it was just something we watched as friends.
Original SNL was far superior to the garbage of today.
This would be much better if you skipped the narrative except for some short introductions to excerpts/clips that you are talking about.
Very anticlimactic video🥴
A bit less narrator commentary and more footage of actual SNL skits might have been better received.
Who the hell wants to hear you narrate 100% of this video??
Belushi was an addict? I’m shocked!
tl;dw: she didn't get along with John Belushi because he was an addict.
Chevy Chase left SNL in 1976 not 1978
The one thing that I truly agree with Jane Curtin is that the original SNL was not all that great. So many
of those skits just sat there and died, with some incredibly bad writing. The best thing about the shows
of that era were when Steve Martin appeared, as well as Father Guido Sarducci's very funny monologues.
Those things were great fun, but most of the rest of it was, as they might say, bad theater.
LACK of awareness of "cultural appropriation"? GMAFB.
