I am a guy with autism and I love it. It's not a bad thing. I'm usually either really good at something or really bad it. I was born to be a basketball player. My advice to parents, help them grow their obsessions and they'll be very happy. Whatever you do, don't kill the obsession.

U r an inspiration for so many parents out there who Google n Google and get an impression of nightmare about autism.
May God bless u n ur family.
One thing that I belive as parents just we just hv to give our best to our kids and the rest should hv belive in Almighty.because even for non autistic child we can't predict the future.
My friends son starts talking at 4 and now she forgot all the struggle all the worries she used to had for him she's just happy for him.and that's what matters

I just watched all of your videos, my son seems to show all the exact same signs your son did and I’m rushed with emotions hearing Dexter’s story but I hope you know how much I appreciate you sharing his story. This has been a very isolating and emotional journey and your videos have been immensely helpful. Wish your family the best!

You are amazing! I am so happy I found your channel. Every child is exactly who he or she is supposed to be. They are perfectly developed in every way. These charts and grafts have gone way too far. I completely agree! When did childhood become a competition?

    • @NurturingNeurodiversity

I know right?! Amen to everything you said! It annoys me too that whenever a child achieves something, the parent is often quick to take the credit, but whenever any difficulties arise, the first thing we do is look for a reason as to why it isn't our 'fault.' Can't we all just appreciate our children as individuals and support them as best we can without always looking for reasons as to why they are good at/struggling with different things? Anyway, don't get me started haha. Thank you for your lovely comment.

Thank you for this video. What you’re doing is truly inspirational and gives me hope that my daughter will do well, despite having an autism diagnosis. What matters is that she is happy and I can truly say my kid is happy. Thank you for reminding me that this is the most important thing!

My child is 2, not yet diagnosed by a doctor, but I know he is special. From the very beginning he had been in a special place in my entire family. He had always been so loving and innocent that many of my family members pointed it out even when he was an infant.
Yes it had been a really really difficult time for me and my husband since we have figured out but you know what... When one prays and prays .. you ultimately realize that Almighty Lord has His own ways... We don't know what it is but I can feel somewhere inside that my child is very special in this world. The way he looks into my eyes...the way he communicates without a single word or sound with me....the way he smiles back at me when I'm worried looking at him...... I know he knows I'm in pain...but at the same time he tells me that mom don't worry and have faith in Lord Almighty.
Thanks to Lord that I found you. I got so many answers to my desperate questions through you... I pray that your child Dexter will bring more and more blessings to you and your family. May he be blessed forever.

I must say, I agree with 99% of what you have said in this video as well as others. However, the teeny tid bit that I will question, is the milestone charts are necessary so that first time parents, and those who don't spend time around other kids, are aware of what neurotypical milestones are. Eg. If your child isn't pointing, you may not know that they need to. The milestone chart will flag that as a deficit. Thank you for your videos. Im on this journey with you, and through you. Your positivity is infectious.

Thank you for watching :) I agree they are useful, they were useful for me to realise the lack of non verbal communication in my son. It’s once you know they're developing differently and have support in place that you need to let go of them. Maybe i should have made that clearer :) thank you for your comment x

Just landed here. We suspect our 25 mo might have an atypical development, and it is quite subtle (most signs can be attributed to something other than autism or ADHD). I like very much your video. I do find the island metaphor quite puzzling though. I am not sad because I look around and compare my child with others. I am sad because we cannot connect and engage woth our son in communication unless he initiates it. I understand that for many people the external factor of comparison can be a huge thing. Which does not mean the internal (in-family) problems which parents are experiencing are unreal.

Once my son turned 12 I noticed that he started lagging behind all his peers. My friends had kids around his age and I was noticing this. I was told he would grow out of it. At the time I had ppd and extreme anxiety and people were saying that I was clingy to my son. I'm thinking they probably just thought I was exaggerating. Once he turned 15 I noticed I declined. I feel guilty. I wish I would have said something earlier and gotten this process started earlier.

Hi dear .. i like ur channel and the way u r dealing with ur son .. i just would like to bring ur attention as well as other parents.. not all children missing milestone(s) that means s/he is autistic.. there are so many other reasons .. especially id the child was born prematurely .. or having other problems at birth or afterward like head injury .. also some metabolic condition can lead to such problem.. another thing is malnutrition .. and so many things that i cant write all of them .. i just wanted to highlight on this .. my best regards and wishes

Iv been researching for a possible reason of my child of not hitting d milestone. I think u had me when u said head injury bcoz my son falls down from our bed 2x at 2mons and 7mons old. He's 18 months old as of today n a lot of milestones he is not good at but he loves to mingle wd other kids that's why i think its just a mild autism caused by falling from the bed

I have been wondering if any of the professionals involved with your son have suggested you do either the Early Bird Autism Course or the More than Words course, or if you have done them? I'm only asking because I did both courses before our 6 Yr old son was diagnosed almost 3 yrs ago and they were both invaluable to me not just due to the knowledge I gained but from the friendships I made.
