Been trying to get one of those you mentioned in most drafts, and have gotten 1 in +60% so far. However, I noticed you don't have Evan Engram on your list... he's my highest drafted TE@ (23%), do to either missing out on the top 7, and/or because I have a lot of Trevor. Is it because he tends to have a more normally point distribution and less likely to have the Kittle like spike weeks?
ya, most of these other guys have paths to being the alpha or at least #2, and in the case of kittle, he spikes harder with that higher adot. i dont think engram is a bad pick, but it is a tier break for me
Peter, when you do go Elite TE who are you looking for at TE2 or what range? Are you typically targeting a stack or week 17 bring back?
ive been mixing it up. ive paired bowers w/ elite te a bunch. my other fav targets are freiermuth, juwan johnson, and fant. but mainly use that 2nd te for correlation purposes like you said...like yesterday on ship chasing we did kincaid early but had stroud, so i did schultz as our te2

not a dumb question, it is a tier break by ADP and i also think a tier break based on talent/situation. historically tes in their adp range have been dicier bets (and they are more expensive than previous years too). i think all of those guys are capable of single week spikes, but far less likely to get a full season breakout like the others. i dont mind those guys, but prefer them more in stacks/correlations, where i dont mind the top 7 elite tes as one offs

do we consider jake ferguson to have a week winning ceiling as well from the top edge of the non-elites? not saying ADP should rise to those top 7 but he had 3 TDs the last game he played. its something.
ya, i think he clearly has that week-winning ceiling, i just think true breakout is v small and his profile isn't near as exciting as those other 7
The way TE has worked for UD drafts is basically this. The top 3 TE’s are severely worth any price you can take them at. Otherwise, 3 late round shots are what you need, with at least 1-2 of them being upside shots. So really, the difficult thing is predicting who will be a top 3 TE in PPG. You showed 7 viable candidates this year, and I agree they all have the potential. But the reality is that 4 of them most likely won’t be good enough on a PPG basis to make a difference. And with Kelce and Andrews no longer being guaranteed, it’s going to be honestly all down to who drafts one of the correct truly elite TEs on the year.
yup, i think that's well said. and bc of how those few TEs who hit separate, they become the guy you need to either get to tthe finals or win it all, so it's worth accepting the bust risk of the cohort for that outcome. it's very similar to taking a rb early -- v good chance a barkley or jt bust, but in the scenarios where they do hit ceiling the will be advance rate monsters
I autodrafted the first 6 picks of this team on DK. I stepped in Round 7 but the first 3 picks were Rbs. At first I was livid lol but i think I recovered ok. Thoughts from anyone are welcomed.

The spike week point is well-taken and I’m generally bought in to this strategy. I do wonder, however, how relevant the historical data is given how dramatically the draft environment has shifted. Instead of choosing an elite TE over a dead zone running back, you’re using one of your increasingly rare shots inside the window of WRs who actually have league-winning upside. The QB market has also gotten more efficient, so the elites going in that range are more likely than before to be the top guys at that position. Feels like the opportunity cost has shifted, which I think would offset the notion that the elite TEs are cheaper than ever before at least to some degree. Am I way off base here?
i think that argument cuts both ways, the wrs going in that range are historically weaker than they've ever been bc they are now massively pushed up. in those 2015-2020 windows it was possible to get top 12 wrs in rds 3/4
