Speaking of Skrillex I ask Chatgpt why his productions are so good and this is what it told me: "Also, keep in mind that skrillex productions often involve a team of engineers, sound designers, and other professionals working together to create a final product." It said he's good but I say this because big artist have access to resources that we don't have, and what they're always selling us is a bit of a facade.
Music theory is essential and I get pissed when I see RUclips videos saying it's irrelevant and you don't need to learn it, yeah that's fine if you can't be bothered but don't wonder why your music sounds like shit and like everybody else. You don't need to learn it to a degree level but knowing basics like the circle of 5ths, major & minor scales and chords will make you a better musician/composer/producer. I spent 9 years from the age of 7 having Trumpet and Piano lessons and studied A level Music and Music Tech at college in the UK. If I didn't I wouldn't be a Musician, Composer and Teacher today.
It's 2023 and people are still seriously hating on FL Studio, especially its design and workflow. I mean, I love those DAW war memes and sh*tposting stuffs but those people seem to be GENUINELY hating on FL just because it's literally 'built different'.
Sample heads always talk like they're doing more than lining up someone else's music to a loop. You literally couldn't make music without people who don't use samples making it for u.
You have to use sidechain in extreme forms of metal. In fact, until I started producing i thought people just played their guitar like that. They don't.
10:35 omg i really hate when people say that. i swear people act like the internet is only youtube instagram and twitter lmao. youtube tutorials literally only gonna get u so far. so much knowledge out there
I feel like pluggg is definitely it's own genre, cause plugg n b stemmed from it and plugg n b has its own wave rn. But at the end of the day just make what you wanna make !
Hardware does negate some issues with inaccurate peak detection(the reason streaming services ask for files with -1db true peak is because of this inaccuracy) and cramping of high frequencies found in digital domains. In digital you can fix these problems by oversampling. BUT oversampling creates further issues by altering the impulse response which can smear transients and fuck with your compression and limiting. Software is almost as good as hardware. But software has fundamental inaccuracies and distortions which are present in the mathematics they operate with, which are not present in hardware, since hardware operates by the laws of physics, instead of informational abstractions. That being said, Im 100% in the box, and I'm fully satisfied with digital, for now.

Here’s my hot take: I hate that a sub bass is now called an “808” yah I get that it has a pitch envelope but it’s still a sub bass. It completely ruins any conversation about actual 808 drums, I can’t say how may times Ive had to clarify that. These are the same people that came up with “aux cord”

2:58 analog is probably better for feedback patching but it def costs a lot more. i design analog modules instead of digital for the most part just cos i wanna do something different and make each not just the same shell with different code
How to make any loop free: half time reverse pitch and then chop that bad boy up might as well be a new melody or you can look up actual music theory chord progressions because there is a name for almost everything you wanna do learn and apply takes 15 mins
Hmmm. the one about shitty mixing sounding underground is interesting but I would say that was the case 30 years ago when really the only way to get a really polished sound was get produced by a major label, because hardware gear was just way to expensive for the average dude to contemplate owning. Due to this there was definately a preference for crappy sounding music {Nirvana Bleach is a great example of this. Its charm was that it sounded like it was recorded in a trash can. I think today though, you can make a really great mix for virtually free with software and learn how to mix on RUclips so there is no excuses for sounding like shit.......
