UPDATE: O'Connor have replied to the feedback in the video saying they are going to adjust the design of the plate at the back of the tripod to have more rounded corners.

Definitely a dream setup, combining the quality and name of O'Connor with the awesome innovation of the flowtech line... I've rented the O'Connor 2575 head on all my larger production jobs and it's a beautiful tripod head to work with. Can only imagine this being an excellent addition to the family that allows solo ops to get the very best from their tripod movements

We film mostly with our O'Connor 1030D and Sachtler Flowtech 100 - a VERY similar setup. It has proven to be very fast and smooth. This package in the video seems like a natural progression. With the 1030D you could order it with a couple of different release plate styles - maybe that will be the case with the new 1040. The 1040 and Flowtech 100 should be the perfect combo for larger camera packages on shoots that require top quality and speed.

Actually, I don't think those sharp corners are a 'small thing'. In a professional world where you move quickly, those sharp corners could cause an injury. For me at least, that's a massive turnoff. No thanks to this head.

An alternative to the larger "European Plate" is the "Mini Euro" quick release plate, or perhaps the "sideload" quick release. The 1040 seems to allow for the same dovetail sliding sizes for quick release plates that the 1030 heads use, so any quick release compatible with those will work on it.

I agree and I can't understand why OConnor can't see the issue here but unless I'm missing something one of the many files I have in my shed should sort it out. Yes, I shouldn't have to do it but rarely we buy a bit of kit that works right out-of-the-box, we modify just about every piece of kit we get so why should this be any different.

Good news, O'Connor have listened and changed the design! Production units will now have rounded corners on the back of that plate

I love my Flowtech 75, it’s the perfect pair with my Sony A7 series camera’s. But now since I own both Red & Arri mini LF the 100mm ball head tripod is needed & this one looks promising 👌🏻🔥
