I bought a used Compass 20 in part because of this video. Apart from not being able to use it with lighter setups because of the 4.4lb minimum payload, it's a massive improvement over the plasticky, sludgy Manfrotto I was using before. Movements are incredibly smooth, drag adjustment feels definite, and the whole system feels like it could survive a bomb blast.
Probably going to pick up a Miller Air for my light setup now.
I love the Compass20 and still use mine all the time!

Some people say gear doesn't matter, but if you have ever used an expensive but excellent tripod you can understand why people invest in quality.
Great timing. I was about to buy a Miller CX8 fluid head (Currently using DS20). Kit isn't massive. FX6 medium build or Monstro but nothing crazy heavy.
I really like the side mounting block on the CV8 plus the whip pan (zero drag) can come in handy.
No sure I'm ready for a $10k head though.
I originally set my sights on an ArrowX 5 but I couldn't pass up this deal. Plus those Flowtech legs are really quick. Miller heads are still some of my favorites.
@@robchado what does this oconner head have over the miller arrow x5? And when does whip pan zero drag come in handy ? I live in Vegas as well

@@robchado well I change my mind and ended up buying a Miller CiNX3 tripod setup. Not quite $10k but close enough… it’s amazing! I can’t believe I never invested in a proper tripod like this!
What is better about the miller cx8 over the miller ds20?
Congrats on your first big boy fluid head. 10k+ systems not including spreaders is a standard. DPs prefer to choose their own. This head isn’t great for repeatable pan tilt - no drag numbers, otherwise the sinusoidal is a benefit. I’d never go with flow-tech myself, fundamental design flaw in the lock release. Don’t worry you will buy another tripod system in your career. Been there done that. There’s still a lot of advancement left to be made in this area.
Because of this design flaw what does that mean ? And what system would you recommend around same price ?

Did You buy "OConnor Arri Style Dovetail Plate for 1030/1040" ? Is it worth?
I did. It was worth it for me because I'm switching between VCT and dovetail between every job so I don't need to constantly swap plates.
