I feel compelled to do this , after paying out the nose for fuel in my beloved TX , I never dreamed I would be paying close to $3 a gallon , I found BYD and the Shark , wow , game changer. no risk no reward 🤠
After I sold my dads truck ( dodge 1500 ) because I could not afford the fuel. I dreamed of a hybrid truck. when I saw the Shark in MX , it is so perfect , every button , every detail , just as I had envisioned , unbelievable. there are no PHEV in the U.S. , there is not one truck in the U.S. that I am interested in .my whole goal is to show folks this truck ,to show the technology , the affordability 🤠
There is no import tax when you cross the border in a mexican plated vehicle. And you can drive the vehicle for a year, not that anybody is paying attention. I have done it many times and thousands do it every day. There might be an import fee if you try to register the vehicle in another US state.
sorry , I meant Duty Tax, this is off the CBP site : Dutiable Entry Foreign-made vehicles imported into the U.S., whether new or used, either for personal use or for sale, are generally dutiable at the following rates: Auto 2.5% Trucks 25%
my wife is a non resident : Nonresidents may import a vehicle duty-free for personal use up to (1) one year if the vehicle is imported in conjunction with the owner's arrival. Vehicles imported under this provision that do not conform to U.S. safety and emission standards must be exported within one year and may not be sold in the U.S. There is no exemption or extension of the export requirements.
Remember the Shark needs cell coverage for updates and Nav. Will it connect to US cell networks? Remember BYD provides the sim card. And it's probably connected the the Mexican network.
thats a good question , the review I saw where the Shark was in El Paso , TX , the infotainmnet seemed to work fine . but that is something I need to look at , my cell has service for US and Mexico 🤠
I said think of it as an EV , yes it is a PHEV , with the gas part of the engine acting as a "generator" to charge the battery. The 100% tariff is applied when registering the vehicle in the U.S. , the 25 % fee is a duty tax you would have to pay when crossing the border. 25% of USD$52K ( US side) . I just spoke with CBP agent , basically it is going to be a complicated issue. if I drive the vehicle in Mcallen , TX , basically no issue, the agent said 72 hours but could be longer, would need to return to MX , when I drive it past the secondary checkpoint becomes the issue . the checkpoint that is up the road , although I thought that checkpoint was for immigration only. the vehicle can not be in my wifes name since she is a permanent resident , the CBP agent said my wife can not own a Mexican plated vehicle . Im going to ask a customs broker if this is correct .
I am thinking why wouldn’t you register the car in your wife’s name ? As you cross the border if that car is in your name I would imagine they will say you are importing the vehicle permanently and you will have to pay 100 % duty . Best thing when you hit the border don’t volunteer too much information only answer questions they ask . If they ask if the car is staying in the USA you tell them just going up for trip with the car just like any other Mexican car that is traveling into the USA . I wouldn’t be saying anything about being there one year or paying 2,5 % duty . At that point they could request all kinds of paperwork that the car meets US standards and then have to pay 100% tariff. If you don’t have the paperwork that the car meets US standards they will turn you back at the border. Really your biggest worry is having to pay that 100 % tariff going through that border could open up a whole can of worms with you sitting in the drivers seat . Best put it in your wife’s name and have her drive it through
I spoke with a CBP agent that works the Hidalgo , TX bridge , they are going to make this difficult. The agent said my wife ( permanent resident ) cannot own a Mexican plated vehicle or she can own one but would have to give up her resident card ( green card) if she wanted to have a Mexican plated vehicle. if we just drove it around Mcallen , TX for a few days and then returned to MX , sounds like there is not a problem. so Im going to do more research . I really wanted to drive it to the San Antonio area . right now it looks like if I buy one , garage in Reynosa , drive it on the weekends in Mcallen tX , buy one and use it when I am in Cancun , or keep it in MTY . there is an exception and really what I want to do is use it for testing / show , but even that looks concerning : Those temporarily imported for testing, demonstration, or competition, provided they are not licensed for use, or driven on public roads. These vehicles may be operated on public roads or highways provided the operations are an integral part of the test. Parties responsible for such vehicles must submit proper documents - forms EPA 3520-1 and DOT HS-7 - to CBP at the time entry is made. Also, applicable written approvals from these agencies must be obtained in advance and presented to CBP along with these forms. Remember, the cost to return vehicles that have been refused prior approval can be very high and must be borne by the vehicle owner(s).
really ?lol. do tell. So I can not buy my dream truck because it was made in China? how many products do you use daily that were made in China? my family has more than paid our dues for this country , I will always stand up for Texans and the American people .🤠
As an ZEEKR EV owner, I fully understand how your feel and what you are doing. Wish you good luck!
I appreciate that . Im going into the unknown , not sure how the Shark will be accepted in the USA , I feel like its gonna be a winner 🤠
@@uncledeeproductions8854 Make sure it can get insured in US before you put down your deposit.
Finally a video from an actual American owner of a Chinese EV!
not yet , but very close ! going back in a few weeks , either MTY or CUN 🤠
Apparently, the administrators of the United States consider that only Chinese people can buy stuff like EVs with a reasonable price😊
if this was a true free market society , BYD would be able to sell the Shark here. My country will not let me buy my dream truck . 🤠
You are a true pioneer sir. I appreciate your going through the trail and error.
I feel compelled to do this , after paying out the nose for fuel in my beloved TX , I never dreamed I would be paying close to $3 a gallon , I found BYD and the Shark , wow , game changer. no risk no reward 🤠
Texan culture is really something else... so pioneering...

How do tariffs work with secondhand vehicles?
good question. I would assume the same. I need to look at research it . 🤠

They’re compatible seamlessly US doesn’t want to disconnect from the world even cooperating with Huawei on 5G and 6G standards
@@donkeykong516 interesting , good Q & A as no one as asked this before 🤠
The Shark is not an EV, it's a plug-in Hybrid. Does the 100% tariff still apply or would it just be the 25% truck tariff?

how many months you have to pay that 1000 bucks?? 36 month??
72 months with BBVA , they recommend paying extra each month . 🤠
if you paid it out for the 72 months it is $1,377,577.35 MXN , approx USD $64K
