We have a byd sealion and its a very good purchase so far. 100 pesos on electricity per day to travel from ortigas to quezon city and back. Comparing to our toyotas, build quality, suspension is solid. Very comfortable car. 😊
I like this kind of videos, sobrang informative. All comes with years of experience in automotive. May technical side and sharing of experiences that nobody knows about lalo na sa mga baguhang car owner. Ganda isipin na si team dy is leaning towards hybrid that means hybrid is the big thing now given na si team dy galing sa ce engines. Wow. I owned a toyota yaris cross and hesitant ako mag hev. This is just a statement of trusting for hybrid is a no brainer for first time car buyers. Minsan masarap makinig sa ganito kesa sa mga car agents na just looking for a sale. Kudos!
Maganda resale value explanation - makes sense for those who update to new cars regularly. But for the long term owners-- who keep cars for 10~20 years, it remains to be seen. Key dito yung parts durability and availability. My Japanese cars are 17 and 24 years old and going strong. I'm watching the Chinese cars space for the next 10 years. Promising naman, if you look at MG cars from 2015.
For SL6 na 18kwh siguro more than 600k. Hindi nila sasabihin ang price sa yo. Bawi naman sa savings pero try to sell it after 4 years mahirap ibenta kasi aabutan sila ng battery expiration. Also mas matipid ang Toyota CCX kasi everytime na mag charge ka ng SL6 ang cost ng electricity is 290. With the same distance travelled ng CCX you will only par around 270.
Subscribed for the BYD updates. Nagpareserve na kami ng sealion 6 and most likely we'll be getting a unit this coming January. Hope to see how the after sales service are like with BYD.
Thank you sir for creating this channel. I kinda like the BYD sealion 6 but I'm a bit hesitant. I would love to see more videos from you especially about maintenance. Thank you.
I also don't believe sa resale value. Buy something that you will enjoy driving. If you are going to buy because of resale value mastress ka lang in the long run. Gaya ng sinabi ni Sir TeamDy, marami kang kakompetensya sa reselling, matagal makahanap ng direct buyer, mauubos oras mo sa dami ng magiinquire sayo and ang bagsak mo din is sa buy and seller ka mag bebenta which is mababa din ang resale value. And one more thing I like tech and innovation, kaya enjoy ako sa SL6 ko ngayon. It is really a bang for the buck! Not like the legacy car manufacturers na ang basic trim is expensive na pag nilagyan pa ng tech x2 ang price. Good choice sir! Enjoy your new car! 🏎️
I agree with you. You buy a car according to your liking and because of your needs. Resale value in this country is simply brand based and brand biased. Value is based on the actual condition and history of a unit.
Agree 101% with all the things you mentioned. ICE have reached it's peak and still not efficient in the city. I got my Sealion 2 months ago. I still use my state of the art ICE cars 2 years old brand new once a week.
@TeamDyTV You have a very good review. DM-i is a breakthrough until we transition to full EV. I think we just need a cheaper/better battery than Lithium Ion technology to entice people to transition. You are clearly following the evolution of ICE engines. Most of them i already know, but you have more knowledge. Very impressive and informative. Good job, sir. Have you checked the new Honda's eHEV? Although it is not plug in as the SL6, it is similar in technology. They use electric motor to propel the wheels, and ICE acts like a generator. There is a good YT that explains the whole concept. The new RAMcharger in the US is also using similar technology.
As for resale value, your desired price is only as good as there is a buyer for your car. If you don’t need the money, you can wait and wait until someone buys your car at your desired price. But if you need the money or just need to dispose of your car, you will want to sell your car at a price much lower your desired price. This applies to any car. And when you sell a car, would-be buyers will be looking at certain parameters like mileage, etc. I got my SL6 not for its resale value.
Yes, parang mas kampante padin kapag hybrids compared to a full EV, exactly, sa panahon ngayon bro dapat wise spending na talaga tayo, huwag basta bili nalang ng bili. Good thing you would update us sa journey mo regarding owning a hybrid. Actually, that BYD is on the top of my list. Thanks Bro.
Pero with regard to the resale value, let’s consider the BYD Sealion. We are getting value here-sobrang nagkakalayo ang presyo na inilabas sa atin compared sa ibang Asian countries. In fact, sa Australia, it’s over ₱2 million, ganoon din sa UK, mataas rin ang presyo. Tapos dito, we are covered by EVIDA tax benefits at subsidized pa ng China. Kung titignan mo, ang factory competitors nito ay tulad ng RAV4 at Outlander, which are double the price. So isipin mo na lang, from the start, you’re already getting double the value with the BYD Sealion. Next year naman, gagamitin ng Toyota ang DMI technology ng Sealion, with that association, malay mo it holds It's value well. Mas mura siya sa simula, may cheaper PMS, at matipid sa gasolina in the long run. Every kilometer you travel, nakakatipid ka-kaya sulit pa rin ang investment mo overall.
Resale value? Their 1.5engine is not reliable. Unlike Toyota…they used trusted&reliable engine before converting it to a hybrid. For BYD’s engine its too early to tell. The newly lunch SEAL5…has a horendous review on other countries.
Just to clarify the notion about DMi tech, Toyota will use it in their plug-in hybrid offering, not in their current hybrid models. By then, it would make an interesting comparison on their pricing (apples to apples na)
@noski33 If we’re talking about apples-to-apples comparisons, the Toyota bZ3 and BYD Seal are great examples since they’re both electric sedans, and the bZ3 even uses BYD’s Blade battery technology. The bZ3 starts at 189,800 CNY (around $27,000) with a 65.28 kWh battery, 616 km range (CLTC), and 245 HP. Meanwhile, the BYD Seal starts at 212,800 CNY (around $30,100) with an 82.5 kWh battery, 700 km range (CLTC), and optional AWD with 530 HP and 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. Even though the Seal is slightly more expensive, you’re paying for far superior specs, better performance, and the same Blade battery technology that Toyota borrows. In the Philippines, the BYD Seal 5 (plug-in hybrid) starts at just ₱995,000-₱1,200,000, while the Hybrid Corolla Cross from Toyota starts at ₱1.5m without plug-in hybrid tech or EV range. Based on pricing and specs, BYD wins in value while Toyota relies heavily on its badge.
@ thanks. Since I'm looking for a personal car (meaning 5-seater), the Seal might be the deal for me. As long as it's hybrid, I'll consider (can't rely on pure EV at this point like TeamDY). Update: Seal is a NO for me. It's a sedan with 16cm ground clearance and effing long at 4.78m, also doesn't have most of the safety features of CX
Great video, very informative! Very detailed yung mga points na sinasabi mo sir. Time will tell if BYD can prove itself in the PH market. Also I'm very interested din sa Lynk and Co 01, if you have time please do a comparo with SL6! Thanks
Not to mention toyota eyeing byd's technology on their future phevs/hevs, that only means byd is something else. 8 years battery warranty pa yan. 🍻
My wife and have a Nissan Terra. We want to upgrade so we are thinking about buying a Sealion or Tang. Not a big fan of hybrid though. With electric though I'm worried about traveling and not being able to chage especially since the infrastructure is not their. Also would hotels and resorts let you use their electricity to charge? The hybri would be more favorable due to said reasons. We could always buy a portable electric generator that could help. I looked at PMS estimates and they are way cheaper than what it is for our Terra too.
honestly, to me hybrid is what you obviously need, buying a full EV and a generator is a double mistake. What is the extra maintenance of the hybrid compared to your peace of mind when going places and enjoying your trip?
@TeamDyTV our Terra is our daily driver and it would be perfect. We have two kids so Tang has an extra row. We travel around 25km's per day so hybrid would be perfect as well.
I'm not sure if it can be called ROI, since you are not really making money from it. By definition, ROI = (profit - cost) / cost, where profit is the amount of money a business has left after subtracting its expenses from its revenue. Maybe if you use it for ride-sharing i.e. Uber/Grab or as a taxi then that would be applicable since there is money coming in. I think it's more like immediate savings - you save more by having relatively lower fuel cost compared to regular ICE cars. And the savings you get from the DM-i technology IS significant. Which is why according to rumors, Toyota may be using it in some of its future models. Great video by the way. I like reviews coming from actual users. I hope you can also post a long-term review down the line, maybe in 3 or 5 years?
Tapos since bago ang brand at technology, wala pa raw masyado parts. Pag nasira sa probinsya, wala raw marunong mag-ayos. Alam mo naman, baka sumabog pa daw kasi electric. Hybrid? Eh sabi nila mas magastos daw kaysa sa regular gas engine. Kaya bakit pa raw ako magpapaka-moderno? Toyota na lang daw kasi “subok na.” Kahit luma, kahit boring, basta daw sure sa tibay.
Sir, are you also getting a spare tire for you sl6? I read this feedback from an owner na hassle ma flatan kasi di maganda ang quality ng tire sealant na provided ng byd, and walang tool na binibigay pang tanggal ng pito ng gulong.
Interesting itong SL6. Will wait for your actual FC sa city. This will help us decide future buyers if worth it ba to switch based on our usage. Currently have a 7yrs old diesel CUV. Ok naman, matipid and no major issues. Typical pms and replacement lng ng worn out parts. If I'm going to sell it and buy this SL6 or other "hybrid" vehicles. I need to shell out atleast 1M. Ang tanong, mababawi ko ba ung 1M in owning a PHEV for say in the next 7yrs? Or gagamitin ko muna ung rule mo sir, I'll save the 1M pang dagdag sa "higher FC cost" and future maintenance of my current car and wait muna tayu say atleast 3-5 more years sa avaialble tech/trend/options by that time?
"Ang tanong, mababawi ko ba ung 1M in owning a PHEV for say in the next 7yrs? " -- mahirap ma achieve yan, cars depreciate whatever brand and energy it uses, yung SL6 may "return" via savings on fuel cost but not to the point that you will recover your entire 1M. how many kms po ba ang daily drive nyo on average?
Sir, what about the Xiaoyun 1.5L hybrid engine of the Sealion 6? May alam ka? When it comes to Blade Battery, confident ako, but I have no knowledge when it comes to the hybrid engine.
Sir anong take mo dun sa walang spare tire? Hindi po ba nakaka worry yun? Hindi ba hassle using the sealant daw, correct me if im wrong. Thanks po sir. Good day
may nagtanong na po sa baba, yes, concern ko yan that's why i'm buying a donut for long trips. but not reason enough for me not to buy the DM-i tech and ignore the price.
I don't intend to sell my old car. But I just want to point out the fallacy in your example. You were trying to sell a car that was resold to you (and you even used it for a few months), so of course the resale value does not apply to you. Also, I don't get why you are looking at engine improvement as solution to fuel consumption for city driving which is highly traffic dependent. Parang may disconnect sa objective. This is just my take though. I still respect your research effort and thought process. And good point ung distributor ng BYD on the issue of reliability. Actually, they have been using BYD in Singapore for 5 years now, and it's quite stable. Looking forward to updates. I have 5 months to decide.
Totoo ka Bro... yun civic ko na 2017 model 10 Gen... tiny R kupa mods... changed colour pa na WOP later after 7 years na benta namin ng 550k.... kaya true d totoo sinasabi na RESALE VALUE...
When I hear a person owning a FORD I immediately fell sorry for this person but in case you sold it Yaaaaaaah good job, now please don’t buy junk from US in future, I owned 3 fords in my 35 years of driving in Canada and US and with ford it was always bad experience even with new fords under warranty I always had to get a dealerships loaner because my fords always were getting fixed. BYD all I know it’s cheap Chinese brand that is weak on its structural and build materials but others then that let’s hope they last same way they look and offer🙏
Hindi po lumang tugtugin sir. Resale value refers to the amount of money a vehicle is worth when you decide to sell it after owning it for a period of time. It is essentially the vehicle’s market value at the time of resale and one factor is depreciation and chinese cars tends to depreciate faster than Japanese or korean cars!
@ we dont know since trump won the presidency and surely ‘The made in China 2025’ will be affected or slowed. Also western companies are moving their company out of china. Lets go back to the topic about resale value and why Chinese Cars Depreciate Faster 1. Brand Perception: • Chinese car brands are often perceived as less reliable or less premium compared to established Japanese (e.g., Toyota, Honda) or Korean (e.g., Hyundai, Kia) brands. • Some buyers associate Chinese cars with lower build quality or limited durability, even though this perception is improving with newer models. 2. Limited Resale Market: • Chinese brands like MG, Changan, or BYD might not yet have a strong second-hand market in some countries, reducing demand and resale value. 3. Parts and Service Network: • Availability of spare parts and after-sales service for Chinese cars can be more limited compared to Japanese and Korean brands, which have a long-established global presence. 4. Faster Technology Turnover: • Chinese manufacturers often introduce new models quickly, making older models appear outdated sooner, which accelerates depreciation. 5. Warranty Transfers: • Some Chinese brands offer long warranties, but these may not transfer fully to second-hand buyers, affecting resale value. Japanese and Korean Cars 1. Higher Reliability: • Japanese brands, in particular, are synonymous with long-term reliability, which keeps demand high in the used car market. • Korean cars have significantly improved in reliability and quality over the years, narrowing the gap with Japanese brands. 2. Established Trust: • Both Japanese and Korean brands have strong reputations and loyal customer bases, boosting resale value. 3. Resale Value: • In many markets, Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai models retain a significant percentage of their original price even after 5-10 years. Depreciation Comparison • Japanese cars: Typically depreciate slower, retaining 50-70% of their value after 3 years, depending on the model and condition. • Korean cars: Depreciation is improving, with many models retaining 45-60% of their value after 3 years. • Chinese cars: In some markets, they retain 30-50% of their value after 3 years, though this is improving for brands like BYD and MG, which are gaining recognition. Improving Trends for Chinese Cars • Brands like BYD, Geely, and MG are closing the gap with Japanese and Korean cars due to advancements in quality, technology, and design. • Growing trust in EVs (where BYD excels) and expanding after-sales networks are helping Chinese brands hold their value better. Conclusion • If resale value is a priority, Japanese cars are typically the safest choice, followed by Korean brands. • Chinese cars may still depreciate faster, but as brands like BYD and MG continue improving and gaining global recognition, this trend could shift.

i really want this sea lion 6 but my concern is maintenance. since sa EV less maintenance which is yan ung pnaka selling point sakin ng EV. but with hybrid does it mean na 2 na ung need ko problemahin enlighten me.
yes, since hybrid sya at may ICE, another maintenance yun, but with how the DM-i is is designed, bihira sya gagamitin specially if you charge via plugin regularly.
No car has good resale value. As soon as you drive it after picking it up it depreciation starts Cars re the biggest depreciation product on sale on the planet
Very informative insights sir! Kudos to all your effort in your contents.. I am opt to buying this SL6 after watching several reviews on hevs.. My only concern is the cost of replacing the battery when time comes and need arises.. Can you do us a favor on cost analysis? Will the cost of the replacement battery offset all my gas savings? Again salute to you sir for jobs well done!
@@benaven1786 one of my next items to research on is the cost of replacing the battery. Note though that after 8yrs wheb the battery warranty is over, you would have also spent significant amount for maintaining your ICE for 8yrs. Thanks for watching.
Good day po. Are there any rattling sounds coming from the panoramic roof? especially when driving at speed or encountering uneven roads? Isa po eto kasi sa comments ng isang owner's review of this phev car (brand new unit)...
resale value and aftesales nalang naman panlaban ng mga JDM fanboys... sa tech, price and features iwan na iwan na sila. sa US and EURO wala na sila choice but to put excessive tax para lang makasabay or mahirapan pumasok mga chinese car sa market.
I asked ChatGPT about your perception, it responded: Your concern about purchasing vehicles from Chinese brands due to China's activities in the West Philippine Sea is understandable. China's assertive actions in the region, including the militarization of disputed areas and interference with Philippine vessels, have heightened national tensions. AP NEWS When considering a vehicle purchase, it's essential to weigh several factors: 1. Brand Ownership and Operations: Many Chinese car brands operate through local distributors or joint ventures in the Philippines. For instance, MG is distributed by SAIC Motor Philippines, Inc., a subsidiary of China's SAIC Motor. Similarly, GWM entered the Philippine market under Luxuriant Automotive Group. 2. Economic Impact: Purchasing vehicles from Chinese brands can contribute to the Philippine economy by supporting local businesses and creating jobs. 3. Product Quality and Value: Chinese car brands have made significant strides in quality and technology. Models like the Geely Coolray and MG4 EV have garnered interest in the Philippine market. 4. Personal Values and National Sentiment: Given the geopolitical tensions, some consumers may choose to support brands from countries with which the Philippines has stronger ties. Ultimately, the decision to purchase a vehicle from a Chinese brand is personal and should align with your values, economic considerations, and assessment of the product's quality. If you have reservations, exploring alternatives from other manufacturers may be more suitable.
@@RolGri-bx3wm yown! Thanks for reminding me, yes may skyactive nga pala si Mazda.
The law of supply and deman will apply, bababa ang presyo ng fuel peeo babalik sa ICE? Hindi na yata. If full blast na ang EV meaning the production lines of manufacturers are for EV already. I don't think they will revert just to cater a small market share.
Practical.
So far lahat ng lumabas na grey has dark interior, yung white sometimes brown sometimes light interior and dumadating, syempre you have the option to choose,.
I have used cars of various brands for more than 20 years and this is enough to make me brand biased. When japanese and korean brands started global sales during the 80's and 90's, models are either badly designed, substandard, simply rebadged or have poor after market services. Its similar to what we experienced before with Chinese brands years ago. However, Chinese car products have greatly improved in respect to design and quality. In 20 years I have learned that its not the BRAND, its the DISTRIBUTOR. You can buy the most globally successful car brand but if the local distributor fails then the brand also fails. And by the way, car products from China are either their own brands or built for international brands. So some models under Korean, American and European brands, sold here locally, are actually made in China. Baka nga ung binili mo na new car or some of its major parts are made in China.
We have a byd sealion and its a very good purchase so far. 100 pesos on electricity per day to travel from ortigas to quezon city and back.

I still use my state of the art ICE cars 2 years old brand new once a week.
galing ung nagisip ng dmi tech kc sa halip na gamitin ang gas motor to propel the car, ginagamit nya as charger. so, kahit city drive using electric motor efficient ang takbo ng gas motor kc no need to stop and go. tuloy tuloy ang takbo ng makina kaya optimum performance sa pagcharge battery. walang nasasayang na power kc napupunta sa battery.

@@robertdatario85 thank you sir, let me read up some more about honda eHEV.

Thanks Bro.
Salamat po.
@@Castomere exactly!
@noski33
If we’re talking about apples-to-apples comparisons, the Toyota bZ3 and BYD Seal are great examples since they’re both electric sedans, and the bZ3 even uses BYD’s Blade battery technology.

Hi Sir, update mo kami sa PMS Cost, if kaya projected PMS for 5 yrs. Thank You.
Tapos since bago ang brand at technology, wala pa raw masyado parts. Pag nasira sa probinsya, wala raw marunong mag-ayos. Alam mo naman, baka sumabog pa daw kasi electric. Hybrid? Eh sabi nila mas magastos daw kaysa sa regular gas engine. Kaya bakit pa raw ako magpapaka-moderno? Toyota na lang daw kasi “subok na.” Kahit luma, kahit boring, basta daw sure sa tibay.

Pabor rin sakin itong concerns sa resale, because that means, in 3 years, makabili ako ng used Tesla na bagsak presyo. 🤣 Give and take lang.

Do you havê no life rude?
Hindi po lumang tugtugin sir. Resale value refers to the amount of money a vehicle is worth when you decide to sell it after owning it for a period of time. It is essentially the vehicle’s market value at the time of resale and one factor is depreciation and chinese cars tends to depreciate faster than Japanese or korean cars!
economy dynamics change. Do you predict it will be the same after 5 years? What if the new world order will happen and china is on top?
@ we dont know since trump won the presidency and surely ‘The made in China 2025’ will be affected or slowed. Also western companies are moving their company out of china.
Lets go back to the topic about resale value and why Chinese Cars Depreciate Faster
1. Brand Perception:
• Chinese car brands are often perceived as less reliable or less premium compared to established Japanese (e.g., Toyota, Honda) or Korean (e.g., Hyundai, Kia) brands.
• Some buyers associate Chinese cars with lower build quality or limited durability, even though this perception is improving with newer models.
2. Limited Resale Market:
• Chinese brands like MG, Changan, or BYD might not yet have a strong second-hand market in some countries, reducing demand and resale value.
3. Parts and Service Network:
• Availability of spare parts and after-sales service for Chinese cars can be more limited compared to Japanese and Korean brands, which have a long-established global presence.
4. Faster Technology Turnover:
• Chinese manufacturers often introduce new models quickly, making older models appear outdated sooner, which accelerates depreciation.
5. Warranty Transfers:
• Some Chinese brands offer long warranties, but these may not transfer fully to second-hand buyers, affecting resale value.
Japanese and Korean Cars
1. Higher Reliability:
• Japanese brands, in particular, are synonymous with long-term reliability, which keeps demand high in the used car market.
• Korean cars have significantly improved in reliability and quality over the years, narrowing the gap with Japanese brands.
2. Established Trust:
• Both Japanese and Korean brands have strong reputations and loyal customer bases, boosting resale value.
3. Resale Value:
• In many markets, Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai models retain a significant percentage of their original price even after 5-10 years.
Depreciation Comparison
• Japanese cars: Typically depreciate slower, retaining 50-70% of their value after 3 years, depending on the model and condition.
• Korean cars: Depreciation is improving, with many models retaining 45-60% of their value after 3 years.
• Chinese cars: In some markets, they retain 30-50% of their value after 3 years, though this is improving for brands like BYD and MG, which are gaining recognition.
Improving Trends for Chinese Cars
• Brands like BYD, Geely, and MG are closing the gap with Japanese and Korean cars due to advancements in quality, technology, and design.
• Growing trust in EVs (where BYD excels) and expanding after-sales networks are helping Chinese brands hold their value better.
Conclusion
• If resale value is a priority, Japanese cars are typically the safest choice, followed by Korean brands.
• Chinese cars may still depreciate faster, but as brands like BYD and MG continue improving and gaining global recognition, this trend could shift.

I asked ChatGPT about your perception, it responded:
Your concern about purchasing vehicles from Chinese brands due to China's activities in the West Philippine Sea is understandable. China's assertive actions in the region, including the militarization of disputed areas and interference with Philippine vessels, have heightened national tensions.
AP NEWS
When considering a vehicle purchase, it's essential to weigh several factors:
